Johnny Blaze

Well, let's see if this gets approved. :o

.Screen name: Johnny Blaze

.Character you wish to portray: Mordru, the Dark Lord

.Hero, villain, or walking the line?: Villain

.Powers and physical attributes: Mordru is a Lord of Chaos and possesses vast magical abilities. His only limit seems to be his own imagination. Mordru's true form is that of a ethereal parasite, that attaches itself to a host. The current host is the body of the Atlantean mage, Arion.

.Origin and backstory (as you see it): Mordru, imprisoned in the Rock of Eternity, was freed when the Spectre went on his mad rampage and attacked the wizard, Shazam. Laying low until the Spectre's Day of Vengeance was finished, Mordru took control of the mantle of Fate as Hector Hall was still imprisoned by the Spectre's magic. The Dark Lord then proceeded to recruit other villains to his cause. This Dark Alliance spread fear throughout the hero community, killing many heroes and coming close to carrying out their plans for conquest and the death of all capes.
But they were defeated when Black Adam discovered the that Mordru was the one who destroyed Khandaq in order to get him to join the Alliance. Freeing Fate from his prison, the heroes quickly turned the tides as the Dark Alliance did what they could not, and defeated themselves.

In a final struggle with Fate, Mordru was banished from that dimension for all time...

The Dark Lord, crossing the infinite earths trying to find his way back home, came to a planet inhabited by the heroes he knew, but also ones he did not recognize. Mordru needed magical power to cross dimensions again, so he went about hunting down mystics and magical being, killing them and absorbing their essense. Eventually he was confronted by the likes of the Juggernaut, Thor, and the Flash. After killing the Odinson, Mordru was finally stopped when the young mystic, Zatanna, forced the Dark Lord through a vortex with the help of her teacher, Dr. Anthony Druid. Sadly, Dr. Druid was forced into the portal with him...

Now, the Dark Lord finds himself deposited on a world like the one he seeks, only different. It is not the Earth he is looking for, but the Dark Lord is nothing if not adaptable. This Earth, ripe with opportunities, will most definitely work.

.The burning question - Why this character?: He was the first character I've ever played in the RPGs, and I think the only character I've played in different RPGs too. I've played him as he was in the comics. A unique being, with no other duplicate existing in any other universe.
As such, the very same Mordru I used in DC, way back in season II, is the same that I played in the OU back in it's first season. He is traveling from RPG to RPG, all the while looking to make his way back to the main DCU reality to exact his revenge on the heroes who defeated him many years ago.

.How will this version of your character differ from others? How will it be Ultimate?: That's the only real catch, it won't be. It'll be the same Mordru that I played in the DCU RPG and the OU RPG.

.What do you believe you can bring to the RPG?: A unique character, and a villain that could give the heroes an immediate threat to tangle with.

.Provide a sample post as the character you wish to portray, in three paragraphs or more:

The vortex slams shut, depositing the Dark Lord unceromoniously onto his backside onto the cold desert sand. Mordru growled to himself as he slowly stood. Many scorpions and a few vipers that were near began to scurry away from the Dark Lord's presense as he serveyed the scene.
The full moon beat down on him as he closed his eyes and breathed deeply.

"Well, this certainly feels promising", Mordru said to himself.
"But, then again, so did the last world."

A groaning sound caught Mordru's attention.

The Dark Lord looked behind him to see Dr. Druid slowly coming to. The doctor's head was bloody, and next to him sat a large rock with a red stain.

"Apparently you're new to dimension travel", Mordru smiled as he walked over to kneel next to the man.
"Always watch out for the landing."

The Dark Lord's hand shot out and wrapped around Druid's throat. Green energy coursed from Mordru's hand and into Dr. Druid's body, causing him to light up like a lightbulb. Druid went wide eyed and screamed.

. THE NEW ULTIMATE DC RPG .
Character Application

.Screen name: Catman_prb

.Character you wish to portray: Kyle Rayner

.Hero, villain, or walking the line?: Hero

.Powers and physical attributes: Power ring and the usual mess of powers that go with that.

.Origin and backstory (as you see it): On Earth, Kyle Rayner was a delinquent child, constantly running away from his abusive parents. He was a member of a variety of gangs, some more dangerous than others. After getting involved with a series of petty crimes, Kyle got cold feet when his gang stabbed a patrolling police officer. He tried to keep the gang away, or at least to call an ambulance, but the group turned on him and beat him half to death. Meanwhile, the now dead police officer was actually an undercover Lantern, who's ring found the nearest person of great willpower.

.The burning question - Why this character?: I need to carry on with the Lantern protaganists during the Blackest Night.

.How will this version of your character differ from others? How will it be Ultimate?: Kyle will be more of a soldier - the new GL training program is extensive.

.What do you believe you can bring to the RPG?: Penis

.Provide a sample post as the character you wish to portray, in three paragraphs or more:
The Fallen were everywhere, a huge wave of writhing flesh. Kyle did his best to slash through them with his ring, but the green light didn't seem to damage them at all. In fact, it was only his experience in kicking the crap out of whatever he needed to that meant that he wasn't currently being eaten by a dead Lantern that looked like something out of Star Wars. Their bones seemed more brittle, perhaps by age, but Kyle had managed to snap the jaw of that creature right off.

And as suddenly as they had appeared, they were gone. He was well aware of standing next to Kilowog, one of the greatest Lanterns of all time. All that remained was Saint Walker, suspended in the middle of the battlefield, a black spike driven through his chest. Those bright blue eyes looked straight into his, and Walker attempted a strained smile.

"I hope you learn something from this,"

And then he was gone in a flash of blue light. All that remained was a blue ring, which Kyle quickly reached out and grabbed, sliding it into a discrete pocket in his uniform. He looked at Kilowog, who seemed to be stunned, but quickly snapped out of it.

"All right you poozers, you just survived the second battle of Ysmault. Now someone contain Sinestro, pick up the dead and then let's haul ass back to Oa," he shouted, his voice reaching every Lantern in the sector.

"You too kid," he said, patting Kyle on the back heavily.

I'm sorry. A communist Frankenstein seemed like such a good idea at the time. Unfortunately, I don't think he fits well into the Ultimate DC universe. I feel like kind of a tool, but I think I'm going to drop the character. I guess it wasn't very likely anyone was going to try to ultimatize Frankenstein, was it?

Anyway, I'll have another app up soon. The Question is a very tempting character...

The next MicroHero I plan to work on is Saint Walker. Cats, is there anything you specifically want on him or do I have free reign?

EDIT: And I am aware you just had him killed, but I wanted to make MicroHeroes for all the characters ever introduced in UDC much like I've recently done over at CAH. This is the kind of game where we, the players, make the entire universe. So it makes it more special to remember the characters briefly used, used, or are deceased.

Red_Robin77
09-12-2009, 04:49 PM
.Screen name: Red_Robin77

.Character you wish to portray: Booster Gold (Michael Jon Carter)

.Hero, villain, or walking the line?: Hero

.Powers and physical attributes: Booster possesses a suit from the 23rd Century, that gives him enhanced strength, flight, power blasts, energy shields and the ability to travel through time.

.Origin and backstory (as you see it): Michael Jon Carter was a star runner for Metropolis University, nicknamed Booster for his speed. He was a hero to the school, winning many races between schools for them, even gaining a gold medal for one effort. However, in a vital race for the school, Carter is disqualified for a false start. He instantly loses all respect from his fellow students for being disqualified and becomes completely unpopular. After that, Carter wore his only gold medal everywhere, to keep a memory of the glory days with him. After the incident, Carter found he only had one friend, Richard Hunter, or Rip as Carter called him.

Rip believes that he's created a suit that is capable of travelling through time, called a Sentient Kinetical Environment Enabler of Time and Space (S.K.E.E.T.S for short). Rip explains to Carter that the suit will be capable of travelling through time when he retrieves one final piece that can only be found in the Metropolis Museum. He gets Carter to help him, saying he can be popular again with the suit. Relunctantly, Carter helped Rip to get the piece, which Rip fitted immediately. The computer in the suit came alive, but soon after security catch up with them and Rip is caught. With just the suit with him, Carter is told by the suit's computer to put on the suit, which activated an emergency protocol, sending Carter hurtling through time.

.The burning question - Why this character?: Booster is a character I'm very fond of and I feel like I've finally come up with an ultimate version I'm happy with.

.How will this version of your character differ from others? How will it be Ultimate?: This Booster didn't choose to travel through time, he was forced to, or would have gotten caught. He's completely lost and his goal is to try and get home and isn't focused on being a celebrity until he can fix S.K.E.E.T and get back to the 23rd Century.

.What do you believe you can bring to the RPG?: I can bring somebody eager to try something new with a character that I feel will be fun.

.Provide a sample post as the character you wish to portray, in three paragraphs or more:

I skid down the corridor of the Metropolis Musuem, Rip behind my carrying his suit as he fiddles with it.

"Hurry up!" I yell back to my friend as I try and figure out where the exit is.

"I'm nearly done!" he calls to me, trying to keep up as well as tamper with the suit.

"You can finish it when we get out of this damn place!"

"There!"

I spin around to see Rip holding up his suit triumphantly and begins to speed up slightly. I can see the faint figures of the security guards catching up with us. I look at any other place to go than the corridor and spot a door to the left of us. I dive towards it and it slides open, Rip following on behind me. I look around at my new surroundings, seeing the Superman exhibit. I look back to Rip quickly as he admires his work on his hands.

"We need to get out of here."

"We can use the suit, let me just activate the onboard computer system and-

<S.K.E.E.T.S ONLINE>

"Woah..."

"I told you it would work!"

<HOW MAY I BE OF SERVICE, MR HUNTER?>

"We need to get-"

Before Rip can finish his sentence, the guards burst in, catching Rip by surprise and make him throw the suit in the air in surprise. I catch it as the grab hold of Rip.

"Get the suit out!"

Instinctively, I run through the exhibit hurriedly, clutching to the suit tightly.

<MAY I RECOMMEND THAT YOU PUT ME ON, SIR?>

Hesitantly, I dive off to a random door and leap into a cupboard. The door slides shut and I squirm into the suit in the tight space, before putting my jacket and medal over the top.

<ACTIVATING EMERGENCY PROTOCOL 1>

Before I know it, everything around me warps and I can see nothing as the cupboard disappears and all the world around me goes silent.

I know people hate giving a summary of what's happening in an active RPG, but I'm thinking of jumping back in and I don't really know what's going on here. What is going on in the Ultimate DC Universe?

