Should Mandarin be in Iron Man 2

I put no because your choices are too limited.
I wouldn't mind his presence being felt like it was in the first movie, yet I wouldn't want things to get cluttered either.

^I agree. That's why I voted no. But I wouldn't mind him having a cameo to help continue the foreshadowing. Kind of like how the Emperor had a cameo in ESB.

No way. I like the idea Fav's came up with, keeping Mandarin in the background, not really focused on in the first two films and hopefully bring him in the third movie.

^Yeah, it's a good strategy IMO. Should help this franchise avoid the 3rd film's curse of suckiness.

Exactly what I was about to say, I'd much rather have Mandarin appear in the third installment. Build up towards IM's (arguably) most powerful nemesis.

Plus it keeps the mystery of the character alive. The first movie made the audience realize that he has some part with the "Ten Rings" terrorist organizations. Now what hints ...maybe actual physical hints will Fav's give us to the Mandarin in the second film.

Yes, but only as a cameo.

do you really think there will be Ironman 3?
Robert Downey will play Tony in two Avengers movie, at least, so that would be 5 years from now.
so when do you think they'd do Ironman 3?
In 2016?

IM3 will likely be the very next Marvel movie after the Avengers in 2012.

'12 or '13 most likely. And its not like between now and that time, Downey would just be sitting around and out of the world of the character, he will be part of Avengers.

It didn't even occur to me that we won't see IRON MAN 3 until after THE AVENGERS. One hopes The Madarin wouldn't feel anticlimactic after whatever's in THE AVENGERS.

^Fair point. But the mandarin has the opportunity to get more up close and personal since it'll just be about him and Iron Man...most likely.

I could see a cameo at the end of the movie as a possibility but that's about it.
Look at the bulky cast list right now and you'll notice that the prospect of adding another main villain would make it a Spidey 3-ish mess with too much going on.

RDJ is not going to be playing IM two times in the same year. Plus if Favreau is directing Avengers I am thinking he will need the full three year break to recharge minimum. I'd say 2015 is more realistic... with an outside shot of 2014, which would be ideal.

Fav is not directing Avengers, just going to help produce it. And i dont think he means that IM3 will be in the same year, but means it will be the first movie after Avengers which is going to be in '12.

Not directly. I'd have an cameo, with someone (Maybe Phil Coulson?) revealing to be working for Mandarin, and reporting something to him. Then, we cut to an secret lair, where Mandarim watches everything from monitors. We'd only see his hands.

you can not tease with a villain that noone knows. because the impct is nto big enough on the people. only fans would get happy because they would be the only one who know him.
to the GP i would be just some guy. or villain.
this is not a bal guy in in superman movie that people know. this is not a guy with clown make up in a batman movie that people know.
if they will tease it it will be IMO only for the fans.

is waiting good? i dont know. i guess it depends. what if for some unknown reasons a third movie doesnt happen? never hold back. never hold back with your perfect story. never whait. because you never know what will happen.
i understand that they didnt want him in the first movie. but not for the second?

The first movie teased S.H.I.E.L.D. and The Avengers and the GP don't know what they are. I remember walking out of the theater with people asking "what is the Avenger Initiative?" and "Why was Samuel L. Jackson at the end?"

It seems only fitting that this is my first post. I am with most people and think there should be hints or subtle glimpses of him.Seeing him at the end of the next movie would be a good feeling going out of he theater.:word:

and after they watch Iron Man 3 with Mandarin, they will. and when they go back to re-watch IM1, they'll think "Ten rings? That's like that Mandarin guy"
It is just a tease that is foreshadowing, it isn't spelling anything out for those who don't know

Iron Man 2 has alot going on in it, so I don't want the Mandarin in the film as a major character. Some forshadowing and background presence would be brilliant, ready for him to be the main villain in Iron Man 3.

I agree that he should be alluded to for IM3. Have a scene with Stark and Hammer talking...
"You know Tony... it is an arms race to the end. Whether you are selling them, or trying to stop me from selling them... all we have is the process of trying to one up each other. You know the game... You were the best player. Now... I have to say that I find this new found nobility tiresome and somewhat misplaced. Look at you. Your gonna save the world??? With what??? More weapons... The best weapons yet, I might add. And you have to have known, that once we all saw what you have made, we would be right on your heels. You gonna stop progress Tony??? You gonna stop the world from turning??? Well, I am here to tell you that there is nothing that any of us can do to stop it... even if we wanted. There are things happenning that leave us no option but to find our own little place in the future. Really... you should see some of the things that my associate can do. It really is breath-taking. So com'on Tony... let's not waist each others time and resources, with all this... 'fighting'. That is for everyone else... and we don't want to fall behind... even the great Tony Stark could fall behind what's coming."

True but it's not like we're still living in the 1980's. Anyone who's a fan of the film can ever so easily find out more stuff about Iron Man, including stuff about the Mandarin.

I cooked it up... I get caught up and start turning on an idea. It is one of many many degeneracies.
But I have to say... it is inspired in many ways from the ongoing discussions on this board, so I want to distribute credit for anything that sounds even remotely cool.

Plus remember, Robert Downey Jr already confirmed he is 100% on board for a IM3 when he did his first interviews for IM2, as is Favreau, right now they are setting things up for both the Avengers and Mandarin.
Favreau said early in the production of IM that he was setting up a trilogy with Mandarin being the ultimate baddie for the final film his only concern was making Mandarin believable for todays audience, I think what happens with Thor will influence how Favreau approachs Mandarin, plus if all three movies do well, who says a IM4 is out of the question, granted Downey will be in his late 50's by then, but he's keeping on great shape.

Maybe that's the problem...Favreau needs that long to come up with a version of Manadarin that is believable.

I think they have to make more of an effort to get Mandarin in the film, Mandarin doesn't need to speak, but the audience needs to know that Mandarin will be the end all villain in the Iron Man Trilogy, IMO.

And who will play him? You'd have to secure an actor who won't play the character for another 4-5 years... unless he is meant to be an Avenger villain, which I don't forsee.
