Don't know if this has already been posted, but this is an actual set pic from Thor. if only we could see what the camera is facing
reminds me of the four Avatar set pictures of James Cameron behind the camera before even knew what he was looking at..lol.. I hate when the studios don't reveal a bit more...I mean they've shot all their promotional shots before they started filming...the end of the month is too long of a wait

Wouldn't surprise me. I imagine by the time Thor releases in 2011, pretty much every major blockbuster will have a 3D version available. We're already seeing it with stuff like Clash of the Titans now. Before this year, it was usually only animated films that had 3D versions.

YAY!
And has anyone else noticed that the day the set pics will be released is almost EXACTLY one year before the release? It comes out in the 4th of 2011 in May, and set pics are released on the 5th of May in 2010.
Not to mention that IM2 comes out two days after the set pic release.

well i noticed the camera set up, since i been on a few film shoots, and seen a few different camera types and set ups. Plus i went to school for tv/film production. And camera work is the area i want to get into. So i like seeing how things are set up and what type of cameras they are using on films/tv shows.

Hopefully it's good 3D and not Clash of the Titans 3D. But the fact that they're already planning the movie to be 3D in the shooting stage (and not trying to add it post-production) make me believe it'll be good 3D.

The 3-D wasn't what made that movie bad. Take it from me, I saw it in 2-D(I refuse to watch ANY movie in 3-D, it's useless and yes this goes for Avatar as well) and even though that was the way it was originally intendedto be seen, it still sucked.
TheCorpulent1
04-10-2010, 01:49 PM
I don't really notice 3D anymore, to be honest. I watched How to Train your Dragon in 3D but really didn't feel anymore "sucked into the film" or whatever than I do for the 2D movies I've watched. And that was actually just a good movie, 2D or 3D.
Ace of Knaves
04-10-2010, 01:51 PM
Well it's come to light that pretty much all of the character development scenes and God scenes were cut from the film. Also Perseus' motivation was changed.
It appears Fox ain't the only ones who screw around with films.
But why do you think 3D is useless? If it's done well like in Avatar it can add loads to the film going experience.

Exactly Corp, so why pay more?
Ace, I didn't get anything special from Avatarother than the best CGI realistic characters yet. 3-D had nothing to do with that. Of course overall I just didn't like that film anyway. That was the first time since Jaws 3-D in the 1980's made me swear off 3-D for good that I plunked down the extra $ for the 3-D experience and for my $ it wasn't worth the extra bit of dough. I feel the exact same way about IMAX, Blue-Ray/High-Def, ect. I don't notice any difference or at least I don't notice enough difference to make it worth paying more. Regular old low-def, non-Imax, 2-D is just fine by me still.

Well, personally, if it's in 3D, I'll usually watch it in 3D just because it's there. It's like $3 more, so it's not a big deal. I don't watch that many movies in theaters anyway.

I believe they've made them smaller but still extremely heavy equipment ...look on the Thor set pic the dolly is super enforced those camers are very heavy...
it's just as valid to say they're doing it in the IMAX format, 3D or not... fully shot IMAX 3D Thor film would be awesome...

I saw Avatar in IMAX 3D with my family and just regular 3D with a friend and the regular 3D was definitely better. IMAX seems cool going there but it just seems to blow up the image to the point of mild blurriness, regardless of whether the movie was shot in IMAX or not. In regular 3D everything was crisper and the 3D itself looked better, but that might've been because my expectations were lowered after being disappointed by it initially after its hype of "revolutionizing 3D" when it turned out to be the same old ****.
I do enjoy the 3D now, but I don't know why some internet film nerds have to get all pissy about it like there isn't an option.

So it's either IMAX or 3D. Or IMAX 3D.
It's awesome that we're getting this news, (or speculating it), but it kinda sucks that this is the only sure thing we have so far. The costume description is hard to judge without an actual image. Remember New Goblin?
Although I still think it'll be awesome.

I know how you feel..my local theater which has decent priced 2D tickets at $9.99...they recently upped the 3D showings so now if the film is in 3D they don't offer 2D showings...it's beyond annoying...I had to drive 45mins out of my way to find a theater playing the 2D Clash of The Titans...I just think unless the project needs to be in 3D theres no point to using the format...I still think it works best with kids/horror flicks...I'm not sure how things popping out of the screen helps a superhero film when you're trying to get serious/realistic world view of the material....it's really for fantasy films only....

3-D is rampant because it makes the studios more money, not because it makes films better. I hope Thor is offered in standard 2-D. 3-D is such a lame gimmick.

I can stomach it better than 3-D. The forest fight scene in TF2 was way better in IMAX than on the small screen. There's something about seeing a life-size Optimus kick Starscream in the face. That being said, I don't think it would work for a film like Captain America or Iron Man.
Thor, on the other hand, could make good use of it. Ymir in IMAX? YES, PLEASE.

I read the early script and I liked it a lot but i hope some things got changed like
Thor barely fighting anyone in the final battle, he just shows up and Mijorlnil
just flies around and destroys everyone's weapon and he then just throws it to a couple of gianst and that;s it. I hope he actually transforms into the thunder god and then fights the leader of the fairies, and a real fight not just thor killing him in one stroke. I also hope he fights the destroyer once he gets the hammer back.[/SPOILER]

Wait if the price was what you're concerned with, why would you waste the gas driving 45min away to watch the movie in 2D? Wouldn't the gas price just cancel it out, if not cost more?

personally for me i have no issues with 3d films. Now yes it counts if it was shot in 3d verse done in post. Its nicer when its shot in 3d and thats the plan and all that. But if its done as an after thought that isnt the way to go. But hopefully the tech for both will get better and better over the next few yrs. Since 3d does seem to be the get go for now. As for ticket prices sure it sucks with higher prices. i mentioned this before i am glad i live in a modest size city so prices are fair amound. Afternoon showing of 2d films are like 5-7 dollars, and evening 2d prices are like 9 dollars, and then 3d feature films are like 12.75. so in all not that bad of price.

the price is the isn't factor but it doesn't help..just pointed out how much regular tickets are in my area...I mean the other theater I went to cost $12 still in 2D....the price isn't too much my problem..it's that I as the consumer don't always have the opition in my local theater to choose 2D...I love my local theater and they're just being greedy they have 6-7 daily showings for each 3D feature...there are three 3D films playing right now you'd think they would have at lest one 2D showing of the features...
sometimes for people they just can't watch 3D...I get headaches like I did with avatar...why force this new format on people who can't enjoy it and make them to move on to another theater?
by the way have they even tested the long term of effects of this on our eyes? because this is more hardcore than the regular red and blue glasses...I'm just worried children who this is being marketed to are going to get eye problems in the long run...

Some good quotes from the articles:
We suppose it's possible that Branagh's using a different set-up to shoot 3D, but we'd be very, very surprised; just because he's shooting two cameras side-by-side, it doesn't mean it's for a 3D effect, and the cameras are too far apart for that to be the case.
From the Hopkins interview...
Recently, you disputed a report about trouble on the Thor set. There were allegations made that you and the lead actor Chris Hemsworth weren’t getting along. Would you like to clear that up?
I would love to clear it up, and the studio’s clearing it up. The rumors are scurrilous and total rubbish; I’ve been having a great time on [Thor], and they’re just all wonderful actors. I do want to talk about this, because I’ve talked to my lawyer about it and I think the studio is doing some investigation into it, but that’s what newspapers do. It’s the business of journalism to lie — sometimes, not always. They distort and make mischief. I’ve been around the block many times, so I get used to it.
From the Sante Fe New Mexican...
Speaking of Thor (AAA, anyone?), the big-budget nature of the film is obvious by the number of yellow signs directing crews all over town. From a town built near Galisteo, to a site behind the Franklin Miles Park, shooting has been fast and furious for the Kenneth Branagh-directed blockbuster. One site that might be familiar to locals is a bar interior shot recently at the favorite Santa Fe nightspot, Cheeks — a scene that took 13.5 hours to capture to Branagh's satisfaction. According to an insider, "despite the fact that they had to do a million takes, everyone seemed pretty non-irritable. Very focused, perfectionistic, stressed but not flipping out."
From the Elba interview...
IESB: Will the costumes have a traditional look?
Idris: I can’t say too much about it. It’s traditional, in the sense of what the comic book has. They're being very cognizant about that and trying to make that authentic. At the same time, it’s a movie, so you can embellish it a little bit more.

Hopefully if they do include the Helicarrier in the Avengers' movie, it'll actually look more like the Helicarrier and less like a battleship mounted on a pod with four turbines. Of course, they could always leave it out and have SHIELD be based out of the Triskelion like in The Ultimates. Which would suck.

