This is odd.

I totally thought that things would have started by this weekend. Are they waiting for more people to join?

But they sent us those e-mails not even a week into the viral. Were they planning to start sooner, but then got overwhelmed by how many people joined?

I don't get it.

Yea from what I have heard they aren't

Well, if that's the case, let's hope these folks bring this one to an all-new level.

Well most of the 42E employees that worked on TDK viral were laid off so what difference would it make?

it wont be the same 42E working on the virals

I don't know. I just want something to happen soon.

(Sig line) - Yeah I like it too. The way RDJ delivers it, it's hilarious.

My friend got an email from the creator of the 2012 and District 9 virals.

(He runs a website dedicated to movie virals) and she basically said about Comic Con that District 9 at comic con last year was only meant to spark interest in people. Not kick start a viral. That's why there was a 7 month lull in the viral. Who knows, maybe they're doing the same from Iron Man 2.

That would really suck if they did that. But then why e-mail us back a couple days after Comic-Con saying that they are going to contact us again soon?

It just seems like a really big tease.

Hahahaha no, what they gave us only fueled us for more and more. We were greedy.

We should just wait.

Hype is over 9000 times bigger than MovieViral and they got the creator of TWO huge movie virals to talk to them/notice them.

So, I'd assume someone is watching hype.

I just thought of something though. On the application, it asks people about the soonest they can start. I'm wondering if that corresponds to when you get a reply. I don't know what other people put, so I don't know if that is a true assumption. However, I do know that I put August 17th on my application and have yet to receive a reply.

What was the date that each of you committed to? And did you receive a reply?

I don't know if it has to do with e-mail clients... I'm just guessing that either:

1) They may not have been prepared for such a response
2) Inclusion for this viral is extremely limited
3) They are picking people at random
4) It depends on what you put for where you heard it...

I mean has anyone put SHH for where they heard it from and has also gotten a reply? Maybe we should all just put SDCC or a name on one of the business cards they have out there...

Who knows... I feel like there isn't much we can do now except play the waiting game...

Well there are two things that I check most days other than this forum.

The Feed: feed://www.starkindustriesnow.com/feed/

and http://www.starkindustriesnow.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/08/

The latter can't find the page, but if you put in /2009/07/ it says forbidden. So even it isn't up on the site, they could have uploaded something and then made it forbidden...

I Am The Bat
08-11-2009, 01:21 PM

I think it's number one. But I dont think they are going to make us wait that long.

In the email it says one of the first maybe there was a cutoff and the people who got in, were the chosen.

I was just thinking that. Maybe they do have a cutoff as to who they send the e-mails to. Maybe the people that signed up right away that weekend or something get the e-mails.

Who knows.

I Am The Bat
08-11-2009, 01:39 PM
But they should really know by now... I mean people like us go CRAZY over this stuff... The sheer existence of SHH or CBR and sites like that should give them a clue about how many people out there who want to participate in these things...

They might have looked at TDK viral and saw how successful that was, so why wouldn't they think that a billion of us wouldn't reply?

On a side note, I noticed all the "Gotham Tonight"s are on HBO on demand... that was cool

Maybe they're going to release a bunch of information at once.

If that were the case then a Marvel :ninja: would have been here by now. Whenever it took us a really long time to figure out clues with TDK we would have a WB :ninja: come in and give us a random clue to what we were trying to figure out.

And then he would never log in again.

Remember what they told us from the e-mail? Basically they told us to wait and stand-by for further instructions.

Still nothing,...

Man, ... I really wonder, even if this was to just start the talk of Iron Man 2 and get people interested in the movie, then why for the elaborate e-mails and telling us to stand by for further instructions?

Also, in the "Job Application" they asked for what days we are available, why ask us, if they know they are not going to go through with the viral games?

I guess right now I am on the fence of why they are making us wait. And there are 2 reasons:

1. They need more time to set up for the next event
or
2. They just did the "job application" thing to get people interested in the movie.

No, if we were missing something they'd give us some sort of clue. Not directly on the boards, but on the page. I've spoken with the people directly responsible for the TDK ARG, and if we were down a blind alley for more than a day, they'd change the game a little to lead us down the right path.

