Here is a pure Fanboy thread about the impeccable incredible Mr. Bruce Lee, the original Kato. Not sure if this movie Kato (Stephen Chow) will stand up against what he did, but one could hope.

But the only reason I tuned it to Green Hornet as a kid when local stations used to re-run the show (usually against the old Batman show) was to watch Bruce lee. The roles always seemed a bit reversed, and Bruce always seemed a bit slowed down. but it's probably been at least 20 years since I seen a whole episode.

Anyone else?

As an old timer....I watched Green Hornet when it first run....and I definately tuned in to see what Bruce did. As a kid in Kentucky, there was no exposure to the martial arts except through some lame looking attempt in the occasional movie (usually by someone who really didn't know the proper way to do anything). His moves really fascinated me.

I didn't get to see the show for decades after that....but I recently got copies of the shows and am starting to rewatch them. He still impresses.

He had to slow down, it's no wonder he made such an impression with Enter the Dragon. Growing up in the 70's, he was such a icon just after his death. And that's when all his other films followed, filling up late night tv. I remember watching Fists of Fury till 3am, I was like 7 yrs. old and it killed me the next morning going to school.

I've rewatched a bunch of the episodes now. What's interesting to see, is how they slowly increased Bruce's role as the show moves on. In the earliest episodes, he mostly stood in the background, took orders, and kicked a few people. As time went by, his speaking parts got longer, his character was in on the planning of things (more as a partner than a underling), and the fight scenes got more intricate.

I always liked Kato better when he played the enforcer to the Hornet's calculated and confident gangster.

Yeah same here.

Kato was like GH's living weapon.

He brought it with him everywhere and used him to prove a point (by kicking the **** outta that point).

I love Kato. He's one of the main reasons why GH is awesome.

While I prefer the Green Hornet over Kato, I agree with you, KATO just completes the character.
