The Bigger HD pic now shows some good detail, we can see green is common color in Fandrals gear and Hogguns seems to be a VERY dark rolay blue, almost looks black, from a distance. We are all guessing the big red leg behind Fandral belongs to Volstag.

Perhaps Sif. Looks slender
I wonder who then is behind Loki

Yeah, when the other Lantern Corps came into play, I stopped giving a poop about Hal and the Green Lanterns. As soon as I found out about Saint John Walker and Larfleeze I was like "Screw YOU Hal!". :awesome:
Oh, no, I just meant the other Green Lantern Corps members. I'm pretty bored of the Rainbow Corps at this point. I like Saint Walker, Miri from the Star Sapphires, and Larfleeze, but that's about it.

My fave Asgard's are the more Traditional looking one's. To Me Kirby's design looked like a huge Theme park, or something from the Jetson's. I just hope they manage to stay away from that. So far They have a "look" going that might pass.

I would like to see a cross between Jurgens' Asgard and JMS one. Would look tough. But who am I kidding, LET ME SEE THE BIFROST!!!! RAINBOW BRIDGE FTW!!

I also want the Destroyer to have like 10 min. fight with Thor. The cars are floating around, windows are breaking, everything goes nuts!!! Just like in Thor v2 #1-2.

Yeah some people thought Coipel's Asgard looked like it came straight from LotR, which was JMS' theme it seems to me. He imagined Thor speaking like King Aragorn.
I just hope they come to a decent blending of all the Creations. :D

Simonson was/will be always da best! Too bad there will be no Thor in Destroyer's Armor!!! Big loss))

I've always thought the "golden city" was simply named that because it was trimed in gold, not completely made of Gold as in the way Lee and Kirby portrayed it.
I liked Coipel's Asgard, tho I liked the Raney/Hanna's as well. Coipel to me has that historical look to it. Like I've said before the Renaissance Faire influence in me loves that part of Coipel.

A few things we notice from the Hall Pic. Odins ravens :) , I wish his 2 Wolves would've been at the base of the throne. But check out the hand rests on the throne. They are animals heads. I think maybe even snake heads to represent the World Serpent. The throne has snake-coil theme to it too.

Guard helmets remind me of Parasaurolophus dino heads.

Thor's scalemael looks way better in this image than it did in that first image that was released. It actually looks like armor made out of metal scales, and not silver molded rubber like we were all afraid it would look like.

Personally, I'm really interested in seeing how Thor's suit looks when it's all dirty and battle worn. It's a lot easier to sell the eye on a "used future" than it is for a "clean an new" future. Part of why some of these early shots look kind of jarring is because everything is so darned clean and tidy looking. Once we see Thor in battle though, hopefully that all changes.

If it ends with Loki escaping and having a "Next time, Gadget, next time!" moment then I will be very disappointed. He doesn't have to die but if they want a complete story he needs to get his comeuppance in some way, or else it will feel like too blatant of a franchise setup instead of being a full movie. Public humiliation and imprisonment of the villain is usually the best alternative to killing them.

talking about thor's helmet (and other heroes head gear in general) its slightly annoying that the human side of the alter ego spends a significant amount of time on the screen and the little time the hero spends on the screen the director is using every oppertunity to unmask the character.
judge dredd takes off his helmet in the first five minutes for pete's sake.

Have they appeared in the comics?
Yep, they have. One of them had a pretty significant bunch of appearances early in Dan Jurgens' run, although you'd be hard-pressed to recognize him. ;)

But they're not from the future, they're gods. Gods don't need to look dirty or like they're wearing used, worn clothes or anything. They need to be bright and shiny and full of splendor. I doubt we'll be seeing any of the gods in particularly dirty clothing throughout the film.

In the photo with Odin in the Throne Room it appears that Odin is wearing a somewhat bright gold Tunic / Skirt, but in the High Def Picture of Odin talking with Thor I do not see the bright gold Tunic / Skirt. Now perhaps it is just the lighting that makes it appear different and I am not complaining as I like both pictures immensely, but I am just wondering if anyone thinks he might be wearing two different bottom halfs to his costume in those two pictures. Like maybe he has his formal clothing and then he has his every day clothes. Any thoughts?

