But professionals are supposed to nit pick about this kind of stuff. That is their job after all and they wouldn't be doing it if they didn't mention it.
The casual person though, isn't going to mind the excessive use of DNR in the Predator blu-ray except for the one scene where Dutch and Dillon meet up.
We frankly live in a day and age where most people don't give a damn about professional opinions.
But is it actually worth forking out for the movie again? Thats my main query, with it being new its full price as well, but done want to buy it if we are going to get a proper re-master sometime down the line like they are doing with Gladiator.

Major piece of news here courtesy of thedigitalbits.com:
"All right... now for that awesome Gladiator news. If you've been reading any of the A/V enthusiast forums in the last 24 hours or so, you may now be aware that Universal has just released the new remastered Gladiator Blu-ray in Holland. Fans will know that the previous U.S. Blu-ray release - a DreamWorks title distributed by Paramount, with elements provided by Universal - featured a (shall we say) somewhat disappointing and recycled high-def transfer. Let me rephrase that: It was an extremely disappointing transfer. Well... the good news is that a brand new 4K transfer of the film was done several months ago with fresh elements, and the title has been re-authored to include it. It's this new transfer that's now available on Blu-ray in Europe, and early word is it's spectacular. Here's a link to a good online screenshot comparison of the new and old Blu-rays. (The first image that appears is the old Blu-ray - roll your cursor over it to see the same shot on the new Blu-ray). As expected, the difference is pretty shocking. You see? There IS a real quality difference when a studio spends a little extra money on the A/V presentation of a Blu-ray to get it right.
Anyway, word (and visual proof of) the new transfer appearing on Blu-ray in Holland has resulted in hundreds of concerned U.S. Gladiator fans e-mailing us in the last day or so, understandably hoping/pleading/begging for any information as to when they might be able to get their hands on the new disc here in the States. So here's the AWESOME news: Paramount Home Entertainment is about to initiate an exchange program for anyone who would like to swap their previous Gladiator Blu-ray for an otherwise identical disc with the new transfer. Here's their official statement:
"We are implementing a limited exchange program. This program is only for those consumers that may have preferential issues with some of the technical DVNR (digital video noise reduction) and EE (edge enhancement) choices made in the original source transfer, and so would prefer to exchange it for one that addresses those preferences in a different manner.
While the version that we originally distributed was of the highest quality, some enthusiasts may prefer to view it without the Edge Enhancement and DVNR implemented as standard process in bringing the film to hi-def. This new master resolves those issues."
[Editor's Note: You can call Paramount Home Entertainment's REVISED customer service hotline number (323-956-3010 - give them a couple days to get things together) to arrange the swap. Replacement discs will be available soon. For those in the U.S. and Canada who don't yet own the disc, a running production change has been initiated, so future copies shipped to retailers will include the new transfer. Rest assured, we'll post details as to exactly how you'll be able to identify the new discs (likely via some kind of packaging marking) when they start becoming available in stores in the coming weeks. And for those of you in other countries around the world, the new disc is being gradually rolled out in each region, so contact your local distributor for the details.
On behalf of Gladiator and Blu-ray fans everywhere, I'd like to send out a big Bits THANK YOU to everyone involved in the decision to do the new transfer, to those talented mastering wizards involved in the actual work (for a job well done!), and to the folks at Paramount for implementing their exchange program. THAT'S how you do right by your customers, and it's very much appreciated.]

How long does a studio need to get a Blu-ray out? Like from the time they say "we will get this movie on blu-ray" to the time where it hits stores, whats the minimum time to do all the film-to-disc transfering and packaging?
And why does it need money to make the transfer better?

But is it actually worth forking out for the movie again? Thats my main query, with it being new its full price as well, but done want to buy it if we are going to get a proper re-master sometime down the line like they are doing with Gladiator.
Predator's 25th anniversary is 2012 so I wouldn't be surprised if we see another Blu-ray dip then from Fox.

So, I was reading the Gladiator thread over at Bluray.com and I think Paramount is going to do a replacement program, which of course sucks since I sold my copy a few months back...agh!!!! But, at least Paramount is doing the right thing here.
Also, ugh@the new color scheme...too bold and intense for my eyes...blah.

