I am unhappy. I have been looking forward to this movie for months. But once I watched the full trailer, then saw the international one sheet, and now this clip.
I think I need to go read some of the IDW comics. And watch G.I. Joe Resolute.
The one thing I do think was done well in this clip was the movement on the suits. Not a fan of the suits, but they seem to move fluidly.

Ok...wait just a DAMN minute here....Snake Eyes an Storm Shadow.....bone in this movie  ..alright really this is the last straw..Sommers officially needs to get strung up and beaten with a sack of doorknobs...geezus almighty...aren't they cousins..or brothers or something, i mean really!
Also..truth be told I thought that clip was pretty bad ass...DONT get me wrong those suits DO look like a ****** Power Rangers kinda situation (I personally think if the faces were covered up a bit more in some fashion they wouldn't look as goofy or something I dont know what it is..perhaps its the bland colours too...I dunno can't put my finger on it) and although the sound was out of sync the action beats were pretty cool..not sure how much they chopped up in that clip but yeah...I thought it was awesome how Storm Shadow throws the ninja stars at the guards..so people die in this thats cool...and the way he gets tackled by Ripcord after he shoots that bad ass missle launcher with the green nanomite thingies....I dunno I thought it was kinda cool.
...the movie as a whole though........sigh....well lets just say I'm not holdin' my breath.
I mean I guess ultimately I would love for Sommers and Co. to have actually made a pretty decent spot on G.I. Joe movie that when you saw clips/photos from it it was unmistakebly Joe...but I would settle for a movie that although doesn't look like Joe IS infact the characters and whatnot but ...is just really ******' cool you know? Honestly though all kidding aside about Sommers, he does have some cool ideas and I think the guy has cool intentions..he's like a big kid playing with action figures which is what I like, but his execution and the way he just layyyys on the cheese with his stupid humor ruins his projects.....Mummy and Mummy 2 were pretty bad ass (especially the action in M2..it was amazing!) but Van Helsing?....BRUTAL!!!

Frankly, this is 40 seconds, and just isn't enough for me to make a realistic assessment of how good this movie will be.
It's not great, but it's also 40 seconds, cut to hell for a "sneak peek".
It's not the worst thing ever seen on film.
The Accelerator Suits actually look and work a lot better than I thought they would, and Storm Shadow does look pretty badass.
As for the "nice shoes", line...it's not something I'd write a character saying, nor would most of us, but its not exactly groanworthy. I don't see anything resembling "bad acting" yet.
Still hoping for a movie that's at least fun.

I wonder why Baroness and Storm Shadow need to break into the building and having to deal with the Joes, if they have to giant spaceships who could fly to Eiffell Tower and shoot the warhead from there...
In the trailer it shows huge rockets coming out of the ground which is what I figured hit the ET. I guess those are used for something else.

In the script The Baroness has her scientist husband do something for her to weaponize those nanites before firing the missle at the Eiffel tower. Maybe they're just combining those sequences.

Except that one makes you smirk or chuckle.
I gotta say I am not a huge fan of G.I. Joe but I am familiar with Stephen Sommers and I gotta say I expected a huge pile of ****...and it looks like the mission was accomplished. Mediocre CGI, script seems the same, teh ****ty $uper $uits, acting is awful I would have to say that is the worst I have seen from this. Channing Tatum's line delivery is painful. But...from the looks of it it will make a nice chunk of change and it looks very Michael Bayish which I guess is a good thing to some people. **** blowin' up oh yeahz!

I don't remember anyone who wasn't a blithering idiot actually chuckling or smiling when Gordon said "I have gotta get me one of those", a line blatantly ripped from INDEPENDENCE DAY and about a dozen other films.
The script for GI JOE isn't great, but it's not exactly generic.
The worst acting you've seen? Really?
What's so horrible about the CGI? I keep hearing this, and I keep wondering exactly what people are talking about. Even stuff that should look COMPLETELY ridiculous (dodging missles, climbing walls in suits, etc) looks well rendered.

Really?

I don't know about the actual plot or anything I haven't really been following this movie at all but I am talking about the lines I have seen. The nice shoes line seems out of leftfield to just try and give Miller something funny to say.
And I didn't say it is the worst acting I have ever seen but its the worst thing I have seen for G.I. Joe overall. I think Channing Tatum as a leading man is teh suck. He is another pretty boy actor with no range.
The horrible thing about the CGI is that like in The Mummy movies or Van Helsing Sommers overuses the **** out of it instead of only using it when necessary he seems to WANT to use it whenever he can and it comes off as cartoony looking he uses it so much.
And thanks for calling me an idiot.
The Guard
06-02-2009, 12:36 PM
I didn't call you an idiot. Read my statement again.
"Nice shoes", unlike Batman's "nice coat", is clearly not meant to actually be funny, because it's not set up at all or reacted to, it's just a throwaway line, although she does act it for a moment, pausing to recognize the moment, etc.
It's basically just a line to show that yes, Ana is engaged in an evil enterprise, but that she's also a woman. There are several moments throughout the script where her "evil" is called into question, and one that comes right after this sequence on the rooftop with Duke. It isn't anything groundbreaking, and it's not meant to be.
And I didn't say it is the worst acting I have ever seen but its the worst thing I have seen for G.I. Joe overall.
I think Channing Tatum as a leading man is teh suck. He is another pretty boy actor with no range.
So's someone like Sam Worthington, and he's continually praised. There are a ton of actors in the business without much real range. I don't see how acting range has much to do with playing a singleminded soldier, but hey, that could just be me.
Yeah, it makes me long for the GI RESOLUTE style of acting. Everyone trying their best to sound like the same 350 pound chainsmoking warrior God.
Oh...wait...