Raised platform. Otherwise, those lifts Hopkins is wearing are gonna look ridiculous whether they're hidden by his skirt or not. :o

Thor: The Video Game Launches Marvel Icon in his First Standalone Game Adventure
with Massive Action, Stirring Graphics, and an Original Story

SAN FRANCISCO & LONDON – July 20, 2010 – “By Odin’s beard!” SEGA® Europe Ltd. and SEGA® of America, Inc. today announced they will bring Marvel’s hall-of-fame franchise Thor™ to video game systems for an epic third-person adventure: Thor: The Video Game, scheduled for release on all five major video game platforms in 2011 including the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, the PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system, PSP® (PlayStation® Portable) system, Wii™ and Nintendo DS™.

“We are proud to be bringing Marvel’s Thor to his first solo video game adventure,” commented Gary Knight, Senior Vice President of Marketing at SEGA Europe and SEGA America. “Thor: The Video Game will finally bring the immense power of this iconic hero to lifelong fans, and introduce the God of Thunder to a whole new audience as a true Marvel Super Hero.”

Thor: The Video Game will take players through a spectacular, epic-scale original third-person adventure for which Matt Fraction, the Eisner Award-winning writer and lead Thor comic book author served as story consultant. In the game, Thor battles through the numerous worlds of Norse mythology that span realms ranging from primal worlds of fire and ice to extraordinary planets inhabited by Frost Giants and Trolls to save Asgard, the capital city of the Norse Gods. Thor must overcome monstrous foes lifted from the pages of the comics including Ulik, Ymir, and Surtur, as well as other monstrous denizens. Players will wield the iconic Mjölnir, Thor’s legendary hammer, to fight enemies on an immense scale while controlling the elemental storm powers of lightning, thunder, and wind to vanquish enemies. As Thor earns Valor points through his exploits, players can acquire new abilities, powers, and weapon upgrades.

Each version of the game will be uniquely suited for its platform, with the PlayStation 3 system and Xbox 360 versions featuring cinematic, third-person action gameplay with melee combos, ranged hammer throws, tide-turning elemental powers, and an upgrade system to bolster Thor’s powers as gamers progress. Players will take on enemies up to four times as large as Thor, with multiple grappling points and a variety of strategies for taking them down: go toe-to-toe with a 25 foot tall, 12 ton Ice Trolls for a truly heart-pumping experience.

The Wii game will feature the same overarching storyline as the next-gen consoles, but will also present a different gaming experience by utilizing the Wii Remote™ and Nunchuk™ controllers to battle enemies and deliver Thor’s elemental powers. Thor for the Wii version will also be presented with a uniquely styled comic book look that it will share with the PSP system version, along with different cinematics, story elements, dialog, locations, and dedicated flight levels. Nintendo DS players will experience a 2D side-scrolling adventure with narrative and gameplay unique to the platform.

Brought to the Marvel Universe by the legendary Stan Lee and his brother Larry Lieber and penciled by noted artist Jack Kirby, Thor first appeared in Marvel Comics in 1962. Based on Norse mythology, the Marvel character of Thor became a comic book Super Hero both in his own right and as a member of the Avengers alongside comic book icons The Hulk™, Iron Man™, and Captain America™. Thor: The Video Game marks the character’s progression from mythology to comics to TV and film, and now to interactive entertainment in his first standalone appearance in a game.

SEGA has excited legions of Marvel fans by unveiling Thor: The Video Game for release on "all five major consoles" in summer 2011.

SEGA has then cast a shadow of doubt over the project by revealing it to be an accompaniment of the Thor film.

No one mention Iron Man.

Still, Thor may have some legs. Acclaimed writer Matt Fraction (!) is consulting on the story and drawing inspiration from the comic and not, apparently, the film.