Well the first Robocop has been on Blu-ray for quite some time now but it got very mediocre reviews with the quality so hopefully with the trilogy they give us a better version.
The Hangover re-release is gonna be the same disc with different packaging and extra crap thrown in....WB has done this collector's edition think before and it makes sense with The Hangover considering it is the best selling comedy Blu-ray so far.

Predator's 25th anniversary is 2012 so I wouldn't be surprised if we see another Blu-ray dip then from Fox.
No, I wouldnt be surprised either, it is Fox after all, I may wait for a while and then if nothing comes about just get the existing one cheap.

No. I like to have my cases as uniform as possible. I'm oddly and unnecessarily anal like that. So I avoid all digibooks (ugh), and the ONLY steelcase I own is the German import of "Terminator 2: The Ultimate Edition" on HD DVD.

Lionsgate Announces Apocalypse Now Blu-ray
Lionsgate President and Co-Chief Operating Officer Steve Beeks and filmmaker Francis Ford Coppola announced today that Lionsgate and American Zoetrope have entered into a multi-year home entertainment distribution agreement (including Blu-ray). The first title released as part of the deal was Coppola latest film, Tetro; the next one will be the renowned and award-winning war film Apocalypse Now, scheduled for Blu-ray release on October 19.
With new transfers supervised directly by Coppola, Apocalypse Now will come out in two deluxe editions: the 2-Film Set, and the 3-disc Full Disclosure Edition. The 2-Film Set will include both Apocalypse Now - The 1979 Cut and Apocalypse Now Redux and will also include over nine hours of special features. The Full Disclosure Edition will add the seminal making-of documentary Hearts of Darkness, a 48-page collectible booklet and storyboard, photo and marketing archives.
"We are thrilled to be in business with Francis Ford Coppola, one of the greatest filmmakers of our time," said Beeks. "Having directed, produced and written some of the most financially successful and critically acclaimed movies in U.S. cinematic history, Coppola is one of the masters of modern cinema. We are honored to add a selection of his most renowned and personal works to our library and look forward to releasing these titles on all formats."
"With their expertise in the home entertainment marketplace, we consider Lionsgate to be the perfect partner to distribute some of my most enduring films," said Coppola. "We are excited to be collaborating with them and hope to continue to enthrall our existing fans while also reaching a whole new audience for these films by presenting them in the highest quality format available along with exceptional in-depth special features."

I can't wait for the alien blu ray set...........
"And for those of you who may have worried that any of the films will suffer the same DNR-ed fate as the recent Predator Blu-ray, I've heard from multiple sources directly involved now that such fears are unnecessary. All four films have been given brand new HD transfers and the masters reportedly look fantastic. In fact, we've been told that when James Cameron viewed and approved the new Aliens master (Aliens being the most troublesome looking film of the series in the past quality-wise), he was VERY pleased with the results."
Cool news from digitalbits...........plus of course this will have an insane amount of special features and docs.
Great to hear! Can't wait to check out the reviews when it gets close to release time.

Apocalypse Now Blu-ray Detailed, Gets Back Original Framing
http://images3.blu-ray.com/movies/covers/7745_front.jpghttp://images3.blu-ray.com/movies/covers/14093_front.jpg
IGN has the scoop on the full release details for the Apocalypse Now Blu-ray, and they include two welcome surprises. Firstly, Hearts of Darkness, the acclaimed documentary on the grueling shoot of Francis Ford Coppola's classic (included only in the Full Disclosure Edition), will be presented in high-definition 1080p resolution. Secondly, both cuts of Apocalypse Now will be presented in the original theatrical aspect ratio of 2.35:1.
The framing of Apocalypse Now has been the object of a long controversy. The film was shot on Super Technovision (anamorphic 35mm), which has a projected aspect ratio of 2.35:1 (actually, 2.39:1). However, all of the DVD releases of the movie have been in a modified aspect ratio of 2.00:1. Back in 1999, two of the producers of the movie confirmed that it was cinematographer Vittorio Storaro's decision that "for home video + broadcast, he would transfer the film with a slightly modified framing: 2.0:1." Hence, this BD release of Apocalypse Now is the first release (after the LaserDisc) to sport the original theatrical aspect ratio.
Contents include:
2-Film Set

Is Tremors really considered a horror movie? It's more of a comedy...
It's kind of a bit of both. While films like the Evil Dead series and An American Werewolf in London are horror comedies with more horror than comedy, Tremors is the opposite with more comedy than horror.
The fact that it has a monster killing people makes it part of the horror genre in my eyes. Back in the days of VHS and rental places(before Blockbuster and Hollywood video)I always found that film in the horror section as well.