...
I don't personally recall anyone who didn't strike me as a blithering idiot or of low intelligence laughing at this scene. I feel that this scene is pandering beyond measure, and the people I noticed who did laugh at it struck me as the type of people who laugh at any attempt of humor. I.E, what I consider to be blithering idiots.
It's meant to be funny and fails. Can't convince me otherwise unless you wrote the script yourself sorry.
Perhaps, but there are different levels of humor, and attempts at it.
There are small ironies, which audiences aren't meant to actually laugh at. "Nice shoes", "nice coat", etc.
There are lowbrow jokes, which are generally designed to appeal to the lowest common denominator or those who writers apparently though would get bored when things like giant tanks roaring past happened. Things that have nothing to do with a particular character's story or personality, that can be broadly applied, like "I have got to get me one of these!", "Dayumm!", "Whoaaaaa!" and the like.
There are actual attempts at jokes, which writers bother set up during the story, and then have a punchline, and are meant to be funny. Stuff like Morgan Freeman's "Didn't you get the memo?" falls into this category.
There are ongoing jokes, that are set up over the course of a film and consistently played for laughs.
And many more. There are all kinds of humor. Just because a writer wanted you to notice the lighter side of a character doesn't mean they were ever trying to make you bust out laughing.
Hell, if every bit of humor was actually supposed to tickle our funny bones, then half of THE DARK KNIGHT's humor would fail miserably.
And I have no idea what RESOLUTE is but okay.
GI JOE: RESOLUTE. An animated version of the mythos that fans seem to think the movie should have been more like.
I doubt the shoes line is meant for laughs. It's like the cop in TDK "have a nice trip, see you next fall". It's not to meant to actually be laughed at.

Actually I was expecting a big mess especially since the director was announced. Hollywood seems to be cashing in on every idea that was popular when we were kids and that is what I expect...a cash in movie. They are developing a live action Where's Waldo and Stretch Armstrong too for god sakes and I am expecting those to be piles of **** as well. This looks exactly like Transformers. is it me or does these suits look plastic made ? They are ridiculous. I'm glad Stephen Sommers learned me that in Paris, walls and windows are made of paper. He is right, replacing glass and cement by paper avoid injuries when a terrorist launch a plastic rocket against the blue scr... the Effeil Tower.
Sienna Miller's baroness is the only thing that seems good. And will probably be the only reason I will see that movie (well, I also like to see ridiculous cheesy B movie). She seems to have a lot of fun in her leather costume. Can't wait to see duke handcuff her.:whatever:

My early opinion that this movie would be total garbage is getting more and more backup as time goes by.
This trailer SUCKS. The CGI is horrid. The action makes no sense. Plus, we keep hearing that the suits are used nce and then done away with, yet EVERY action scene we are shown has the suits.

Being serious, I have rarely seen so many continuity error in 42s of a blockbuster movie. Between the glasses that magicaly become sunglasses, the night at the beginning that turns out day in the end, the Baroness costume when she is in the car is clearly not the one she had in the rest of the scene and the architecture. (when the car stopped, we are in mediterranean renaissance place which becomes "Paris" without explanation)
It's really bad. If you add the stupid suits, the scene where Sienna Miller try unconvincingly to "use" a gun, the one when Storm Shadows crossed a visibly paper wall, I think Stephen Sommers should be ashamed by his work.
(And I won't even mention how bland and inexpressive Channing Tatum seems to be in all of we have seen)

I assume this is sarcasm, because this line was neither funny or clever.
People were just expecting this to be TDK level of seriousness.
Wait...people wanted it to be, or were actually expecting it to be?
Expecting any remotely faithful version of GI JOE to be as serious as THE DARK KNIGHT is kind of silly. Nevermind that THE DARK KNIGHT had quite a bit of humor in it.
The day/night thing doesn't matter, because that's two different scenes. One of them appears to be when The Baroness arrives "home" to see her husband, and the other appears to be later in the script, when the missle is launched at the Eiffel Tower from whatever that building is.
The magically changing glasses is not a continuity error. It's her glasses changing their shade. She has high tech glasses.
"Plastic made"? Possibly. Are you unfamiliar with the term "prop" or "costume"?
Paper walls? I guess if the drywall you can clearly see there is considered paper...
What was so unconvincing about her use of the gun? She fired it in the air.
What's so horrid about the CGI?
Etc, etc, etc.
I'm starting to think some of you are just mad your slightly over the top cartoon/comic universe became an over the top movie.

They are probably just transition glasses that are regular indoors and then fade to black for shade outside. I can overlook continuity errors being as that is far from the worst thing that appears wrong with this film, but Im going to hold back till I actually see the film before I pass total judgment. Worthington was Sommers' first choice to play Duke, but he decided to do Terminator instead. I think that's what AnorexicBatman is getting at.
Personally, I would've liked Cole Hauser as Duke. :yay:

Sorta. The line isnt hilarious....maybe a eye roller at best...but the "shoes" line is just awful.
