That's actually what there doing with Iron Man 2 on Blu-Ray, apparently it'll have footage from Thor and Captain America as sneak peak footage

Well that would make sense to if it is added via BD-Live but it being exclusive would be a key factor. If the teaser gets released online then is available on the Blu-rays would be kind of a wasted chance for Sony to cash-in.

They probably lied so that somebody would finally actually "want" to get Clash of the Titans, even if it wasn't for the movie itself:oldrazz:

These previews usually are 5 to 10 min deals that only show you a LITTLE... like concept art or such.

if its real footage it would go up on youtube anyway

Does anyone know the name or term for that type of TV that has that speed difference?

I used to know what it's called but I forget. I ask because my gf and I went over to a friend's house and were watching a Blu-ray of theirs(not to mention Ronin was on TV(HD channel) beforehand and every scene moved like it was exactly like a TV show, more accurately a ****ing soap opera. It was terrible. I forget what it's called but it's a speed/resolution difference that some TVs have.

Motion Flow is just a setting on HDTVs. You can turn it off in the settings menu on the TV.

I have that setting on my projector. It is called 120hz and it is supposed to reduce motion blur and judder. The standard for movies is 60hz so yes it can have an unnatural look. For my projector I have tested it out and it is has a low, medium, and high setting. The high setting is just awful it almost makes it look like the movie is being fast forwarded. The low and medium setting are much more acceptable. The feature only really works IMO with films shot on an actual handheld camera for example a film like Cloverfield. I was under the impression I would be able to use the feature for when I watch football games but it is only for 24fps material so basically just can use it for my Blu-ray collection not when I watch football games.

Thanks for the replies.

I remember my manager and I checked that option out at Best Buy during lunch one day. He was saying how it looks weird watching sports games with that turned on.

I need to let my other buddy know that he can turn it off or down if he wants. Him and his girlfriend didn't mind it but my gf and I were thinking wtf for the first 10-15 minutes of the film we were watching.

hold up, Those films are coming to Bluray? How did I miss that. I held off as well bc what was released was bare bones. People told me they most likely wouldnt get an individual release till the next movie came out.

I didn't feel that this question deserved it's own thread so i'm asking this in here. Just a fun question to see what people's responses are.

If you had company over(family and/or friends)and were trying to convince them to upgrade to Blu-ray, what 5-10 movies that you own would be the ones to show off to them?

Motion Flow is just a setting on HDTVs. You can turn it off in the settings menu on the TV.

I used to think the whole blu ray was supposed to do this because the first one I watched was transformers. Now it will happen sporadically . I'm probably the only one here that likes it and is trying to figure out why it doesnt do it so often :o

Black Friday Predictions: Blu-ray Players with Netflix at $69, Movies at $5-$10
A Black Friday forecast from deal reporting site Dealnews predicts that Netflix-enabled Blu-ray players (a "must-have item" this year) will hit $69. Less full-featured BD players are expected to hit $49. On the software side, the site forecasts that older titles will be available for $5, whereas "relatively new releases" will be found for as little as $10. Blu-ray movies bundled with TVs are also expected.

Criterion Blu-ray in December: Cronenberg, Del Toro
After the bonanza of Blu-ray titles that The Criterion Collection is lavishing upon film enthusiasts in September-November, the studio's December slate looks comparatively spare. Two movies have been announced for Blu-ray release on December 7: Cronos (Guillermo del Toro, 1993) – with a transfer supervised and approved by Del Toro and cinematographer Guillermo Navarro –; and Videodrome (David Cronenberg, 1993) in its unrated version.

Special features include:

Cronos

* Two audio commentaries:
o Guillermo del Toro
o Producers Arthur H. Gorson and Bertha Navarro and coproducer Alejandro Springall
* Geometría: an unreleased 1987 short horror film by Del Toro, finished by the director in 2010, plus a new video interview with him
* Welcome to Bleak House: a video tour by Del Toro of his office, featuring his collectibles and personal work
* New video interviews with Del Toro, Navarro, and actor Ron Perlman
* Video interview with actor Federico Luppi

PS3 Firmware 3.50 with 3D Blu-ray Support on September 21
During the Tokyo Game Show, Sony Computer Entertainment revealed that support for the Blu-ray 3D format will be added to the PS3 console with firmware version 3.50, slated for release on September 21 - the day before the opening of the CEDIA consumer electronics fair. That's a bit earlier than the latest availability estimate of October, given by Sony CEO Sir Howard Stringer just a fortnight ago.

