Kwon Sang-woo has received a lovecall from the Hollywood film "Green Hornet" for the character Kato that was supposed to be Stephen Chow's role. However, because Chow could not speak English, his role went to Kwon.

Asia's star Kwon Sang-woo has been able to break through the language barrier and part take in this film!

It is known that Kwon's English hasn't been perfect throughout the audition with the main actor Seth Rogen, however, it was successful.

The filming will begin this September and will be released in 2010.

Other stars in this film are Nicolas Cage and Cameron Diaz.

Green Hortnet has been a popular radio drama of 1930s and has been made into a film in 1940. It has also been loved as comic books and TV series.

Green Hornet's main character is about a hero who works in a newspaper company as an editor which she inherited from her father and in the night living as a green hornet wearing a black mask defeating enemies.

Kwon's role will be that of a driver of the green hornet. Kwon will be driving Black Beauty which is a top rate automobile.

I just got this in my mailbox from a friend of mine. I'm not sure where she got her source and it does sound a little sketchy. Here's a couple youtube clips of the guy from a movie called Once Upon a Time in High School: The Spirit of Jeet Kune Do

If this is true, it looks like they hired a prettyboy and not someone with martial arts skills. Which means stuntmen will be getting some serious overtime.

Half the fun of watching the TV series was seeing Bruce Lee fighting. I hope this rumor is just that.

i can't believe it's taking this long to actually film the movie. the production time will be short.

It certainly is a troubled production. That doesn't bode well.

They could've just hired Cung Le who knows martial arts and speaks perfect English.

Stephen Chow can speak English. he left The Green Hornet due to scheduling conflicts.

I talked to Cung Le at SDCC. He said he wanted to go in for Kato in Green Hornet.

Cung Le is doing movies now, and he's a great martial artist (he beat Frank Shamrock), and he is an English speaker like Kato and Bruce Lee were.

This actor they are high on clearly is going to be speaking some form of broken ENGRISH or very little.

Doubt it. You know he was the director on the project right? I doubt that was because of scheduling conflicts as well.

Chow stepped down as director in December and was replaced by Michel Gondry. The news about scheduling conflicts is the official word from Columbia Pictures.

That doesn't mean its the LEGITIMATE or REAL word.

doesn't mean that it's not either. the only point I was trying to make was that Chow didn't leave/lose the role of Kato because he can't speak English.

I don't think anyone said that.

They should've seen Cung Le.

Stephen Chow is too old to play Kato--he's twenty-one years older than Bruce Lee was when he played the part. This guy, however, is only six years older (thirty-two to Lee's twenty-six) and, as evidenced by the reference to him as a "prettyboy", looks a bit younger. I don't know if he can speak English, but I doubt they would've hired somebody they couldn't even understand for a major role like that. Also, there was definitely something Lee-ish in his fighting in the second clip.
Then again, this is probably just a rumor.
