View Full Version : A Thread For The Disappointments

This is a thread for all the things over the years that have have let you down or not lived up to your expectations... The disappointments.

It can be anything... It's wiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiide open, folks.
Movies, Music, comic books, work or even Life in general...

1. Art college.

Yeah, art college wasn't good for me. There was nothing they could give me, y'know?
I was there two years before i dropped out and, i can honestly say, it's one of the very few decisions i've made in my life that i've never thought twice about.
Two years of art school and i only learnt ONE thing... I hate art students.

2. Spider-Man 3

I've had break-ups that hurt less than the feeling i had coming out of the theatre on opening night...

3. The Kings Of Leon.

It was the start of the new century, and i'd just fallen in love with a band. Their name was the kings of Leon. They made this loud, gin-sodden hillbilly rock and roll sound that was so... Fresh! And they were the real deal too.
Over the years, with every subsequent album, i've watched this band mutate into basically what amounts to one of those boy bands with that 'sanitised stadium rock' sound... Just compare a picture of them from 2001 to a picture of them now.
I hate this expession but it's the only one that fits... The people are sell-outs. Only suitable for the kind of teenage girls you cross the street to avoid and people who buy their albums in supermarkets.

You go.
Let's have fun with this.

I agree to an extent, i went to art college and did hate most of it but i found that it depended on the type of student, i mean i got on well with anyone who was studying graphic design style art, but anyone who studied fine/modern art was so far up they're own arse the could vanish

BATMAN: THE MUSICAL. My composer had a mental breakdown and abandoned the project, and I then had it professionally budgeted at $300,000. For a weekend's worth of shows. $295,000 without the car. So that's in development hell.

I know you probably work for a bigger company but... How did you get professional budgeting? My friends and I are making an indie film, and we're trying to get help with our budget... It'd be cool if you could just point me in the right direction.

Hard work and elbow grease.

Seriously, though, I had it budgeted, I didn't actually obtain the budget. Someone who works in professional theatre doing sets, lighting and effects gave me an idea of what it would cost to stage an off Broadway level version of my project.

I'm not in the business at all. Quite honestly, I have no idea how people secure budgets.

20% of the population (post 2003): Your either crazy, stupid, ignorant, or just hate this country. Possibly all 4. And why in the hell does 80% of my family fall into that 20%?

Bad Drivers: I know that lights, horns, and signals are just an extra decisions to confuse you as your out to get your Beer, Crack, or Tater Tots. But I don't appreciate you almost killing me or damaging my vehicle on a daily basis. Try to learn to use those buttons and knobs a bit more, and be conscientious of others when you drive, because we dont want to bludgeon you with a tire iron after you fly unannounced across two lanes so you don't miss that turn/ exit.

True Blood.

I just checked out the first episode. I wouldn't have even bothered but it's Alan Ball so i gave it a chance... Wow! Bits of that were just flat-out ridiculous... I thought Ball was gonna do something interesting with the whole Vampire thing but instead a lot of it seemed to me to be like how i would imagine Twilight to be like...
Also, the Bell character is NOT sexy and enigmatic... He's a douche! Everytime he mysteriously appeared in a scene to stare "smoulderingly" at people, i just wanted to slap him upside the head and scream "Wise up!"

Why does being a vampire in a movie/tv show instantly make you a fart-sniffing tool these days?

I'd fill this thread up with personal disappointments so I'll just say that I'm disappointed with myself in general. The bad thing is is that I'm aware of my own failings and haven't truly done anything to correct them... procrastination at it's ugliest.

Also, I'm disappointed in all this disappointment... now I need some zoloft.

I didn't even bother with Civil War. I saw what they did to spider-man and made a point of boycotting it.

With the exception of The Spectacular Spider-man cartoon, it really is a bad time to be a fan of the wall crawler...

That's right, says me.

The third movie would have to get quite a bit better to be called 'terrible' and the comics haven't had a clue what they're doing in quite a while.

QFT Name ONE Superhero musical that has turned out well. I think both the stage AND hollywood suffer when they don't stick to their original content.

Spider-Man the musical (the one being produced for millions for Broadway right now...isn't U2 doing the music?) is going to be BALLS. Like when you go to Universal Studios and have to see Spidey swinging around to a 45 year old Mary Jane oversinging a "There Goes My Hero" by the Foo Fighters. Ugh.

Also, all of these movies being put into development:
