Hey everyone!

Isn't it great? Green Lantern finally has his own board on the Hype! December 2010 is going to be upon us before we know it, but I'm sure it's going to be a fun journey getting there.

We've had the script, a release date has been announced, and now we have director Martin Campbell attached. But think of all we've got to look forward to! Casting, then the first photos that give us a glimpse of the costume, then there's production and the on-set scoops that come with it, then there's the trailers, the merchandise, the marketing overdrive, and finally, the film itself! The next couple of years should be a fun time for us GL fans, and these boards can be the hub where we all gather to share the experience!

So, now that we're all here.... let's get to know each other. Let's make this a place where we can introduce ourselves, talk generally about our love for Green Lantern, and our anticipation for the movie. Just let's try and keep Hal VS Kyle debates out of it! :cmad:

First things first, say it with me...

In brightest day, in blackest night,
No evil shall escape my sight,
Let those who worship evil's might,
Beware my power... GREEN LANTERN'S LIGHT!

You're damn right...

Thanks. :)

So Lobo, you first. How, when and why did you become a Green Lantern fan?

Lobo
03-12-2009, 10:13 PM
Not sure when exactly, but I was a really little kid watching Superfriends reruns, and just thought he was cool, I specifically remember an episode where he used the ring to fuse him and Superman into one being and they basically told everyone else to just stay out of the way, thought that was really cool :D

From there, I went on to the comics, and just loved it. Hal is my favorite, but I'm also a BIG fan of Kyle's.

Hopefully we can have some fun and enjoy the ride all together. I know Lobo is a huge Green Lantern fan, and so am I. We should also be able to provide some news here and there on the project.

Just top add, I also love Alan Scott. So, Keyser, Show, can you believe that this movie is finally happening? :wow:  :gl:

I honestly felt it was the best move for WB/DC and I am glad they are making it. I was always very confident we would see Lantern once the script was ironed out. It is exciting.

Its good to see DC/WB getting there act together, and making progress on their characters.

What did you think of the script, Show?

GL's probably my second favourite DC character after Batman.
I don't know what it is about him. Maybe it's the Star Wars-esque feel of the universe. Maybe it's the ring. Honestly, who wouldn't want a ring that could form into all kinds of cool stuff.
I really think this movie is going to be something special.

It's funny, I remember reading some Wizard article many years ago, joking that Green Lantern was the most unfilmable of all the major superheroes, given the outlandish nature and the difficulty in pulling off the likely huge level of required SFX. Oh how things have changed since then. :)

The unfilmable aspect is one of the things I'm looking forward to most!

I'm Green Lantern, real name is Rob. I've been a Green Lantern fan since 1993. At the time I was a Superman fan first and foremost. Supes made a guest appearance in Green Lantern 53, Kyle's third issue. I loved Kyle and from that point on I was hooked. I have not missed a monthly issue since 54. Not a big Hal fan, but I can tolerate him, hope to god the movie is good so that I can get a Kyle appearance somewhere down the line :)

Going by GL's format:

I'm Changeling, real name is Nick. Been a fan since 2002. I remember I really started getting into him when my dad's friend brought me a bunch of comic books, and I devoured them. I remember that there were a whole bunch of Bats and GL comics so that's basically how I became a fan.
Chris Pine for Hal!

SO excited we now have a board for GL extremely excited about this movie being in the works both animated and live action. It's a great time to be a GL fan

I'm Protocida, real name is Will. I became a GL fan when it was bought for me some Comics, including "Justice League", that, here in Brazil, has 100 pages and has the adventures of "JLA", "JSA", "The Flash" and "Green Lantern". It was Judd Winnick's fase with Kyle Rayner, and I liked. But when "Green Lantern: Rebirth" got here and I read Geoff's portrayal of the mythos, that I really became a fan. Now, GL has his own comics ("DC Dimension: Green Lantern"), with "Green Lantern", "Green Lantern Corps" and "Booster Gold". My favorite. :woot:

So I want to ask everyone who their favorite lantern is but I don't want to incite a Kyle/Hal flame war. This can be any lantern from any sector. Do we think we can do this without the whole Hal vs Kyle drama?

protocida
04-16-2009, 04:47 PM
From the aliens, Kilowog, Salaak, Tomar-Re and Graf Toren.

shiveringmelody
04-16-2009, 10:47 PM
It's always been Hal for me, then Kilowog. I am hoping to pick up on the new colored Lantern's soon. I've been out of the loop for a minute. Anyone have suggestions on where to pick up? I must say I am very intrigued by the Blue, Orange and Black Lantern Corps.

Lobo
04-16-2009, 11:13 PM
Hal is my fave, but I also love Kyle. Discounting the 2814 sector, I'd be inclined to go with Kilowog, because, well, he's awesome, ya poozer ;)

Though my all time fave non Earth Lantern is Raker Qarrigat

protocida
04-16-2009, 11:20 PM
The Green Lantern from Apokolips? (That got me surprised, I didn't knew Apokolips had GLs).

Lobo

Yes, that's one of my all time favorite GL stories.

protocida

I've been wondering. Did Raker got a new partner after Kraken accepted to become an Alpha Lantern?

Anybody know if Green Lantern's get paid? And if they do, how much?

They have to, right?

I mean, some of them are dedicated to it full-time... They have to get some sort of salary...

protocida
04-30-2009, 05:57 PM
I don't think they receive money, but they certainly enjoy the benefits of being an Green Lantern (GLs eat for free in Rigel 9).

Wesley Dodds
04-30-2009, 05:59 PM
Well, yeah but then how do the ones who have no secret identity and devote themselves entirely to the Corps pay for themselves?

protocida
04-30-2009, 07:16 PM
They don't need money.

Wesley Dodds
04-30-2009, 07:29 PM
huh? Why would you not need money just because you're a Green Lantern?

Bang!
Bang!
Bang!
Landlord: "Alright, Isamot! Open up! You're three weeks late with the rent and i aint takin' this crap no mo'!"

*Door opens*

Isamot Kol: "Away with you, old man! I'm a Green Lantern! I don't need money and i dont owe you anything!"

Landlord: "Oh. Of course. That makes complete sense. My mistake."

Yeah... Right.

protocida
04-30-2009, 07:31 PM
You didn't understood. All I'm saying is that GLs that are devoted to the Corps 24/7 probabily don't need money.

Ion Kenshin

I would go so far as to say that those that dedicate their whole life to it may not even leave Oa where everything go be provided. Also Oa is a huge planet there is nothing saying that there isnt land to grow their own food for their own.

Great to finally see the Core getting its due It's been a long time coming for the Lantern fans out there. I am happy to hear about the movie coming out and Don't quite remember the Guardians ever paying any of the Lanterns for jack it like heres a ring protect the galaxy and if you die the ring will be ok it will find someone new to take over were you failed. But again glad to hear and see Hal getting the recognition he rightfully deserves.

How, when and why did you become a Green Lantern fan?
OK -- this'll sound ancient to many of you -- please don't reserve me a room at the Old Folks Home just yet!

I got my first Green Lantern comic book in the Summer of 1963. We had just moved to Cleveland and I traded some 'Tom and Jerry' comics with the kid next door.

It was Green Lantern #24 -- I think the villain was The Shark. It was my first superhero comic and I was smitten.

Well, actually I was really smitten by the way Gil Kane drew Carol Ferris! Wow!

I have nearly every single issue of the GL incarnations since that first one, Showcases, T-shirts and a room full of GL action figures. Even got to draw 'The Green Lambkin' from the Zoo Crew for a DC project!

No other character comes remotely close in my affection. I'm glad I found this thread!

Some of them do, but others didn't. Katma Tui for one would remain silent while charging her ring.
