This RPG is similar to almost all others on the Superhero Hype! boards, except this continuity centers around the world of the wildly popular television show L O S T.

Oceanic Flight 815 from Sydney, Australia to Los Angeles, California crashed 1000 miles off course, somewhere in the Pacific. 43 survivors found themselves stranded together on the island, awaiting rescue. The days passed and, slowly, they learned to come together. The 43 castaways of the crash must fight to survive, both each other and the many hidden dangers that lurk in the island’s lush forests. Set in the popular world of TV’s L O S T, now you can take part and unfold the mystery of the island for yourself.

How will the survivors learn to live with each other? What dangers will the mystery of the island reveal? How many heroes and villains will emerge?

RULES


For the start of this season, you may choose any fuselage survivor from the world of L O S T, or create your own. OTHERS AND TAIL-END SURVIVORS ARE NOT PLAYABLE FOR THE TIME BEING.
All characters can interact with each other.
Characters from alternate time lines are allowed but must be approved.
No Killing. Unnamed, faceless NPC's may be killed, but not major characters, or taken characters. Someone else may want to take up the character, or they may be important to another story.
You can go anywhere on the island. That's about it.
You are your character, so act like it. Talk like them, use their dialouge. Do not exaggerate your powers, or pop-up here and there without explanation. BE Your character.
Several stories can be going at once, and you have the freedom to interact with other characters.
You must post at least once every two weeks, though it is preferred that you post more. If you go two weeks without a post without prior notice, your character is up for grabs.
Be serious, no slander, or impractical actions from your character. Example; "I found a crystal and now I own the world! You're all my slaves!"
All regular rules of the Hype apply.

Brief history of the character up to the point of the crash of Oceanic Flight 815: As a child, Sawyer was forced to watch his father murder his mother and then himself. He has spent the last years trying to hunt down the man he believes responsible, a nameless, faceless con man. His search took him to Sydney, Australia, where something happened that would further damage Sawyer.

1. He's a scoundrel. And if there's one thing I love, it's a scoundrel.

2. He's a very conflicted character, and I can't wait to play around in his head.

3. He's a jerk. And hopefully I'll get in lots of fights with the other survivors.

Sawyer's eyes lazily wandered from the book he had been enjoying to the enraged Korean man running towards him.

"당신은 나의 물을 가지고 갔다!" the man shouted over and over, almost falling over as he angrily treked through the soft sand.

"Woah, woah woah." he dropped the book onto his blanket, making sure not to close it completely so he wouldn't lose his place. "What'n'the hell are you talking about?

"당신은 나의 물을 가지고 갔다!" the man, whose name was Jin (The only reason Sawyer knew this was because he had found it extremely amusing when Jin tried introducing himself in broken English, and tried to listen in as often as he could), kept repeating the same phrase over and over. Sawer could only assume Jin was angry over his bottle of water.

Sawyer knew this, of course, because he had taken it.

"Listen, Mr. Myagi, I don't speak gibberish. I'm gonna get back to my book now, and you best leave me to it."

On one journey, he had to catch a connection from London to LA to Sydney. Although it was BBC financed, he was travelling on a public plane. The scout was successful, and he caught the fated Oceanic Flight 815 back to Sydney.

The first thing Andrew saw was sand. It took him a second or two to catch his bearings, but the next sense that returned was taste. And he tasted sand. He pushed himself up and spat it out, rubbing at his tongue. This effort was in vain, however, because his hands were also sand covered, so he was just rubbing more sand in. Touch, smell and sound all returned at once, and what he heard made him swing round quick.

“Now there’s something you don’t see every day.” Was the sentence he found himself uttering. In front of him was plane wreckage. Red and blue stripes on the fuselage indicated it was his plane. There was metal and flames everywhere. Suddenly, ahead from the trees, he heard rustling. A man in a suit emerged, and ran over to the crash site, helping the injured.

Wait, trees? He stood up and surveyed his surroundings. He was on light sand, and to his right was blue sea. To his left was thick, dense jungle. He was on a desert island. Even though desert wasn’t the correct name for it. Maybe jungle island. Then, he found his legs carrying him towards the crash site. Next thing, he was helping people.

A few years after this whilst he worked for a box company, he booked tickets for a walk-about in Australia. When he wasn't allowed on the trip because of his disability, he took Flight 815 back from Sydney.

