I'm glad Gwyneth is back for IM2. Aside from RDJ, she really shined as Pepper and her playful exchanges with Downey Jr. had a good spark that make those scenes very interesting, far more than Tobey/Kristen and Christian/Maggie. I was afraid that Marvel will go too far with their cost-cutting moves (like they did with Howard and Jackson), and only RDJ will return for the sequel.

If Marvel got rid of Gwyn I would have given up on all future Marvel projects IM2 included. At least this one went by without a hitch.

Lol, you and your melodramatic statements. While I think it would've hurt the movie if she left, Paltrow leaving would hardly kill the franchise. RDJ possibly. He's the main requirement.

Well... I would have left the franchise regardless in all honesty and become a Marvel troll on these boards if I even bothered posting. There are just some things you can't stand... that would have been one of them. It didn't happen but still... as hard as I am on the other situations... you could live with a Don Cheadle or Mickey Rourkless IM2. A new Potts would have been the last straw for me. And if Norton leaves the Hulk franchise I could accept that as well because I never expected him to be back. I will still be hard on Marvel if they lowball him for future sequels/Avengers... although I don't think he will be worth the money if he demands a significant pay raise. Ofcourse you will defend Marvel to every extent as long as RDJ is in the movie. I mean he's good... but that good?

Well, I would argue that Tony Stark was the best part of the movie and not Iron Man.

Gwyneth Paltrow Filming A ‘Risque Scene’ As Dominatrix In ‘Iron Man 2’? (http://splashpage.mtv.com/2009/05/04/gwyneth-paltrow-filming-a-risque-scene-as-dominatrix-in-iron-man-2/)
Published by Josh Wigler (http://splashpage.mtv.com/author/joshwigler/) on Monday, May 4, 2009 at 11:25 am.
Sex and seduction are all part of the game for espionage agent Natasha Romanoff — played by Scarlett Johansson (http://splashpage.mtv.com/tag/scarlett-johansson) in “Iron Man 2 (http://splashpage.mtv.com/tag/iron-man-2)” — but those words don’t fall quite as comfortably on the lips of Tony Stark’s assistant, Pepper Potts.
Still, that’s not stopping Gwyneth Paltrow’s (http://splashpage.mtv.com/tag/gwyneth-paltrow) character from matching the sultry persona of Johansson’s Black Widow. According to a rumor from The Daily Mail (http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-1176671/KATIE-NICHOLL-Gwyneth-Paltrow-hits-gym-risque-scene-Iron-Man-2.html?ITO=1490), Paltrow has been getting in shape for a “risque scene” alongside leading man Robert Downey Jr. (http://splashpage.mtv.com/tag/robert-downey-jr).
“Iron Man imagines Pepper in a dominatrix outfit,” a source tells the news outlet. “Gwyneth had to be filmed in a very revealing black leather corset complete with a bullwhip.”
If the rumor ultimately pans out and such a scene exists in the Jon Favreau (http://splashpage.mtv.com/tag/jon-favreau)-directed sequel, then supporters of a Stark-Potts consummation may have to wait for “Iron Man 3 (http://splashpage.mtv.com/tag/iron-man-3)” for the real thing — but an on-screen fantasy sequence should whet the appetite significantly.
On paper, the scene seems a tad out of place. “Iron Man” received acclaim for its realistic approach and a fantasy sequence doesn’t exactly fit that same thematic bill. But with reports of Happy Hogan’s stunt-heavy scene (http://splashpage.mtv.com/2009/04/22/jon-favreaus-iron-man-2-twitter-update-stunt-work-for-happy-hogan/) — which is likely to involve his protectorate Tony Stark in some way — perhaps our hero befalls some sort of incident where he hallucinates the domineering Pepper.
Another possibility is that the scene takes place during an encounter with Tony and Black Widow. It was previously confirmed that Stark would be involved in a love triangle between Widow and Potts (http://splashpage.mtv.com/2009/02/12/exclusive-no-iron-man-2-script-yet-for-gwyneth-paltrow/) — maybe he envisions the more conservative Pepper while having an actual bed-sheet battle with the aggressive Natasha?
One thing that’s interesting about the rumored fantasy is the focus on bullwhips. Mickey Rourke (http://splashpage.mtv.com/tag/mickey-rourke) is reportedly portraying a mixture of Whiplash and Crimson Dynamo (http://splashpage.mtv.com/2009/01/08/crimson-dynamo-whiplash-justin-hammer-in-iron-man-2-which-villains-should-mickey-rourke-sam-rockwell-play/), the former of which utilizes — you guessed it — whips as his weapons of choice. Would Paltrow’s scene serve as foreshadowing of Rourke’s villainous persona, or has Stark already encountered the character at this point in the film?

