Thor looks magnificent. :D
What's more is this costume is going to look all kinds of badass next to IM.

It's just a model of Coipel's Thor. And the film Thor has obviously taken inspiration from that design.
That model isn't anything to do with the film.
Yea I'm not saying it is exactly the same design, but you can't deny that most of this design was used for this particular costume
Wow, it really looks fantastic. It looks a bit rubbery, but I'm sure it'll look fine on film.

AMEN BROTHER
the Rest of the cast's costumes along with the destroyer are gonna make this movie crazy!!!!! Marvel is really flexing their muscles with these new movies, I'm not a big Chris Evans fan but I think they will go the ultimate route with Captain America, and Hugo Weaving as Red Skull is genious.......Marvel has brought joy to comic fans!!!!!!
It looks like the cape is a heavy cloth rather than leathery, which I like.

Looks awesome. A little rubbery-- more so than I was expecting-- but still pretty sight for the eyes. Great thing to wake up to.

Looks cool! Not a fan of the form fitting armor as its not natural looking and more rubbery. Works on paper but alas it can be "asgardian metal". None the less nice to see Thor in flesh and bone.

Posted this in the other threads to as it seemed right.
Brightened the chest area, seems kinda like armour. I like it though, he looks seriously tough. I assume they'll make the armour look more metallic.

Yeah, I can see where some are coming from on the rubbery bit. but then to someone as powerful as Thor, metal would be like rubber. Depends on other things with how they sell it in action. Like the sounds it makes, seeing something scrape against it and having some small sparks fly, etc. That all can help sell it as well. I'm still really digging the look though I really wasn't worried about them getting it wrong. They've been pretty spot on with adapting the look of their characters. This gets a  from me.

the design is awesome! the only problem like mentioned before, it looks a little to much like rubber. but maybe that chances when seeing it in motion...

Well this is pretty clearly in Asgard. There's al sorts of room for possibilities of that sort to change once he comes to Earth. I have no inside info, if that's what you're asking. I just realize that there is easily the possibility for his sleeveless look to make an appearance.

have they ever gone into detail about why or how Thor adopted the sleeves in the comics?
I was just wondering if we could get an explanation of how its made from the same Uru metal that Mjolnir's made from. even though to me the chain mail doesn't really look all that much like stone, like Uru is supposed to.

Nah, he just reappeared wearing that costume in Thor vol. 3. It's definitely not made of uru because he's gotten it torn up pretty good on numerous occasions since he started wearing it.

I'm really dissapointed that they went with the current costume. I don't like those scale mail sleeves and the plastic looking circle plates. They should have at least make them a bit scrached or something, maybe then they wouldn't look so plasticky. And I hate the carvings in the plates.

There always will be at least some slight nitpick - I prefer without beard/chainmail, why didn“t they show the helmet, etc.-, but it“s overall too true to the comics to be an excuse for any significant outrage.
I don“t think there was much criticism towards the Iron Man armor as well.

I think the arms look fine. We all talked about chainmail and stuff, but the truth is that the comic version never, ever looked like chainmail. We just couldn't figure out how they would convey that look without some kind of mail. But it turns out the costumers devised a way to match the comic version almost exactly, and I think it looks fine. They'll probably apply some lighting effects to make it look more metallic in post, too.

I'd still like him to wear different outfits on the movie!
This one is my favourite and would be more appropriate for a Viking world. (Would probably be the one used if they went with that first script draft.)
http://www.comicsbulletin.com/news/images/0803/ThorAgesOfThunderCover.jpg
I think they could start him as this more modest outfit at the movie start and then move him to the Coippel one when he gets his ornate cerimonial costume (assuming they still have a similar scene like that on the movie).

I'm wondering if the desire to give him sleeves was to keep him more in-line with the other heroes like Cap and Iron Man .... because those guys wear full suits.
I have a preference for the sleeveless drawings, but I fully approve of what they did for the film.

No it is was because Coipel's design is bad ass and well liked. Personally it's my favourite Thor design.
And that Ages of Thunder design up there was set centuries ago, in past Ragnarock cycles. So it makes sense that it was design to look more old worldly.

I'm not denying that aspect of it .... I'm just saying it keeps him more uniformally in-line with the other heroes, perhaps easing the believability on screen when paired up with them. I mean it would be hard to look somewhat "tech" and sleeveless at the same time.

I'm inclined to believe it was just because that's what Thor's wearing in the comics right now, myself. Marvel Studios seems keen on taking the comic versions of the characters and putting them on the screen as unchanged as possible. With Iron Man, they got Adi Granov, the same guy who was doing Iron Man's comics at the time, to design the movie costume. With Thor, it looks like they've had their costumers follow the guidelines of Coipel's comic design pretty closely.
But I agree, I personally prefer a sleeveless Thor. Why cover up the gun show, right? ;)

He wont be sleveless because while wearing the thick chest armor, if he went sleveless, it would make his arms look alot smaller.