1. He has a lot of depth.

2. Someone has to play devil's advocate.

3. I like the character.

The trees joined together overhead, filtering out the light and casting shadows over the jungle floor. Twigs and foilage crumpled underfoot as Locke stalked through the undergrowth, hunting knife clasped in his hand. He heard birds chirping above him and the buzzing of insects.

There was a thundering sound as the young boar crashed through the trees and shrubs. John moved swiftly to the side as it sped past him, lashing out with the knife and catching it with a glandcing shot on the belly. It turned around, snorting, beady eyes flitting around crazily at the source of pain.

Locke crouched, then rolled to the side as the boar charged, thrusting up with the knife as it went past and stabbing it in the gut, using it's own momentum to slice it's stomach open. It growled and snorted, flinging it's head around with razor sharp tusks. Locke brought the knife down again in it's neck, violently severing it's blood flow. He looked up as rain started to patter down through the leaves and hit the jungle floor. He smiled.

"Today is going to be a good day," he said, grinning.

Character you would like to play: Doctor Jack Shephard

Is this a pre-existing character or self-created?: Pre-existing

Brief history of the character up to the point of the crash of Oceanic Flight 815: A successful Doctor prior to the crash of Oceanic Flight 815, Jack Shephard could be considered an everyman. He sticks to his principles, and, what's more, his guns. His greatest influence has been his father. While Jack is a man who appreciates the work his father does in the medical community, he, indeed, has a guarded reservation about allowing himself to become like his old man, a drinker.

Three reasons why you have chosen that character:

1. To be honest, the group needs a leader. Jack facilitates the ability to lead the narrative as a GM and, at the same time, I can actually take a part in the story.

2. The game needs a Jack, and I'm not sure there's anyone else who'd want to play him. He's the stereotypical hero.

3. I like stereotypical heroes.

Breath shallow. Heart racing. Pulse gotta be at least 130.

Doctor Jack Shephard was not a man prone to panicking. And, as he listed the rough, approximate figures and facts in his head, none of them seemed to be of much concern. Quick breathing and a fast heart rate were hardly things to be worried about. What was, however, a cause of concern for Jack was the fact that he wasn't just how this unworrysome factors came to be. His condition could be explained by any moderate physical exertion. But, that was just it.

"I'm lying down," Jack thought, blinking several times, realizing that he was flat on his back.

He squinted and rose to his feet bracing himself with a hand on his knee.

There was a beach just outside of the clearing in the forest that he found himself in. He didn't know where he was, exactly. Or, more importantly, how he got there.

Brief history of the character up to the point of the crash of Oceanic Flight 815:

The son of an Iraqi war hero from the Iran–Iraq War, Sayid served as a communications officer in the Iraqi Republican Guard. During the Gulf War, Sayid's base was captured by the Americans. Sayid is made to act as a liason between the American forces and his former commanding officer. Eventually (after learning of a planned attack on his home village) Sayid proceeds to torture the officer in order to gain information for the Americans. He swears never to do this again.
However, Sayid begins to use his skills as a torturer for the Guard. It is in this role that Sayid re-encounters a childhood friend, Nadia. As he spends more time with her, Sayid comes to fall in love with her, and goes so far as to shoot his commanding officer and himself in the leg to allow her to escape.
After leaving the Guard, Sayid searches for Nadia. He is approached by representatives of the CIA to help identify a terrorist sect in Australia, one which they believe includes his old college room mate. Sayid convinces his friend to become a suicide bomber so that the CIA can take possession of stolen explosions in the possession of the sect. At the last minute Sayid tries to allow him to escape, however his room mate kills himself as he realises what Sayid has done.
In return for this, the CIA honour their end of the deal and provide Sayid with Nadia’s location and a plane ticket to Los Angeles. A plane ticket for Oceanic Flight 815

1. Sayid is a complex character. Complex is good. Complex is fun to write and hopefully interesting to read.

2. I want to be the baddest mother on the Island. This is one way of doing that :D

I’ve previously posted in the DC RPG, and am currently active on there, so I’m no stranger to the concept of RPG-ing. I love Lost more than is naturally acceptable. I have a degree in Creative Writing and Media Studies. While that may not seem linked with this application, I did my dissertation on Lost. This combination of show knowledge and degree level writing should hopefully add a layer to my posts, as well as the RPG in general.

