I couldn't see one of these so I thought I would make my own. Feel free to delete it if I was wrong.
So who are your suggestions?

Well isn't it a bit premature to expect Sharon Carter in Captain America?

No she's a staple, however she won't show up till after Cap one and avengers.

So then yes this is premature.

Why would she have to show up after Avengers? She could show up as a SHEILD field agent in that, couldn't she?
marcvader
04-21-2009, 02:24 PM
She could definately be a field agent in the Avengers as a nod to the fans and flesh her out in Cap 2.

Does CA have any other potential love interest? It's hard to imagine a superhero movie that doesn't have the requisite romantic subplot.

OR something that I admit could be a terrible idea but I think could work if executed extremely well: Carter could sorta be our main character in the Avengers. Kind of like Myers in Hellboy except...not lame. Instead of some boring newbie, we could get to know the inner-workings of S.H.I.E.L.D. and life on the Helicarrier through the just-another-day-at-the-office grind of one their top agents. Then we'd be sort of re-introduced to our Avenger's through her perspective (and it wouldn't be a favorable one, as these freaks are treading on her territory and being treated like rock stars by the higher-ups) - of course as soon as that happened the spotlight would rightfully shift to them, but from a storytelling standpoint she could serve as easy exposition. And despite being cynical toward the whole Avengers project, she could reluctantly become the 1st person in the present day that Cap forms a bond with, since the guy should initially be a bit of a mess after learning everyone he ever knew/loved is long dead and gone. But she'd have to be a kickass entertaining character for the audience to be cool with this, and I wouldn't want anything romantic happening between them in the 1st movie. You know, maybe she's a bit anti-authority and is currently in a bit of hot water with Fury/her commanders and is forced, as punishment, to acclimate Captain America to life in the present (which she would consider 'babysitting'). So they could develop a kind of snarky rapport and she wouldn't even really like him 'till the end or something.
I know, I know, flame away. I just think they don't have to wait 'till Cap 2 to make her a major character. She could be the most prominent member of SHIELD after Fury that we know. And SHIELD will likely be a huge part of the Avengers - like, probably the main "setting" - so I think it would be a little weird if the only main character we know from SHIELD is Fury himself.

She's too old to play Sharon now, but Peta Wilson wouldve made a rocking Agent 13:-

As I said thought - too old -so the point is kinda moot.

If there's a "gateway" character who is the central focus of Avengers and works for S.H.I.E.L.D. and is basically the audience's eyes & ears, it should be Hank Pym, imo

I don't see a reason as to why we should be thinking of a person for Sharon already, I mean unless you want to cast Dakota Fanning playing her as the little girl she'd be in this first movie. :hehe:

It is probably premature, but for the sake of argument I say Abbie Cornish.

As far as love interests go. Cap I think had a fling with Carter's aunt, Peggy Carter during the war when Peggy was fighting in the Nazi resistance.
There's also the fiance he had in the Ultimate comics that ended up marrying Bucky. Also in the Ultimate comics he started dating the Wasp . . . but then she was still in love with the wifebeater so she got back with Hank.
Just saying, if this is an all world war II cap movie, then we wouldn't see Sharon Carter in it unless we get some sort of nod through the aunt character if they decide to incorporate that subplot.
FaT_tONle
04-24-2009, 08:59 PM
I don't think they will use an Aunt... just random flings with young nurses shortly after he gets out of the program. These should mainly be a light war movie so love interests aren't pivotal.
flickchick85
04-24-2009, 10:12 PM
Plus, if he were to have some heavy romance in the 1st one, he'd be all depressed in The Avengers since he basically just wakes up and she's (long since) dead in an instant. He's already gonna be dealing with that fact with everyone else he ever cared about. We don't want him to be too angsty in The Avengers.

04-24-2009, 10:44 PM
Now THIS would have been a good role for Scarlett Johansen!
TheVileOne

The lover he has wouldn't necessarily be dead.
Just really old.
flickchick85
04-25-2009, 01:04 AM
True. But if Cap is around 30 (as I think he'll be in this version to better match up with the other Avengers), and if she was roughly the same age, then she'd more than likely be gone.
Chewy
04-25-2009, 01:14 AM
If Cap were 30 and she were, too, she'd be 100-ish. People can live to be 100. Realistically she'd probably be gone, but it all depends on the direction they want to take it in
flickchick85
04-25-2009, 02:12 AM
That's why I said "more than likely." With all the characters and backstories they're gonna have to throw together and juggle for The Avengers, I can't see them hanging on too strongly to anyone from Cap's former life (aside from maybe one friend or something). The whole "my true love is suddenly 70 years older than me" angst is like a whole other subplot that they don't really need or have time for - especially when his "real" love interest is supposed to be in the present. I just don't see it happening. It could, obviously, but imo, it's very unlikely.
And this train of thought is giving me Forever Young flashbacks. Boo.

not sure if this has been discussed but Kate Mara has been cast in iron man 2 in an unnamed role could she be Sharon?
TheVileOne
04-26-2009, 04:54 AM
Well is that legit though? I've lost count of all the fake casting rumors we've seen on movies like this.
Even when the DVD was released people still thought Hillary Swank was in Iron Man.

I'd say that Sophia Myles would be great. She's a great actress, she's pretty hot, and she's not a "superstar" that would eat up half the budget. Watch Trisan & Isolde or Art School Confidential for examples.

Yvonne is a not bad. But I worry about typecasting as she's famous already for playing a secret agent type character. Oh, and I say Gail in the opening scenes, or maybe in a photograph Ca has with him, but definately Sharon as his love interest in the sequels, if not in this one.

