Me too. And Thor's still young in this movie. Maybe on the sequels he'll grow a beard.

No, you're selling this movie to kids. And kids love younger looking protagonist.

BTW, current Thor is also clean shaven.

He should have 3 day fuzz going on because that'd look bad ass.

Philly Phanboy

At least a hint of a beard.

This will likely be promoted as more of a fantasy genre than your typical superhero flick so they should go with a more rugged look on the hero rather than clean cut. Please just say no to the Eragon look KB. :O

I'd go for bearded Thor. A neat, trimmed beard, though. Bearded Thor is in every way superior to unbearded Thor. :oldrazz:

I'd say wait on the Beard even tho one of my all time favorite looks is Lord Thor. The beard to me says wisdom, and Thor may be a experienced warrior But I would wait on the beard. This is supposed to be his introduction and I'd go clean shavin' because of the chance this IS still the banishment story and he would be younger.

Well Marvel's Thor has always been LOOSELY based on myth even with Walt Simonson and JMS' runs being closely written in the same manner as the myths.
To ME like I said a Bearded Thor just tells me he has more wisdom in the 616 universe.

Beard-less for Thor and Bearded for Avengers

highguard
06-12-2009, 02:07 PM
The beardless Thor will work more for the movies and the target audience and that is also the most common look in the comics.

Again I defer to Jack Kirby's choices, over other greats such as Simonson, who gave him a beard........ for short periods of time.

I think it depends on how Chris looks in the costume, he may need a beard to toughen him up a bit.

A good artist could draw him cleanshaven and still intimidating, might be harder for a young, good looking dude to pull off.. I think that Hemsworth may need one, I hope its at least being considered.

TheCorpulent1
06-12-2009, 07:48 PM
Hemsworth looks pretty tough in normal clothes to me. Once he's done bulking up for Thor, I imagine he'll look even tougher, too. I don't think the beard would do much other than age him a bit, so I doubt they'll give him one. Still, I can dream...

Yeah, isn't the real/original Thor of the myths supposed to have red hair? Giving Thor blonde hair makes him look like a better dressed He-Man (whom he predates by about 20 years, to say nothing of a few hundred years).

I'd be cool with Thor having a beard. We need more bearded superheroes.

JackIvyGB
06-13-2009, 04:25 AM
I voted yes for the beard, but I had this idea. Thor starts out clean shaven. Shenanigans ensue, Thor is banished to earth. As Thor wanders earth, the beard sets in. Not a huge epic beard, just accumulating scruffiness. Something that grows over the days and looks cool in the final battle. Then, at the end of the movie, Fury invites Thor to meet with him. He walks in clean shaven and Fury makes a comment about how he liked the scruffy look.

Thoughts?

Heh, remember that issue.

Isnt that the one where Hyde beats Jarvis to within an inch of his life and then knocks himself out by walking around a corner into Thor's chest? :hehe:

Seem to recall that is causes Thor to flinch slightly too (as he was having some power issues at the time)......................

Anyways, back to the thread proper - Brazilian or 70's bush?

hmmm......I say Brazilian, with an option for 70's bush in the sequels.

I think he should start off clean shaven. To emphasize his immaturity and youthfulness compared to the other Gods.

Then when he get's banished, and matures, he should get the beard.

Maybe I'm putting too much thought into it but I think that could be a good way to symbolize his change in attitude from a arrogant, immature, quick tempered youth. To a mature and noble man.

TheCorpulent1

Both of them are really thick. If movie-Thor has a beard, I'd want it to be close-cropped and neatly trimmed. I think shaggy beards age people a lot more than a clean, trimmed beard.

Brian Braddock

I didn't like the beard back when Thor's face got scarred in the Simionson yarn of "brittle" Thor, but it did grow on me. But I had to vote NAY for the first movie I want a perfect Thor right down to the comics original costume, with the caveat they could make it slightly barberian looking by making the circles armour, etc.

What I really want is for this movie to be successful and rock.

You also have to keep in mind what the actual actor would look like with a beard though.

Do a quick google of all the Hemsworth pics with and without facial hair and see if you still think he should go without a beard. I'd post comparison pics but I'm too lazy today. :o

Since they're going for a "younger", more immature Thor in his solo film, no beard. Then belt it out in The Avengers to hold his own against more mature/older-looking members and general badass-ity.

TheCorpulent1
07-15-2009, 05:08 PM
See, I'd go the opposite way. The beard makes Thor look more like a viking badass, so I say use it if his movie is going to feature him in Asgard a lot. But when he's with the Avengers, he's meant to project a clean-cut protector of the innocent image, so no beard there.

no beard. there have been over 600 hundred issues of thor and I'd esitmate thor has appeared in a beard in less than 50 of those issues.
that like having daredevil appear in his movie in the yellow and black outfit.

That chart is missing "Unkempt hobo", which leaves me feeling disappointed and, frankly, unrepresented...

It also doesn't appear to have a Leonidas beard either. Disappointing indeed.

I thought Leonidas had the "Short Boxed Beard."

Thor without a beard is like Wolverine without a beard.

Wolverine doesn't exactly have a 'beard'.

He pretty much does in his most recent movie. I think there's about an inch and a half of his chin that isn't covered in hair.

But yeah, he's supposed to have really enormous mutton chops, not a full beard.

Thor is a young God of only 500 years old so
it's definitly no! no! no!:cmad::cmad::cmad:

Seriously how old is Thor anyway?
I remembered having this discussion with on of my childhood friend
and he told me since Thor was reborn in the middle age he has to be around 500 years old.

I havent a clue to be honest, sorry dude. Maybe some folk on here who know a bit more about Thor will be able to help.

What I do know is that I was looking through some classic Buscema Thor stories recently and quite honestly, call me crazy if you want, but I think I saw a little Hemsworth in JB's Thor face.

Thor is at least over 1,000 years old. He met the Eternals 1,000 years ago. Anything earlier than that becomes a bit confusing because of the Ragnarok cycles and the fact that time is said to pass differently in Asgard.

I wonder if he has trouble recalling the name of someone he met 1,000 years ago?

I mean, I have trouble recalling the name of someone I met yesterday ffs.

No, he left Asgard via the rainbow bridge. You're probably thinking of the time Thor found himself in the middle of the Trojan War. He followed Loki into a system of underground caves, lost his memory, and stumbled out into ancient Troy. Those caves may or may not have taken him into the past as well as to the physical location of Troy, but the issue's not 100% clear on it. For all we know, Thor might have just gone to Troy in the time of the Trojan War and be over 3,000 years old.

Ah Brian. You're funny. Khan said to McCoy...."I like a brave man". I like a man with a sense of humor.

A good compromise would be giving him a beard until he turns into Donald Blake. The mix of the two identities would have him borrow a bit of the two to form a new Thor, less barbarian.

TheCorpulent1

That's a good idea. Although Don Blake isn't in the film, according to Kevin Feige.

should be interesting to see how his looks will be.