How many times do you intend on posting a DAY IN the RPG: At LEAST once, depending on activity of others. As a teacher, sometimes my workload may be intense, but I’ll check in with a status update if nothing else.

I look at him. His lip bleeding. I want this. I never wanted it before, But I want this. I want his red neck to blister in the sun. For what he did… what he’s done.

I throw what’s left in the water bottle over him, and toss it to one side. He splutters.

“Well, ain't you the brave one? Jumping a guy when he's nappin'…” His southern drawl… the arrogance…

I move to the side, so he can see Jack. While they glare at each other, I grab a branch of bamboo.

“Huh. Well now we got ourselves a party. Couple more fellas, we can deal a little stud.”

I’ve heard enough. I snap the bamboo in my hand.

“Uh oh. I'm in trouble, ain't I?”

I’m almost aching to use it. I want him to hurt. He stopped us getting rescued. He stopped us being safe because it’s more convenient for him. And now he doesn’t provide Shannon with medicine that will save her. Medicine of no use to him. No use except to sell. I almost can’t control it, I almost lunch at him. Then Jack speaks.

“We gave you every chance to do the right thing, Sawyer. All we wanted was the asthma medicine. Just tell me where your stash is. Where the medicine is. And we'll stop.”

Sawyer just smirks. “Stop what, Chico?”

He just smirks. I snap the branch again.

“It doesn’t have to be this way.”

The two of them look at each other. There is a pause. Then he speaks. “Yeah it does,”

Whatever he is running from back home, he’s not running now. I don’t know why, but I need to explain what is going to happen next. It helps the process. Breaks the prisoner before you’ve even laid a finger on them in some cases. In others, it is just a curtosy. I kneel down to his level.

“We do not have bamboo in Iraq, though we have something similar. Reeds. But their effect is the same when the chutes are inserted under the fingernails”

He turns away from Jack and half smiles. “Know what I think, Ali? I think you've never actually tortured anybody in your life.”

I grab a hold of his arm, and I force the fingers back.

“Unfortunately for both of us, you are wrong.”

With a sharp thrust I force the chute under his fingernail. He feels it. He feels it and he knows. This is only the beginning.

Brief history of the character up to the point of the crash of Oceanic Flight 815:

Age 6: Boone would constantly call his nanny, Theresa, up and down the stairs of his house. The nanny ended up breaking her neck one of these times.

Age 10: His mom Sabrina Carlyle married Adam Rutherford. Shannon Rutherford was now his step-sister.

Age >10:
- Boone moved from New York, NY to Malibu, CA, where he became a licensed lifeguard and later took a job at Carlyle Wedding Co. (his mother’s wedding planning business), becoming COO after his step-father’s death. Sabrina kept all of Adam’s money upon his death, Shannon receiving none of it. Boone gave Shannon a fair amount of the money for her to live on in New York.

- Boone would continue to give more cash to Shannon upon her request, usually money used to pay off many of her abusive boyfriends. The money would come directly back to Shannon.

- Boone discovered his step-sister’s actions when he confronted Bryan, Shannon’s current boyfriend at the time, after flying all the way down to Australia. He would pay off Bryan to end the relationship. That day Shannon, drunk, came to reveal her knowledge of Boone’s love for her, and the two had sex together.

Three reasons why you have chosen that character:

1. I've only seen up to the middle of Season 3 of the show. I don't think I'll need to see later episodes to learn more then I already know about this character.

2. He's the only one with enough balls to go hunting with Locke :o

The wood that Boone had been carrying scattered as he tripped over a rock along the beach. He sighed deeply as he proceeded to pick up each individual branch. His eyes brought his attention to Shannon, who was lying on a towel and getting a suntan. “Get up,” requested Boone as he walked past his step-sister.

“Why should I?” she asked.

Boone Carlyle stopped and turned his eyes towards her. “Listen, you aren’t going to do this all over again.”

“Do what?” demanded Shannon as she took off her sunglasses and faced her step-brother.

“Take up space, being worthless!” Boone started walking away.

“I am not worthless!”

“Prove it.”

“Fine, I will!” she said as she stormed off.

“Shannon wait!” he called out to her as he dropped his load. But she wouldn’t stop.