Johnny Blaze
09-15-2009, 01:03 PM
Let's see, off the top of my head, stuff that's still going on...

Superman and Flash are joining together to save the world of Almerac...

The Lanterns are in the thick of it against William Hand and his dead army...

The Joker is beginning his plot to dismantle Gotham...

Bane is quietly stalking his prey, one Bruce Wayne...

Batman is busy barely posting... :woot:
But, when he does, he's busy trying to take down the mob.

Luthor has some nefarious plot in the works that seemingly has ties to the Watchmen stuff...

The Legion of Superheroes are doing their own thing in the future...

Mordru has arrived in this dimension and is out exploring...

I know I forgot some stuff, so others can fill in the blanks or elaborate for you if they wish.

Hmm, good to know. I just wanted to get an idea of who might be taken before I start thinking about which character I'm going to choose.

Well, while the roster is not up to date, MB has a rule that the previous UDC RPG did not have (to eliminate the past issues of retcons): if someone has at least 1 IC post for a character, the history for that character that has been established via the poster's application has to stick around should that poster drop them right away and a new poster want to pick up that character.

So, even if you see people on that old roster, and want to play them, just ask around for what their current set up origin is and see if it is something you want to work with or not.

Ultimate Fables, A Brief History ~

Existing in a separate dimension are all the characters of folklore and the myths. Called the Homelands, this mythical place is a virtually endless land of vast landscapes, brimming with magic and wonder. But the Fables world is suddenly turned on it's head as a massive army of storybook monsters arrive from across the Western Sea and begin conquering the Homelands. Led by a being known as the Adversary, the evil Empire seems unstoppable. The Fables band together, mounting what they can for a defensive, but their army is quickly wiped out. As the Adversary's armies march forward rounding up Fables as slaves and killing the rest, the Fables come to a drastic conclusion. They have to leave the Homelands behind.

Using the powers of the surviving warlocks and witches, the Fables create hidden portals across the Homelands. Portals that lead to the our reality. One by one they flee the Homelands, taking refuge in a small, closely-guarded community in New York City they call Fabletown. Run by Mayor King Cole, the Fables of Fabletown live in peace with the world around them, governing themselves and staying hidden by powerful magicks.

.Screen name: Johnny Blaze

.Character you wish to portray: Bigby Wolf

.Hero, villain, or walking the line?: Hero

.Powers and physical attributes: In his wolf form, Bigby is massive, shown to be considerably taller than a human being, and at times substantially larger that that as well. In this form, he can carry people with no apparent stress and is a formidable fighter. All other wolves defer to him and call him "The Lord of Wolves". His mixed ancestry gives him the ability to blow massive gusts of wind (the "huff 'n' puff" of the Three Little Pigs story) and can also briefly command local winds to do his bidding. Bigby can drown but he is able to hold his breath for an extremely long time; it has been shown that he can hold his breath for three weeks straight. He also swam across the Bering Strait without getting cold (he even referred to it as "an enjoyable swim.") Every one of his senses is far above the normal human ability. He is also extremely quick to heal, and cannot be killed by conventional weapons. He can, however, be slain by silver or fire. As a Fable, he does not age.

In addition to his wolf and human forms, Bigby can enter an intermediate form similar to the wolfman of legend. In this form he possesses great strength, rapid healing, and the claws and teeth of a wolf.

Because of his extraordinary senses, Bigby is able to pick up on the emotions of thousands of nearby strangers, to the extent that he smokes cigarettes constantly in order to drown them out. The only one whom he cannot drown out, or tune out, is Snow White. Due to his rapid hair growth, he has to shave several times a day.

(From Wikipedia)

.Origin and backstory (as you see it):

Bigby Wolf, aka the Big Bad Wolf, is a powerful and ancient Fable. Known for his vicious demeanor and insatiable appetite for flesh, Bigby is one of the most feared Fables in existence.
The son of the North Wind, Bigby was a powerful terror since birth, hunting and killing anything in his father's kingdom. Displeased with his son's animalistic nature, the North Wind exiled him to the deep forests of the Homelands to live as he acted.
Here Bigby's reign of terror began with events such as the hunting and killing of the three pigs, to the stalking of Red Riding Hood. For centuries, Bigby preyed upon those foolish enough to enter his domain, devouring taunting them and instilling true fear before devouring them whole. All the while, Bigby felt nothing but pain and anger towards his father whom abandoned him. One day, the Big Bad Wolf was approached by an agent of the Adversary with an offer: join forces with his armies and be granted great gifts and riches beyond his wildest dreams. Bigby accepted, but refused the wealth. All he wanted was the chance to kill his father who cast him out centuries ago.

Given the ability to transform into a man, Bigby became a notorious huntsman for the Adversary, rounding up hundreds of Fables and slaughtering countless others. All the while he did his job with the notion that, one day, he'd sink his teeth into the North Wind's neck. One day though, all that changed. Shadowing a group of Fable refugees who were attempting to flee, Bigby caught the sight of Snow White. Her beauty and scent were intoxicating to Bigby, and his icy heart slowly began to thaw. He followed Snow White's group along their way, even going out of his way to kill game for them, placing it along their path to find so they wouldn't starve.

One day, Snow White and her fellow Fables were ambushed by the Adversary's legions. Caught in a crisis of conscious that he never thought he'd ever have to worry about, Bigby chose to break his ties with the Adversary and saved the Fables. Despite saving their lives, the Fables were terrified of him and wanted nothing to do with Bigby, the Adversary's hunter. Bigby was silently cursing himself for being so stupid when Snow White walked up to him and smiled. Thanking him for what he did, she kissed him on the top of his head before running off, leading the surviving refugees to the nearby portal.

No longer driven by hate and anger, Bigby went about hunting down and killing the Adversary's soldiers wherever he found them and helping hundreds of Fables to escape the Homelands. He became a terror to the enemy, the unseen marauder who could strike from anywhere and at anytime. Even the Big Bad Wolf was unable to help stem the tide of the Adversary's legions, and Bigby was forced on the run. Not knowing the location of the hidden Fable portals, Bigby resigned himself to his imminent demise, determined to take as many of the Adversary's troops down with him.

It was then that a young blond man dressed in blue appeared before him. Introducing himself as Boy Blue, the Fable told Bigby that he had made up for his crimes against his own kind enough to be allowed a passage to freedom. If he accepted, he would be given a fresh start in Fabletown as the Sheriff and Chief of Intelligence. Bigby first was skeptical of the offer, even ready to turn it down due to feeling that he didn't deserve it. But when Blue said that it was from Snow White, Bigby eventually accepted. Following Boy Blue to the portal, Bigby escaped to the Mundane World.

Now the sheriff of Fabletown, Bigby is in charge of all problems in the small, tight-nit community, as well as the extensive intelligence network that the Fables have set up around the globe, as well as the Homelands. Bigby has slowly gained the respect of his fellow Fables whom he polices with an fair brand of justice, though many are still fearful of him given his past as a murderous monster.

.The burning question - Why this character?: I'm a colossal Fables fan, and this is probably the only chance I'll ever get to bring them into an RPG.

.How will this version of your character differ from others? How will it be Ultimate?: Little tweaks in the origin, such as this Bigby being a agent of the Adversary originally, and his falling out with his father.

.What do you believe you can bring to the RPG?: Fables, and experience in RPing.

.Provide a sample post as the character you wish to portray, in three paragraphs or more:

Bigby took a drag from his smoke as he squinted in the sunlight. A cool breeze was blowing in from the North, dancing across the tree branches of the surrounding wood and sending a menagerie of scents Bigby's way. He took another puff of his smoke, exhaling through his nose as he tried to drown the smells out.

Shutting the car door behind him, Bigby started walked, hands in his coat pockets, towards the jittery person in the large green field ahead of him.

"Sheriff! Sheriff! Over here", the lanky man waved excitedly.

Bigby rolled his eyes and sighed as he came up to the lanky man.

"Calm down, Scarecrow. Tell me what happened", he asked as he flicked his cigarette out and reached in his coat pocket to pull out a new one.

"I was-I mean I-oh jeez", the Scarecrow stammered, a grave look on his face.

"Easy, Straw Man", Bigby growled.
"Settle it down and spit it out. What. Happened."

The Scarecrow swallowed the knot in his throat and started to relax a bit.
"I...I was going for my morning walk through the corn fields. They help calm me down, you know. I find the husks very therapeutic and-"

"Get to it already!"

"Sorry. I was walking through the cornfield when I saw a bunch of buzzards circling in the air. I was curious, so I went to investigate."

"That's when I saw it", he whimpered.
"His dead body..."

THE NEW ULTIMATE DC RPG .
Character Application

.Screen name: Trigger

.Character you wish to portray: Mister Miracle (Scott Free)

.Hero, villain, or walking the line?:Walking the Line

.Powers and physical attributes: Mister Miracle is a trained gymnast and has a knack for escaping from difficult situations. In addition he is also trained in the use of small and heavy fire arms and boasts above human strength and agility. Mister Miracle also uses a Father Box to communicate with his squad mates and superiors. The Father Box also keeps watch of Scott’s current condition and gives him access to any necessary data.

.Origin and back story (as you see it): Scott Free was born in a small town somewhere in Iowa to Dr. Isaiah Free and his wife Avia. His parents had many hopes for the young infant. They wanted him to be a doctor like his father or become a painter like his mother. All that changed when they were fatally hit by a drunk driver. Instead he has become a soldier. He is a faceless warrior among many in the Novus Deus program. He and many other young orphans were gathered from across the country to become skilled mercenaries for hire by Genesis Corporations. As a child he’s been told not to question his employer, not to stray from his mission, and most importantly to never act out of line. However Scott can’t help, but yearn for more. Scott wants a life outside the shadowy halls of Genisis corporation’s buildings. However what prices will he pay to regain his freedom? What secrets will he uncover in the process?

.The burning question - Why this character?: I wanted to pick someone that hasn’t been used but has a rich background full of great characters and stories. I couldn’t decide who to choose until I saw a copy of an anthology book filled with stories with characters from the New Gods Universe.

.How will this version of your character differ from others? How will it be Ultimate?: As I hinted in character’s back story, I will be taking a slightly more “realistic” approach on the New Gods Universe. The stories with my Mister Miracle will be more about the meaningful character interaction, but I will still try to incorporate the more fantastical characters in his universe in interesting ways that suit the more 21st concepts that the Ultimate Dc is based off of.

.What do you believe you can bring to the RPG?: Hopefully I will bring some good story telling and maybe a sense of humor? I won’t lie, I haven’t thought too far outside of my first introductory arc so it’s hard to say exactly where the story will go. I want to really play with themes of morality and family.

.Provide a sample post as the character you wish to portray, in three paragraphs or more:

“P-please! I have a family! I-I can pay you double whatever they’ve offered you…!”

POP

People think that a gunshot is a loud bang, but it isn’t. When a gun is fired it’s a quick popping noise. Scott had heard his first gunshot when he was seven years old. He had struggled with the small firearm then, but now his pistol felt like another limb on his body. To fire it felt natural. These days it seemed like the aftermath of firing that pistol were all that bothered him.

Huddled on the floor a few yards in front of Scott was what was left of Aaban Ebrahimi. Scott’s team, Alpha Four, was sent to his plush upper east side estate to assasinate him. Before being dispatched Alpha Four was given every bit of necessary information on the target by the Grandmother Box. He was forty-seven years old. He was slightly under weight and had four gaurds posted on the inside of his home. Today he would be alone and would have only two of his guards inside the home. The other two would be posted outside. When Alpha Four killed the guards and closed in on him, they found Aaban alone in his master suite waiting for someone in his silk pajamas.

Alpha Four was never told about his family. They were never told anything that the Grandmother Box deemed inconsequential. Was Aaban expecting his wife? Did he divide his security in half to give him and that woman privacy? Or did he have a mistress? The Alpha Four team hadn’t even been told why they were killing him. Did he deserve to die? Or was all that truly inconsequential?

“Scott! Do you plan on staring at him all day or are we going to continue the mission? We were supposed to be leaving by now! We’re two minutes and fifteen seconds off schedule!”

Scott’s gaze moved to the hooded figure standing next to Aaban. Kanto’s slight figure was indistinguishable from the other shadows in the master suite. He tapped his foot impatiently . Scott tried to respond, but struggled to find his voice.

“Hm? Forgot didn’t you? Provision Nine of the Mission Objective Outline required that we remove a body part from the target as proof of the elimination, and we can’t leave bullets in the corpse! You’re getting sloppy Scott! Grandmother Box is going to deduct points from our mission review analysis. If only you hadn’t let him see you. Why didn’t you just neutralize him from afar?”

“I….I don’t know.”

Scott knew perfectly well that Granny Box was going to deduct points from the mission review for his sloppiness and that meant no warm water for the team this week. He knew that targets should never see them, but some odd curiosity arose in Scott. He wanted to know everything that the report hadn’t told him. He wanted to see everything that his superiors hadn’t taught him. Scott wanted to see how a normal person lived.

Scott walked slowly towards Aaban’s corpse and dug out the bullet he had lodged in the man’s chest. Kanto quickly removed Aaban’s ear and pocketed in a small plastic bag with ease. Kanto had always been like that. He moved less like a person and more like a machine. Scott knew that Kanto was trained in melee and stealth manueavers, but he was always surprised at how easily he handled their objectives. Was that the correct way to behave in these situations?

Scott pondered that as he and Kanto quickly exited out the back window and signaled their other squad mates to abandon their positions. Alpha Four moved deftly through the estate’s backyard and easily slipped into the gardener’s shed where their boom tube was concealed. The boom tubes were large tubes that could hold up to eight adults and moved the squads back and forth from the Genesis Corporation’s headquaters to any given location on Earth. There were no windows in the boomtube, and it was sound proof. However as he entered and took his place with the rest of Alpha Four, Scott thought he could hear a muffled woman’s scream from afar. Was that the Ebrahimi family? Did a wife find her husband dead? Or did a daughter just discover her dead father? Scott couldn’t understand why this mattered. He couldn’t fathom the lump in his throat either. The thoughts and scenarios entering his head seemed foreign to him. If only he hadn’t met Metron……

Blacklight

With Karem-Knight's approval, I present this application:

. THE NEW ULTIMATE DC RPG .
Character Application

.Screen name: Blacklight

.Character you wish to portray: Dick Grayson/Robin

.Hero, villain, or walking the line?: Walking the Line

.Powers and physical attributes: He's a skilled fighter and has good reflexes, agility and athleticism. Other than that and an above-average intellect, no abilities.

.Origin and backstory (as you see it):
As created by Byrd and Karem-Knight:

Richard John Grayson was a normal child, growing up in Bludhaven, the suburbs of Gotham City, with his parents John Grayson and Mary Grayson.

Dick was bullied on at school very frequently, despite having a happy home life. His father, a cop for the Gotham City Police Department, took Dick to a martial arts class to learn to defend himself- next time someone tried to pick on him, Dick ended up breaking and dislodging his arm.

After that? Everyone left him alone. His happiness was short-lived, however, as on his tenth birthday his mother received news of breast cancer and died a few months afterwards.

Secretly, unbeknownst to Dick, his father also was in an alliance. Consisting of Lieutenant James Gordon with the vigilante known as The Batman. Their goal: Taking down mob boss Tony Zucco.

Their alliance made great strides in dismantling Zucco's organization, especially when John went undercover. His cover being an enforcer looking to be in on Zucco's game. This was until Zucco found out there was a cop in his midst, and his men pointed him in Grayson's direction. All which led to John's untimely death.

This, in combination with his mother's succumbing to cancer, weighed very heavily on Dick. So much that he became a very angry, bitter child.

Dick then continued to live in an orphanage in downtown Gotham City, living alone in solitude and greiving the murders of his parents. Especially his father, to the point where he swore revenge against the one person that he, as well as everyone else in the city, thinks killed his father: Batman.

Dick then was adopted by billionaire playboy and philanthropist Bruce Wayne, and currently lives in Wayne Manor. Despite this and the fact that he's lived there for days, he has yet to actually meet Bruce Wayne. A fact that has him (and in the case of us RPers, not so-) baffled.

.The burning question - Why this character?: Robin is a personal favorite, and I've wanted to play him for a long time. And now that Karem has given me the okay, I may finally get my chance.

.How will this version of your character differ from others? How will it be Ultimate?: Firstly, this version of Robin (as you will tell by his costume) is going to be what I call "an amalgamation of the major Robins, past and present". Meaning he will be a combination of the Dick Grayson (both his Robin and Nightwing personas), Tim Drake and Damian Wayne versions of Robin. He'll be witty and athletic like Dick, smart and strategic like Tim, as well as angry and brooding like Damian.

Secondly, this Robin is FAR from becoming Batman's sidekick like he was in the comics, as this Robin views Batman as his mortal enemy and his father's killer, and as such, is going to be one of Batman's many adversaries.

.What do you believe you can bring to the RPG?: Hopefully a new and fresh take on the Boy Wonder, and hopefully to get MB off his ass and start posting.:cwink::cmad:

.Provide a sample post as the character you wish to portray, in three paragraphs or more:

"Is there anything else, Doctor?"

"Well, I would like to discuss your obsession with the Batm--"

"IS there anything ELSE, Dr. Thompkins!?"

"No... I think that's enough for today's session, Richard."

Good. I was waiting for this crappy therapy session to be over. With that final note I took my leave. "Best therapist in Gotham City" she said... Bah. Leslie Thompkins is a hack. Because if she wasn't? She'd realise by now how I DON'T need therapy.

No, what I need is something different. Something that'll satisfy my need for vengeance. Yeah. What I need...

...is a way to kill Batman.

If not for me, then for my father. After all, it was Batman that took him from me. That's why I'm going to do it. I'll find a way.

"I swear it..."

Hmm. Your backstory is a bit off from the Ult. Grayson we've established so far.

Dick wasn't adopted by Bruce, instead his maid Harriet Cooper adopted him. They leave in Wayne Tower with Bruce and Alfred, Wayne Manor doesn't really exist in UDC. Also, Batman and John Grayson were in an alliance of just the two of them.

Gordon, who is already the commish, hates Batman and would sooner arrest him than join forces with him.

God, I hope you didn't get all that info from my app.

Anyway, that aside, you're approved.

Just a quick bit of emphasis on why I'm kissing this beautiful ****er's ass at the moment...

What I just threw up was not quite the comeback post I had in mind, but hell, anything to get me back into the swing would have been great at this point. I had written that bit up as a practice for a different storyline entirely. Funnily enough, I was never going to post it at all... but JB's scenario was just too ****ing perfect for what I had written there. So chalk this one up to circumstance and opportunity.

And for those that are depending on it, once I work out where we're going from here, I'll acknowledge what happened to Bruce at the Circus. I haven't forgotten.

I should have a Superman post up either tonight or tomorrow (most likely tomorrow). The past two weeks have been utter hell at school. I was actually kicked out of one of my Drama classes yesterday after not being able to stay awake because I've been forced to pull off too many all-nighters.

EDIT: I'm gonna copy and paste this into the OOC threads of the other games I'm in, since I plan on IC posting in them ASAP too.

Now that Bane knows who Batman is, I'm thinking of kicking his story a little more into gear. That means that I'll probably want to talk to anyone who is working on stories involving the crime families of Gotham. Now that Black Mask is dead, Roman's gang seems like a ripe target for Bane to focus on before he moves to expand his operation even more. Anybody who's working on the mob angles in Gotham, can we talk on MSN some time and work out a story?

.Character you wish to portray: Booster Gold (Michael Jon Carter)

.Hero, villain, or walking the line?: Hero

.Powers and physical attributes: Booster possesses a suit from the 23rd Century, that gives him enhanced strength, flight, power blasts, energy shields and the ability to travel through time.

.Origin and backstory (as you see it): Michael Jon Carter was a star runner for Metropolis University, nicknamed Booster for his speed.

<S.K.E.E.T.S ONLINE>

<ACTIVATING EMERGENCY PROTOCOL 1>

Before I know it, everything around me warps and I can see nothing as the cupboard disappears and all the world around me goes silent.

Okay, with the current state of the Legion being solely myself and Byrd, we are pulling the plug on it. It's just not much fun RPing a big group like the Legion with only 2 PC members.
We're leaving them back at their HQ, so that if anyone is interested in picking them up down the road, they can do so without much hassle.

So, with Garth gone, I've got another character in mind for a 3rd and will have an app up shortly.

.Character you wish to portray: Richard "The Dragon" Yuanjia, a.k.a. Richard Dragon

.Hero, villain, or walking the line?: Villain

.Powers and physical attributes: None; The Dragon is a powerful Triad boss, with access to a good amount of resources. Richard is a master martial artists, one of the best in the world, who keeps himself in top physical condition. The Dragon is a highly skilled tactician, and, despite his ruthless demeanor, possesses an almost calm presence in even the most intense of situations.

