Next season in the NBA the 76ers, Bobcats and Warriors are getting brand new looks and ATL is getting an alternate. That I know for sure.

Kate Price, Sixers’ Vice President of Business Operations, told yesterday to a group of season ticket holders in a fan forum that the franchise will be switching back to the old logo and the old 1982-83 uniforms (white/home, red/away) starting from next season.

I still think it's strange that Charlotte would even make a switch considering they've only been in the league for 5 years (not that I would be against it) If they make any changes I think they would be minimal. Maybe a tweaking to their jersies & a switch from their primary logo to their alternate, much like the Hornets this season.

Does anyone else get annoyed by NBA teams wearing green for St. Patty's?
Good God, these are ugly. If they're going to wear green for one holiday, why not wear orange for Halloween or lovely pastels for Easter?

a lot of the baseball teams have green hats/jerseys for St. Patty's Day but then again, it's only spring training. In the end its just a gimmick to hoch more merchandise.

For a minute yesterday, fans at the Air Canada Centre might have figured they were the beneficiaries of some glorious mistake.

They'd come to see the boring old Raptors against the blasé Pacers and yet – wonder of wonders! – there, running pre-game layups on the Bay St. hardwood were the Boston Celtics, the tradition-soaked defending champions in their shamrock-emblazoned warm-up jerseys.

Talk about the luck of the Irish.

Actually, the Celtics were not in the building. It was the Raptors wearing shamrock-emblazoned warm-up jerseys as part of an NBA merchandising gimmick. Seems the league got tired of watching beer companies and folks who make green food colouring make all the profit on St. Patrick's Day.

So it has been a few years now that a handful of teams have been wearing special-edition green gear in games leading up to March17. Nobody in Raptorland registered a word of public complaint until yesterday, when the shamrock, an image undeniably synonymous with the Celtics, was unveiled.

After the Raptors won their first game in eight tries, 110-87, you would have been excused for checking that three-leaf clover for an extra appendage. But Toronto hoopsters who care about little things like team identity and taking pride in the uniform – trivial stuff in this everything-for-a-dollar era – were not exactly amused.

"I've already registered my complaint," Anthony Parker said.

Said Shawn Marion, in his mock PA announcer's voice: "The Toronto Celtics!"

Chris Bosh shook his head at the shamrock, which will be worn again tonight in Charlotte, N.C.

"Wackness," said Bosh.

A few Raptor players weren't the only ones ticked off. The Boston Globe reported that the L.A. Lakers were "quietly not in favour" of the league selling green Lakers' T-shirts with a small shamrock on the sleeve. One assumes the Lakers would have been loudly not in favour if they'd been roped into wearing warm-up tops bearing the logo of their historic rivals. A self-respecting team, one that considers the Celtics a hated competitor and not a corporate partner, might have even refused to wear them.

Give Parker credit: He wore his regular red warm-up jersey to get loose for the second half. And though he wouldn't cop to corporate disobedience, he said: "It was a little odd wearing somebody else's logo on my shirt."

GM Bryan Colangelo said it was "awkward" to see his team decked in a Celtics identifier. And though he pointed out that the St. Patrick's Day merchandising was an initiative of the league office, he also acknowledged the team "bought in" to the plan.

Was it much ado about nothing? This was the view put forth by the Raptors' lone Irishman, Patrick O'Bryant.

Yes, we know, O'Bryant appears as Irish as, say, Shaquille O'Neal. But the new world's melting pot produces no end of zig-zag lineages, so follow the bloodline: O'Bryant's mother, Kim Collins, is a Caucasian descendant of Irish immigrants. His father, Patrick O'Bryant, isn't Irish – he is an African-American who just happened to hand down a name worthy of a Dublin address.

"Everybody's saying it's the Celtics logo. It's just a clover, a symbol of Ireland," said O'Bryant. "It would be the same if they had Prehistoric Day and everybody in the NBA had a dinosaur on their jerseys."

Just when fans of the team thought they were out from under the laughingstock that was the team's original uniforms – those chock-with-purple, cartoon-dinosaur monstrosities – Toronto's NBA punching bags made themselves the butt of another sartorial punchline.

Said Jason Kapono, laughing at the absurdity of it all: "Shamrocks and shenanigans. ... All we need now is a couple of pints of Guinness in the water bottles. Just don't let the fans know."

Ok so apparently some guy who knew a guy worked at reebok and sent a logo which then that guy posted online which was immediately removed. Another guy got a look at it before it was taken down and did a poor mans photoshop of what he could remember which is this:

OK guys, here is the photoshopped picture from the guy who saw the image at TLF when it was posted for 1 hour. It is a crude photoshop but it gives you an idea of what the original image looked like.

