Eh, I'm not that good. But I think starting a Trent-Reznor-like attitude about the marketplace would be cool. :up:

I mean, I fully supported the WGA in the writer's strike last year. If you're under contract and other crew members (namely actors) get residuals, then by golly writers should get good residuals too. But in a contest, everyone knows the terms. The client might get sucky work and most of the entrants will not get paid, but those are the risks and you'd be an idiot not to know that. But propping yourself up by saying, "Well, only professionals with an expensive art school education can do this kind of work" just reeks of bitterness.

However, if I interviewed for a design position at a company and got asked to do spec work on the spot, I'd say no. It's a different situation than a contest where the rules are spelled out for you and contest is open to everybody. Being asked to do spec when you want a professional position is definitely more shady.