‘Not again,’ he though to himself. This wouldn’t be the first time this scenario has occurred. The late nights that he’d talk to her over the phone, telling Shannon to do something with her life. Then she’d go off to find some new boy and get herself in another abusive relationship.

All he could do before was support her with his money. But the island, the crash ... it all meant something. It meant a second chance, a chance to truly be there for her, a chance to be that one man in her life that he always wanted to be. The night they had together in that hotel room, perhaps that was just the start? Time would tell soon enough.

Brief history of the character up to the point of the crash of Oceanic Flight 815: Benjamin Linus was born in Portland near a woodland area. His mother(Emily) died giving birth to him. Ben moves to the island with his father(Roger), who was offered a job there. Ben had a stressful child-hood living with this father, who verbally abused him. Even at a young age, Ben saw there was more to life than watching his father drink everyday and seeing him working a pointless job for the Dharma Initiative. One day young Ben ran away from home, he came across Richard Alpert who tells Ben he will help him. Years later, Ben along with the hostiles killed off everyone working for the Dharma Initiative on the island, including Roger. Ben would then became the leader of the hostiles as he gets his orders from Jacob. Years later, Ben discovers he has a tumour, but lucky for him, flight 815 just crashed on the island.

ALEX: Happy Birthday!

Ben stares through Alex, remembering the day he killed his own father. Ben begins to show a smile and then his smile grows bigger at the idea of someone loving him and celebrating his birthday. Before Ben can say anything, Richard Alpert enters the back door.

BEN: Hello, Richard.

ALEX(to Richard): It's my Daddy's birthday.

RICHARD(Smiling at Alex): It is?

BEN: "You do remember birthdays, don't you, Richard?

Richards looks at Ben and stops smiling.

RICHARD: I need to talk to you.

Ben looks at Alex and then walks towards the door.

Brief history of the character up to the point of the crash of Oceanic Flight 815: Born and raised in Iowa, Kate is the daughter of diner worker Diane and Sam, a U.S. Army Ranger and Gulf War Veteran, who taught Kate to track deer in the wild during her childhood. At an early age she befriended Tom.

After months of travelling around the country under numerous aliases, license plates and hairstyles, Kate learned that Diane was dying of cancer, and decided to visit her. She reunited with her childhood friend Tom, who helped her dig up their time capsule, containing a variety of items, including his small toy airplane. Tom, now a doctor, arranged a meeting between Kate and Diane. As Kate tried to apologize to her, Diane started screaming for help, prompting Kate to flee the hospital with Tom. A policeman opened fire on their getaway car. When the car rammed into the car in front of it, it killed Tom and forced Kate to flee the scene of the accident, leaving behind Tom and his childhood toy.

She fled to Australia where, while sleeping in a barn, she was discovered by a farmer named Ray. Posing as a Canadian hiker, Kate worked on the farm for three months, saving her wages in a hole in the pantry. When Ray caught her attempting to sneak away, and offered her a ride into town the next morning. During the journey however, Kate discovered that the farmer had learned of her true identity and notified Edward Mars of her whereabouts, in exchange for the $23,000 reward. Kate grabbed the wheel and crashed the truck into a field but instead of running, she helped the unconscious Ray from his vehicle, giving Mars time to pursue and arrest her.

"Hey, get off me" Kate pushed the man away. The man's eyes had swelled up, it looked like tears were about to break through.


"Have you seen my wife?" The man spat out, Kate shook her head and stepped back, she didn't want to be noticed by anyone.
"Go ask someone else, sorry" Kate muttered, she trailed off, looking at the worried people. One man stood out. He had a black suit on, he seemed to be dealing with a lot of hurt castaways. Kate's eyes fixed on him, he seemed brave enough to deal with hurt castaways.


Kate gasps as she witnesses someone getting sucked into the propeller of the wing of the airplane. Kate rushes over to the scene. In the corner of her eyes, she can see a woman screaming for help, drowning.
"SOMEONE HELP THAT WOMAN!" Kate shouts, she doesn't want to help the woman, it would draw attention to her. Kate panics, everyone is busy. It's time for her to step up.

Age 6: Boone would constantly call his nanny, Theresa, up and down the stairs of his house. The nanny ended up breaking her neck one of these times.