Now....disclaimer; This image is NOT the original image that was posted by the guy who said he received it from a relative at Reebok. This is only a crude photoshop by someone who saw the image during the 1 hour that it was up. And also...it has not been confirmed if this guy was being truly honest with us or not but some who saw the original image said it looked legit. So take it with a grain of salt. As I stated earlier, according to this guy the new logo is just the current "bubbles" with highlights added to bring out the image of the Lion. A refinement to the original, not a totally new one. It should also be noted that the image below was only posted for a day before it too was removed.

Our friends over at the Sac Bee have corrected an earlier post about the Niners unveiling their new uniforms in April & not being allowed to wear them until 2010.

Heard any updates about the new uniforms? Me neither. Just to reiterate, the team is set to unveil the new duds at its draft party on April 25 and to wear them on the field this season. ... This post replaces an earlier one in which I wrote that the uniforms wouldn't take the field until 2010. Apparently, there had been some question about the date, which has now been cleared up. Look for new duds this season ...

Found these. These could be the potential the new logos. Whatever logo they choose I've heard the Lions new colors to be Blue, Silver, and Black.

North Lawndale penalized for illegal uniforms
North Lawndale was a win away from the title game. Then came the technical for a uniform violation.

March 21, 2009
PEORIA - A public-address announcer broke the news.

Before a second would tick off the clock of its Class 3A semifinal Friday against Champaign Centennial, North Lawndale College Prep would be assessed a technical foul.

Uniform violation. Bad stripes.

As Lawndale players watched helplessly from the side of Carver Arena's court, Centennial's Jeff Johnson sank one of two free throws.

The game ended the way it started before it started: Centennial, up one, 66-65.

And North Lawndale? Perhaps the first state semifinalist to be a victim of fashion.

"It's like they gave them (Champaign Centennial) that one point," North Lawndale senior forward Jonathan Mills said. "Plus, they got the ball to start the game. That one point made a big difference, and every possession counted so much in a game like that."

The uniform violation broke a National Federation of State High School Associations rule that states the torso of the jersey — the area from an imaginary horizontal line at the base of the neckline extending to each armhole, down to the bottom hem and from side seam to side seam — must be a single solid color. Also, the side inserts (stripes) must be centered vertically below the armpit, and those stripes can't be more than 4 inches wide.

An Illinois High School Association administrator informed the referees of the infraction, and they penalized North Lawndale with the technical.

"This was very unfair because they waited until we were already Downstate to tell us of the uniform violation," Mills said. "That's what I don't understand. They could have told us about this a long time ago. We could have worn some of our old uniforms that didn't have the stripe."

Kurt Gibson, the IHSA's assistant executive director in charge of boys basketball, said he had warned the team of the violation several times over the last two years, including at the team's shootaround Thursday at Carver Arena.

"North Lawndale's stripe came around the front, which is not allowed," Gibson said.

Lawndale questioned the timing of the most recent warning. Coach Lewis Thorpe pointed out that Gibson had attended the Public League quarterfinal playoff game in February and didn't mention the uniform violation.

"I can't understand why they didn't tell us before about the uniforms," Thorpe said. "This is the most painful loss I've had since I've been coaching."

Gibson maintains he talked to Thorpe two years ago about the uniforms and said rules are reviewed with coaches before the season. Lawndale's uniforms, which the team has worn all season, were ordered in August, Thorpe said.

"They had ample warning," said Gibson, who has worked for the IHSA for seven years. "If they had to put together white uniforms of differing styles, that's fine. So long as they adhered to the uniform rule. My understanding was North Lawndale was going to bring different uniforms. ... I chose to enforce the rule at this state tournament because the IHSA has more control over this event."

Gibson added later: "I don't know how often [the rule] has been previously enforced. We hope that it is [enforced in all games]. ... However, officials have not been required to submit any kind of report to us when they have enforced it."

The uniform infraction added to a string of difficult — and bizarre — incidents surrounding the Lawndale team this season:

• In January, junior forward Jermaine Winfield was shot in the leg while trying to aid a friend when a fight broke out after a game.

• Junior center Paul Bunch was academically ineligible for much of the season.

• And most recently, Mills was suspended for allegedly cheating on an exam but was granted a temporary restraining order by a judge so he could play in the state tournament.

After those obstacles, a uniform violation might not seem very difficult, but Bunch said it was enough to shake the team.

"I think it affected us mentally a little at the beginning of the game," Bunch said. "This is something that should have been taken care of a long time ago. Why did they wait until our game at state?"

Of course, the Lawndale players also recognized that Centennial scored 65 points other than the free throw, including 21 in the fourth quarter to make a comeback that shifted the focus from Lawndale's stripe to the Chargers' baby-blue threads.

"I don't think it was the reason we lost," said junior guard Stephen Thorpe, son of the coach. "We still had a 10-point lead going into the fourth quarter. We let the game get away in the fourth quarter."