I wouldn't be surprised with Fury acknowledging a "war on Asgard", only to add fuel to what will undoubtedly make Loki a future villain for the Avengers(as I see Fury helping out Thor, and then the other way around when Loki returns for the Avengers film)
And I want freaking Hawkeye in the Thor film as well. I was hoping he'd be in Iron Man 2, but I was wrong :(
And for Captain America, S.H.I.E.L.D. could still be in its stages of defrosting good ol' Steve and we could see Chris Evans inside a block of ice with his torn up suit.
Perhaps Fury hands Cap's shield over to Stark and asks him to make a "better one" with the new metal he created.

I think having Helicarrier get blown out of the sky would be something extremely amazing visual-wise, and makes the movie much bigger on an epic proportion. Also, if the villains can destroy the Helicarrier, it may actually merit the collective firepower of Iron Man, Thor, and Capt. America.

I don't personally think the Helicarrier is necessary for the Avengers at all. But since we're probably never gonna get a proper SHIELD movie and the movies seem to be going the Ultimates route and making the Avengers a field-team for SHIELD, I'd much rather see the Helicarrier over the Triskelion. Maybe even more than Avengers Mansion since, as fond as my memories for it in the comics are, it's still just a big house, as opposed to a flying battleship.
Son of Coul

'zackly. Don't really care about Avengers Mansion. Kind of pointless to have a big mansion for less than ten team members sitting and talking. I'd like BOTh the Helicarrier and the Triskelion the way they did it in that UA cartoon. The carrier can get large amounts of Shield troops/agents anywhere in the world w/n a few hours but their home base is just north of Manhattan at the Triskelion. Avenger's mansion(Tony's New York home) can appear in the 2nd Avengers film when they go solo apart from Shield.

What would sell that scene is Tony's reaction. IMO, he shouldn't say something cliche'd like "Aww, that's cool!" or anything like that but simply start chuckling to himself in a low tone while giving Fury a "No, you guys didn't!" look.
Son of Coul

Yeah I think it'd be real good to have the Avengers peel off from SHIELD by the end, if not at some point in the middle, to establish them as an independent team rather than a bunch of government agents. Maybe have a moment like the end of the first comic where they're like "hey we really aren't so bad together!" "we should do this more often", etc. (obviously not the exact dialogue, just the feeling of the scene and characters).

An equivalent would be Hemsworth shirtless looking a little roughed up and holding the hammer. We don't get the costume just like we didn't get the armor in that pic.

I was hoping that one of these magazines would have a Marvel movie issue tie in with Iron Man 2. No luck heh? Looks like it's comic con then.

I have a feeling our first pic might be Thor after just being cast down to Earth. Just a pic of Hemsworth, probably naked or close to it, struggling to get up in the middle of a smoldering field or something like that. It's an authentic scene from the movie without giving away any big details like the costume or the hammer.

We all would, but I think Marvel's marketers will try to stretch out the big reveals. A scene from the movie showing nothing important first, then maybe a shot of the hammer, then a teaser, then a shot of Thor in full costume, etc. Remember, we may have been following the film for months already, but there's still a whole year before the film is released, over which Marvel has to slowly build anticipation for the normal folks.
Aesop Rocks

The biggest reveal is obviously fully suited Thor. I don't think we'll see that, or the hammer until the movie or damn near close it it's release.
I really hope we get spoiled though. :o

July. I imagine we'll see something for Thor then as well. Iron Man 2 will have already been in theaters for 2 months, Kick-Ass for 3, and Thor is the next big Marvel movie.

Aesop, how do you know this??
Listen to me. You won't want to believe what I have to say, but I assure you, it's true.
Aesop is actually Tom Cruise.
He knows virtually everything that happens in Hollywood, and by extension...the world. He's an expert in hand-to-hand combat, firearms, and spycraft. He leads a regime of so called "artists" who control 97% of the worlds financial resources. He holds billions of lives in the palm of his hand, and he laughs about this very fact every morning over breakfast, which consists of two slices of blackened toast, one over-easy egg and a small glass of oj. And he's short. Really, really short.
Right now, he's on the phone, ordering a black-ops death squad to find me and silence me. And they will succeed, because he only hires the best. I can hear them outside my door as I write this. I recognize the sound of their gun-rattle. Also, they're really fast, because he was just on the phone with them and yet here they are at my door right now!
I'm giving this info to you, AirUpThere, because you are the worlds last, best hope against the evil that is Tom "Aesop" Cruise. Good luck. You'll need it. I only wish I could have lived long enough to meet you so that I could tell you about your half-sister. Her name is...

Dont some of you guys remember that Iron Man 2 reshoots were happening the same week Thor started shooting? I doubt it just occured to Marvel that it would be cool to have Thor be in after credits the last couple of weeks. That would be poor planning.