I considered this viral dead like a week ago. :csad:
The TDK viral had absolutely nothing between the game at SDCC and Halloween. We stared at Rory the pumpkin burning down for a few weeks, but even he appeared mid-October. There was NOTHING at all for 2 months, and then there was a crazy amount of stuff until December. Then Heath died :csad: and things were slow until March, and then it got crazy again.

I haven't lost hope entirely... I mean, something has to come from this... Maybe if the questions were all those generic questions (What kind of superhero would you be/What do you see in human kind, etc) then I might suspect nothing to come from it. BUT they had those other questions that require us to look up some stuff... Creating an investment on our part. Once that investment is made, it doesn't go away - When this viral does start it will be like we filled out the application the day before... They are probably gauging the amount of people that will most likely participate (That is probably close to over by now), seeing how much work that will be, preparing, and then implementing the content so that it will coincide and end with the film's release.

Or they could just be blowing smoke up our arses...

Depends on the approach they use, and which characters are involved. A lot of the "fun" stuff was for Joker, and if they don't focus on him during the games, it could be a lot different. There are many ways to go about doing alternate reality games, considering the scope of what can happen on the internet.

I didn't participate in the ARG for The International, but 42E did that one too, and planted real money (like, $200) in cities nationwide as clues. I kinda regret not doing that one. :funny:

To get people interested. Which is a little redundant because they handed them out at SDCC. Everyone there is a comic book fan. Of course they are going to know about Iron Man.

That is why you use the Comic book fans to get the word out about the movie.

What was cool about TDK virals is that at first I didn't know that the content was actually going to be in the movie.

I still remember watching a bootleg of first real trailer and hearing Joker say, "Why So Serious!" which at that time I only thought was a name for the site.

So they had it right because their virals actually made me feel like I was in the movie and understand the content of the movie more.

I don't know if IM II could do that. But I still wish they'd throw us a damn bone here.

I don't think it's dead. At this point, it's unlikely to be as long-lasting as the TDK ARG, which was ridiculously long and had multiple storylines going on (probably the most complicated movie-related ARG so far), but they still have time to set up something.

Star Trek had a small ARG that only lasted a month. Terminator Salvation also had a mini-ARG that was 3-4 months long, but I don't really consider it an ARG. There wasn't actual real-time player participation.

Anyways, they might throw something together for the last few months before release. Who knows. But they have our contact information, so I believe they'll do something with it before the movie comes out. :funny:

Stunning the world's press, amazing captains of industry, delighting a curious public and thrilling children the world over, Tony Stark, CEO of Stark Enterprises announced this week that he was the man behind Iron Man. The mysterious metal-clad behemoth that has battled terrorists, challenged natural disasters, and rescued thousands of people around the world, had people guessing as to his true identity.

Last month, at Stark Headquarters in Southern California, Tony Stark declared that his company founded by his father, will no longer design and manufacture weapons of mass destruction. Stark announced a new era for his company, Stark Enterprises, in which the company would turn its resources to the creation of alternative technology and non-military products. This announcement is a dramatic departure for the company.

Stark arrived at the US Base after being spotted on the steppes near the border of Uzbekistan. Stark was transported by helicopter and treated for his injuries. Tony denies having any substantial injuries or emotional trama [Note: trama is actually spelled trauma] caused from this recent kiddenaping [Note: kidnapping is the correct spelling here]. He instead has been inspired to continue his father's legacy in what he believes to be a greater solution.

I actually found two of the people who "wrote" the article on facebook (only found the one N. King) - and I messaged them...

What I want to know is what Paramount told SHH when they gave the photo. It's obviously not a production still, so it's a "In the world" kind of nod to the fans, but I wonder if they actually said it was a 'clue' or if that was just an editorial addition on SHH's part.

My two cents? The applications will yield some viral/ARG fruit but this is probably just a bit of a set-up for Iron Man 2, but nothing directly for the game.

SHH said it was a "clue" which means "viral game" to me.

Though, SHH didn't really elaborate any, just letting us get into it.

Exactly, SHH said it was a clue. I want to know how Paramount worded it when they gave the picture to them; they could have just sent them a picture and SHH called it a clue. I'll gladly eat crow if I'm wrong - which I'd like to be - but I get the feeling this is just promo stuff.

And as for the apps, I know they've been out a while, but for such a big campaign to let its biggest fans down, I doubt it. I just have a feeling they won't let you down.

