View Full Version : Should Thor be seen in Iron Man 2 first?

Marvel would be dumb not to increase awareness of this Thor film by using Iron Man 2. How can they best accomplish it? I'm thinking they need to tack on a Thor ending just like Stark showed up at the end of Incredible Hulk. Something separate from the film but a teaser to link everything together. If not Thor himself, Stark and Fury looking at a newspaper that mentions a Norse god seen throwing lightning or something similar would be a great idea.

I think fury should mention something like he's got a god to chase down, or something like he's been chasong thunder or something.

I think that would kind of steal the thunder (no pun intended) from his own movie to introduce him that way. They can make reference but not show him then.
I don't think he should be seen in Iron Man 2. Fury might make some cryptic comment that, in the light of the Thor movie would make perfect sense, but other than that I say keep Thor for his own movie.

I agree with most of you. A cryptic hint by Nick Fury would be pretty cool. I'd rather have them explore Howard Stark's role in the WW2 Super Soldier project.

If it is during the movie (as in before the end credits) then they should just find a way to mention him but not show him. However if its after the end credits and just before the end credits then they maybe can show him. Either in the flesh or a photograph of him or even just his back as he maybe pick up his hammer or something like that.
Even having both of those options in the movie will be pretty cool.

I think they should keep it subtle without actually showing Thor. Maybe just have some news reports on TV throughout the movie of a rash of thunderstorms cropping up seemingly from nowhere in the American midwest or something.
I'd hope that it's mentioned that a Man is causing weather disturbances/storms etc, lest the GA think they're referring to Storm hehehe.
In the same vein as Stark discovering the 'icing' problem, I wouldn't mind him testing a new suit, getting struck by lightning and then limping back in 'get-me-home' mode, muttering about how this could be a problem.
Oh, and not have Whiplash be incapacitated by lightning, lest it be a rehash of the first film scenario...

If there is some Thor action in IM2, I just hope it's not corny. I don't wanna see Mjolnir go flying across the screen randomly.

One year ago David Maisel confirms the Thor introduction in "Iron Man 2": "Maisel said Iron Man 2 will be used to introduce Thor"

Despite Hemsworth visit on the IM2 set I am not counting on it. I am expecting the cameo to be Banner if anything, which would be better IMO.

It would certainly be a nice bit of continuity. Iron Man to The Incredible Hulk to Iron Man 2 to Thor to Cap to The Avengers.

No I don't actually want to see Thor in IM2.
I can see some mention of a strong Storm somewhere or Iron Man flying through the storm, but to Show Thor just before His own movie would be a mistake.

I am willing to put BIG money on Thor at least being referenced in some way in IM2. That's the beauty of a studio have 100% control of all its characters--it can totally tie everything together into one world, one universe.
I wish FOX would let go of X-Men and the Fantastic Four so they could be a part of this. How awesome would it be for Reed Richards to be working with Tony on a project in one of these films?

I think they should make a reference. Maybe Fury shows Tony a confiscated cell phone video of Thor fighting someone at the end. The video should be all shaky & stuff & you barely see Thor.

Maybe at the end of the Movie Fury Gives him a mission to find Donald Blake or something.

I'd hate to see Thor revealed, costume and all, in a throw away cameo at the end of the credits. The first time we see Thor it should be a big deal. So I agree with most people here, in that a hint or a nod to Thor would be great, but not Thor himself.

Agree with you on this. Marvel having 100% control is a good thing. It would be good if they could get X-Men and The Fantastic Four movie rights.

Chris was on IM2 set per Kevin Feige in recent Q & A I posted in IM2 forums. :p

Honestly...the only thing I care about is how they are going to bring a magic based hero into this world of Iron Man....should be interesting.

I think a Thor Cameo would be awesome. as long as it isn't overly corny. But I trust Marvel can figure out a way to include Thor as a Psysical cameo. Has anybody heard about the supposed hawkeye appearance?