.Origin and backstory (as you see it): The son of a Triad crime lord in Hong Kong, Richard Yuanjia grew up into the hard lifestyle of organized crime in China. His father thought the world of his only son, and so, since he was old enough to stand, he was trained in the martial arts. Richard's intelligence and learning ability became apparent early on, as did the cold, calculated ruthlessness he displayed as he proved himself to his father and his Triad brothers as he started out as a common enforcer, despite his pedigree.

Richard was brutal in carrying out his father's orders, often making bloody examples from those who crossed his family. His cold-blooded reputation and martial arts mastery soon spread throughout the Chinese underground, earning himself the nickname, The Dragon.
Richard eventually made his way up the ranks to serve directly under his father as his Deputy. With business growing stagnant in Hong Kong and China, Richard's father had ideas to move his operations to the United States. But there were those under him who didn't approve of that plan, thinking it was a sign of weakness to leave China. Some of the captains tried to take control of the Triad, and killed Richard's father.

Enraged at their treachery, the Dragon went on a killing spree, taking command of those who remained loyal to his father's Triad and viciously murdering those who had a hand in his father's death. Finally, when their Triad's civil war ended, Richard Dragon emerged the victor and fully took control of all of his father's dealings. Realizing his father's dream, Richard Yuanjia has moved his operation into Gotham city, but still maintains a presence in Hong Kong.

The Dragon's Triad has been silent since coming into the city only three weeks ago, spending that time gathering information on their new rivals as well as quietly settling in Gotham's Chinatown, right under the Maroni family's nose. It won't be long before Richard makes his presence known to the rest of Gotham's crime families. And when he does, they will come to learn why they call him The Dragon...

.The burning question - Why this character?: I'm a martial arts fanboy, and I wanted to play a villainous martial arts master.

.How will this version of your character differ from others? How will it be Ultimate?: He'll be Chinese, for one. And a villainous crime lord, for two.

.What do you believe you can bring to the RPG?: Experience in RPing.

.Provide a sample post as the character you wish to portray, in three paragraphs or more:

The Dragon stood on the roof of the restaurant, the noise from the busy Chinatown streets below echoing across the tightly packed buildings. He had been in the States for twenty-four days now, all within the city of Gotham.

Richard sighed, Gotham City...he did not think that a city as corrupt and Hong Kong could exist, but he was surprisingly proven wrong. This city was infested with dozens of different criminal organizations, all vying for power anyway they could get it. Gotham lacked the organized chaos of Hong Kong, but that didn't bother the Dragon.
It was just a minor nuisance he had to deal with, nothing more.

"Master Yuanjia", a voice from behind him called politely.

"Yes, Rabbit", Richard asked as he turned to meet eyes with one of his top level enforcers.
Rabbit, like his eleven brothers, were each given names corresponding with the Chinese zodiac by their late father. Called the Twelve Brothers in Silk for the silken Wushu robes they wore, Rabbit and his brothers were each of them masters in the martial arts. Together, they were one of the deadliest forces in all of the East. And now the West would soon learn of the formidable might of the Twelve as the Yuanjia Triad began to sink it's teeth into Gotham's underbelly.

"Our spies report that the Jew has arrived."

"Really", the Dragon smiled.
"I think we've waited long enough. Gather the men...it's time we show Maroni that he is no longer welcome in Chinatown."

Got a replacement for Brainy

Screen name: Byrd Man

Character you wish to portray: Det. Victor Sage/The Question

Hero, villain, or walking the line?: Hero

Powers and physical attributes: No powers, but Sage has a keen detective mind and is skilled at Martial Arts.

Origin and backstory (as you see it):

A cop that's been through the rough patch for his job. He signed up to the GCPD to do the proper thing, only to walk in on corruption after corruption after corruption. He got married to a beautiful woman, but she didn't realise he was married to the job beforehand. She divorced him when he got in so deep that she only saw him at breakfast as a hopeless slump of a man. He'd made himself invest so hard in the job because he had to pick up all the slack from the corrupt cops. He knew there were good men in the force, but there were so little of them compared to the many corrupt that he couldn't stand it. He knew he had to go beyond the law. He found himself with a murder case, which couldn't be solved by any lawful means. When he dragged in the suspects their allies in the force dragged them right back out. He waited till dark, using a balaclava to hide himself, and broke into the suspect's house and beat the answers out of him. The suspect handed himself in the next day. Sage had beaten corruption, and took it upon himself to continue the mission, to win every case, lawful or not. The next day he broke into Star Labs, hoping to find something to aide his crusade. Inside, he found a prosthetic skin, that could bind to your face with the addition of a gas. He stole as much as the gas as possible and took the prosthetic, making himself a new identity. He was The Question.

I will expand on that some too.

The burning question - Why this character?: The Question is a character I've always been interested in and I have some ideas for some stuff he can do. That and he can play into a storyline I have going with Nygma.

How will this version of your character differ from others? How will it be Ultimate?: This version of Q is a cop, not a journalist. Plus, his battle against the corrupt members of the GCPD has left him jaded and on the verge of burn out.

What do you believe you can bring to the RPG?: Decent RPer with experience

Provide a sample post as the character you wish to portray, in three paragraphs or more:

"Should we run it on him?" I say to Cris as we stand outside the interrogation room's sweat box.

Since his transfer into Homicide five years ago, Crispus Allen has been my partner and is one of the few men I know I can trust.

"I don't know, Vic. This guy ain't a dummy."

"If he was so smart, he'd have lawyered up a long time ago."

Cris shrugs and takes a drag off his smoke. "What the hell? Let's burn him."

I hang back as he goes into the sweatbox and takes the man out.

William Matthew Stephens, age 22 and the lead suspect on a triple homicide Cris and I have worked for three weeks.

While Cris explains what's going to happen, I go into the squadroom's break room and slide paper into the copy machine. Like always, two true and one false.

Fields pokes his head into the door and laughs. "I can't believe this still works."

"Believe it, baby. Put on these glasses, professor."

By the time Cris leads Stephens into the room. Charlie has on a pair of fake reading glasses and is studying the copy machine intently.

"Mister Stephens, this is the Truth-o-Matic 3000. Now, before we begin. Are you sure of your statement that said you were nowhere near 650 Adams Avenue on the night of October 10th?"

"Y-yeah..."

Cris nods at Fields. "I think we're ready, Professor."

Cris places Stephens' hand inside the copy machine and I begin.

"Is your name William Matthew Stephens?"

"Yes."

Fields hits the button and Cris checks the paper tray. He holds up a white sheet with the words "TRUE" written on it.

"Do you reside at 1102 Kane Street?"

"Yes."

Fields hits the button again, another "TRUE" comes out.

"Did you kill Bill Albright and his two associates on the night of October 10th?"

"N-...No!"

Charlie hits the scan button and Cris chuckles as he checks the tray.

"False. You lying piece of crap."

"No!"

Fields looks at Stephens over his fake reading glasses. "The machine doesn't lie, son."

With his free hand, Stephens wipes sweat off his brow.

"Okay. Okay. I helped rob Billy and his buddies. Okay, it was Rob who killed them. Rob Evans! I know where he lives!"

I smile as I look at Cris and nod.

This case is down.

. THE NEW ULTIMATE DC RPG .
Character Application

.Screen name: Batman

.Character you wish to portray: J'onn J'onnz - The Martian Manhunter

.Hero, villain, or walking the line?: Walking The Line

.Powers and physical attributes: Superhuman strength, speed, durability, flight, telekeniesis, tangibility, and the ability to shape-shift. Martians as a species cannot age, either, so J'onn could be close to anywhere between one hundred and five thousand years old.

.Origin and backstory (as you see it): Born as a Martian, J'onn J'onnz was apart of an ancient
race of peace that populated the red planet of Mars. But such peace was short-lived, as tensions grew with the continuing debate between religion and science. When the war between Martian civilization grew hostile, J'onn became the forefront leader for retalliation, and was instantly labelled a war criminal for his subsequent acts of extremism. It was not until J'onn's own wife and child were killed in the conflict that a grief-ridden J'onn surrendered himself to the high council of Mars. Banished from his homeworld as an act of absolute punishment, J'onn was left to drift through space until he could find a new home. Using his telepathy, he settled himself on the planet Earth, studying the world's customs and species over a period of several hundred years. Posing as a human being, J'onn became John Jones, and quietly began a simple life in the city of New York.

But his secrecy amongst civilization would not last. Discovered by the secret organization C.A.D.M.U.S, J'onn was immediately captured and evaluated through various scientists and psychologists, working to discover his intentions. When they realized he posed no threat, they decided that his unusual talents would benefit their cause: to find and capture the blossoming number of metahumans appearing throughout the world. J'onn agreed to become their agent, but only to maintain a life of secrecy, after being threatened to be exposed to the world at large. Now, J'onn is a top ranking agent in the organization's ranks, and known only to few as a fabled metahuman hunter dubbed The Martian Manhunter.

.The burning question - Why this character?: A couple of obvious reasons. For one, he's the only original member of The Justice League to never be introduced in this game. Secondly, I came up with the premise for an Ultimate MM back when the game began, but never got around to applying due to a poor record of posting. Now that I'm feeling better about it, I want to see what I can do with this. And thirdly, he's one of my favorite DC characters.

.How will this version of your character differ from others? How will it be Ultimate?: Well, the J'onn of the comic books was more of a peace bringer. Literally, everything about the character lent itself to the idea that J'onn is a character who's not inherently hostile. This version of J'onn is different: He's very much trying to pull himself away from the darker soul he once was, but apart of that still lingers within him. I also think that the idea of him being an agent for a faction of the government makes more sense than seeing him decide to become a superhero. While he may one day become that, it'll be far more of a progression than what's ever been depicted with the character.

.What do you believe you can bring to the RPG?: My main goal with the character is interacting with others, so I want to bring in someone that can easily pop up here and there with a simple excuse for doing so, while establishing a founding character in the RPG.

.Provide a sample post as the character you wish to portray, in three paragraphs or more:

"Target sighted, M2. Ready to roll?"

The creature's crimson eyes merely opened, in response to the faint question. It had already known where the target in question was, long before any of it's fellow C.A.D.M.U.S agents had pinpointed his location. The creature simply did not choose to inform them, mainly for reasons of it's own. In truth, the person they were looking for wasn't even any real danger to anyone... but such a minor detail did not matter to it's superiors. They only wanted to subject to be captured.

And indeed he would be.