My player is not even connected to the internet so it has never been update before... no problems so far.
I haven't had any problems either but my gf and I are sick of streaming Lost and certain movies in Netflix on her computer screen. I want to be able to do it with my Blu-ray player but it's hell trying to get the connection to work.
Before I got my player I read reviews and a lot of people said the player is really good but the only down side is they all had trouble getting it online too.
Also, does anyone else's Blu-ray player get kind of loud at times when watching a movie?

What model Blu-ray player do you have and can you only connect wirelessly? Can you try connecting with a wire? And if your player gets loud you might wanna try to keep it ventilated more or cooled down...it might just be the fan inside working overtime.

It's an Insignia. The problem is we don't have any other connections for a hard wire, all the router spots are taken I believe.
The good thing is that it doesn't get loud often, the player has a good amount of breathing room so i'm wondering if it's just because it's a cheaper brand.

Which Insignia though whats the model? And if you haven't updated your firmware I suggest always trying that first if you have an issue with playability or compatibility.
Just bought Kick Ass and Diary of a Wimpy Kid on Blu-ray.
Life sucks for me because AMC is NOT in HD where I live. I have to either download HQ or wait for blu-ray for Breaking Bad and Mad Men. I simply cannot watch it in normal standard definition.

Samsung Launches a 50" 3D Plasma for Under $1,000
The PN50C490 comes in at $989, making it the cheapest new 3D set.
Remember back when 3D television was first being brought to market? There was a giant to-do about the price premium you might have to pay for the privilege of owning a 3D set. Samsung just shut that argument down. Samsung's new 50 inch plasma has an MSRP of $1,099 but is available right now on Amazon for just $989. You're not going find another new 3D television at that price, especially one that large.
The downside is that you're looking at a 720p set. Depending on who you ask, the change in resolution from 720p to 1080p doesn't really matter when you're watching 3D. For two dimensional pictures though, it's pretty noticeable at the size.
If you're looking for 1080p, Samsung's new PNC50C680 comes in at around $1,500, while the 58 inch PN58C680 sells for $2,300.
God damn!!
By the time i'm ready to upgrade my TV and really large television won't be all that expensive.

Weird Problem With HDTV..
Every once in awhile, my TV blacks-out for about 6 seconds then it turns back on. Everything will still be playing and normal when it comes back on. It only does this every once in awhile. I'm just wondering why it does that? I have a Sony Bravia and it's hooked up to my PS3. I'm wondering if it's the HDMI cord? It doesn't do this when I'm just watching Direc TV (Direc TV is not HD in btw.) Any help will be appreciated.

Blu-ray of Star Trek: The Next Generation a Possibility
During a presentation at the Star Trek convention in Las Vegas, a question was asked about a Blu-ray release of the Star Trek: The Next Generation series. CBS Consumer Products VP John Van Citters replied that an HD remaster of TNG is "incredibly difficult without making them look awful." However, there are conversations going on within CBS on the issue, and Van Citters expected it to happen eventually.
The Digital Bits (http://www.thedigitalbits.com/#mytwocents) goes into further detail as to why a high-definition remaster of The Next Generation is much more problematic than of the older Star Trek: The Original Series (http://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Star-Trek-The-Original-Series-Three-Season-Pack-Blu-ray/7193/). TNG was shot on film, but all post-production and visual effects were done on standard-definition analog video. As Bits editor Bill Hunt states, "if they just simply digitally upconverted from 480i to 1080p, there's NOBODY who would want to buy that on Blu-ray". Therefore, the only solution left is to scan all the original camera negatives, edit it again in HD, and redo all FX using computer graphics, like CBS did with the remastered versions of The Original Series.