Age 10: His mom Sabrina Carlyle married Adam Rutherford. Shannon Rutherford was now his step-sister.

Age >10:
- Boone moved from New York, NY to Malibu, CA, where he became a licensed lifeguard and later took a job at Carlyle Wedding Co. (his mother’s wedding planning business), becoming COO after his step-father’s death. Sabrina kept all of Adam’s money upon his death, Shannon receiving none of it. Boone gave Shannon a fair amount of the money for her to live on in New York.

- Boone would continue to give more cash to Shannon upon her request, usually money used to pay off many of her abusive boyfriends. The money would come directly back to Shannon.

- Boone discovered his step-sister’s actions when he confronted Bryan, Shannon’s current boyfriend at the time, after flying all the way down to Australia. He would pay off Bryan to end the relationship. That day Shannon, drunk, came to reveal her knowledge of Boone’s love for her, and the two had sex together.

1. I've only seen up to the middle of Season 3 of the show. I don't think I'll need to see later episodes to learn more then I already know about this character.

“Why should I?” she asked.

Boone Carlyle stopped and turned his eyes towards her. “Listen, you aren’t going to do this all over again.”

‘Not again,’ he though to himself. This wouldn’t be the first time this scenario has occurred. The late nights that he’d talk to her over the phone, telling Shannon to do something with her life. Then she’d go off to find some new boy and get herself in another abusive relationship.

All he could do before was support her with his money. But the island, the crash ... it all meant something. It meant a second chance, a chance to truly be there for her, a chance to be that one man in her life that he always wanted to be. The night they had together in that hotel room, perhaps that was just the start? Time would tell soon enough.

I havent seen much of them in the show, so I don't know the extent they have in the story (I can only assume it's quite a bit), but for the very start of the game (just to get things moving), we, the management of the game, are going to ask that just survivors of the midsection part of the plane are applied for. Certainly, after they're discovered, Others will be playable, but, just to get things moving and avoid confusion, we're going to ask that we avoid the Others for now.

Brief history of the character up to the point of the crash of Oceanic Flight 815: Charlie is the bassist and songwriter of a rather famous rock band, one which he started with his brother Liam. The details of their fueds and fights were tabloid gold and Charlie had most of his privacy taken from him by the media and ended up sprialling out of control, record sales diminished and his popolarity waned. He was driven to drugs, most notably heroin.

Character you would like to play: Billy Chambers

Brief history of the character up to the point of the crash of Oceanic Flight 815: A star in the Vegas showrooms of the 70's, Boppin' Billy Chambers had #1 hit after #1 hit all throughout the decade and into the 80's. His fan base started to dry up in the late 80's, by the mid 90's he was all but forgotten by American audiences. Realizing he had fans all over the world, he took his act on the road and now makes a living as a international spokesman and lounge singer, he was on his way back to the states after a semi-succesful tour of Austrailia when Flight 815 crashed.

Three reasons why you have chosen that character:

1. While I love the current RPGs, I have grown a bit tired of capes and costumes. This is a nice change of pace.

2. I think I can have some fun with a guy like this, being a washed up singer.

3. He and Charlie Pace can start a band!

"The summer wind, can blowing in from across the sea!....Thank you!" I say as I groove around the stage of the Sydney Holiday Inn.

There are maybe a half dozen people in the room, half of them are chatting at the bar.

"It lingered there, and touched your hair and walked with me!" I belt out as the bartender stifles a yawn.

I really can't believe this, back in Vegas I had them hanging from the rafters...now, it's all I can do to keep the blue-hairs awake.

After the show, I'm at the bar nursing a jack and coke when a fat blonde comes waddiling up.

"Can I have you autograph?!" She says with a mild Austrailian accent.

I smile and take the pen from her hand, scrawling my John Hancock on a napkin.

"Wow, thanks. You know, my sister had your poster up on our wall when we were little girls. She loved you, she's gonna be so jealous."

I agree. I think that it shouldn't be right into it because then because the characters haven't gone throught the transistion of being in real-life to the island life, so we (The Players) don't either.

Lost is about the Survival though. That's why it's about being stranded on a desert island. The Monster, the Others and misc. just adds more mystery.

Starting from day 1 of the crash or 7 days after ... tough choice there.

I agree with Climperoonie in the fact that I'd love the idea of having to build a shelter instead of it already built. On the other hand, the "OMG WE CRASHED!!1!!1" factor would get old pretty quickly ...

I know this may seem like a half-assed answer, but what about between day 1 and the first week? Essentially, we don't have to go through a LONG day 1 of everyone screaming their heads off because of the crash, but the date is also early enough so we can still have our character introduce themselves to one another and get to make our shelters. Best of both worlds I think :)

Oh yeah, and someone needs to update the roster :o

Ok even if its 1 week after the crash shelters could still be in the process of being built. Theirs still the issue of the introduction of characters though (you figure after 1 week they'd all have met at some point).

As an adult Hurley spent a great deal of time in a mental Institute due to collapsing deck he was standing on broke, killing two people. The dock was meant to hold 8 people, but 23 were standing on it. Reyes blamed his weight for the accident.

Inside the institute, Hurley made up a imaginary friend called Dave, who made him stop taking his pills and to continue to eat when Hugo was meant to be on a diet. Hurley over came Dave.

When Hugo was released, he got his job back at Mr Clucks where he one day did the lotto with numbers, a man named Leonard from the institute kept repeating. To Hugo's surprise, he won! After winning a string of bad events kept happening surrounding the numbers. Hurley returned to the institute to talk to Leonard about the numbers. He reveals that he heard the numbers from Sam Toomey in Kalgoorlie, Australia as he beings to freak out because Hugo ''opened the box''.

Hugo then travelled to Australia to find Toomey who turned out to be dead. His wife told him her husband killed himself believing the numbers were cursed, but she told Hugo, she didn't believe that and that you make your own kind of luck.

Hugo got on flight 815 to return home, where it crashed on the island.

Three reasons why you have chosen that character:

Only thing I'm confused about is "when" in the show's timeline do we start? From what it looks like, its starting from day 1, where we'll RP out the crash. I'm really not sure though, you need to specify how many day[s] our characters have been on the island.

Yep,going our own way. Some things from the show will be kept, but the majority of it will be completely original content. So Kate will be hooking up with Shannon, and a threeway with Claire will be the Season 2 opener. Same goes for Hurley, Charlie and Locke.

Not I. For one, I honestly don't think that last post made much sense. First of all, how the hell does Claire know her baby "isn't surviving?" I get maternal instinct and all that stuff but, honestly, honestly, it doesn't make a lick of sense that Claire would think that her baby was dying. Plus, I think the conversation ended a little abruptly. Why would Kate strike up a conversation about Claire's baby, only to say something to the effect of "oh, nevermind, I don't want you to know me." That just seems so... unnatural.

Plus, as I recall, Kate put her own mask on and then put Mar's own mask on, saving his life.

That's just semantic, though.

First, the game is off to a great start. We've got some spooky ***** coming up, so make sure to stay on top of things; you don't want to get left out.

And second, I can't help but agree with MM, Harley. You should try reading your posts once you finish typing them, because a lot of stuff doesn't make any sort of sense, with regards to content and grammar.

I'm just going to say one thing, in addition to Sensei's two things:

Just so everyone is aware, this game has very little in common with the show. So, if you're going to have your character venture out into the wilderness of the island to find something (like the smoke monster or a DHARMA station, for instance) just be warned that it's not going to relate at all to the show. Very little of what has happened through the show's plot will occur in this L O S T game. Sensei and I have been planning plot twists that will come at a pretty steady pace, and we'll reveal clues as to the island's mysteries. If people take the island's secrets into their own hands and start formulating their own plot points, things will spiral out of control fast.

We're in favor of people pitching us ideas via PM or MSN and such, but random plot developments will result in chaos. And not the fun type, with agents who wear white, red, and black makeup.

Seriously, Walt seems pretty darn normal to me. Yeah yeah I know Walt's stepfather seemed to regard him as peculiar, but I always assumed it was just because the stepfather was a cold, distant-hearted dumbass of a stepfather. And the Others are just bat-**** insane to me really (still in mid-Season 3), so their opinion on Walt means jack squat to me.

Btw anyone wanna make character banners for those of use RPers who were born less-fortunate in artistic skills (including me)? I'd love a Boone banner! :D

I'll tell you what. I'm leaning toward the Walt being normal thing to make it easier, but if it makes your storyline idea better to have him be special then I'm willing to play along.