Phasing from it's invisible form, the skies of New Mexico were now inhabitant with the one called The Martian Manhunter. Silently hovering high above the small town that hid the objective, J'onn closed his eyes once more, and focused on each lifeform in the area. Every beat of their heart, every breath of their lungs... even their very DNA structure was seen within his mind's eye in an instant, through an ancient Martian form of telepathy. He could hear their every thought, aswell. And like many of the humans he encountered, such thoughts were insignificant. He only sought the essential whisper among the flock...

"... -onder if my kids are in the-..."

"... -ammit, Jean, why'd you have to sign those divorce pap-..."

"...-ommy! Where's mommy?! Why isn't she-..."

"...-ope to hell that call was just a threat, not an actual-..."

J'onn's eyes re-opened. And in an instant, he was gone. Flying through the air, at supersonic speeds, heading directly towards the objective's location. Even his fellow agents were amazed at how powerful The Martian seemed to be becoming each and every day. J'onn simply focused, and phased through the buildings below, locking directly onto his target. He shall not escape me. No man shall ever escape me.

Appearing through the wall of the target's home, J'onn rendered himself invisible as the man entered his bedroom in a panic, carrying an empty suitcase. His wife followed him, evidently in tears as her husband began to pack his clothes.

"Steve! Steve, talk to me! What's going on?!", She screamed.

The husband spun around, grabbing his wife's shoulders. "There's no time for that! Listen to me! You need to get the kids! Head out to the car and drive as far away from here as possible, alright?!"

"Why?!", She demanded. "What's this all about?!"

With unmistakable dread in his voice, the man looked off. "T-They're coming for me."

"Who?!"

"People. Dangerous people, alright? People who might be looking to..."

The husband resumed packing. "Look, just get the kids out of here! I don't want them to get caught up in this!"

"Steve...!"

"GO! GO NOW!"

The wife, taken aback, instantly complied and ran out of the room, heading for her kids. Before he could even turn around, J'onn had rendered himself visible once more, appearing behind the target out of thin air. The man spun around, wide-eyed at the sight before him.

"Steven Miller. You are wanted by Cadmus for questioning."

"Holy-...!"

Instinctively, the man raised his hands and looked away. But nothing happened. He looked back, staring at his hands in confusion. J'onn narrowed his gaze.

"Your inherent energy reserves would not have affected me,", The Manhunter coldly replied. "I have disabled your use of them through a telepathic hold on your mind."

The metahuman's jaw dropped, as J'onn was instantly upon him, grabbing him with an iron-grip force that only further surprised his captive.

"No! Please! Please, I... I didn't do anything wrong!", The man pleaded. "Don't kill me, please!"

J'onn looked back, unmoved, nor with any emotion at all. He simply replied in honesty.

"Your evident stress is unnecessary, metahuman. I do not live to kill," , He began, before flying the both of them through and out of the home's roof, leaving no trace of their existence whatsoever as they vanished within the night's sky.

"I only live to hunt."

WWS? stands for Why So Serious?, a Gotham-based RPG that didn't last on the Hype.

Huh. Then it really is ironic that our RPG features so many Gotham-based characters. I feel so in the loop now.

Verily. Although really, the first UDC game was pretty much just Ultimate Gotham most of the time anyway.

Normally I'd try not to use that many pics in an IC post (especially when one of those pics is a full page scan that I didn't have the heart to crop into pieces, since it goes so well as a whole), but I've built up such a huge arsenal of Bane pics, and a number of them would perfectly compliment a post where Bane has a nightmare, so I couldn't pass up an opportunity to use those ones in particular. Ta-daa!

. THE NEW ULTIMATE DC RPG .
Character Application

.Screen name: Syn

.Character you wish to portray: Jason Todd, Red Hood

.Hero, villain, or walking the line?: Hero

.Powers and physical attributes: Skilled Martial artist, peak human physical condition, access to various chemicals and medicines, expert psychologist, and anything else I forgot from my first app.

.Origin and backstory (as you see it): Crippled. Mentally distraught. Helpless. :ninja:

.The burning question - Why this character?: What do the effects of stress and physical/emotional pain have on the human mind? Let's find out. :awesome:

.How will this version of your character differ from others? How will it be Ultimate?: He's not a whiny cry baby teenager, he's an adult who works at Arkham Asylum as a Psychiatrist. Currently he dates Dr. Harleen Quinzel, his associate and another Psychiatrist at Arkham. Todd spends his nights moonlighting as a vigilante wearing a Red Hood and carrying various equipment he's either made or bought to help him in his endeavor.

.What do you believe you can bring to the RPG?: Psychological mind****s.

.Provide a sample post as the character you wish to portray, in three paragraphs or more:

I lie still in my hospital bed at Gotham General staring aimlessly about the room. Looking to my hand, I glance upon the white tape strapped around my hand holding the IV in place. The tube burns as it rests inside my vein, acting like a parasite trying to gain entry into my body. The liquid drains into my body slowly, the cool feeling of the solution mixing with the warm blood beneath my skin. My fingers twing, sporadically dancing in short, quick spasms. The painkillers must be wearing off - I'm more conscious then I'd like to be.

Blinking my eyes slowly I lean my head back against the soft pillow. As my hair ruffles against the pillowcase, I feel pangs throughout my scalp, a lingering reminder of the concussion. The blinds drawn at the edge of the room tap against the wall in a rhythmic rapping. Each time the plastic hits the wall I cringe, the quiet sound feeling like a gunshot in my ears. I'm sensitive to everything, now. How ironic...

As I take in deep breaths I try to close my eyes for just a second, hoping to get some kind of relief in the black void of my mind. I think back, referring to my latest memories. "Come on..." I whisper to myself. "Think. What... happened?"

As I focus, my muscles tense and I grit my teeth, unaware. I begin to hear the voices in my head of those I know, the latest playback of their words.

"Mr. Todd, you'll need to sit up now, the doctor's going to check your pupils."

"I found you in Gotham University Science labs - you were wearing your costume."

"My word, what happened to him?"
"Ash seared on his clothes and skin, cloudy irises, bruises head to toe and unresponsive demeanor. ... I'd say a hell of a night."

"Breathing, check his breathing!"
"He's fading, again-"
"Dammit, bring him back! CLEAR!"

"Save it for later. Now breath in. Breath out."

"...burn it. Burn it all..."

I spring forward in a gasping breath, a scream smothered by my own fear. As sweat drips from my brow I heavily breath, exhaling in long moans with quick inhales in between. As I gain control of myself I think back to the voice...that last sentence spoken in my mind. "Cold," I say, catching my breath. "Heartless and evil..." I close my eyes and swallow what feels like a rock down my throat. Even that hurts.

Gripping the railing on the sides of the bed I slowly lower myself onto the pillows at my back. As I roll my head onto the pillow once more, I twitch, the pain coming back as I return to consciousness. I hear the voice once more, echoing it in my mind as the sounds of fire begin to crackle with it. "Burn it." I say, repeating it slowly. "Burn it...all."

Suddenly the sound of a loud buzz startles me from my focus and I jump in my bed. As my body hits the soft mattress I shut my eyelids tight in pain. "Alright...that's getting old," I joke, hoping to quell some of the sensation. As I open my eyes I hear the buzz again, this time ready for it as if by habit. I look to my side and see the source of the rumbling, my cellphone dancing as it vibrates atop the table next to my bed. I carefully reach over and grab it, flipping it open to see who could be calling.

As my finger open the device I read the alert at the center of the illuminating screen, 'incoming call from Harley'. I cock my head back and let out a heavy sigh, my whole body going limp. I look back down to the screen to see the alert, reading the words of the name I used to read with a smile. My finger flips the phone shut and I toss it onto the table, the phone making a thud as it hits the hard plastic surface. "Guess I'm not sensitive to everything," I say under my breath with remorse.

Resting my head I ignore the buzz and try to fade into sleep. I pushout all the commotion and distractions of the room, focusing on nothing but my memories - my mind. The voice replays in my head once more and I try to pick it apart, disecting the audio reccollection as if I were a doctor at an autopsy. "The voice..." I breath, "the fire..." I force myself as hard as I can to remember anything else, pushing myself to the brink. As I ball my hands to fists something happens, a quick flash of something new. A wide grin with devlish eyes only Satan himself could posses becomes visable, accompanied by a quick chuckle, no ... a laugh, a snicker from the pits of hell. I open my eyes wide and grunt, surprised by what I've conjured, perhaps contrived. "What the hell was that?" I snarl in rage, trying to drown out the fear beating every second in my heart. "...what happened to me. What happened?"

.Do you know how to post pictures on the Hype?: Yah, bro.

Okay, after three straight hours of reading the IC thread from beginning to end, I've compiled a list of important (or just outright DCU character) NPC's used since the game began, in order to show what is established in continuity thus far. It will be updated as the game continues, along with the rest of the UDC Index, in an effort to keep consistency between NPC usage.

I've also updated the Deceased Character list. If there's anyone that you guys want me to add/subtract from these lists, feel free to speak up.

So the upperclass neighborhood of Swan Heights was still blown up by Neutron, and Blackrock still believes that Superman intentionally didn't defend his family from Neutron and wants revenge, and he's probably in a prison somewhere getting therapy.

When I use those villains again, I'll try to quote or link to my old posts relating to the characters, just to firmly establish and/or refresh their history with Superman in this continuity for other players who might not be familiar with them.

Smaller things, like the fact that Blackrock met a pre-Cyborg Superman Hank Henshaw and a pre-Atomic Skull Joe Martin can be neglected since they were basically cameo appearances brought up in passing. Only the major things about Blackrock and Neutron's activities matter in this instance.

They're applicable. I just didn't remember if you had carried them over or not, with no reference in the IC thread to those encounters (They're referenced in your app, I see, so I totally had no excuse). Give me a sec, and I can add them now and quote their appearances in the former game.

. THE NEW ULTIMATE DC RPG .
Character Application

.Screen name: Eddie Brock

.Character you wish to portray: Harvey Dent, Gotham's District Attorney

.Hero, villain, or walking the line?: Hero

.Powers and physical attributes: None. Harvey possesses a quick mind and keen instinct, but that's about the extent of it. Otherwise, he's just a normal guy - trying to do what he thinks is best for his city.

.Origin and backstory (as you see it): Martha and Benjamin Dent had been prom king and queen. The pair were a happy couple, in love. They had met at the lighting of the Gotham Plaza Christmas tree in '59 and, shortly thereafter, went to college together. They were an inseparable and, eventually, had a child. Named for Martha's father, Harvey Forester Dent was born on March 12, 1979.

Having a child put a great amount of stress on the marriage of Martha and Benjamin. Fresh out of college, the pair were dealing with several things very quickly: marriage, a child, trying to put food on the table. Despite all of the hardships, though, the pair were entirely dedicated to each other. They did their best to give Harvey the best childhood they could. Slowly, but surely, Benjamin's career began to pick up steam. By the time that Harvey was 4, his father was a prominent partner Schutler, Dorian, and Shade, a Gotham law firm. Prosperity ensued for the family of three. Every summer brought a trip to DisneyWorld, every weekend brought a new toy, and each lazy summer afternoon brought about a visit to the ballpark.

In 1988, when Harvey was 7, his mother was diagnosed with goblet-cell carcinoma, a rare, incurable form of cancer. She endured a five-year long battle with the disease, traveling across the United States to find treatment. Benjamin even moved the family from the suburbs into the heart of Gotham City, in an effort to get Martha closer to Gotham General. Nothing proved helpful. Martha's body withered, her youth escaped her, and, after 5 years of fighting, she died, leaving Harvey and Benjamin alone with each other.

Benjamin was devastated. In the later stages of her illness, he had told his wife that he was "like a swan," because swans mate for life. So convinced was Benjamin that he could never love again, that he took every step to preserve Martha's place in the house. He didn't throw out her clothes, he bought piles and piles of art from artists she had loved in live, and put her picture on every wall of the house. In every sense of the word, Benjamin was living in the past.

Harvey began writing as a hobby. As the years passed, he grew more and more recognized for his abilities. This natural gift in the area of language arts lent itself to a unique ability to be a great public speaker. Harvey never shied away from a project or from a presentation. In the 7th grade, he was asked to join his school's mock trial team. Harvey's love of the spotlight flourished as he'd dress up in suits and ties and parade around court rooms, thrusting his finger in the faces of people portraying the defendants in the fictional cases. He would go on to win many awards through high school.

While Harvey flourished, his father stalled. Benjamin was forced to watch his son grow steadily more successful. Harvey participated in every sport he could, earned medals, and garnered accolades on the national level. Every university was begging for him to join their ranks. As a graduation gift, Benjamin gave Harvey his grandfather's two-headed coin. The coin belonged to Harvey's maternal grandfather and soon became a good luck charm for him. Since the day he was given it, Harvey kept his coin in his back pocket. The luck brought to him by the coin paid off, as he was being offered scholarships from top-tier universities and colleges across the United States and even abroad. Harvey accepted the offer from Harvard University. He submitted his acceptance letter on Halloween of 1994.

That night, Benjamin Dent put a gun in his mouth and pulled the trigger.

It was the longest Halloween of Harvey Dent's life.

When the police investigated the scene of his father's suicide, they found an envelope addressed to Harvey. He never opened, never dared to read the contents of the paper within. Instead, he buried himself in his work and studies. He lead Harvard's moot court program to a national championship, being noted as an All-American mock trial participant. He graduated Harvard Summa Cum Laude, proceeding to spend three years at their law school. It was there that he met Gilda Grace Gold. After many nights staying up late together, working on moot court cases, legal case studies, term papers, a romantic interest inevitably formed between the two of them.

After law school, Harvey and Gilda worked together to form their own small legal practice. It went bankrupt after a year and a half, but not before winning over 26 cases in court. The two partners were, however, both drafted into the ranks of the prosecutor's office. As a part of the state legal system, the pair were forced to work on both sides of legal cases, sometimes even against each other. Dent proved to be an exceptional litigator. His smile, charm, and intense legal knowledge carried him far in the eyes of the public. There, he only remained for two years before being promoted to Assistant District Attorney. As assistant DA, he took care of plea bargains, evidential hearings, and making sure the regional prosecutors fulfilled their duties.

One of Dent's biggest crusades was that against the recent upswing in superhuman activity. While he never condoned the vigilantist style of justice characters like the Bat-Man pursue, Dent was unable to deny the aid which such characters had given to Gotham.
In addition, Harvey has recently won the election for District Attorney.

.The burning question - Why this character?: Harvey's story is almost Shakespearian, in a way. It follows the classic formula of a Shakesperian drama: a flawed hero, victim to fate, falls from grace. And yet, even after his fall, Harvey's philosophy doesn't seem entirely unreasonable. In fact, Two-Face almost causes internal conflict within us all about how far we are willing - and should be allowed - to go in the name of justice.

.How will this version of your character differ from others? How will it be Ultimate?: This, here, is the big question, isn't it? Well, Harvey Dent will be the same justice-loving son of a gun we've known and loved in various incarnations. The pursuer of justice, the arbiter of truth. Of course, there will be some slight changes: this incarnation of Dent isn't married to Gilda, isn't District Attorney, and isn't missing half of his face... yet. I do have an Ultimization of Two-Face in my head already, but for the sake of preserving the story and surprise, I'd like to keep it to myself. Of course, I can PM it to the GMs if they so desire. It will, indeed, be very different from his mainstream counterpart.

This Harvey, however, will not suffer from split personality disorder, as the DCAU incarnation did. One of the aspects of that character that I have never understood is the "Big Bad Harv" side of his personality. Harvey Dent is, and has always been, a beacon of what Gotham citizens could do if they simply lived up to the morals that they so intently profess. Giving the character a dark side that is willing to kill, while possible, undermines the moral center Harvey has. Harvey will get angry, sure enough, but he will not have an evil alter-ego. After all, his descent into madness will have to be complete; not merely the assertion of another personality. He will develop a case of dissociative identity disorder. His scarring will not merely aggravate it.
Those are Matt Murdock's words. And I will respect what he has established for the character and some of what he had planned. However, the great thing about this universe is that we all have different ideas for how to "spin" these characters, and I am no different. All this being said, I have discussed my plans with MB (now Batman, I see), and I would like to keep them confidential for the sake of surprise.

.What do you believe you can bring to the RPG?: Well, my time away from the Hype has given me no artistic outlet, so I'm bursting (I know someone will make that sexual) with pent-up emotions that I'm ready to express through this character. For now, he's the only one I'll tackle, and I want to do him right (someone will make this sexual as well). I can't promise that I'll be as consistent as I was during my glory days, but I will still be reliable.

.Provide a sample post as the character you wish to portray, in three paragraphs or more:

Halloween. I've never liked it. There's something unsettling about having one night devoted entirely to people pretending to be something they're not. I like to think of myself as a straight-shooter, so I've never been a fan of hiding behind a mask. However, Halloween haunts me for a different reason.

I can still see it now. My house. The house I grew up in. Surrounded by flashing red-and-blue lights. The small crowd gathering outside, held back only by police officers and crime scene tape. I was returning from a Halloween party. I had dressed up as the Phantom of the Opera. I had just removed the half-mask from my face when I saw the house.

I immediately ran to the scene. A police officer stepped in and tried to stop me from coming any closer. I struggled under his grasp, eventually pulling free. Another officer, one who recognized me, came forward and allowed me to come through. I ran as fast as my legs would allow to the wide-open front door. My heart was pounding.

And there he was. Lying on the hardwood of the foyer. My father. Benjamin Dent. A pool of blood around his head and a discarded revolver at his feet. I dropped my mask and sank to my knees. My life nearly ended in that moment. It was a Halloween I won't soon forget.

Halloween. I never liked it.

"Trick or treat."

.Character you wish to portray: Barbara "Babs" Gordon, soon to be "Batgirl".

.Hero, villain, or walking the line?: Stripper. Professional.

.Powers and physical attributes: Skilled gymnast, versed in martial arts, and genius intellect (photographic memory, detective skills).

.Origin and backstory (as you see it):

Barbara goes to Gotham Heights High School (GHHS). Throughout her life, all Babs has known is police work, school work, and gymnastics. Her father always made it a priority that Barbara knew how to fight, living in the city they live in, knowing how to protect oneself was always a priority. From a young age, Barbara also learned the life a police officer through her father, gaining many skills and learning many tricks of the trade along the way.

Pushed into it by her mother at a young age, Barbara became one of her city's best gymnast, competing in various competitions and continuing throughout high school, even branching off and joining the cheerleaders.
After her mother's death and the discovery of her father's affair, a gap formed between her and her father. As Gordon became busier and busier with work, the relationship between him and his daughter severed even more.

Being a member of the popular crowd of her school, Babs found a niche among her peers. The less time she spends at home, for her, the better it is. However, as of late, her feelings of emptiness have begun to grow, and she feels like there's something more for her out there: but what?

Oh, and as an update: Her brother's dead. Haha.

.The burning question - Why this character?: Why not?

.How will this version of your character differ from others? How will it be Ultimate?: She'll be at ends with her dad, instead of close to him. Rebelious in many ways, but still with a good heart, Barbara will grow into a fine hero of Gotham. I also hope to make her teen life just as important as her soon to be crime fighting life, working them together in an even mesh.

.What do you believe you can bring to the RPG?: Spandex.

Barbara Gordon's Diary
November 12, 2009

Right, so here I am, in my room, on another sleepless Saturday night resting my head on a wet pillow, crying my eyes out, as I write this down with shakey fingers. It's been four days since it happened. Four long days of grueling mourning, thinking about it over and over again in my mind. My brother is dead - and he's never coming home.

As I continue to let the warm tears cascade down my cheeks, my mind delves deeper and deeper into the thought that Jimmy's body now lies six feet below Gotham Cemetary's grass, beginning to rot away as his soul resides somewhere else in the universe. The more I think the harder I cry - this is real, it's not a dream.

As I roll over to my side I try to take my mind off of him, off the silly expression I invision of his face. I try to think of other things in my life, but as I do, nothing works. I just replay that day over and over - remembering the screams, the terror, the mercilous evil that took hold of my home. I can't believe I have the stomache to stay here anymore - for that matter, how can dad? As I begin to think of my father, my veins begin to boil in anger. Why, you might ask? Oh, no reason. Except at the funeral for Jimmy... he wasn't there. My father wasn't at my brother's, his son's funeral. No, no. I'm fine with that, really. It's cool.

My agony is the present, right now. My bitterness is a feeling that is second only to my grief. But, as they say, there is a time for mourning. This is that time. I'll pay my respects, I'll say my prayers as I lay Jimmy's memory to rest in my mind. But my sorrow will not last forever. No, I've seen the face of the evil that does these acts. I'm tired of crying, sick of burying the people I know and love.

Before Jimmy died, I was beginning something, starting something great - something I thought would protect the ones I care for. But it wasn't ready, I wasn't ready. ... and now Jimmy's dead. Am I to blame? Probably not. But I take the guilt of his murderer, take the burden of his death. Forgive me, Jimmy... I'm sorry I wasn't ready... sorry I let you die. Forgive me, Jim. Forgive me...

