The game is awesome but the music flat out sucks now. =( Granted I've only done the first campaign.
I also miss the old witch cry.
I quite like the twangy menu theme.

What the hell is up with the zombies in this game B-Lining it to you only to dart left or right to your side and end up behind you?

I believe there new AI is to try and avoid your bullets so if they are B lining it to you and your shooting straight at them they shift left and right. Just use the Axe or Samurai sword that always gets the job done :)

So...how's the difficulty of the game?
I've read, and heard, from a review about the game being incredibly frustrating now. Like, unfair on every difficulty. Which is sad, if true, because I thought L4D was as accessible an FPS as any.

Only played it once and dont even remember much from it. BTW it was on a PC, not that it matters

It might. I think the graphics are better on the PC.
I just hear that the game experience has changed. Tossing three tanks at me one after another...sounds a little out of the realm of fun for me.
But, it's what I've heard. I don't know for certain since I haven't played it.
Why Are You Crouching Spock?

I've never seen three tanks at once.
From the previous one I would typically play on "advanced" and very rarely would a party die out.
On "normal" it's fairly common for a party to die.
ChrisBaleBatman

I've heard that. I've heard there's more cheap shots, too. Where you might be down and get revived and then a Boomer pukes on you or something.
I do remember Valve saying that they were going to tweak the AI director for L4D2, which was odd to me...because I thought the AI director was perfect for the first.

Yes someone if a player runs off to a safe house a special will spawn inside it.
It's disappointing they didn't capitalize on procedural generated weather, hard Rain is a very cool level, the sudden change in weather makes it feel more organic than "a level".

Specials spawn inside a safehouse?!
That's...wow. That's gotta be a glitch or something. Has to be.

The only time there were three tanks in the old game is if you played certain campaign maps of custom variety on pc.
Some maps are nuttier then others . On the customs any way.
yes the difficulty has changed in l4d2 especially on realism mode you have to be with people your really in good team working relationship game wise. other wise you won't get past the the higher difficulty settings.
Oh the zombies hitting ya take alot of health in both expert and realisum mode.
It's not funny. make sure your not playing with guys that like to go rambo on you( run off far ahead of every one) or you'll never get past it.
oh BTW no it's not a glitch about the specials, they did that in the pc version of left 4 dead I. They were copying players that did this in versus mode. To spawn in the safe house. With each up date they did on the pc version that is steam most of the old specials in the first game got smarter based on what players did tactically on the PC version. you even notice it seem that the specials are coordinating now. and it'll seem like a planned out ambush.
Making it more challenging for players that still have the old game and actually got the custom maps for free on steam for the pc .
so them spawning in the safe house is old news.

This game is great!
The amount of mods and maps out for it already is astounding!
ChrisBaleBatman
12-01-2009, 08:46 AM
So, how do you win if the specials wait for you in a safe house?
It sounds like L4D2 is more of a hardcore gamers' game now than the first. Is that a fair assessment?
zenith16
12-01-2009, 04:32 PM
It is a fair assessment. the best way to beat it is for the people your playing to be good and buy good is to mean you don't leave each each others side not for Rambo reason's or any other reason you stay close to each or die. so stay as close to each other as possible. especially on expert and realism mode. push the special infected back if their close to the person that they grab. and shoot. if their far like the smoker make sure you kill him. the point of this game is to force you to play as a team that's the point. so no straying especially now. oh and the chain saw works well on the witch's and tanks.
the witch's only rome in daylight, their avoidable so avoid them. any one that has trigger happy issues that likes to shoot the witch will get you killed. so tell them to cut that habbit out. unless you have the chain saw on you and can get out of that situation fast.
no straying and no running off ahead of everyone if your want your group to live but you'll get ahead if just one of you gets to the safe house. it depends on how you want to do this buy you get a bonus if your team makes it to the safe houses with health packs.
and if your team is really good the AI director will make it more difficult for ya. ya they made the AI D really pricky this time around.