North Lawndale, which moved up to 3A after winning the Class 2A championship last March, will play Leo on Saturday for third place. Lawndale finished second in Class A in 2007.

Jags Getting New Uniforms, Too

At a time when Lions fans are waiting for evidence of the new uniforms that their favorite team will be wearing in 2009, fans of another franchise named for a jungle cat also will soon be getting a new reason to plunk down good money for a new jersey. Or two. Or three.

The Jaguars will be getting new uniforms this year.

Here’s a description of the new duds, form Vic Ketchman of Jaguars.com: “Long before last season began, I heard rumblings about [owner] Wayne Weaver wanting a cleanup and standardization of the uniform design. The concern was that there were too many combinations and that the Jaguars were losing identity. What are their true colors and which is their dominant color? I think the new uniform design is going to define the team’s colors and provide distinct home and away combinations.”

The Jags currently have black helmets with a logo on each side, teal home jerseys, white road jerseys, and a black alternate jersey. They also wear white pants and black pants interchangeably with the teal and white jerseys.

I like the change. Makes the Lion much sleeker and more streamlined, although they could have done more to it but oh well. I guess they didn't feel like straying too far and changing the colors. I can dig this new logo as the older lion has a crack addict's hair for a mane.

This is weird on a couple of other points (besides the whole McDaniels and Cutler thing). The Jets were the Jets for a long time in the AFL before the merger. They were only the Titans for their first 3 seasons.
Same goes for the Chiefs. The Dallas Texans only existed for 2 years from 1960-1962 then relocated to KC and were renamed the Chiefs.
Not sure why you would "throwback" to those teams? Especially now since the Texans and Titans are the names of other current franchises? Maybe so they could have a throwback jersey since in effect their current ones dont differ much from their AFl days?

Well, we've already been told the Sixers will wear an updated version of their '83 uniforms & I read a few weeks ago that the Warriors are looking to go retro as well. Couldn't tell you about the Bobcats, but if they can scrap their identity altogether that'd be greeeat.

Uniwatchblog.com has a bunch of interesting stuff up today. A guy made a bunch of updates to some of the MLB teams. Some with new colors, others with type face, patches etc..

Most interesting I saw was a new uni for the soon to be Miami Marlins. It has some Dolphins color action going. The road uni looks especially sweet. The Angels in a USC like Maroon & Gold color combo is pretty nice too.

Now mind you these are just what someone put together, in no way, shape or form are these going to be worn on the field. Unless of course someone from the represented organizations likes what they see and steals the ideas. But for us folks that enjoy the subtle nuances of Athletics Aesthetics, it is worth a look.

Yeah they won't be getting rid of the teal. My guess would be the black they added on the drop shadow will be going the way of the Dodo and going back to more of the traditional jersey they used to wear.

So Ummmmmm. Let's just say, that the Uni is, ahhh how should I put it...... interesting.

The concept of Seattle having a neon green jersey has been floating around for years, so I can't say I'm surprised. Those are pretty terrible, though - quite possibly the worst NFL uniform ever created.

Yeah they won't be getting rid of the teal. My guess would be the black they added on the drop shadow will be going the way of the Dodo and going back to more of the traditional jersey they used to wear.

What do you mean by this?

If you look at the Dolphins Uni, it has a black shadow around the #'s. Something that wasn't always there. The Numbers were either White with the Orange outline on the Teal Uni or Teal with the Orange on the White uni. A few years back they added the black.

All the stuff that wraps under the shoulders etc... So something that is more non-traditional.

I thought their current uni is terrific and a vast improvement over the original. Why fix something that isn't broken? That green uni makes Seahawks look like a CFL reject.

Is there something in the water there in the northwest that tends to attract bad uniforms? The Seahawks and Oregon Ducks both need an overhaul, although sometimes I think Oregon's uni's are atrocious on purpose just for fun. On March 19, Denver Nuggets head coach George Karl addressed attendees of the Sustainable Opportunity Summit at the Colorado Convention Center.

Karl spoke on behalf of Pepsi Center’s Play Clean: Eco Friendly Entertainment campaign, expanding on Kroenke Sports Enterprises’ company-wide efforts to conserve energy, save water, recycle materials and reduce the carbon footprint left by KSE properties and Pepsi Center visitors.

Karl and Nuggets Supermascot Rocky teamed up to unveil a green Nuggets jersey that the team will wear during its April 2 and April 4 home games at Pepsi Center. The special jerseys are part of the inaugural NBA Green Week, a league-wide campaign to generate awareness for protecting the environment.


I'm so sick of all the alternates and thowbacks the NBA keeps throwing out, especially when they don't have JACK**** to do with the team wearing them. Just another way to bring in the cash for Stern and the gang.