We received this via email with the following message in regards to the upcoming ‘Thor’ movie -
“This Joe Quesada drawing of Thor is based on a Hasbro toy-line that will be released in conjunction with the movie”
http://i68.photobucket.com/albums/i36/luwho12345/ThorMOVIE.jpg?t=1271574100 (http://i68.photobucket.com/albums/i36/luwho12345/ThorMOVIE.jpg?t=1271574100)
If this art is based on a Hasbro toy line that will be released at the same time as the ‘Thor’ movie, could this also be how they intend ‘Thor’ to look like?
In our opinion this looks great! What do you think?

i think that'll just be one of the "comic series" figures, as with the last handful of movies they've done a "movie series" and a "comic series" in each set. it's too dead on ages of thunder to be the movies suit, plus non of the confirmed chainmail

Pretty good costume if that is indeed it. I would've probably made the gloves brown to match the boots and add a little more color, but I'd be happy with it.

Agreed, plus it lacks Hemsworth's beard. But I figured it was at least worth posting

Yeah, that Quesada drawing is pretty much a dead-ringer for the Ages of Thunder Thor. There are some minor differences, but it's nearly exact. Probably not the movie costume.
(Though I wouldn't complain if it was).

I hope that's not the design of the suit. It looks awful. It could be that he uses that costume in Asgard before the hammer is made, and then by the final act on earth when he transforms again he has the more armored copiel inspired look. If not then I'am losing interest in this movie.
But I hightly doubt that's the suit he wears in the film.
Spider-Vader
04-18-2010, 10:23 PM
If that's the real costume, then I'll be fine. I think it's based of the Age of Thunder costume or whatever it's called. Besides, modern Thor that'd be my choice for the movie's costume.
marvel_freshman
04-18-2010, 11:10 PM
I'd be very happy with that costume, cause it actually looks okay next to Iron Man. I was always worred the chainmail and stuff would make Thor look like an old English Norseman. But that design mimics the Ultimate suit and still looks like an original Thor.

i said this before with the after credits scene i doubt we will actually see thor and/or cap in ironman 2. Sure thor is likely since ironman 2 was doing reshoots in jan/feb at marvel studios space when thor was just starting up and all that. So chris hemsworth could have easily filmed a scene or something. But i think it will just be mentions by fury/shield about thor and that maybe cap's body has been found to tie into captain america next yr and all that. As for evans we got him offcially signed after i believe ironman 2 was completed and in the can so i doubt evans was able to do anything for ironman 2.

Not a fan of Quesada's art, but I like that costume, I think it'll look quite similar if that's the picture for the box.

Didn't Hemsworth say that the costume had chainmail? I'm voting for the comic series theory.

I'm fine with that costume. I'd just replace the gloves with forearm greaves. I mean, why does a guy who's nearly invulnerable need gloves? Is he worried about Mjolnir giving him blisters?

Guys, I was watching the Hulk vs Thor animated movie this weekend, and it occured to me, how could Marvel get their own character wrong?
Here's my thing, no matter what the gamma rays did to Bruce Banner, he's still only a man.
I understand the madder he gets the stronger he gets, but a man can only get so mad? Underneath the gamma rays affects is still just a man.
Now how on earth or off earth, can a man beat a God?
No way could the Hulk beat Thor, if he's the God of Thunder, he could bring down all the lightning in the entire universe and blow the Hulk out of existence! Ok, maybe Thor wouldn't go that far, but my point is he could and there's no way the Hulk could beat him as easily as he did in the animated movie.
Notice in the Planet Hulk movie that the girl on that planet gave Hulk a better fight than The Mighty Thor did when he faught the Hulk?
What's up with that Marvel?
kedrell
04-19-2010, 10:07 AM
Hulk in Planet Hulk has been severly de-powered due to going through the wormhole(same thing happened to the Silver Surfer when he went through in the comics, or Beta Ray Bill in the cartoon).
Vartha
04-19-2010, 10:09 AM
MY understanding Kirbyfan is we're still coming out of a HULK movie blitz so to speak.
We will being seeing alot more reversed in THOR's favor in the next couple years.
Ace of Knaves
04-19-2010, 10:29 AM
Yea that's the thing with comics. A lot of the time the results of fights are determined on popularity.
I think it's safe to say Thor has had a boost in popularity, and it will continue to grow. Therefore, hopefully soon, he gets to show just how he would deal with Hulk.
