thegame you got to remember from the concept art to the real thing some things will look slightly different between the two. I am sure the boots wont look so much biker like when we see them on screen.
As for the body parts it looks fine. they look fine, and took elements from classic, the modern copiol design and then added their own changes to it. HEck all film costumes tend to have changes and we got to live with it. Some do things very well like spider-man raimi costume or it could be terrible like singer's xmen/superman.

I think the reason they chose this for his costume is just because thats what he's wearing in the comics these days. ever since his resurection IIRC
Welcome aboard Al!
Well yeah, there have been some rumors Coipel who designed the new comic costumes also helped out with the movie. We're hoping for a peek at those concept designs.

My only real concern is that the rubber arms might ruin some of the action with immobility. Ya think film makers would have learned their lesson after the first Batman movie!
and yet the next 3 batman films pretty much proved that they didn't!

Personally I am tired about complaining about his costume, when there really is no point to it. The film has been shot and you either like the look or hate it. I know there are a few minor things that I wish were different, and I even posted a manip with a few small changes I wanted his costume to include. However, in the scheme of things I am still very satisfied with his costumes look and really looking forward to seeing this movie.

When he's on the big screen smashing troll skulls with Mjolnir no one will be paying attention to his pants/boots/sleeves/Underoos anyway.

totally surfer, there is nothing we can do about the costume now since the film has been shot and is now in the editing stage and all that. only thing we can do is say what we dont like in hopes maybe for avengers or possible sequels he could have a modified look.

I don't know guys....I've never read Thor and got a techno vibe from the character at all--minus the architecture, which I couldn't figure out and wrote off as some devine designs or something.
Everytime I've read Thor, I always got a sword and sorcery, magic and mace feel to the character and Asgard in general. Thus I was expecting his costume to fall more in line with that take. Even so, the costume is extremely uninspiring compaired to IM and SM.
And Corp., I'm not trying to hate on this film, if you were addressing me earlier. It's just that certain expectations have to be be met or exceeded IMO with these films. TIH, SM and IM met my expectations and exceeded them in some ways because I, like other fans, have come to have low or cautious expectations with these films. I thought Thor was a shoe (?) in after seeing TIH and IM--films handled by Marvel. Especially after hearing the initial proposal for Thor, ....Thor shot straight to the top of my list for must see films....but the costume dude......ugh.......the costume.......
The costume, for me calls into question the direction they are going with this character for this film. I honestly cannot see rock trolls, hulking frost giants with wooden clubs and a pethora of other magical, mythilogical type creatures in this film after seeing the costume design.

Time will tell. Nothing I've seen has made me even consider not watching the movie at all, so the real test will be what I think after I step out of the theater. I'm still confident Branagh will do a great job on the big things.

I see NOTHING wrong with Thor's costume. It looks fantasy based, but with a touch of sci-fi.

Me either. I thought THOR was supposed to look like some kind of scandinavian super-viking warrior and not an amercian gladiator. Lundgren almost looked better in MOTU. :wow:
I think the only reason he got that spacy design is so he wont look "out of place" next to Iron Man which sucks. I hate the way they're doing these movies.
I hope they bring back Matthew Vaughn for the reboot.

Well I for one love the outfit. He just looks like a bad ass. And Kudos to Chris Hemsworth for the work he put in at the gym. You can tell how much he packed on from where he was in Star Trek. He was athletic in Star Trek, but he was build more like a basketball guy, where now he looks like a 300 lbs linebacker.

Eh, I don't think Superman's build is as important as Thor's, to be honest. Superman's an alien with powers granted to him by sci fi wonkiness. He also has to blend in with normal people in his life as Clark. So a relatively normal-sized person is okay in that role. I was fine with Routh in Superman Returns, actually--if the rest of that movie weren't such a steaming pile of crap, Routh could've been a pretty good Superman.
Thor, on the other hand, is a much more visceral character. He's a warrior and his main tactic in battle is hitting things with a hammer. There's much more of a physicality to him. He feels weightier on the page when I read his comics as opposed to Superman's. It's a question of tone, really. A massive, muscular presence is required for Thor, but not as much for Superman.

The 'techno viking' thing is totally Thor, if we're speaking in terms of Jack Kirby stuff. Revisit the old "Journey into Mystery" comics when he made his first appearance. It's all about strong, clashing rainbow colors, time travelling freaks and bizarro gravity-chamber prisons. This current costume vibes just fine with the original essence of the Marvel Thor.
Am I wrong? Any early Thor fans here?
TheCorpulent1
06-24-2010, 02:23 PM
Several of us have made similar comments. I can understand the desire to see a more old world look to Thor, though. Many people are just getting into the character after JMS' recent relaunch and JMS' take has been decidedly more "old world viking" than "techno viking."
That said, I'm personally pretty happy with the costume. It's not perfect, but it definitely looks good.

IMO, there are no helmets to show. Or they will use them even less than Spidey used his mask. :woot:
People are making assumptions about indoor/outdoor activities to explain the lack of helmets so far, but the only occasion in which I saw a helmet in this production was on Heimdall's head. And it was a big, horned one.
And he was INSIDE that hall, probably in the presence of Odin.

So helmets were made and then they decided to just not use them?
We have three pictures. The first is Thor looking contemplative. We need to focus on his face, so no helmet.
The second has Thor and Loki in the presence of Odin. Odin looks pretty happy, so it's probably a casual occasion, therefore no helmets. Loki also obviously hasn't gone completely evil yet, so no helmet with the massive horns.
The third is once again Thor and Odin, looking like they are having a father and son chat. So not a situation that requires a helmet.
Remember, at this point the promotional images are also advertising the actors, so we need to be able to identify them.
Also we do have the image of Idris Elba as Heimdall, obviously acting as the guard, holding his weapon, and wearing his quite elaborate helmet.
I fully expect to have a lot of scenes with Thor sans-helmet, but I don't believe there will be no helmets at all.