You'll obviously be muscular man Thor [who doesn't have a beard -Ed] who wields his massive storm-controlling Mjolnir hammer into the face of any that stand in his way. You'll be able to upgrade your Thor as the game progresses.

The PS3 and Xbox 360 games will have the graphical clout, where as the Wii, DS and PSP games "will be presented in a comic book style".

No assets yet.

Sega confirmed today it will launch an "epic" Thor third-person adventure game in summer 2011 to coincide with the release of the Marvel Studios film. Writer Matt Fraction is serving as a story consultant.

According to the announcement, Thor: The Video Game "will delve deep into the heroic tales of the Thor universe," with players battling "an array of ancient enemies and beasts from the many worlds of Norse mythology by using different battle strategies and elemental powers." Mjolnir will allow gamers to command the powers of the storm. Thor is being developed for all five major console platforms.

Word of the video game leaked in September when notes from a meeting between representatives of Sega and Sony Computer Entertainment America were discovered on a Sega America FTP site.

The God of Thunder Strikes! Thor: The Video Game Coming 2011

LONDON & SAN FRANCISCO (July 20th, 2010) – SEGA® Europe Ltd. and SEGA® of America, Inc. today announced they will bring Marvel Entertainment Inc.’s hall-of-fame franchise Thor™ to video game systems in an epic third-person adventure game. Thor: The Video Game™ is scheduled for release on all five major console platforms in summer 2011.

Thor: The Video Game will delve deep into the heroic tales of the Thor universe. Eisner Award-winning writer and lead Thor comic book author Matt Fraction brings authenticity to the narrative as a story consultant, and elevates the story beyond the comic and movie universe throughout the video game. Players will take on an array of ancient enemies and beasts from the many worlds of Norse mythology by using different battle strategies and elemental powers. The sacred Mjolnir, Thor’s legendary hammer, will allow players to command the powers of the storm: wind, thunder and lightning. By earning Valor in combat throughout the game, players will also be able to select from a wider range of abilities, acquire new attacks, powers and upgrades.

“We are proud to be bringing Thor to his first solo video game adventure” commented Gary Knight, Senior Vice President of Marketing at SEGA Europe and SEGA America. “Thor: The Video Game will finally bring the immense power of this iconic hero to lifelong fans, and introduce the God of Thunder to a whole new audience as a true Marvel Super Hero.”

Players will be able to follow the same overarching story in the PSP™, Nintendo Wii™ and DS™ versions presented in a comic book style, allowing fans to explore new content in the same universe.

While taking its inspiration directly from the mythology of the comics, Thor: The Video Game will launch around the time of the upcoming Thor film adaptation from Marvel Studios.

Brought to the Marvel Universe by the legendary Stan Lee and his brother Larry Lieber, and penciled by noted artist Jack Kirby, Thor first appeared in Marvel Comics in 1962. Based on Norse mythology, the Marvel character of Thor became a comic book Super Hero both in his own right and as a member of the Avengers alongside comic book icons The Hulk™, Iron Man™ and Captain America™. How is that automatically a disappointment? It's about Thor as a young man earning the right to wield Mjolnir, based on a really great series called Son of Asgard. I don't have much hope that the people involved are going to do that series justice, but the premise as a whole is not cause for disappointment.

if we'd already had a animated movie with an adult thor and they wanted to go in a different direction then fine but the first incarnation of thor on the small screen (since the 60's cartoon) and its thor as a kid, at least to me is disappointing.

so far we've had

Marvel Comics has released a look at the promotional posters for "Thor" and "Captain America: The First Avenger" that the publisher will be giving away this week at Comic-Con International. The posters, based on production art from the movies, will be available to attendees who stop by the Marvel Booth (#2329)

Thor (In Theaters, May 6, 2011)

Directed by Kenneth Branagh, the epic adventure "Thor" spans the Marvel Universe from present day Earth to the realm of Asgard. At the center of the story is The Mighty Thor, a powerful but arrogant warrior whose reckless actions reignite an ancient war. Thor is cast down to Earth and forced to live among humans as punishment. Once here, Thor learns what it takes to be a true hero when the most dangerous villain of his world sends the darkest forces of Asgard to invade Earth.