Isn't it interesting that both P Buckner and N King have to do something with the Art in the Iron Man movie?

I found them and messaged them on FB :)

[God, I'm sounding like an eternal pessimist.]

I think the end result of everyone messaging these people will be simply contacting key crew in Iron Man 2 or someone who happens to share their name. If the 'clues' led to people from the world within the films, then maybe, but as it is, I think these are just homages to the people that made the film possible.

Don't get me wrong; I admire the candor of those that have messaged them. I just want to bring up the possibility that these 'clues' weren't meant for us to bug these people.

The thing about getting to the bottom of the picture is that I think this is one of those things where Paramount only sends certain outlets certain materials to drum up hits for all websites, and not just one. So no one but SHH would be able to tell us what that photo's purpose really is. Well, Paramount could, but I'm pretty sure they're loving the attention.

So, in effect, I am looking too much into a photo I feel like people are looking to much into. HYPOCRISY ABOUND!

Sounds like SHH is part of this little game too.

Knowing what Paramount said exactly would probably help shed some light on this whole thing.

We posted exactly what we were asked to post :)

Here is a list of anagrams we can make from

S-U-B-S-T-A-T-I-A-L
T-R-A-M-A
K-I-D-D-E-N-A-P-P-I-N-G

My findings could mean nothing...or they could mean everything. I don't know. I'm not an expert at the Iron Man mythology so I don't know if any of his villains practice anti-turnpikeism. I helped out a lot here at SHH during the TDK viral so now I'm back to assist on the Iron Man one.

When did a TDK puzzle ever get solved by looking up every possible anagram between several long words? :funny:

If they want to make this mainstream, it's gotta be more obvious than that. If we don't get it by tomorrow or Saturday, we'll see if they send something else. The puppetmasters never let us flounder around for long, especially if they've got something actually set up for us.

Of course, I could be completely going in the wrong direction, but why spell 3 words wrong in 1 sentence?
I agree, that's strange. but the typos, if we picked them out individually, spell "nude." If we plug that into a URL, it likely will not be related to IM2. :lmao: I guess it could be "dune" as well, but I plugged that at the end of the starkindustriesnow.com URL and got zilch.

The peeps over at Unfiction are also going over the pic in Photoshop, but no dice so far.

How did the TDK viral go? I never paid attention to it so I'm uncertain how these viral games work. I'll bet though that this whole thing getting started now is intended to be the run-up to the teaser trailer being released online.

I think different companies do them different ways. 2012 recently had an ARG where there were fake blogs and Twitter accounts put up by characters. Most of the clues were sent via the blogs, I think. The very first clue was found when someone took the trailer's advice and Googled "2012" and Sony had sponsored a Google link to the first official page in the ARG. :lmao: I don't have official confirmation, but I don't think the 2012 ARG was done by the same people who did the TDK ARG. Different styles, less focus on social networking sites.

TDK's first game was Ibelieveinharveydent.com and Ibelieveinharveydenttoo.com, where the first page was linked to the official site (obvious) and the second page was found when the ARG people tossed Joker cards in various comic book stores with "I believe in Harvey Dent too!" stamped all over them. :funny: And Whysoserious.com was found because they distributed Jokerized dollar bills with "Why so serious?" on them at Comic Con. Everything else basically stemmed from that site.

So far, I don't think we were ever GIVEN something and told, "This is a clue!" so I think that picture that SHH got will get us nowhere. Unless the IM2 folks hired some friggin' lazy game writers. :funny:

Has anyone noticed that while this is a photo of the same article found on Vanko's wall, they also seem to be different copies? This one looks burnt (Whiplash'd?) on the edges and is, for lack of a better word, cropped; the one on Vanko's wall is complete and surrounded by other newspaper articles--not concrete. Not sure if this means anything. But I'm imagining Vanko use his whips to slash the clippings on his wall until all that's left is this cropped, burnt part of this article.

*shrug*

Sounds like they did...
Then I refuse to play until they stop spoonfeeding us stupid things and telling us they're clues. That's totally not the spirit of an ARG. :oldrazz:

We're supposed to "discover" something on our own. That's the fun part.

It's completely safe. =)

As long as we all agree it's the same article found at the top of Vanko's wall in the other picture, and that is indeed RDJ and NOT Ed Norton.