To be honest i have a bigger problem with Hemsworth than the suit he's wearing. He looks more like a cast member from Gossip Girl than the mother****ing Thor, the guy who takes a full power blast from Ironman, then grabs him by the neck, rips his faceplate off and then has a "friendly" chat with him. But then again that matches his clean, crisp, silken space suit. The Thor i am talking about is wearing 10 tons of steal, leather and badassery and lives in a stone castle.
But then again i am no avid reader of his, so what do i know?

LA Times has a shot of the Odin Throne room and it looks like Thor's helmet is under his left arm, but he's seen from the back and the cape covers most of him. Loki and Odin have helmets on, and they look okay, so I assume Thor will have his on at times. The shot I have seen of him wearing it, it looks like the helmet from the current comic.

See, this is what i mean when i say that i want comic book movies to make me open up my eyes and drool at the awesomeness. This is what i've been missing from Nolan's Batman movies. Dont misunderstand me, i dont want Gotham to look like that, but like i always say, apart from that Hong Kong scene there was nothing jaw dropping in TDK.
I mean, why did Bruce's penthouse look like an empty car dealership and why wasnt the fundraiser done on a majestic roof (rooftop pool parties are a common thing in Batman comics) like this?
http://img836.imageshack.us/img836/3062/batmanandrobin4011.th.jpg (http://img836.imageshack.us/i/batmanandrobin4011.jpg/)
Sorry for yet another Nolan rant.
i agree. batman still seems more like james bond in tdk than batman. hope thor is a huge success. this could be a turning point in comic book movies. instead of going full realism like tdk directors wont fear going into the realm of fantastical, when it calls for it of course.

We all just need to remember that there was concept art earlier in the Thor camp that most of us were somewhat up in arms about, and at that point Thor had finished production. However, after seeing some of the final product, most of us are totally approving of what we see. I am just stating that the Captain America production art (especially since the movie is in the early stages of filming) does not mean we will not be happy with what we get in the finalized Captain America movie. I have faith in Marvel that they will do honor to their characters and that Chris Evans will give us a great performance.

to be honest of the comic book movies coming out...Thor is the one I have the least concerns about...infact before this weekend and news from Comic con. I think the director of Thor is one of the most perfect choices ever. The only better choice would have been Peter Jackson and thats only by a small fraction.
My hopes for Cap are almost gone. Between the abysmal costume and everytime Joe Johnson interviews for this movie he lowers my hopes for the movie.
I am optimistic about Green Lantern but the costume lowered it a little

I've been very confident about the team involved, but I admit I had some trepidation about how the finished product would resonate with viewers. Thor's a pretty tough character to adapt given the complexity and outlandishness of his backstory relative to other characters. But judging from the reactions to the trailer and all the news from Comic-Con, it seems like they succeeded beyond my wildest expectations.

Thor is definitely being converted, since filming as already over. I'm pretty sure Captain America is being converted as well.

Because she'd been turned into Sekhmet lady of Slaughter and Cho and Thor turned her back. They're looking for Loki's son who's trying to collect these relics to become immortal

I had Epilepsy as a kid (I'm 49 now, out grown it) The NEW 3D would have given me a fit back then. It works like a strobe light, Stobe lights can cause seizures.
I even have a pair of glasses that are CLEAR and have tiny little prisms in the lenses that pull warm colors foreword and push cold colors back. I've made plenty of COOL art pieces using the Glasses, THEY can also give people headaches.
That's true, I guess it would depend on the person. I was just talking in general terms as MOST people don't have problems with today's 3D technology.

They still say have tests done first. This is because the 3D tv's use the same tech. Just a safety thing

Speaking of which, I just got a 65 inch Mits DLP and just bought the 3D Adapter, and I have to say that the 3D looks MUCH better at home than it does in the theater. For one the glasses are MUCH better than the glasses that you get at the theater.

Hate to say it, but that's as close to silver as you're going to get, without it coming off just looking crappy. It would almost look fake and it just wouldn't look right with the colors of the costume.

YEAH I heard that 3D used on the tv is better than the theater. must be because the image is reduced more.
I found using those 3D prism glasses that the smaller the image the easier the eye sees the 3d even tho it works in a different manner.
See EVERY Color no matter what it is has a COOL and WARM version and depending on how you apply the color to a piece of art depends how deep the 3D can be.

Ok, I lied. I'm still perturbed there's nothing up on the Marvel panel. Why is it so wrong to show un-authorized youtube snippets of something on the official Superhero site?
I've said this elsewhere but I'll say it again.....I played in a bar band in college where the l leader loved to talk on the mic all night. He actually liked to go on too much. The audience got to a point every evening where they were put off. (They just came to hear music) We in the band would yell behind him as he was on the mic, "We're losing momentum!" This feels very much like that. I know we've got a whole other year or two for Marvel to release stuff but I want this stuff now!
You're losing momentum Marvel! At least on this event.
This guy is HUGE!!
You know, I can't wait for someone to come out and say, "oh so they hired a bodybuilder instead of a real actor. movie's gonna bomb"...

Anybody Knows a link to see Thor Trailer????
It can't be posted here.
As for Thor's costume, I like it, I like it a lot, but It think there are only two things I would add. One would be gloves, another thing would be a face plate to Thor's armor, or maybe something like a cyromask.