I'm happy with Evans. I'll always wonder what Alex Skarsgaard would've been like as Thor, but Hemsworth/Evans/Downey Jr. look good as the big three Avengers in my head. I've always thought of Thor as more ruggedly handsome. My only real problem with how John Romita, Jr. draws Thor, in fact, is that he makes Thor look a bit too pretty. Ron Frenz and John Buscema gave Thor my personal favorite faces. Classically handsome but very manly.

That guy from AICN who has seen the costumes who posted the (accurate) description a few weeks ago posted more...
His helmet does have wings
It looks literally EXACTLY like the helmet in the comicsAnd for those saying he doesn't look big enough
This is a close up pic, but trust me, Hemsworth is a big dude and he looks big in the costume. The dichotomy between him as Thor and the sufficiently reedy Hiddleston as Loki is spot on.And one more thing, as someone who's seen the costumes
I cannot ****ing believe anyone is *****ing about it because the arms arent ACTUAL chain mail. The whole costume is pretty much aesthetically perfect, as are the rest of the costumes in the film to their comic counterparts (or they are updated well within the realm of reason), and we ***** because the TEXTURES arent exact. I am one picky fella when it comes to my comic book films and I always demand a certain level of fidelity, but this is just an absurd level of throwing the baby out with the bathwater. I can tell you right now, if the lack of ACTUAL metal on an already incredibly physically limiting costume is going to be a deal breaker for you then the rest of the costumes arent going to convince you either, because there isnt any real metal on those either. The motif of the suits isn't going for any kind of ACTUAL viking realism but is very skewed into the realm of the comic book world it represents, almost sort of futuristic with an old world norse flair. They are fairly over the top compared to say, the "realism" of the X-Men wearing leather jumpsuits. If that's your fancy than all I have to say is, **** you. Those costumes have dated horribly, and I would give anything for something closer to the old school comic costumes, which Thor does very well. Then again, I guess I'm just a comic book fan like that. My suggestion, get over it, they are colorful and over the top and as accurate a representation of the source material as we were ever going to get.Ill be interested in seeing reactions to Loki now
Because if this is controversial I think that will be much more so. I thought his costume looked ****ing awesome, complete with big ass horns and all. But it def doesn't look metal, and it's shiny chrome gold, not the more muted gold that one might expect. And also because hte horns are so big the back of the helmet almost looks a little bike helmetish, it sticks out a bit to balance out the weight. I would like to think people would be reasonable enough to understand the logistics of that, you know, so the acttor can move without looking like an *******. Hiddleston looks rad though, with pale white skin and straight black hair. the warriors three
Keep in mind this is off the top of my head and I'm recalling from months back, and the costumes are fairly complex and detailed. I'll start off by saying their costumes are a little less traditional to their individual backgrounds than the comic. Where as Fandral was dressed straight up Errol FLynn, Hogun straight up Mongol, and Volstagg was....I dont really know what Volstagg was supposed to be. But their costumes are less traditional and more in the rubber future armor motif of the rest of the Asgardian crew. Their color schemes are dark blue for Hogun, whose armor has an almost samurai hint to it but there are no hanging cloths or leather like the comic. I didn't see a mongul helmet either as he had pulled back kind of samurai looking hair, nor does he have facial hair. A dark greenish blue (if I recall correctly, but it's some kind of blue hue) for Fandral, who also has a cape and long, not short, sleeves. His hair is blonde like the comic and he also has the classic swashbuckler facial hair. Volstagg is a taller Ray Stevenson complete with fake fat suit and long ginger hair and beard, he looks pretty awesome. His suit is a maroonish red and it looks a little more like armor than the other two. Sif has a bright red corset like top and long black hair. The costume is a bit less skimpy than I think it is usually in the comics, she has bare arms but her midriff is not exposed nor is any part of her leg.

So to summarize from his paragraphs of descriptions:
Thor - obviously we've all seen it, except for the helmet, which apparently looks exactly like the comic helmet
Loki - green and shiny chrome gold; helmet with horns- it sticks out a bit in the back to balance it so Hiddleston can practically wear it; straight black hair
Sif - bright red corset for a top; bare arms; entirely covered midriff and legs
Fandral - dark greenish-blue color scheme; cape and long sleeves; blonde hair and swashbuckler facial hair
Hogun - samurai-inspired with a dark blue color scheme; no helmet or hanging cloths/leather; no facial hair, samurai-looking hair
Volstagg - maroonish-red color scheme; fake fat suit and long ginger hair/beard; "looks a little more like armor than the other two"