Ashley Scott:

What about Ali Larter for Sharon Carter?
Dog Brother #1
07-16-2009, 12:59 AM
Larter for Sharon would be good, if they never make a Ms. Marvel movie (which prolly won't happen, anyway)
NEXUS 6
07-16-2009, 12:43 PM
I think Larter is over suggested, but I haven't seen her acting too much. She's like the female Ryan Reynolds or Johnny Depp... suggested for every single character. However, I do think she has the look for most of the roles she is suggested for. This one included.
But I would prefer Gail for WWII (first movie) and Sharon for post-thaw(Avengers and Cap sequels).

My top pick is Courtney Ford. She was funny in her brief stint on How I Met YOur Mother and she was good in the movie Fling.

Yvonne Strahovski would be perfect, but given she basically plays the character on Chuck, she may not take it in order to avoid being typecast.

A dead ringer for Sharon Carter and can pull off the secret agent schtick. Potter was generating lots of buzz as a blonde version of Julia Roberts but never broke through to become a household name. With the visibility of comic based move, it would be an easy sell for her to raise her profile again. Extra points for working opposite the actor who was long the #1 fanpic for Captain America, Mark Valley (The Human Target) while both on "Boston Legal".

I wouldn't go that far. I thought Robert Patrick was really entertaining in it. I wanted his character to get his own movie where he just goes around killing and robbing people and generally being a magnificent bastard.

Ya know, I once thought that Robert Patrick was a possibility for The Red Skull if he can pull off a German accent. But I gotta admit that I thought he came across kinda corny in The Marine. Just an opinion.
MilkmanDan
01-16-2010, 06:19 AM
Well, obviously he was chewing the scenery, but under the circumstances I think that was the right thing to do. A more serious villain would have made the movie even worse. At least Patrick looked like he was having a good time playing the part and that made him kind of fun to watch.

Reviving this thread b/c I've been wondering about this character quite a bit lately. First, I'm pretty confident she won't be in this movie at all but alas, there's no Sharon thread on the Avengers board, and I'm really hoping she appears in that film even though we've gotten no indication of that so far. And what I'm REALLY hoping is that they don't just get Hayley Atwell to play her with a different hair color or something. I hate it when they do that in movies as I always find it distracting.
That said, if they do feature Sharon and don't use Atwell, I DO hope they cast someone who at least bears a passing resemblance to her. I mean, Peggy's her aunt (or maybe great-aunt at this point?), not her mother, so it doesn't have to be a strong resemblance, but the resemblance should be there, imo. So it's gotten me to thinking, what fairly known actresses even DO resemble Atwell? To me, Atwell's most prominent facial characteristic is her bone-structure: she has a wide face with very strong, rounded features - not delicate or angular like most starlets today (including Sienna Miller, suggested above). Therefore, anyone with that type of bone-structure could hypothetically pass as a relative of hers, imo. Here are few that come to mind that I think could pass Atwell's niece:
Anna Paquin
http://img638.imageshack.us/img638/7426/annapaquinz.jpg
For the record, I absolutely don't want her in the role, because I generally find her to be pretty annoying and yes, there's that other Marvel character she's already known for (ruining), but she is a well-known and respected actress, and the resemblance there is very strong, imo, so I had to mention her.
Michelle Monaghan
http://img153.imageshack.us/img153/9940/michellemonaghan5.jpg
This is a much better option to me, but she's already my top choice for Lois Lane, so I'd prefer her in that role. Still, I'd be perfectly happy with her as Sharon.
Katee Sackhoff
http://img573.imageshack.us/img573/4477/kateesackhoff.jpg
She kicked a** in BSG, but this would reek of typecasting. Plus, I think I've heard that she's trying to get away from this particular "type."
Zooey Deschanel
http://img684.imageshack.us/img684/6563/zooeydeschanelc.jpg
She's supposedly already Betty Brant, and frankly, I'm not sure I could ever buy her in an action role.
Romola Garai
http://img64.imageshack.us/img64/7559/romolagarairomolagarai6.jpg
She's actually the first one that came to mind when I was mentioning that type of bone-structure, but other than that, she really doesn't bear much resemblance to Atwell at all. Still, she's a fantastic actress (and one of Atwell's fellow Golden Globe nominees this year), and while she always seems to be in period costume dramas and never action movies, she still seems to constantly play characters who are badasses of their eras in their own ways, so I could totally buy it.
That's all I've come up with at the moment. That said, I have a strong suspicion that Keira Knightley, who was almost our Peggy, might have been saved for consideration for Sharon. I guess I could see a slight resemblance there, too.
Any other decent, relatively well-known actresses ('cause Sharon's a bigger and longer-lasting character than Peggy, so I doubt they'd go with an unknown here) who bear a resemblance to Hayley Atwell?
bert19
12-16-2010, 04:14 AM
Sienna was the only good thing about GI Joe.
She also really didn't give a toss about being in the movie either. Classic case of just being in a big studio film for £££ and a bit more publicity.
Although Hayley Atwell was great, it would be weird seeing her again in another role, they should cast another actress as good as her. I'd like to see Abbie Cornish as Sharon Carter.

But isn't Amanda Righetti kinda sorta officially unofficially playing Sharon Carter already in CA:TFA, and supposedly re-upping for The Avengers?
There's no official announcement about Amanda Righeti's role in the Avengers, actually they just have said she's a SHIELD's agent...and I hope she's not gonna play Sharon Carter, this role needs a more charismatic and talented actress.