I strongly believe that Donald Blake will be mentioned or seen at least after the credits in IM2.I don't think that Marvel is stupid enough to show Thor in full costume in IM2.I'm still pissed off about Fox having all the rights to the rest of my beloved Marvel characters.I would gladly kick some serious butt of the mastermind who had that brilliant idea!Marvel belongs to Marvel, nobody else!!!Marvel can do whatever they want with THEIR characters!''Nuff said!

Marvel didn't even have their own movie studio when they first gave out the rights to their other characters. If Marvel hadn't given Spider-Man to Sony and X-Men to FOX, we never would've had those movies, and we probably wouldn't have the movies they're making now.
I just wish FOX and Sony would stop milking those franchises, so in a few years the rights could revert back to Marvel. I'd rather not see what Raimi has in store for us afte Spider-Man 3 anyways.

So why not have Thor appear in IM2. We're comic fans, we have to think like the masses who probably have no idea who Thor is.
I think most people will say, "Wasn't that a character from Dexter's Lab (http://img.villagephotos.com/p/2005-3/978450/Val.jpg)?" when they see him.
So to raise awareness of the character and make him seem cool, he should actually appear in IM2 or at least have more than a subtle reference.
The second reason is that it's more fun how Marvel movies are actually one universe now. If we see Iron Man flying towards the screen, in the sky, at the end just before the credits...Then after the credits, he'd be flying and then stop as thunder clouds appear out of nowhere, and Thor descends in front of him.
That would be not only bad ass, but would connect the two films, have people actually care about Thor AND have fans of Ironman movies get a segway into the Avengers.

and while we're at it lets have an Ant-Man cameo, and a Hulk cameo, and a Cap cameo, and maybe even a Spider-Man cameo, and a Deadpool cameo, and a Batman cameo, etc
I think we should have ONLY a Cap cameo. At least it would relate to the plot line.

I wouldn't mind some mention of either Blake or some super powered disturbance related to the weather.

But they've cast Jane Foster, and haven't they said that a third of the movie will take place on modern day Earth? Doesn't that imply Donald Blake?

Kevin Feige himself told in an interview that there won't be a Don Blake, so I'm going with him. Of course, things may change, but he was crystal clear about the whole issue, and it's the most official statement about Blake's presence in the film.
I also believe Jane Foster will be Thor's love interest, and not Blake's. That would add to the whole conflict about a God who is so passionate about mortals that he ends up falling in love with one. If that's the case, Odin will have one more reason to be angry with his son...:cwink:

I think an end credits scene is the best way to have Thor in it. I'm pretty sure the GA would be confused about Thor before his own movie.
"Why is a god in Iron Man?" or something stupid like that.

I think IF we do see him it will be brief ... like say as Tony is walking into Fury's office Thor is walking out.
Or we see a lightening storm going on during a battle.

I'd go for the latter. Keep it subtle. Just a big mess of storm activity all over the news in the background throughout scenes in the movie.

I would love to see something like Fury talking with Stark at the end of the film. A cloudy night time scene where they are wrapping up a conversation about something (maybe even talking about Project Avenger). Just at the right point cutting off Fury mid-word there is an enormous thunder clap.
Fury nonchalantly looks to the sky and then back at Tony Stark and says something like “Speaking of which, I am late of an appointment.”
Fury enters a vehical and departs, Stark looks inquisitively at the camera (car POV) for a second then smirks… role credits.
Fanboy boner for days.
Maybe role a mention in of Hulk and Cap in passing at various points in the movie. Nothing too in depth.

That could work out well denny67. I am sure im2 is going to throw in something of hulk/thor likely. As for cap it would be nice to to lead to cap solo film. I think thor will be to busy with his godly stuff to throw a bone to cap.

Maybe youa re right about about Cap. After all, they already gave a nod to the Super Soldier program in Hulk. No need to run it into the ground. ;)

Yeah, that would be pretty cool. Seeing Thor just walking out of a place randomly would be so weird.

Perhaps a vague statement on how Howard Stark once met this kook that claimed to be a norse god. Something from past lore, Thor is near imortal.
