Jamie and myself are thinking of opening a Green Lantern site asap to go along with the new film. We are looking for a name and we wanted to come to you guys, the biggest Lantern fans I know, to pick one.
Whichever poster picks the name that we use, we will send you some free movie related goodies.

Is this official or unofficial?

The straightforward option of thegreenlanterncorps.com is already taken, by what is probably the best GL fan community on the net. So, for an alternative, you might want to try something that references the mythology in a more oblique way.
I'll try and think up something a little better, but Sector2814.com or Sector2814.net could be a possibility.

I was going to suggest www.inblackestnight.com, but that automatically redirects you to DC's Green Lantern page.

Great question. Tough to give you a straightforward answer on.
Best to say unofficial at this time.

I think it's too similar to the well-established thegreenlanterncorps.com. If this new site wants to establish its own identity, it has to do something different with its title I think.

Yeah, I could see that. If it had been official I would put like Movie or something behind it. Besides, the general audience wouldn't know all the nicknames and vague references so you would probably want Green or Lantern somewhere in the website title.
Since it's for fans, they don't really care about that kind of stuff. They know the slight variations because they have the stuff bookmarked.

Green Loontern is a classic. Another suggestion would be EmeraldKnights.net: Fansite of all things Green Lantern.

As if everybody knows that the domain is already taken. That's not so obvious, even if somebody did say they were joking.