Confirming earlier reports (see blu-ray.com, April 17), George Lucas himself announced today that the Star Wars films will be released on Blu-ray in 2011, in a six-movie box set. Speaking at the Celebration V convention in Orlando, Lucas said: "I wish I could say it was coming out this year, but it will come out next year." New, extensive special features will be included.
One of those special features, a deleted scene from Return of the Jedi, premiered at the convention. In it, Luke Skywalker is seen asembling his new lightsaber before going to the palace of Jabba the Hutt.
In an interview with the New York Times, Lucas said that the saga hadn't been announced before because he was waiting for mass adoption of the Blu-ray format. "We've been wanting to do it as soon as we possibly could, but we just wanted to do it when enough people would be able to buy it and see it, said the filmmaker.
Lucas also clarified that the original trilogy movies will be included as they were shown theatrically in 1997 and released on DVD in 2004 - i.e., the original versions will not be included. "You have to go through and do a whole restoration on it, and you have to do that digitally," he said. "It's a very, very expensive process to do it. So when we did the transfer to digital, we only transferred really the upgraded version."
Wow and people still say that GL isn't greedy and loves to milk things to the end.
He has sooo much ****ing money and the Star Wars series is the only reason why he is know/exists in the film world. Why wouldn't he want to restore the original films that he knows the majority of hardcore SW fans want. He mentions it being very expensive but I think it's more because he just doesn't give a **** about those versions since he said the ones with added CGI was how he originally wanted the movies in regards to scenes and making things more lively like in the Mos Eisley(sp?) scenes.
I just find it funny considering how much work went into The Wizard of Oz a much older film.
Also, don't forget how he's taking the time and the money to convert Star Wars into 3D...too milk it even more. How he treats his SW movies is similar to how Capcom milked the hell out of the Street Fighter series. He needs to move on and actually try to direct something else to see if he is a good director or as I think mediocre at best who came up with a great idea which had ground breaking effects for it's time.

Sure hope it's not the TV... :(
Is it just the screen that blacks out or sound & all? If the problem was soley in the tv then it would do it with anything that you were watching. How old is the PS3? Have you tried using component cables with the PS3 to see if you encounter the same problems? Maybe the HDMI port on your tv has a short in it or something, maybe the HDMI port on your PS3 has a short in it, or maybe it is an internal problem in your PS3 & you need to get it serviced. Did you install the latest firmware upgrade on your PS3?

The sound does not go out, just the screen. And yes PS3 has been upgraded. :woot: And the PS3 is only about 5 months old, bought it brand new, it's the slim model.
The thing is, it only does this once every week or so, that I've noticed anyways.

Speaking as someone who's indifferent to the whole thing, I don't really care anymore. I'm just happy that we got the original versions on DVD back in 2006. That's good enough for me. Lucas can throw whatever the hell he wants at us with the Blu-ray set and I'll probably pick it up regardless.

So? It obviously makes money for him. So why fix it? Look, I agree that Lucas should pay more attention to the originals, and there is no reason why he can't just release anamorphic versions on DVD. However, I'll be just happy with what we'll get. Why? Because I'm not a fan of the original trilogy, I'm a fan of Star Wars, and that all that matters.
That's my two cents anyway:yay:

That's pretty cool of him and since i'm not a hardcore SW/Lucas fan I had no idea at this point since that article was dated the 5th of this month. I thought you meant it was something that happened awhile back that I might have caught already.

To be honest, I enjoy most of the changes that were made in the special editions. The only ones I didn't like were Greedo shooting first (but they switched that back for the 04 DVD, didn't they?), the shoddy looking CG Jabba in ANH (which looks just as bad in both the 97 and 04 versions), and probably most of all, the loud and obnoxious CG alien band in Jabba's palace in "Return of the Jedi". The original version of that scene was so much better in a "less is more" type of way. Who cares if they were puppets?

Troll 2 Dated for Blu-ray
No, that isn't a joke. One of the best worst movies ever made will be stinking up high-definition this October.
In an early announcement to retailers, MGM/UA says 'Troll 2' is coming to Blu-ray on October 5.
The movie is currently ranked #63 in IMDb.com's bottom 100 films of all time and there's no word if 'Troll' will be joining its ugly brother for a Blu-ray release. Specs and supplements have yet to be revealed, but if one bad movie wasn't enough, the release will apparently be a Blu-ray/DVD combo pack for twice the delightful awfulness!
Suggested list price for the Blu-ray is $19.99.

