We're getting old. :csad: On Feb 23 it's the 10th anniversary of Eminem's breakthrough album, the Slim Shady LP.

So...10 years later...has your opinion changed or is it the same?

I still like the album, but I liked it a lot more 10 years ago. The Marshall Mathers LP is such a MAJOR improvement that it hurts Slim Shady in comparison.

When I first saw advertisements for The Slim Shady LP, I was so ready to write off Eminem as another Vanilla Ice, and didn't give a rat's ass about Dr. Dre producing. I knew nothing about his underground reputation, and just didn't care. Then I heard "My Name Is. . " and thought it was funny and appealing enough to listen to the album, and I was just floored. In my opinion, he was the last real MC to be totally deserving of the amount of mainstream praise he received. What I mean is, every three or four years, you have that one rapper in the mainstream that comes out of nowhere and is pretty much annointed by the media as the standard by which all other rappers in the mainstream are measured. When everyone was all about the West Coast in the early 90s, Biggie came outta nowhere and became the standard. Yeah, you had Jay-Z for a while, but as big as he was, he was already in something of a mainstream spotlight. he didn't just appear outta thin air and EVERYONE was all about Jay-Z. But when Eminem came out, aside from some underground stuff, nobody knew jack about him. She when Slim Shady came out, it was pretty much this explosion where it was all about him.

By comparison, guys like 50 Cent and Lil' Wayne weren't and (in my opinion) still aren't as good lyrically as Em was. Mind you, I'm not too confident in what Eminem may be working on now, if "Crack a Bottle" is any indication.

I still recall when that came out...my sis got it for me on my b-day. I hadn't heard **** about this Eminem dude back then except for that Slim Shady video, but after listening to the entire album I was like, damn....dude got some skill.

Time really does fly, I remember hearing ''My Name Is'' on Westwood and thinking 'this black guy is nuts, shame his gimmick won't go far', then I saw the video and I was like http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c324/disqo/shocking.gif 'wait he is white'

My favorite rapper, next to The Beatles my favorite musician...wow 10 years. He is a part of my life and I hope his new album will make feel just like he made me feel 10 years ago, when I was 7 and I heard that track...this was the first real music experience for me.

QFT. I hated Enimem and how everyone lauded him as some genius. People still do at my school. Give it up.

Yes & Yes.

I don't really consider myself a fan of the guy anymore, but his music was a huge part of my life back when I was 14-16 - especially the MM LP. I knew every song, every lyric, and...here comes a shameful admission...would even "perform" his songs in my room with a stick of deodorant as my mic. :O

Those were the days.

Another teenage throwback!

Oh my lord, Em was 'the man' back in the day. Now at 25 years old though, It'll be more of a guilty pleasure than anything else. I still have this in my CD stack somewhere, I think.

I saw Eminem live right before "My Name Is" hit MTV. He was cool on stage. He actually did "My Name Is" twice that night because he felt he didn't do it well enough the first time.

I don't recall saying it was on the SSLP.

And I recalled correctly.

The only time I saw Eminem live was in 2000 during the Up in Smoke tour. Great show.