Finally bought this sucka. I'm gonna try it out soon, but I am still bereft of a mic for my PC, so I'm sure I'll get booted from many a server. Hopefully I can just find a good public server with crappy players who are more interested in doing their own thing and won't care I don't have a mic. :hehe:

My buddy let me borrow this Sunday and I figured I'd do a little online play here at the house but the servers are so slow I can't get into any games. :( So I think I'll just play through Dark Carnival and go to town on some zombies with the gnome instead. :awesome:

BTW the M60 isn't the only new gun coming to this game. I and a buddy that played with two girls on steam got two new sniper weapons which I think were of German making and one new machine gun with a scope on it. that later gun became my new fave along with that buddy of mine. We were playing dark carnival at the time.
But I can't wait for the m60. and this new dlc will be a lead up to the new cross play later between l4d and l4d2 in spring. I get to play luis again with new weapons. damn can't wait. OK enjoy the video.

http://www.gametrailers.com/episode/gametrailers-tv/101&ch=4&sd=0?ep=101&ch=4&sd=0
On GameTrailers TV last night, Valve announced details on the third DLC for Left 4 Dead. Surprise, you'll also be able to play it with Left 4 Dead 2.
"The Sacrifice" ties in with the Left 4 Dead 2 DLC "The Passing." It chronicles the events leading up to that content from the perspective of the L4D1 cast. At the end, you get to decide which of the quartet must die to save the others.
The storyline will be set up by a 150+ page digital comic. It will be released over time in four parts, starting in September. In addition to chronicling the events of the DLC, the comic provides a look at the backstory of each of the L4D1 survivors.
"Sacrifice" will be released in October. As mentioned earlier, it will be playable with both L4D1 and L4D2. Owners of L4D2 will also get the "No Mercy" campaign from the first game.
The DLC will be free for PC and Mac owners. Xbox 360 owners will have to shell out some dough, though.
I'm so freaking excited to play No Mercy with L4D2 infected. I'm totally chargin' somebody off a rooftop. I also can't wait for the Spitter to ruin my camping strategies in the last two levels. :awesome:

Cold Stream (http://www.l4d.com/blog/post.php?id=5019)
February 16, 2011 - L4D Team
Sorry for the recent lack of updates, we have been working on a surprise and here it is.
Matthew Lourdelet (2 Evil Eyes) has been working on a new community campaign – Cold Stream. We loved 2 Evil Eyes and Cold Stream looks even more promising with innovative game play arenas and effects. Matthew has really shown that there are still plenty of new ideas in L4D2 modding.
He recently shared it with us and we love it so far but it isn’t done. We were tempted to have him quietly finish it with our help and release it as part of an upcoming DLC.
Tempted… but we decided against that. Instead, we think we have a better idea. We want you the community to be part of the process of taking his unfinished campaign and releasing it as DLC on the Xbox 360, PC and Mac.
Since Matthew already has a start on the campaign, we need to back up a little in the process before we go forward.
The very first step in creating a new DLC is deciding on the larger goals and constraints for the DLC. The Sacrifice and the Passing were story heavy, so we want to see what the other end of the spectrum looks like. For this DLC we start with wanting to experiment by releasing a map pack that wasn’t about story. It would just be new campaigns for Left 4 Dead 2.
That makes the first constraint no new audio or story.
The easiest starting point for new campaigns is the three remaining Left 4 Dead 1 campaigns, so the DLC will include those. We also want something brand new and Cold Stream is the perfect fit.
That’s the start of the DLC. We have the basic information but we don't even have a name or release date yet.
We will hold off on the name for now.
That leaves the release date. The answer to when the DLC will be released is simple for now, sometime after Portal 2. Why don’t we set some date in stone right now? Because the real answer to when we are going to release something is always – when it’s ready.
Quality is a function of time and resources. So we can throw more people at the problem and/or take longer. We like to not constrain ourselves by either, so at this point we are willing to say - “Let’s not set a date yet, we’ll know better later.” Of course, that is also why the concept of Valve Time exists but later you will see why “Valve Time” is a good thing, not a bad thing.
For now, that’s it.
In the next few weeks we will add Cold Stream to the UI (user interface) and we will all begin testing it. As we receive feedback and test data we will also share some data we collect on player experience and show how we put that data to use. We will include you with regular posts, polls, and updates.
We have created a special forum just for feedback on the campaign and this project (Cold Stream Forum (http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=1088)). While the beta will only be available for PC and Mac users, we appreciate feedback and ideas from the entire community. This is an experiment for us, so please let us know what you think and what you would like to see in the DLC – just remember the constraints.

i played the first game not too long ago at a friend's house and we had a blast playing it in co-op
my only complaint was that it was too short i think. is the second game longer or just as long as the first?

I tried "2 Evil Eyes" earlier today and I didn't think it was that that great.
Map's big without much in the sense of direction. It also lacked alot of details compared to the official maps. "One 4 Nine" was a much better set of maps, hopefully that guy gets the chance to publish them. Presumably they will make money out of it like Team Fortress 2 as it's charged on the xbox360, maybe add an option on the pc to donate money to the map makers. Which is a good idea to keep a game alive imo when Valve's resources are elsewhere for newer titles. I think they should do the same with Portal 2's Co-OP one it gets long in the tooth.