James Cameron Talks Aliens Blu-ray Remaster
During an interview to promote the Avatar theatrical re-release, director James Cameron also mentioned that he had just done "a complete remaster of Aliens" (included in the Alien Anthology scheduled for Blu-ray release on October 26), working with the same colorist with whom he had worked on Avatar. In what is sure to ignite some controversy, Cameron said he had completely removed all noise and grain from the extended version of the film.
The filmmaker said: "It's spectacular. We went in and completely de-noised it, de-grained it, up-rezzed, color-corrected every frame, and it looks amazing. It looks better that it looked in the theaters originally. Because it was shot on a high-speed negative that was a new negative that didn't pan out too well and got replaced the following year. So it's pretty grainy. We got rid of all the grain. It's sharper and clearer and more beautiful than it's ever looked. And we did that to the long version, to the 'director's cut' or the extended play."

Rumor: Lolita, Barry Lyndon Blu-ray in 2011
Sources from Warner Home Video have revealed to The Digital Bits that the studio is currently preparing Stanley Kubrick's Lolita and Barry Lyndon for Blu-ray release in 2011. They will probably be released both separately and also as part of a new Stanley Kubrick Blu-ray Collection box set.
Back in 2007, WHV had released five Kubrick movies on Blu-ray (2001: A Space Odyssey, A Clockwork Orange, The Shining, Full Metal Jacket and Eyes Wide Shut), but not Lolita or Barry Lyndon, despite having the rights to those as well.

Bridge on the River Kwai Blu-ray Announced
Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has officially announced The Bridge on the River Kwai on a Collector's Edition Blu-ray/DVD set, with a release date of November 2. This WWII classic, winner of seven Academy Awards, has received a 4K restoration from the original negatives, with newly-restored 5.1 audio.
The near-final restoration was recently shown at the Plaza Classic Film Festival in El Paso, Texas, and will be shown at the London Film Festival in October. Grover Crisp, Sony senior VP for restoration and mastering, spoke about Kwai with El Paso Times. Crisp said that the restoration gives back to the film "its original 2:55:1 aspect ratio," as the film had been "cropped and changed to 2:35:1 shortly after CinemaScope started." Crisp added: "That's another kind of little joy I think in doing something like this. We get to see it the way they actually shot it." The gift set includes a 32-page book with photos and stories from the 1957 souvenir book, and replicas of original lobby cards.
All-new special features include:
* Never-before-released archival footage of The Steve Allen Show with William Holden
* William Holden-narrated Premiere audio with photos
* Graphics-in-Picture track: Crossing the Bridge

Metropolis Blu-ray Announced
lKino Lorber has announced that it will release Metropolis on Blu-ray on November 16. Fritz Lang's 1927 science-fiction masterpiece will be presented with 25 minutes of lost footage and the original Gottfried Huppertz score, performed by the Rundfunk Symphony Orchestra, Berlin, conducted by Frank Strobel, in DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1.
When it was first screened in Berlin on January 10, 1927, Metropolis ran an estimated 153 minutes. After its premiere engagement, in an effort to maximize the film's commercial potential, the film's distributors (UFA in Germany, Paramount in the US) drastically shortened the film, which had been a major disappointment at the German box office. By the time it debuted in the United States later that year, the film ran approximately 90 minutes (exact running times are difficult to determine because silent films were not always projected at a standardized speed).
The most recent restoration of the film (that of 2001) combined footage from four archives and ran at 124 minutes; at the time, it was widely believed to be the most complete version of Metropolis possible.
However, in 2008, the curator of the Buenos Aires Museo del Cine discovered a 16mm dupe negative that was considerably longer than any existing print: it included no less than 25 minutes of "lost" footage never seen since its 1927 Berlin debut. This called for a new restoration, executed by Anke Wilkening of the Murnau Stiftung (Foundation) -the German institution that is the caretaker of virtually all pre-1945 German films-, Martin Koerber, Film Department Curator of the Deutsche Kinemateque and on the music side, by Frank Stoebel.
This new 147-minute version (being released as The Complete Metropolis) premiered at the Berlin Film Festival, and then opened theatrically in April 2010 earning over $350,000 at the box office. Since its original restoration, Metropolis has gone on to earn $1,000,000 in theatrical ticket sales.
It has been noted that the integration rediscovered footage in the movie cannot be seamless: "The rediscovered sections which change the film's composition," said Ms Wilkening, "and at the same time always be recognizable through their damages as those parts that had been lost for 80 years."
The special features of the Blu-ray include:
* Voyage to Metropolis, a 50-minute documentary on the making and restoration of the film (in HD)
* Interview with Paula Felix-Didier, curator of the Museo del Cine, Buenos Aires, where the missing footage was discovered
* 2010 re-release trailer
The Wiz Blu-ray Announced
Universal Studios Home Entertainment has announced that, on November 30, it will release the 1978 Sidney Lumet movie The Wiz, a re-imagining of the Wizard of Oz tale, based on the Broadway musical of the same title, starring Diana Ross and Michael Jackson. It will be presented in a single-sided BD50 disc, with a 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio soundtrack.
The only special feature listed is the featurette Wiz on down the Road.
The Score Best Buy Exclusive Blu-ray
Paramount's 2001 crime thriller The Score, starring Robert De Niro and Edward Norton, will be released on August 31, exclusively at Best Buy. No release details are available, nor is there any information as to the duration of the exclusivity window.
Thus, next week will be the most exclusive-heavy ever as far as Blu-ray is concerned, with two other titles as BB exclusives: Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy and Deep Blue Sea.