Not too much Iron Man talk, and nothing that was breaking news...
http://www.internapse.com/marvel/news.php?id=1964
Gwyneth Paltrow appeared on the Tonight Show with Conan O'Brien and mentioned that she was currently filming Iron Man 2.
Conan O'Brien commented Paltrow on her dress, and she responded that she thought her dress was appropriate since she was currently filming Iron Man 2. The dress had an iron and chain metal feel to it. Her hair was blond as opposed to Virginia "Pepper" Potts' orange hair in the first film. The two chatted about Paltrow's son and husband, Chris Martin of Coldplay.
Conan commented that "People love that Iron Man movie, absolutely love that film" to which the crowd cheered. He then asked Paltrow where she has been for the past year and she said that she took a break off cause she was broke.
About the first movie, Gwyneth commented that she "had always wanted to work with Robert, who was incredible." Robert said to her "You should really do this, Jon Favreau is amazing and don't you want to see a movie that people actually want to see." She commented that the first film film "was fantastic, had a great, great time."
Paltrow responded that the sequel comes out, "April something 2010."
The two also talked about her website, GOOP before Conan demonstrated a derriere exercise.
Not too much in terms of Iron Man as she was mainly on the show to promote her website, but it was interesting to note that her hair was a completely different color. Perhaps the film crew colors it on a daily basis or Pepper is going blond to combat Scarlett Johansson's red-headed Black Widow.
Of note, the movie comes out May 7, 2010... and not April something... I guess Gwyneth didn't get the release change memo either.

thats good to hear i thought Madonna was going to play Pepper in IM2. that would've really sucked. just another rumor as bad as Cher playing Catwoman. but i'm still PO'ed that Terrence Howard is not returning.
kedrell

The closest Madonna is getting to this film is that she and Paltrow have the same personal trainer. That's all.
I'm definitely fine w/ Howard getting replaced at this point. He definitely was the weakest link in the first film. Favs & Nolan seem to be able to cut their weakest links from their movies, why can't Raimi ditch Kirsten Dunst?;)

http://www.wwtdd.com/2009/08/everyone-hates-gwen-paltrow/
A source says some of the “Iron Man” team had secret hopes of her character being recast, or even killed in the movie, but are resigned to the likelihood that she is locked in as the character Pepper Potts.
Gwyneth did nothing to make friends with fellow superhero Scarlett Johansson.
“Gwyneth is not friendly to anyone, and tends to make people feel awkward and uncomfortable. She wasn’t outright rude to Scarlett, she just didn’t ever speak to her. Gwyneth went out of her way to avoid Scarlett, and they had zero contact, at Gwyneth’s choosing.”
“Much of the crew didn’t mind hanging out with her husband, Chris, but if Gwyneth ever came around, they scattered! Chris is so chill and relaxed and she is just the opposite. Chris has been a crew favorite since the filming of the first movie.”
See to me Gwyneth has always looked and seems like a cold person.
I don't mind her as Pepper .. but thats a part anyone can play.

What? There's no reason to kill her off, if she doesn't return for a third, then have her elope with Happy or say she and Happy moved away after they got married and bring in Bethany Cabe.
That's how it happened in the comics iirc.
Kate Mara is going to be Bethany Cabe. So they've already brought her in for part 2 :)