. THE NEW ULTIMATE DC RPG .
Character Application

.Screen name: Eddie Brock

.Character you wish to portray: Detective Selina Kyle / Holly Robinson

.Hero, villain, or walking the line?: Hero

.Powers and physical attributes: No powers, but Selina has all the training required of a Gotham City police officer. As such, she's well-trained in combat and firearms - though she rarely uses the latter. For Selina, staying at top form can often be a matter of life and death.

.Origin and backstory (as you see it): Selina Kyle grew up in a broken home. Her father and mother split not long after she was born, a fact that causes Selina to shoulder some of the blame. When her alcoholic father, Brian Kyle, dies of alcohol poisoning, Selina comes into the permanent care of her mother, Maria. Times were tough for the Kyles, and Maria resorted to prostitution - not only to feed her child, but also to feed a growing addiction to heroin. Having no place else to go, Maria brought her clients back to her dingy apartment. Selina was too young to understand the truth, but she knew that she didn't like the men that her mother was bringing home. This, added to her resentment of her father for "leaving," laid the foundations of a lifetime of distrusting men.

After her mother overdosed on heroin, Selina was put into the foster care system. From then on, she lived a relatively normal life, but she was always haunted by her past. Selina frequently changed families because she came at odds with the men trying to be a father figure for her. Selina finally found peace with an older woman, Irena Dubrovna, who had an affinity for cats. She went to school, participated in gymnastics, and matured.

As a result of her rough childhood, Selina felt a calling. She joined the Gotham City Police Department, in hopes of ridding the city of the evils that plagued her early life. Shortly after joining the force, Selina was made an undercover officer in the Vice Unit. Selina worked for almost a year with Vice, posing as a prostitute to help bring the industry and its clients down. Her exceptional work in this field merited her a far more important - yet far more dangerous - job.

Selina was assigned to infiltrate the Maroni crime family. Her new identity was Holly Robinson, a woman from a well-to-do Brooklyn family. The guise worked like a charm, and after a brief courtship, Selina became Salvatore Maroni's trophy girlfriend. She's been undercover for almost two years now, but the case against Maroni hasn't gotten much stronger. Selina's fellow officers don't respect her, which motivates her to work even harder to bring Maroni down to prove herself.

Recently, Edward Nygma has been hired to tail Selina on Maroni's request. However, Nygma - being a police officer himself - already knows why Selina has been acting strangely.

.The burning question - Why this character?: The idea came to me suddenly, and as I discussed it with Master Bruce, I found I liked it more and more. I've always toyed with the idea of playing Catwoman, but I've never known what to do with her when I'm not working with Batman. Now, I finally have that something. In fact, it's almost what I'm looking forward to more.

.How will this version of your character differ from others? How will it be Ultimate?: First and foremost, Selina is a cop. This departure from the norm completely changes her dynamic. Rather than overtly trying to topple organized crime as Catwoman, she's working much more subtly. Her past is very similar, although it's been modified to make her motivations and dislike of men stronger. While I anticipate her relationship with Batman will not change greatly, her relationship with Bruce Wayne will.

.What do you believe you can bring to the RPG?: Reliability and excitement. I still don't know where I "rank" in terms of quality, but I'd like to think that - at the very least - my stories are interesting, if not always superbly written.

.Provide a sample post as the character you wish to portray, in three paragraphs or more:

"HOLLY!" Sal barks. "HOLLY!" I slink into the dining room. The eyes of Sal's associates immediately turn to me. Then, as usual, they immediately drop to my chest. I do my best to ignore them as I smile pleasantly. Men are pigs. "Would you take care of this thing, please?" Sal asks irritably, motioning to the curled-up black figure on the table before him.

I say nothing as I cross the dining room to where Sal's sitting. I pick up the cat, Ebony, and glance at the men surrounding Sal. Their faces aren't familiar to me.

"Take it for a walk or something," Sal grumbles. He waves his hand dismissively when I try to kiss him on the neck.

I retort, "She, Sal, she. Not it." He rolls his eyes. "And she's a cat. You don't walk cats."

"Whatever!" Sal replies, his temper increasing again. "Just get it out of here." As I'm walking out, I hear him say to his associates, "Never buy your lady a cat. God, I hate the thing."

Ebony purrs as I pet her gently. "It's okay, baby."

THE NEW ULTIMATE DC RPG .
Character Application

.Screen name: Syn

.Character you wish to portray: Floyd Lawton, codename Deadshot

.Hero, villain, or walking the line?: Villain

.Powers and physical attributes: Accuracy

.Origin and backstory (as you see it): Floyd Lawton was born a normal boy, living a normal life in his hometown with his family. Of course, his normalcy didn't last very long. One day, Floyd got into an arguement with a boy at his elementary school. The boy claimed Floyd took his pair of scissors, calling him a thief, among other names. Deciding to resolve the conflict himself, Floyd returned the stolen impliment by shoving it into the other student's neck. Floyd was arrested and tried in court, but the jury found that he wasn't compentant of his actions. Instead, they sent him to a psychiatric facility where he was evaluated for a month. During that time, he severely beat another patient over some nontrivial issue. It was then the doctors realized that Floyd was not such a normal child.

After a few years, Floyd was diagnosed with mania, classifying him as a sociopath with a detachment from people and and the dissability to discern between right and wrong. They kept Floyd under close supervision at Red Shadows Asylum for many years.

Sixteen years later, a new proprieter took control of Red Shadows as part of a buyout in a business deal. Maxwell Lord, rising entrepeanur and millionaire tycoon, began reviewing the patients at Red Shadows Asylum. It wasn't long before Lord came across the profile of Floyd Lawton. Finding an oppurtunity too good to pass up, Max took special interest in Floyd and decided to use him in his endeavors.

Now, Floyd Lawton, aka Deadshot as classified by Lord, is used as a mercenary for hire. Maxwell Lord rents Floyd out to the highest bidder, sending him along with his handlers to do whatever task the buyer asks. In return, Floyd gets the opportunity to satisfy his bloodlust and enjoy life, having the ability to breath in fresh air and be out in public, a freedom his commitement to the Asylum would not regularly allow.

As far as the world knows, Floyd Lawton continues to recieve treatment at Red Shadows Asylum - but the underworld has a different knowledge. They know Lord rents one of the best assassins in the business - and they're all lined up to pay the pricetag.

.The burning question - Why this character?: Deadshot is awesome, in my opinion. I played him last time and I want to play him again. But this time - with a twist.

.How will this version of your character differ from others? How will it be Ultimate?: Before Floyd was an apathetic merc who didn't care if he lived or died. My Floyd is a murderer, a psychopath who's only desire is to kill. Should be interesting...

.What do you believe you can bring to the RPG?: Smokes.

.Provide a sample post as the character you wish to portray, in three paragraphs or more:

Metropolis; city of prestige, power, and opportunity. Inside its harbor, a city envied by many resides, bustling with the busy tasks of its many venues. A hero watches over this city, monitoring its activities from the skies with a protective eye. He saves those in danger, thwarts crime, and keeps order as best he can. But no man is perfect; no man omniscient of all that takes place. Even some things escape the eyes of the sentinel of liberty.

Suicide Slums - an old run down building by the harbor, a man breathes heavily as he runs up a never ending flight of stairs. His feet hit each metal step hard as he thrust his body upward, hoping to escape from this metal cage alive. He rises through the building, going up flight after flight, hoping to reach a safe sanctum.

After a few moments of frantic sprints, the man soon reaches the top floor, a small platform only a foot wide leading to a locked door. The man drops his shoulder and begins pounding into the door, thrusting with all his weight and might to break in the thick steal door. He tries with everything he has, ramming himself against the door hoping for a miracle. After minutes of futile effort, he soon collapses, weary and tired. He rubs his shoulder gently, hoping to sooth the burning pain from the bruise that is most likely beginning to form.

As he sits in the silence, he hears something, a terrifying noise that makes his heart drop down into his gut. Listening closely, he focuses on the repeative sound, the "pit-pat" of footsteps as his stalker walks up the stairs closer and closer toward him. "No..." he says with a gasp, knowing what is coming for him. He tries to rise to his feet, tries to force his body to move so he has some kind of chance for escape - but he is weak, his body is spent, and the pain in his shoulder seems to be the final nail in his coffin.

As the footsteps grow closer, the man simply watches the stair case, seeing the figure as it comes into view. "Oh, no...please...no..." he says wearily, leaning back against the metal door as the figure reaches the last few steps. Suddenly, the figure stops, standing only feet in front of the man. He stares at him, eyes heartlessly examining his prey as the rest of his body remains stiff like a statue.
"Please," the man pleads, shaking his head slowly back and forth. "I-I'll pay the money. I'll pay him, I swear. I'll get Hansin the money - I will, I promise I will. Please, just let me live." As tears of fear begin to roll down the man's face, his attacker simply stares at him - cold and lifeless, devoid of emotion of compassion.
"Tell me, Mr. Right," the figure suddenly speaks. He takes a step closer, inching toward the man as he cowers in terror. "What did you expect would happen when you reached the top floor?" The man's mouth drops as he ponders the question, realizing how futile his efforts at escape really were.

Smoothly, the attacker reaches to hip and slips his hand into his pocket. As he pulls his hand out, he reveals something held carefully between his fingers - a credit card, its silver exterior shimmering in the dull light. "Here," the attacker says heartlessly as he shows the piece of plastic to his target. "I believe this is yours." Suddenly, his fingers twitch, and the card flies from his hand. Before a breath can be made, the thin rectagular object flies through the air, its edge brushing perfectly by the man's neck, severing the skin and the artery that lies just beneath the surface.

http://i186.photobucket.com/albums/x90/Edge_027/escapist-trailer-hd-081.jpg

The man coughs only once, his eyes rolling back into his head before he can raise his hands to the wound. Blood begins to flow from the slit, trickling down his moist neck and down past the collar of his shirt, wetting the fabric and causing a red stain. As the attacker watches, two men in black suits rise up the stairs to meet him.

"Alright, Floyd," one of the men says. "Good work."
"Yeah, Hanson said he finished the transfer this morning. Job's finished."
The man stays silent, only staring at the bloody neck of his victim. "Hey, Floyd, did you hear me?"

Suddenly the man turns, simply moving his neck as he looks over his shoulder, the rest of his body remaining still. "Now it's back to the cell, right?" He asks with a sneer, his white canines reflecting a soft glow as the light glistens off his saliva.