Toshiba Could Have Glasses-Free 3D Ready This Year
Rumors from Japan say a 21 inch model may hit by this holiday season!
The whole 3D thing is exciting, but it's clearly an imperfect technology. The need for expensive glasses is a big problem, and having to wear an accessory – even if it were a cheap one – in order to watch movies is just annoying. That's why companies are rushing to capture the glasses-free market.
Progress is on the way with the Nintendo 3DS and a rumored cell phone, but Toshiba's looking to go a little bigger. According to rumors from a few different Japanese media outlets, Toshiba has a 21 inch glasses-free display in the works.
Pricing is expected to somewhere in the thousands. As you might expect, a spokeswoman from Toshiba gave the usual response of "We are not in a position to make any announcement."

Nope, dont have the dvd. I did see the first movie not too long ago. Price seems good and would make for a good blind buy
When you say the 'first one' you don't mean Episode 1 right? (You've probably heard what people think of the prequels, so I won't bother here. Let's say I don't think they represent Star Wars well if you're never seen them.)

Eight Exclusive Lionsgate Blu-ray Titles at Best Buy This Sunday
Best Buy is going full steam ahead with Blu-ray exclusivity deals. The latest addition is a wave of catalog titles from Lionsgate Home Entertainment, slated for general release on October 5, but which will be available on BB shelves from August 29: 2001 Maniacs, Bad Lieutenant, The Blair Witch Project, Hard Candy, High Tension, Open Water / Open Water 2: Adrift, Secretary, and Wonderland.
Going from the leaked images from BB's weekly ad, prices are set at $7.99 to $9.99, which is very good pricing for exclusive titles.
Sony Planning 3D Spider-Man Home Release
In an article talking about how Sony is working on 3D televisions that don't require you to wear glasses, The Associated Press mentions that Sony Pictures is planning a 3D home release for director Marc Webb's Untitled Spider-Man Film:
Sony said it will start selling in Japan next month two films and two music videos in 3-D, and planned home software of 3-D theater releases, including a 3-D "Spider-Man" opening in 2012.
While it is unknown how popular 3D TV sets will be in 2012, one would think that the 3D Blu-ray for James Cameron's Avatar coming in 2011 and other big titles coming soon will help.
Sony's new Spidey movie is expected to start shooting in Los Angeles this December. Starring Andrew Garfield, the movie is scheduled for a July 3, 2012 release.

Thanks!
I also love all this talk of 3D TVs that don't require the glasses. Not sure how long Sony has been working on it but I know Nintendo(innovaters as always)have their new non-glasses 3D handheld system coming out soon.
I'm not big on 3D due to it being a gimmick but it is cool to be able to watch a 3D film occasionally without the glasses.

Well the thing that really saddens and frustrates me about the whole 3D thing is that studios are really ****ing it up. Studios are trying to give movies a post 3D transfer which looks like garbage because its cheap and quick and just gives them a reason to sell tickets at a higher price. And that is making a lot of people hate 3D because why should they have pay more money for that? Also I would say most of the general movie goers have no clue about the differences between a movie shot with 3D cameras and the post production 3D movies. The studios are really shooting themselves in the foot they need to stop confusing people and stick with GOOD 3D instead of trying to use it as a quick cash-in. It will never take off if they keep it up the way they are.

