View Full Version : Your favourite acting performances?

I'm surprised there isn't a thread like this already to be honest.
What are some of your favourite performances by an actor or actress?
I do have a few favourites but one that has really stood out recently is Tom Hardy's performance in Bronson.
This is truly outstanding. He literally carries the movie, seeing as it is basically a one man show. The movie doesn't really have a engaging plot either to be fair. But his performance alone makes it worth watching.
The performance is just so engrossing, I literally couldn't take my eyes of him. Subtle, extravagant, insane, calm, explosive, simmering, thoughtful, mindless.
Such a varied performance, truly one of the greatest acting performances I have ever, ever scene. No hyperbole. I urge everyone to watch this movie. It won't appeal to a lot of people I imagine, but the actual performance by Hardy is honestly ****ing stunning.

Geoffrey Rush- As Captain Hector Barbossa POTC COTBP.
Alan Rickman- As Severus Snape-All Harry Potter film the man is one of the best Scene stealers who ever performed.
Gary Oldman- Bram Stokers Dracula.
Viggo Mortensen- As Aragorn LOTR All 3 Films.
Robert Downey Jr- Iron Man.
Eric Bana- Troy.
John Malcovich-The Man In The Iron Mask.
Tommy Lee Jones-The Fugative.
Ian McKellan- As Gandalf The Grey.
Russell Crowe - Gladiator.
Love the acting in The Lord of the Rings and Pirates of the Caribbean films.
Elijah Wood as Frodo, Sean Astin as Sam, Ian McKellen as Gandalf, and Andy Serkis as Gollum to name a few. Very believable performances.
Then there's Tom Hollander as Cutler Beckett, Bill Nighy as Davy Jones, Johnny Depp as Jack Sparrow, etc. Even James Norrington and Mr. Gibbs rounded off a great cast. I don't care much for Keira Knightley or Orlando Bloom's performances, however.
Also, some may not agree with me, but I like Shia LaBeouf's acting. It's very raw and suits a lot of different genres.
Edit: The post above mine reminded me of Alan Rickman as Severus Snape, too. Needed more of him in the films; he could have his own spin-off...

I don't get the hatred for Shia LaBeouf either. I've found him very likable in everything I've seen him in. He takes some flack for Transformers, but those movies' crappiness isn't his fault.

Samuel Jackson in Pulp Fiction as Jules Winnfield was brilliant. The best I think he has ever acted and his dialogs were easily quotable/memorable.
Bruce Willis as John McClane in the first Die Hard was great. I think he played the most human action hero to date, his sarcastic humor was hilarious no matter how serious the film got and the dialogs he got were gold, very quotable/memorable.
I'll think of more acting performances.

Yes, indeed. And I thought it was genius on Hitch's part to cast a sort of teen heartthrob, Perkins, as Norman, where in the book he is closer to a "Rod Steiger" type. Come to think of it, kind of a little bit what Nolan did with Heath Ledger.
And speaking about great acting performances, Rod Steiger in In the Heat of the Night.

Not yet, I'll have to add it to my Netflix cue. In fact I'll do that right now while i'm on lunch.
Yeah, he is a good actor, it's just after hearing about his financial problems...I can see why he started taking so many crappy roles.
edit: hahaha. It was already in my que, must have added it earlier in the week. I should be getting the Wicker Man remake tomorrow. That one is mainly for laughs since I heard he really goes a bit overboard with his acting.

Watched it again also a couple days ago and I was once again blown away by the modernity and subtlety of Perkins' performance. One of my favorites of all time as well.