Needless to say, herein there be possible spoilers!
Apparently someone got their hands on a draft of Thor and has revealed the potential opening. Of course scripts and drafts are changed all the time, so there is a chance this will not be the actual scene, but if you are still interested in reading it click on the button below.
Thanks to Iceman815 for the heads up!
Thor: Opening Scene
The film opens up in the best possible way; the introduction of the Nine Realms by a 'booming voice' against a black screen. Embossed words describing each of the worlds begin to appear as the camera opens on the first.
The three Norse spirits Veršandi (present), Uršr (fate) and Skuld (future) narrate the creation of the realms and how the different manner of creatures in them came to be. First, the camera flies over Muspelheim followed by Hel and Niffleheim. The first character introduced Ymir, the first of the Frost Giants and his family in the realm of Jotunheim. You then pass over the realm of the dwarves, Svartalfheim, and the elves, Nidavellir. The camera flows through Midgard (Earth) and we see man exulting Odin in his temple. Finally, the camera pans through Bifrost, the Rainbow Bridge, to the the Hall of Asgard, which is filled with the Aesir. You see a glimpse of the Einherjar guard and winged Valkyries overhead, in what could only be Valhalla. Odin and Gaea are introduced while they are
. . . umm, conceiving a child. That child turns out to be Thor. Movie title appears.
The scene darkens and ends, when it opens again we are in 'present day' (centuries after the last scene). We find ourselves on the Asgardian border, where Thor (now an adult), his adoptive brother Loki, Fandral, Hogun, Volstagg and Balder (who is actually an older character, as apposed to the comics) are riding thunderously on their horses. They have been tasked on a mission to find Ivaldi, the Dwarf king of Svartalfheim. As they ride to the passageway between realms, we see a giant forge and three blacksmiths at work. They are creating the mighty Mjolnir, to present to Thor upon his arrival...

already posted?
In addition to the previously reported scene filmed at local nightspot, Cheeks, look for a scene at a beauty shop, complete with villains and explosions. Much of the shooting, however, is taking place near Galisteo.

A nightspot? Techno-viking reference? :awesome:
Not sure what to expect really!

I Google Earth'd "Cheeks", place is small as ****.
Oh and, I kind of want Thor to have that new found "humanity" to stop him from killing Loki in the final battle. I picture Loki saying "finish it, I deserve this...". And Thor being how he's been in practically every time he's ever fought Loki says "Nope, no way bro".

No one got banned. He posted a spoiler image from IM2, but removed it after enough people told him.
Are all of you referring to me? I did in fact post a picture the day the 1st video of the end credits was released. But I took it off as soon as someone said I could be banned.

Spideyfan there have been MANY fans that have posted the images, EVEN some long time posters had to be told the images (Mjolnir and Destroyer) were bootleg and not to post.
Not to worry.

this pic makes me even more mad about x-men costumes. marvel studios would have made some great costumes for the x-men, too bad. hope fox studios is watching.

Fox should just give all the rights they have back to Marvel. The only Fox superhero film I've actually really liked is Fantastic Four (the first one).

We'll have to wait and see misjuevos.
Ultimates seemed to have been to ME modeled after the X-Men Movie costumes. They had the same feel. I didn't mind too much the look for the X-men in the movie, but leave it to the X-men not all the rest of the COMIC book characters.

Well, to be fair, Granov's Extremis design and Coipel's updated Thor costume, look a lot more practical and as such are much easier to translate to the big screen, without looking outragous.
With the X-Men, you've got a group of individuals who all wear different costumes and some of them would just look ridiculous in live action.

no doubt Nathan, I'm just saying keep one look to one group of heroes.
I'm sure Marvel would do something different with X-Men in a movie.
The Ultimates seems to copy those movies, almost because of the popular look of a sucessful hero film to sell a different comic of Avengers.
I'm SURE Marvel even back then was looking to sell Avengers as a film and trying different approaches. We long time Thor fans just didn't agree with that approach.

I'm pretty sure I was the first one to do so but thanks for telling lol.
I loved the X-Men movies especially the first 2. The Fantastic Four HAS to be back to Marvel but neither will for years and years.
I could imagine a FF movie with Marvel Studios to be amazing! And Galactus would be brought to justice.
I want to see Loki so bad it's not funny anymore. Comic Con is the best bet.:awesome:

I think it would translate well also. Most recent designs of comic book characters would translate well to the silver screen.

These suits look way more appealing than all black jump suits. They're part of the reason why I hate the X-Men movies.

I love the suits. I wish we could just start all over with the X-Men franchise and get it right.
As good as Hugh Jackman is, I still wanted to see Wolverine in full mask and outfit.
And Cyclops as a non pussy leader.
Anyways, sorry...getting a bit off track here!

Man, Thor is just going to crush all the marvel movies that came before in terms of quality, story, and tone. Just think about it, they got the translation from comic to live action right, he has about 4 major villians he might go up against, (Destroyer, Loki, Skurge maybe, and some Frost Giants) and the cast is the most talented Marvel ever had.
Whiskey Tango
05-03-2010, 09:40 AM
Yeah, they could get a ton of mileage out of Thor if he takes off as a franchise, Not only does he have a really cool rogue's gallery, his supporting cast is pretty deep as well. Plus Earth and Asgard and all of the Nine worlds to set stories in. Pretty diverse.

They aren't just guys either. Thor has so many different characters the please alot of different tastes.