I agree. I saw Avatar in 3D because of the step forward James Cameron did with it. It sucks that all the greedy studios are doing it half assed just to make extra money.
Although I said in my last post I don't really care for 3D, it still will be cool to watch a 3D film in the near future without the glasses...if it's worthwhile 3D. A great example would be the sequel to Avatar, see it in quality 3D without having the colors darkened/muddled.
I do feel sorry for everyone who saw Clash of the Titans in 3D. I read about that and my gf and I saw it in 2D instead. I don't have any plans to see any other 3D films in the future either, other than the Avatar sequel maybe.

I have yet to go see a movie in theaters in 3D. But I can certainly say I am excited to go and see the next Spider-Man in 3D if they are shooting with actual 3D camers and not giving it a cheap post production 3D.

Spider-Man could very well be a fun and worthy 3D movie but i'm going to skip the 3D versions for Thor, Capt. A and The Avengers. Don't know why, but Spider-Man just seems more appealing to me in 3D.

I refuse to watch Lawerence of Arabia until one of two things happens.
1. I get that once in a lifetime opportunity to see it in a theater with a 70mm print.
2. It comes out on Blu-Ray.
Anyone know when this is happening?

Goddddd daaaamn. Now if only every Blu-ray release got that kind of treatment that The Sound of Music is getting.
...and Lighthouse...I am sure it will eventually come out. Sony actually advertised it as coming to Blu-ray 3 years ago. I do know the 50th Anniversary of Lawrence of Arabia is 2012 so maybe they are holding out for that 50th Anniversary release.

I'm tempted to by Beauty and the Beast, it's one of favorite Disney films from their later years.

Report: Lion King, Beauty and the Beast 3D Blu-ray in 2011
According to a "knowledgeable source" quoted by Hollywoodinhidef, Walt Disney Studios is converting The Lion King to 3D with a view to a 3D Blu-ray release in the fall of 2011 (coinciding with the advertised Diamond Edition Blu-ray). Beauty and the Beast is already converted, and also could get a 3D Blu-ray release in late 2011, after a 3D theatrical re-release earlier that year.

Bob Gale: Back to the Future Blu-ray Looks “Breathtaking”
During an interview on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of Back to the Future, Bob Gale, BTTF creator, producer and co-writer, said he had seen the movie projected days ago and he thought "it looks so good, so much better than it did in 1985", when it opened in theaters.
He further explained: "When they did the remastering for the Blu-ray they spent over 400 hours doing dirt cleanup, and almost another 200 hours doing color correction, so the movie looks better than it ever did." When a film is shown at the theater, "you have the print going through the projector, it picks up dirt, gets scratched and with the digital technology these guys fixed almost all of that stuff, and it just looks breathtaking."
Awesome! I have that badboy preordered and can't wait to check it out.

When it comes to animation the 3D post conversion can be more effective. It is just when it comes to live action post production 3D it can look cheap and awful. It also all depends on the time and money you are able to put into it. Clash of the Titans literally only had a few months for it to be worked on...it was a last minute decision by WB. I know James Cameron is working on converting Titanic to 3D and you can bet your sweet ass he is going to get the time and money to do it and I am pretty sure it will end up looking very well done.

When a film is shown at the theater, "you have the print going through the projector, it picks up dirt, gets scratched and with the digital technology these guys fixed almost all of that stuff, and it just looks breathtaking."

Ah, well, that's good to know, Disney usually puts the proper work into these type of things. I mostly just don't care about 3D and don't care to spend extra money just for it.
Oh, he's killing me. Can it just be October now? I've been watching the movies again on DVD this week and I can't wait to get the blu-rays even more now.

At least we know they should get the right aspect ratio this time around unlike the first release of that DVD boxset where they had to replace people's copies if you had the proof of purchase or something.

Yeah, it was something with the framing on BTTF2, which I watched last night and the audio sounded terrible for some reason, so now I'm even happier the blu-rays are coming out soon.

It isn't code for anything...it is wait and see. Could WB just cheap out and just toss the current versions of Lethal 1 & 2 into the boxset? Sure anything is possible but I seriously doubt they would do that otherwise there is going to be a lot of pissed of Blu-ray enthusiasts. They at the very least are going to bump the audio to lossless. But we can only guess at this point until it is officially announced and detailed.
And just FYI the current Lethal Weapons don't look awful they just look mediocre and have Dolby Digital only but they are upgrades visually IMO.
And Batman Begins is a really random, odd example. That was released on HD-DVD only in 2006 (The very beginning of the format war when the technology was new) and was simply ported over onto Blu-ray in 2008...WB never claimed they remastered it for Blu-ray.

Depends on what your priorities are when it comes to purchasing a movie. I would say those 3 you purchased are definitely A grade Blu-ray's in terms of visual and audio quality. Most of the time when its a newer release then it is usually safe to say you will be impressed by the visual and audio quality. It is when it comes to the catalog titles where the results can be very mixed.

I usually end up going to http://www.blu-ray.com/ and look at the reviews. A few people who post in here got me going to that site a lot before I make a purchase.

With those specific movies I just said F it and bought them due to the deal. At the very least they'll still be a bit better than the DVD so I just upgraded. A lot of them weren't huge movies anyways. The kind of films that if it weren't for that deal I would have never upgraded them from DVD.

In English:
There TWO different and completely seperate packaging alterations that denote the 4k remastered version:
The original packaging alteration removed the 2-Disc Set from above the Paramount logo on the cover art but the UPC is still white. DO NOT, I SAY AGAIN DO NOT USE THE SLIPCOVER AS THE INDICATOR.
New inventory being sent to retailers will have a yellow UPC. THE COPIES WITH A YELLOW UPC WILL STILL HAVE THE WORDS "2-DISC SET" ABOVE THE PARAMOUNT LOGO
ONCE AGAIN, THERE ARE TWO DIFFERENT AND COMPLETELY SEPERATE PACKAGING ALTERATIONS.

I actually don't have a HD tv yet, I started my Blu-Ray collection because I realized if there's a time to get newly released movies in the bets format it's now. Blu-Ray now has all the extra features as well as exclusives DVD's don't get anymore and I love having my extras on my movies. I made the upgrade official with Kick-Ass when I realized the DVD barely had anything while the Blu-Ray had a bunch of extras as well as the DVD itself and a digital download. All new movies that come out from 2009 and on I'll buy on Blu-Ray and with certain exceptions I'll go back and re-buy certain movies (such as Batman Begins) because I love them so much. I have a PS3 so I'll be able to see them and the way I see it is once I do get a HD tv that I'll have a whole new experience to go through when re-watching all these Blu-Rays that I have in my collection.

I think a lot of people hate them because they stick out like a sore thumb in their collection. I, however, don't care and think they're kind of neat :o
I think they look great but don't want them . I try to organize my collection by genre on the shelf .

The trilogy pack didnt have extras?
And this Spidey 2 doesn't come with the 2.1 version?
They didn't have extras but SM2 was the extended(2.1) version .

But did Spidey 3 have extras? because that was the separate release...
Or is the Spidey 3 in the trilogy pack a different one?

SM1 extras are great and really make me wanna get it, I'm confused on what SM2 has to offer extra wise though. Does it literally have nothing added??

The DVD release of SM2 has a lot of extras. The only time it's been released on Blu, it was released in a trilogy pack where both it and the first were barebones as far as extras go. Now, they're being released standalone with all the DVD extras, and maybe a few high def extras

Hmm.
Anyone think the trilogy pack will drop in price once those new individual releases get out?

I'd say they should since now the individual movies have more to offer then a combo pack with movies only but I can see the combo staying the same price.

Hmmm wonder if they will include a teaser for the next Spider-Man. Seems kind of early to release them and not take any advantage of marketing the next Spidey.

Unless they film something similar to the Helicopter getting caught in the webbing between the WTC then I doubt it. The new movie doesn't come till 2012 and I'm not even sure if they'd even have started filming yet.

They don't start actually filming till December that is correct which is why I am slightly confused. Seems like a no-brainer to do some cross promotion with the next Spidey but too soon for it.
Spider-man 1&2 are finally being released separately WITH EXTRAS.

Actually it's almost ingenious. Thank of the possible money they can make from the fanboys who will re-rebuy it if they release it again down the road with the advertisement that it has sneak peak footage of the new Spider-Man. We all know these companies love to milk it.
