I was initially excited about seeing Chow as Kato, but I can't help think that together with Seth Rogen that the movie will be more slapstick than action. nonetheless, I am looking forward to seeing him kick some ass as the "superhero".

:csad: damn maybe not!
We caught up with Seth Rogen tonight on the red carpet for the SXSW premiere of Observe and Report, and he gave us a hint about who might be playing Kato to his Green Hornet in the upcoming movie. Namely, it's probably not Stephen Chow. He told us: "We have no 100% official Kato at this point."
Chow has been officially replaced as director of the film, with Michel Gondry stepping in instead, but last we heard he was planning to play Kato still. Does this mean that Chow is out for good, and Rogen is out looking for a replacement? And can we figure out how on earth he'll find anyone as good as Chow for the part? What ever's been going on with Stephen it sounds like his brief stint as the Green Hornet's sidekick is over, and they're looking for someone else. We'll find out who that new someone is, in the days to come.

It's legit now. He's no longer involved with the project:

That sound? There goes most of my anticipation. Could still turn out very well, but Chow was perfect for Kato...:csad:

I still think Kato should be female.
I figured with Chow's popularity growing slightly in some circles after Kung Fu Hustle, he'd have been more inclined to learn English should he be interested in projects like this. Hell, for a hot minute, he was gonna be directing the film!
But yeah, one does have to wonder just what will become of this film. I definitely wouldn't mind a female Kato. The way I see it, we've already got Seth Rogen in the title role and Michel Gondry directing. All bets were off on this film ages ago!

I'd vote for Jon Foo to play Kato. Get him in a few speaking/acting roles before Green Hornet, and we'd have a damn good Kato. He's already starring in the Tekken movie coming out this year.

I think their better off now, using a unknown actor to play Kato. They already using a big name like Nic Cage because they lost Chow.

This was probably for the best. Chow is in his forties; Bruce Lee was twenty-six when he played Kato. It would've been like having a 40-year-old man play Robin in a Batman movie. Also, I noticed that all the interviews about the Hornet being a normal guy and taking credit while Kato does all the work came before Chow left the project. Just sayin'...