The screenplay for "Thor" was penned by Mark Protosevich as well as Ashley Miller & Zack Stentz, and Don Payne. Marvel Studios' President Kevin Feige will produce the film. Alan Fine, Stan Lee, David Maisel, and Marvel Studio's Co-President, Louis D'Esposito, will executive produce.

judge dredd takes off his helmet in the first few minutes and decades later fans are still pissed off. its a big deal. I can almost GUARANTEE thor mortal alter ego will be on screen for 3/4 of the movie so would it really 'THAT' much trouble to have thor wear a helmet for that miserly 1/4?

It would be a sequence that would only take a few moments and give Cap a trully indestructible sheild.

Probably a sprinkler system. Unless lighting came down and tore through that nylon enclosure they put up around Mjolnir before that pic was taken. Or maybe it was just raining outside because Thor was getting closer to Mjolnir and he tracked all of that mud and water inside like a seriously impolite houseguest. :)

I'm just wondering about the Thor pic pulling mjolnir out of the dirt. Can't he just lift it with one hand and no effort. Looks like he is tense. Maybe he did something unworthy. Or this is him after gaining his worth to be able to use mjolnir again. Maybe Odin took mjolnir away and put the inscribtion on after thors banishment and he will spend the rest of the movie proving his worth. I hope he spends more time with mjolnir than without. Can't wait for Thor. Gonna be epic.

Read on /film mjolnir doesn't deem him worthy yet. Maybe Loki is attacking the base looking for mjolnir. Thor is trying to get mjolnir but not worthy, so Thor tries to protect Jane or people without his power and is injured saving them. probably thrown to the side. Then when Loki turns back to Jane or people Thor makes his way back to mjolnir and all of a sudden Thor is worthy. Big lightning strike comes down and behold Thor god of thunder. Yeah, I know this is not perhaps the right forum for it, but I'm not sure I like Cap with a gun. I think of his shield as being not only defensive, but offensive in use. Also, there is the moral side to it. Captain America is suppose to be better then Killing people, and while a gun does not necessarilly mean death to someone being shot, it certainly is viewed in the general publics eye as being used for the intention of killing. I think of Captain America as being Honorable and Courageous. I also think he does not take the easy path if he feels going the hard route means doing the right thing. Oh, and Thor is looking sweet!

Oh, there were a few people on here complaining that Thor shouldve been HHH, another wrestler or body-builder as no actor would be able to do justice to the character's size. :whatever:

I wonder how many of 'em are hiding about now?

As for the Evans/Cap size thing, I really dont get the criticism's that I sometimes read on the Cap threads. Evans is normally in excellent shape anyways and on top of that he has confirmed that he'll be working out for the role.

Sure, I know Cap's been drawn like a brick ****house from time to time, but I've never equated the 'peak of human perfection' to necessarilly mean having big muscles - for me, it's all about the quality of the muscle, and Chris Evans has lean muscle mass in spades.

They tent, or dome off the entire area and then start to go to work.

I see a crane or a crazy winch with chains trying to move the Hammer and failing... one Shiled gets a grip on the idea no man can move they will start in with machines.

I don't think I would like this, but I am still throwing it out there. What if Shield figures out they can't lift Mjolnir, but that they can lift the ground underneath that holds Mjolnir, which is why they have all of the ground attached to it. My idea comes from something I had heard in one of these forums perhaps months ago, about Hulk battling Thor and that Hulk was not able to lift Mjolnir, but that he was able to lift Thor who was holding Mjolnir. Kind of a technicality of sorts. Any thoughts?

Yeah, they definitely build a temporary base around it. Look at its surroundings in that pic: flimsy nylon connected by plastic. Looks like a giant version of those tents that campers use now, specifically designed to be quick and easy to set up.