"Nah, man." One of the men says with a smile. "Mr. Lord called us a few minutes ago. Looks like we've got a new buyer." The killer smiles, the skin of his cheeks rising high to reveal a satisfied grin.
"Oh boy," he speaks, the emotion of his words seeming forced. "Let's hope the next one can actually put up a fight."

BUT!... that said, there will be entertainment, in the form of scantily clad women offering lapdances, for each of the winners. :ninja:

Best Hero: Master Bruce's Batman. Absolutely love it. He's not only reinvisioned the character's mythos in a positive way, but he's played him the way I invision Batman in my head. As I read each new post and see the subtle or obvious plot points develop, it always makes me smile, and for that, I give this nomination.
Best Villain: This one is tough. The three or four steady villains we've had have all been doing or developing great stories and really been characterized as nefarious villains. But, I'm going to have to throw this one out to Catman for Black Mask. He really was an evil SOB, and now that he's dead, I'm going to miss his presence in the underworld.
Best "Ultimized" Character: Again, this one is hard, but I'm going to give this to Byrd Man for Edward Nygma. I love the stuff he's got going with this crazy narcisist, and I can't wait to see where it goes.
Best Character Development: For this award, I always take it to mean the character who's come the farthest in the 500 ic posts for this award installment. Personally, I think Catman's Comissioner Gordon has done this. He started off as a Cop who wanted revenge against the underworld, and now he's become a true hard*** who's so set on his mission everything else in his life is now falling at the way side. As McDonald's slogan states, "I'm Lovin' it."
Best Story Arc: Either way, JB gets this award. He's had three good arcs so far that I've really enjoyed reading, but to be specific, I'm going to give this one to the Joker's Circus. I was really pumped to get involved with it before I left, but unfortunately was not able to. Then when I came back and read up on all that happened, I really loved it and was sorry I missed out. Ultimate Joker - one creepy mofo.
Best Newcomer: Weve had a lot of newcomers in the last 500 posts, but not many stuck around. Through and through, I'm going to give this to Belvedere. I loved his posts, and I loved his enthusiasm for the rpg. I'm just sad he left. :csad: I'm also giving this one out to Majestic, because his stuff so far has been great and I look forward to him sticking around.
Best Post: This. (http://forums.superherohype.com/showpost.php?p=17725200&postcount=464)

Best Hero: Batman - MB
Bruce Wayne drinks too much, smokes, does drugs, sleeps with more women than Wilt Chamberlin. As Batman, he's ultra-violent. Close to the point of mortally wounding his foes.....and I love it. To me, this version of Batman is Frank Miller's Bats without all the....Millerisms. He's crazy, but not overtly so. It's

Best Villain: William Hand - Sensei
Although this villain wasn't around long, Sensei did him up and turned the crazy as **** comics version into a veteran Lantern, a fallen soldier with one hell of a chip on his shoulder.

Best 'Walking The Line': James Gordon - Catman
Had I went with my original inclination, I would have played Ult. Gordon. He'd be hate the Batman, but be a good cop. I am so glad Cats went with him. He's moral and amoral, willing to bend the rules to the breaking point. Possibly dirty, and the best antagonist I could have hoped for with Nygma.

Best "Ultimized" Character: Alan Scott - Belvedere
Five words: Paul Newman as Alan Scott. The history between Scott and Teddy Grant is the stuff of Greek tragedy. It's just a shame Belv fell off the face of the Earth.

Best Post: Death of Black Mask (http://forums.superherohype.com/showpost.php?p=17583798&postcount=373)

MVP (Most Valuable Player): MB
He's our leader, the man who keeps the RPG running. Even though he's a bastard, he's my friend and the best writer on the boards. Goddamn you, MB! :cmad:

And, just for fun:

Best Faceless Vigilante Who's Name Starts With A "Q":

Quilt-Man. I couldn't even vote for myself. :csad:

Eddie Brock
11-23-2009, 09:43 AM
Best Hero: Hate to sound like a broken record, but the clear winner is Master Bruce's Batman. Whenever MB picks a character, you know you're in for something good, but when his mind is free to explore 'Ultimate' possibilities? The devil is in the details, and MB has these covered. ('Oracle' as a computer program? Genius.)

Best Villain: Rest in peace, Catman's Black Mask. Despite the length of his reign, there was plenty of terror to go around thanks to this guy. His heart was as black as his mask, and it showed.

Best 'Walking The Line': Never thought I'd be nominating this character for this category, but that's exactly why this one goes to Catman's Jim Gordon. Traditionally, he's the straight-edge cop with a heart of gold, but here at UDC, we say to Hell with tradition! And no character exemplifies this more so than Gordon.

Best "Ultimized" Character: The winner has to be Byrd Man's Deathstroke. At first glance, the concept is so nutty it's laughable. But that's the real genius, isn't it? Depending on who's writing Deathstroke (which someone should be doing right now), he can either be a laughing stock - far removed from his mainstream counterpart - or he can be a genuinely disturbed individual.

Best Character Development: I like to spread out awards when possible, but I also believe in credit where credit is due, which is why MB's Batman walks away with this one, too. In post one, Bruce is already having a crisis over whether he wants to continue doing this thing. By this point, he's well on his way to building the infamous Batman myth - striking fear in the hearts of criminals around the city.

Best Story Arc: I'm partial to Byrd Man/Catman's Nygma vs. Gordon arc. They're not two characters you immediately associate, and they've definitely never interacted like this before. Plus the fact that Nygma's the one hunting for justice...it just feels right for UDC.

Best Post: http://forums.superherohype.com/showpost.php?p=17165501&postcount=53

MVP (Most Valuable Player): The man who keeps IC and OOC running, the one who took the time to compile an extensive list of Ultimatized PCs and NPCs, the winner is undoubtedly Master Bruce.

Batman
11-23-2009, 01:29 PM
Thanks for all of the nods, guys. I really appreciate it. Glad you're enjoying my take on The Bat. :)

Best Hero: The Flash (Byrd Man)
The Scarlet Speedster's always been a character with a strong legacy aspect... but Byrd's Flash is all his own. Easily comparable to the Spider-Man of the UDCU, Bart Allen fills the boots of his mainstream predeccesors well, bringing a great balance of heart and humor into a world full of nessecarily grim characters. He combines the best of all who've donned the red and yellow costume, and blends it into a character that doesn't feel contrived or redundant - territory that could have easily been fallen into.

Honorable Mentions - Superman (Spike_x1), Bigby Wolf (Johnny Blaze)

Best Villain: The Joker (Johnny Blaze)
It was kind of hard to pick this one, as we haven't seen too many PC villains since the game began, but the one that stood out to me as the closest to remaining consisently evil since the beginning is Blaze's Clown Prince. Taking the mad jester approach and contemporizing it into a literal theme for Batman's greatest enemy, while adding a bit of psychological derangement in a way never expected, Blaze's Joker is every bit as compelling, while simultaneously mysterious, as the many versions of the character offered in the last few decades.

Honorable Mentions - Lex Luthor (Andy C.), Black Hand (SenseiofCheese)

Best 'Walking The Line': Edward Nygma (Byrd Man)
Yes, Byrd gets two. It pained me to do it, because the last thing he needs is the ego boost, but I couldn't ignore his rather intriguing portrayl of the would-be Riddler. Taking a concept like making Nygma into a cop and backing it with a curiously perplexing psychological study into the mind of a guy who's intentions aren't exactly noble, yet not inherently bad, really define what it means to, uh... 'walk the line'. It reads like a Christopher Nolan character, plays like a David Fincher character, and ends up a little like Alan Moore along the way. How the hell anyone managed to pull that off is beyond me... but Byrd did it. The bastard.

Honorable Mentions - Commissioner Gordon (Catman_prb), Zauriel (Senseofcheese)

Best "Ultimized" Character: Barbara Gordon (Syn)
After watching Barbara Gordon being developed throughout the last game, I was more than a little disappointed that we never got her into the cape and cowl. But Syn's not only done that in the first half of a season, he's created a Babs that literally spits in the face of every concieved notion you have about the character. No longer the girl next door, Syn's Barbara is what you get when you take a real American teenage girl and put her under the roof of the Commissioner of Gotham City - bitter, selfish, and every bit as tough as it takes to handle the mean streets. Her turn from a brooding young woman to an idealistic heroine was not only a great read, it was a seamless one, and all credit for that can go to Syn's unique approach. Bring on the Batgirl.

Honorable Mentions: Selina Kyle (Eddie Brock), Wonder Woman (Andy C.)

Best Character Development: Alan Scott (Belvedere)
I never once thought that I'd be voting for Alan Scott for anything. He's just not a character commonly picked up in the games - before Belve did it, I swear I only saw it happen once. But Belvedere's look at how heroes used to be before the current trend of vigilantism is not only compelling... it's actually kind of surprising. Not only does Alan get away with murder in his prime years, he comes across as a villain just as much as he does a hero - even when he's saving a life. It's only a shame that Belvedere isn't with us anymore, as his Alan Scott was always a welcome addition to the RPG.

Honorable Mentions - Aquaman (trustyside-kick), Selina Kyle (Eddie Brock)

Best Story Arc: Chaos on Almerac (Spike_x1/Byrd Man)
Three words: Hot alien babe. Never could you think that those words could also mean the circumstances behind the first meeting of two pillar DC characters, but somehow, Spike and Byrd did it - and in style, too. Mixing comedy and drama with a tale of morality versus insanity, there's rarely been a dull moment here. And with the word 'Mongul' also added to the mix, Spike's successfully managed to set up one hell of a showdown in the future of the game.

Honorable Mentions - Ultimate Fables (Johnny Blaze), The Fantastic Four (Belvedere)

Best Post: Jim Gordon's Revenge (http://forums.superherohype.com/showpost.php?p=17583798&postcount=373)
This one speaks for itself. Never has a post better illustrated a character's more than justifiable turn from a hero... to something else. Cats' Commissioner Gordon was already a highlight of the RPG, but this post proved to me that he was also one of the game's best characters.

MVP (Most Valuable Player): Byrd Man
Jesus, a third one?! Sadly, yes, but I did this for one very clear reason. You can never go into a page of the IC thread without seeing a post, likely several, that takes you from an emotionally gripping storyline or a grim, dark place and brings you back into a nice read of entertainment. And that post is likely written by our beloved bastard/racist/serial axe murderer. As the top poster of the thread, Byrd's helped injec life into the game by successfully keeping the RPG going at it's slowest pace, and somehow keeping up at it's fastest. No wonder he's playing The Flash.

:csad:

I feel weird saying it, but I actually agree with all your picks. Especially the "Best Ultimized" one. I really loved Belvedere's Alan Scott.
Shame he's gone. :csad:
