He is basically the big director right now succesfully Rebooting Star Trek. Could he be the perfect director to Bring a freash Take on Superman to the big screen once again? Kevin Smith seems the think so: :http://splashpage.mtv.com/2009/05/29/kevin-smith-says-jj-abrams-should-handle-superman-reboot/

Would you want him to?

Honestly I think he did a fantastic job with Star Trek and He could also so do the same justice to Supes but I would want someone else.

This is why the writers at MTV's Splash Page have no credibility:

It’s no secret that Abrams’ “Superman” script has become the stuff of legends around the movie scene, with many of those who’ve seen the “Lost” co-creator’s screenplay raving about how impressive it was — and how much of a misstep Warner Bros made in not going that route with the Man of Steel.

We hear this all.the.time! A director proves to be perfect for one franchise. So fanboys automatically say, "_________ should totally do Superman because he'd be perfect" and then proceed to nerdgasm themselves into believing it's true because "there can't be any other way!"

We have tons of examples of this - Singer (post-X2 but before the fall out over The Last Stand), Nolan, Synder, Jackson, McG and now Abrams.

I loved Star Trek and Abrams proved he was the right guy to relaunch that franchise and give it it's balls back. But it's literally apples and oranges.

And Double Down's right. To say that everyone loved the Abrams' Superman script is 100% revisionist history. :whatever:

i havent read the script and really dont want him doing supes. Not that i think he would do a bad job just that he rebooted star trek.. i think thats enough and he showed focus on that franchise.

I've never understood that either, Jamie. Look at the top-loved superhero movies of all time: Superman: The Movie, Batman (1989), X-Men and X2, Spider-Man and Spider-Man 2, Batman Begins and The Dark Knight, and Iron Man. None of those were made by guys coming off other huge super franchise movies.

Right now, everyone is loving on Abrams because of the insane popularity and success of Star Trek. But I guarantee that.will.change.

Oh, and you can bet this thread will be closed. :yay:

We've had this Abrams conversation/debate for the longest time, and it's not a coincidence that they keep getting closed.

Now, Showtime won't even need to cite Star Trek as his reason for shutting this thread down. That picture ought to do it.

I dont think this should be closed unless it becomes another Trek war thread. This is for the reboot; a "JJ Abrams for Superman" thread has every right to be here the same way a "Routh for Superman" thread does. The last one was closed because it was merged with the Trek thread and turned into a Returns debacle.

If the discussion was kept on WHY Abrams is a good director for Superman, and not how 'star trek translates into a good superman film' or how 'star trek got more right returns' than it should be open. Even those 2 arguments could be used as reasons WHY he'd be a good director (its like saying the Routh thread should be shut because this isnt the superman returns forum and they justify his casting by saying he was good in Superman Returns). Others films that possible Superman cast & crew have worked on are going to be brought up; I dont see how that justifys locking a thread.

I am prob. the biggest Abrams dude here and the reality is it ISNT happening; they cant do what Smith says (give it to him and just say "go") because Abrams will be doing ATLEAST 1 more star Trek film, if not 2 because #2 is a guarenteed smash thanks to the originals word of mouth.

I do wish that the 1st draft never happened; had the 2nd draft, which I have, been the script that was reviewed, EVERYTHING would have been so different. Its so much more normal (though I say I prefered draft 1 outside of the last 5 pages) and more in line with what the modern fans would expect (though Ill add, hacvign seen TREK, its ridiculous how many concepts from his script were put in that film.) the whole perception some fans have with Abrams would be totally different than the current negative one they have.

And his first film, MI3, kicked ass.

Abrams is doing the Trek sequels.

It will be a loooong looong while before the possibility of him ever going BACK to WB (that screwed him over) to do Superman even exists..

No matter how remote a possibility..

As for this thread;

Transformers comes out -> Bay should do Superman!

TDK comes out -> Nolan should do Superman!

Watchmen comes out -> Synder should do Superman!

...that is all

People wanted Snyder after 300 -- but after Watchmen his name hasn't been brought up since.

No DD,

During the Watchmen hype (when trailers were coming out and such) there was plenty of comments and threads wanting him for Supes.

There was even Louis Leterrier for Supes amidst the Incredible Hulk hype...

When I said "after Watchmen," I obviously was talking about after Watchmen came out in the theaters.

I can't quote it, since Showtime closed the "The Plan Is Just To Reintroduce Superman..." thread, but this is what I said May 8 in relation to people discussing Snyder for Superman:

"Zach Snyder hasn't been mentioned in this thread since Watchmen came out and his own Superman-related thread died a week after Watchmen came out."
