Exclusive: Jessica Biel In Talks To Join 'Thor' (http://www.nukethefridge.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=1923:exclusive-jessica-biel-in-talks-to-join-thor&catid=10:news&Itemid=39) Written by Jason Nicholl Wednesday, 01 July 2009 04:13
Our sources, from deep within, have once again exclusively told NukeTheFridge.com a nice little tidbit involving the casting of an upcoming Marvel movie. According to our source, Jessica Biel is in talks about joining the cast of "Thor."
Reportedly if cast, Biel will play the love interest of "Thor." The most probable love interest for "Thor" would more than likely be "Jane Foster," a nurse and girlfriend of "Thor" alter ego Donald Blake. But the problem is that our source was not sure of the character's name, but seemed to believe it was the same female character from the animated "Hulk vs Thor." If that is the case, since "Jane Foster" was not in the animated movie, Biel is more than likely playing either "Amora, The Enchantress" or "Sif." Those characters did appear in "Hulk vs Thor." "The Enchantress" is a powerful sorceress who seeks to make Thor fall in love with her. When Thor rejects her for "Sif," an Asgardian warrior whom Thor falls in love with, "The Enchantress" helps Loki in his plot against Thor.
Considering that all rumors say that the first "Thor" movie, directed by Kenneth Branagh, is dealing with the title character's time in Asgard and will not feature Donald Blake at all, or not until the very climax of the film, it is more likely that Biel would be either "Sif" or "The Enchantress." Personally, I think she would make a great Enchantress. What do you think?
Stay tuned for more confirmation on the possible casting of Jessica Biel, and exactly what character she will play in "Thor."

Keep her away from both Sif and the Enchantress please.

What the f***? Tiny, petit Natalie Portman's being considered for Sif and tall, voluptuous Jessica Biel is being considered for Jane Foster? What kind of mad, backwards reality are we living in?!

Either way, I wouldn't mind seeing Biel in the movie. I don't think she's a terrible actress or anything, and she'd certainly bring some star power (and eye candy ;)) to the film.

Not my ideal choice but... ehh I could live with it.. and she's gonna be sif not foster.

I'm pretty sure she would be Sif. She could work, and bring some star power (and hotness!) to the movie as well. But there are at least 5 or 6 actresses I would prefer for the role.

Sif and Amora were both treated as love interests in Hulk vs. Hell, Amora's the one whose kiss "resurrects" Thor or whatever.

I'd be very happy with Biel as Sif. Not my ideal choice, but I like it. As stated by pretty much all of you, she'd bring some needed star power. I also think she'd look great opposite Hemsworth.

Save Amora for the sequel.

How would you guys feel if we get Biel as Sif and Portman as Foster?

TheCorpulent1
07-01-2009, 05:10 PM
That would be great, but I doubt Portman would be cast for such a small role. Rumors are that Blake won't even be in the film anymore, so what kind of role would Jane Foster have?

Maybe a cameo at the end with Blake? She probably wouldn't do that unless the promised her screen time in Avengers, though.

There are better choices, but I wouldn't mind her as Sif. And she is well trained so I wouldn't have trouble seeing her as a female Asgardian Warrior.

Come on now. Neither are going to Oscar nominated, but Biel has at least attempted to stretch her acting muscle with the Illustionist and Easy Virtue. She may lack that "je ne sais pas que" but at least she doesn't harm the films she's been in either. She's got a great physical look.

Despite Stan Lee's writing style, it ain't Shakespeare.

You're right. According to Kevin Feige, Donald Blake won't be in the film. Months ago, there were some rumors about DB being written into the script, but all was denied in a recent interview.

two things:

1. Ken friggin Branagh, if he thinks she can pull it off after seeing her read, I have faith...and if she sucks he wont take her.

2. I guess she could still be Jane Foster. Even though theres no blake in the film, Thor does still spend time on earth, so a love interest in Midgard isn't outta the question.

Yeah... I wasn't confident. But I was thinking more along the lines of veteran actors that are type cast, but are solid and well known. Not the freaking lead female love interest. All I can say is... if Marvel goes in this direction there will be no turning back. They will need yet another voluptuous actress to complete the love triangle, so I definitely think a Portman is still in play. At least she'd be a better actress, even if she can't hold her own against Biel bodywise.

I never read it, but according to the people that have, the original script had a Viking playing a part in teaching Thor humility. Since it sounds like they changed the Earth portion to the modern day, maybe they swapped that character out for Jane Foster?

You can save the Asgard females for sequels being that a lot of this will be an Earth story. I think they will still be in the film, just not as the main love interest.

Ursa
07-14-2009, 12:35 AM
If Jane Foster is the love interest, so there's no Sif. If Jessica Biel is still in it, she'll be probably Enchantress.

And I think that Portman is more ideal for Foster than Sif anyway.

zeptron

Sif is Thor's love interest in Asgard, and when Thor was sent to earth, he was sent as Donald Blake, and fell in love with Jane Foster.

Well since Donald Blake is officially not in the film, my guess is Thor will fall in love with Jane Foster after he is sent to earth, leaving Sif in Asgard.

Philly Phanboy
07-14-2009, 08:45 AM
I don't see them removing Sif. She is--or more accurately her hair is--a large part of the lore that ties Loki and Mjolnir with Thor.

I also can't see Portman's role in this movie being any more substantial than Bryce Dallas Howard's role was in Spider-Man 3.

TheCorpulent1
07-14-2009, 09:53 AM
Meh, I vastly prefer Sif as Thor's love interest over Jane Foster. I get the feeling that Sif will be cast aside in favor of Jane for the movies, though. At best, Sif'll probably be a friend or an ex or something.

Kurosawa
07-14-2009, 11:34 AM
Or not appear at all. Which is weak.

I'm somewhat concerned about the direction of the movie due to Earth being brought in more. I was hoping it would be much more of a fantasy LOTR film than a superhero movie.

Hope I'm wrong.

TheCorpulent1
07-14-2009, 11:43 AM
Yeah, I'm not as excited about the setting changing to include more of Earth either. Plenty of time for that when Thor is an Avenger. His own story should reflect the mythological aspect more, I think. But there's no way to know how it'll turn out at this point, so I'm still cautiously optimistic.

Ursa
07-14-2009, 11:55 AM
Two love interests? Why?

They won't cast Natalie Portman, an A-list actress, to be just one of the love interests, her role should be substantial, although she won't sign on.

Maybe Jessica Biel was auditioning for the same role and lost, or she is in negotiations to be the Enchantress, a villain partner for Loki.

I think it is much more interesting than two love interests...

FaT_tONle
07-14-2009, 11:55 PM
There is no time to fit the Earth development in the Avengers movie. Cap will already mostly be a set piece and that screentime in Avengers will need to be devoted more towards Steve Rogers than Thor. Plus audiences will get more of the "superhero" feel in an Earth based film, which will help sell the film. They will embrace the fantasy world of Asgard in sequels once they familiarize themselves with the character, assuming the movie is a hit.