Warner Announces Six 3D Blu-ray Titles for General Release
Alleviating the scarcity of 3D Blu-ray titles at retail, Warner Home Video has announced that on November 16 it will release six 3D BDs unfettered by exclusive hardware bundles: Cats and Dogs: The Revenge of Kitty Galore (WHV's first 3D day-and-date title), Clash of the Titans, The Polar Express, and the IMAX documentaries Deep Sea (previously Sony-exclusive), Space Station (previously bundled with LG hardware overseas) and Under the Sea (previously LG-exclusive).

"This is an exciting time in the industry and we are thrilled to be a part of this evolution in home entertainment," said Dorinda Marticorena, SVP of worldwide marketing and high-def. "As sales of Blu-ray 3D hardware increase during the holidays, we wanted to ensure that consumers have access to a diverse selection of 3D content, not attached to an exclusive bundle, which will showcase the amazing possibilities of this brilliant new format – and this is just the beginning.

All these 3D Blu-ray releases will include 2D BD versions of the films. Clash and Cats & Dogs 2 will come in BD/DVD/Digital Copy combo packs. The latter will include as a bonus "Coyote Falls," a new Looney Tunes short - animated in 3D.

Harsh Times, The Matador, Derailed Announced on Blu-ray
Through a retailer alert, Vivendi Visual Entertainment has announced three catalog films for release on Blu-ray in December: Harsh Times (starring Christian Bale) on the 7th, The Matador (starring Pierce Brosnan and Greg Kinnear) on the 21st, and Derailed (starring Clive Owen and Jennifer Aniston) on December 28. All three had been previously released by The Weinstein Company in 2006-2007 on the defunct HD DVD format.

If it's movies and the like, you don't have to be there when they open, at least in my experience. I would end up going at like 7am after the big rush and still come out with all the software I was looking for. If it's big ticket items then the night before, you'd probably have to camp out.

Although, if it's software stuff, then Amazon will be sure to match whatever the big stores put in their ads. They will either do a lightning deal every four hours during the whole week and then a big sale on Black Friday itself. At least, that's how they did it last year. I was able to get everything I wanted from Amazon last year.

Agreed. I remember being in Best Buy a few years back, and their crazy Black Friday sale didn't end until 1pm, and I was there at noon and grabbed a bunch super-cheap DVDs as part of their Black Friday sale.

And I've done Toys R Us on Black Friday - we didn't get there until 10:30am, and we still got a ton of great deals. The store was insane, but there was no need for us to be there any earlier.

Blu-ray deals on Amazon are really good on Black Friday too. If you go on Bluray.com, they usually have all the good BF deals listed right from their site.

Big ticket stuff that's super-cheap I would say get there at opening, because that will disappear. But if you're looking for movies or games, you're usually good for early in the morning.

I'd say be there before that, as most places give tickets out for the big ticket items and they start at the beginning of the line, so if your far back in the line then you'll most likely be out of luck.

PS3 Gets 3D Blu-ray Support - but without Lossless Audio
As announced last week new firmware version 3.50 is now available for the PlayStation 3, which enables support for the Blu-ray 3D specification on all incarnations of the PS3 console. However, Sony Computer Entertainment has confirmed that DTS-HD and Dolby TrueHD won't be supported on the PS3 during 3D Blu-ray playback.

Thus, when playing back a 3D BD with a DTS-HD Master Audio soundtrack, the PS3 will output DTS. When playing back a 3D BD with a Dolby TrueHD soundtrack, the PS3 will output Dolby Digital. This affects both PCM output and bitstreaming (available on slim consoles only).

As previously reported BD-Java on the PS3 is also limited when playing back 3D BD content.

Joshua Wingfield, Blu-ray.com news contributor and moderator of the 3D subforum, posted an early hands-on report and informed: "I can confirm that with the Ps3 3.50 firmware update it only puts the audio out as DTS standard (lossy) in the bitstream mode. Also the menus on Coraline are flattened to 2D. Subtitles still show up in 3D mode, and so do menus. The image just flattens. Standard DTS is output by bitstream and linear PCM works as well but it still shows it as lossy DTS in the info bar on the PS3. So for now 3D on the PS3...full 1080p to each eye, but no HD audio and no 3D on menu screens or pop up menus. Can't say I'm disappointed. The update was free and the speed on the PS3 doesn't seem to be affected."

Have you tried removing it & sticking it back in? Do you have an extra HDMI port on your tv to try? Did you download anything on your PS3 that could have messed it up like the new 3-D firmware upgrade? Have you tried a different HDMI? Worst case senario, maybe the HDMI port tore up or something & you will need to service your tv.

I can understand why you guys would be frustrated but I have no idea why you guys are surprised and confused...it makes perfect business sense what Sony is doing. Let me break it down again for you guys.

1. Sony released a boxset of the Spider-Man films and Spider-Man 3 on its own. Spider-Man 3 also got bundled in with a lot of PS3 systems. So there are people out there that got stuck with Spider-Man 3 and couldn't buy the first 2 without buying the third so they held off until the first 2 were released individually which is what is happening now. Sony is just breaking up the boxsets to give those people who got stuck with Spidey 3 the chance to finally pick up the first 2...and wisely right around the same time the buzz for Spidey 4 is happening.

2. This strategy is nothing new...it is called milking a franchise. EVERY studio has done it and will do it again. Sony knows that hardcore Spidey fans will buy any new release of the films so they are taking advantage of that. Why would Sony sell the cow when they can milk it dry? If you were in the same position as Sony you would likely do the same thing.

3. I have said this over and over and over again and again...and this ties into the whole milking of the franchise. Sony has Spider-Man 4 coming out soon. Why would they waste the opportunity to market a whole new boxset with all the extras and probably some movie cash and maybe even exclusive footage thrown in? It makes no business sense. I mean I hate to break it to you guys but its things like this that keep the movie business going on strong.

Well like I said when the boxset was released and I will keep saying it. You are just waiting for special features. I have had the trilogy for close to 2 years now and I don't regret my purchase one bit.

Funny thing is that for a number of years now I don't have much of an interest for special features anyways.

I'm split now if I want to preorder again or not. The main reason is because, although I don't watch special features all that much anymore, it is nice to have them in case I may ever feel like giving them a look.

I think i'll just buy them anyways since it would be great to have these two films in HD.

My Magnovox Blu-Ray player that had been playing pretty well up until now has recently started freezing & skipping pretty badly, I took it apart & cleaned the lasers with a cotton swab dipped in alchohol but that didn't seem to help. Everything seems to play fine for about an hour or a little over & thats when the problems start happening, does anyone know what I could do to save my player?

Does Blu-Ray really make animated shows that much better?? I'm curious since I've never seen one.

Yeah, I mean, it does what HD does for everything else. Makes colors more vivid and defined and increases detail.

Well it would make sense considering its the 60th anniversary next year.

Yeah, it's referred to as the 60th Anniversary Edition apparently. I guess that's why they didn't release it for Burton's film, though they randomly re-released it on DVD for it again.

Rumor: James Cameron Working on Abyss Blu-ray
The Digital Bits is reporting that, according to "multiple independent sources, including reliable industry insiders," James Cameron has been (or it about to begin) working on a new high-def transfer and master of The Abyss, presumably with the aim of releasing it on Blu-ray. The Bits also says that one of its readers recently asked Cameron specifically about this title, and the Canadian filmmaker replied that he was about to start work on a new transfer "using the same process he did with the Aliens Blu-ray."

I'm still not fully experienced with aspect ratios and was wondering if anyone else had the same problem I had when watching Season 1 of The Twilight Zone on Blu-ray.

When i'm watching it, there aren't just bars at the top and bottom of the screen but on the sides as well. Not sure if that's normal due to the way it was filmed back then or if it's my TV. Although I switched the options around from Widescreen format to Letterbox it might just be my TV itself since it's older. I have an HD flatscreen but it's not widescreen, it's still a square shape.

The original aspect ratio for the first season of The Twilight Zone is 1.33:1 which means you should see black bars on the sides and not the top and bottom. This is somewhat common for older television shows for example The Simpsons Season 13 is also on Blu-ray and it has this same aspect ratio. This may be slightly annoying but that is how it was intended to be seen. If you stretch out the image to fit the screen the image could look a little oddly stretched or information might be cut because of it. Like you said you could just play around with the options that changes the pictures and see if you can find something that you personally find better but chances are you are going to get just a zoomed in picture and some of the picture will be removed from the top and bottom.

My current system is a Sharp DT-510 (720p) and a 92" Elite Screen.

One thing to consider about Plasma is that there is always a chance of burn-in, although today's technology regarding Plasma is getting better, just be aware that it could happen.

Only thing I don't trust about LCD or LED screens is that they have that angle problem from everything i've read. If you have a group of friends over to watch something, not all of them are going to be able to look at the TV straight on so if they're at an angle the colors change and it distorts the picture a bit. Have they fixed this at all?

So RedIsNotBlue and Downhere, you both have 92" televisions? That's awesome, I could only find an 80" at Best Buy the other day.

By the way, how good is the resolution on a projector TV? I just want whatever TV I get to make the films I watch look as perfect as possible. I already know about those discs you can get that help you calibrate your TV too.

Sorry if i'm asking too many questions here. I try over at Bluray.com sometimes but a number of times they go unanswered.

Otherwise, an LCD is just fine

However big your projector can make the picture. They sell screen's that are as large as 150 inches if you got the room.

I still don't get how it's possible for that setup to look better than an actual HD TV though.

Why is it hard to understand? Same concept as a tv just it is projected onto a screen from the opposite direction. And the better the video quality of the disc the better it will look on a bigger screen...for example The Dark Knight which had filmed parts of the film specifically for an IMAX screen and we all know how big those screens are.

It's not hard to understand, I'm a little out of touch so forgive me if they've advanced big time but last time I checked projectors project onto a wall in your house or the pull down kind of screen. If it gives off just as good of a picture as the HD TV's then that's cool.

So have the LCD/LED TV's fixed that angle viewing problem because that's one of the main reasons i'm looking into getting a Plasma more.

Yep exactly same concept as going to a movie theater and my screen isn't a pull down it is one that is mounted on the wall like an actual movie theater screen. My Tivo is also hooked up to the projector so I am also able to watch TV shows in HD if I wanted to. The projector projects the film onto a screen except instead of using film you are using a Blu-ray disc. HD is HD and 1080p is 1080p no matter what the screen size. Like I said the better quality of a disc the better it will look on a larger screen and the bad quality discs you might end up seeing the flaws more obviously the larger the screen size.

I have wondered about projectors too... I suppose your room has to be really dark to get the best possible picture?

To get the best possible picture quality, you would not want there to be lights on. You can have a low light on an opposite corner and still enjoy the image but you don't want to go beyond that.

With a projector, you have to put a little more thought into your room. I painted my screen wall a dark chocolate brown, which makes the native contrast of the image pop more. Whenever I watch movies I turn the lights off and the image I get is phenomenal. Mind you, I "only" have a 720p projector, yet the image looks perfectly natural and clear with a high level of detail and a nice 3D-ish pop (which is the nice thing about DLP projector's).

Using a projector looks exactly like when you are at the theater and compared to regular TV's, I'd say there's nothing like having a projector. Anything over 80 inches just squashes any HDTV out there, the size makes you feel like your at the theaters not at home. To me, I feel more involved with the bigger screen.

So, I say, if you have the room, the patience, and the finances, go front projection...you won't regret it.

Eeek, I sound like a salesman. lol.

I know this and I find it stupid. Making movies exclusive to buying a whole TV setup is retarded. Offering the movie as a free perk to buying a whole TV would make more sense while at the same time selling the movie BY ITSELF exclusively at a store like Best Buy.

As far as the glasses free 3DTV's they are only making them in small sizes right now. And you wouldn't have to start a whole new format 3D Blu-ray's should work on those just fine. If they really want 3D to take off they need to have the content available to all, not just those who buy a certain TV. Samsung has been doing it with Monster's vs. Aliens and soon the Shrek films. Sony will have Alice and Wonderland and Panny will have Avatar. It's pretty much a dumb situation.

The only hope is for these companies to drop the exclusivity next year and let the studio's offer these movies to the masses instead of with a specific TV. Then, maybe they can salvage 3D but at this rate it will become another fad like it has been in the past.

Either way I'm not worried about it as there are not any good solutions in the projector world for me to worry about 3D. Cheapest option coming up is the new JVC projector's which will run at $4500+. So, it will be some time before I were to consider 3D, not to mention, I can't even watch a 3D movie for that long without feeling odd. lol. The effect can be cool but not sure if it's worth the hassle.

Optoma Provides a 3D Solution for 720p Projectors
The 3D-XL converter allows 720p output of 1080p 3D Blu-rays.

There's nothing wrong with going 720p, especially if you're one of those that shelled out for a nice projector before 1080p really kicked in. If you're primarily playing videogames and watching television, the resolution difference doesn't even matter for most content.

But 3D is a different story. If you're hoping to enjoy 3D Blu-rays on your 720p projector, you'll be in for disappointment unless you pick up the new 3D-XL converter from Optoma.

The 3D-XL takes that HDMI 1.4 1080p signal from your Blu-ray player and converts it into a HDMI 1.3 720p signal that your projector can understand. You'll still need a projector that does 120Hz of course, but as long as you've got that – and the appropriate 3D accessories like glasses and a transmitter – you'll be ready to go.

That's not bad, if only there was content to be had. lol. :oldrazz: But for me to put money into that I'd rather put it towards a new projector. But, I can wait for now.

3D TV doesn't offer enough for me right now to invest. The idea is cool (sometimes) and I think 3D PS3 games would be great (Killzone 3) but basically I'd have to buy the Best Buy bundle, I don't need the BD player but the glasses are so expensive on their own, and its just a lot of money right now to watch a handful of titles that don't interest me

The other thing about 3D displays is that I would want the option to convert 2D material as well, like with the Samsung models. While, it may not work with some content, I'm sure it may be cool for some films that are more action oriented. I'd at least like to have the option, but I'm not sure how that would work with projector's.

Ok, another dumb question from your Hi-Def idiot Figs.

When i'm watching The Dark Knight, the Imax shots aren't going fullscreen like they're supposed to. My TV is 1080i and to get the shots to go full screen I have to switch it to 480p, all other resolution options don't work. Do I actually need a 1080p television to view this the proper way with better resolution? It just sucks having to watch **** resolution if I want the Imax scenes to go full screen.

It shouldn't really matter whether you have a 1080i or 1080p tv. Are both your tv & blu-ray player set to 16x9 aspect ratio? What size tv are you using? It might help if you could take pictures of how the screen looks when you are watching The Dark Knight IMAX scenes in 1080i mode. There shouldn't be any black bar visible in the IMAX scenes except on some smaller tvs, but when it goes back to its original aspect ratio of 2:40 there will be black bars.

Nope they plan to milk the hell out of it. The 3D Blu-ray version will be packaged with certain 3D HDTV bundles this holiday season and then eventually released on it's own later next year and who knows if it will include those extras. So unless you plan on buying a whole 3D HDTV bundle this season...no Avatar 3D for you.

I'm sure it will be cheaper come Black Friday. I skipped the first release and will probably pick this one up. I'm not really caring about the lack of 3D, so this will be good for me.

Resolution shouldn't matter one bit. I've demoed TDK on a 720p projector, 1080i TV and 1080p TV and the IMAX scenes played how they should. Make sure you have your TV on 16:9.

Wait a minute your not trying to watch the imax scenes in fullscreen as in 4:3 aspect ratio are you? If so the image would appear squashed on screen & there would be black bars on the sides. If everything is set correctly then the imax scenes should appear as a full widescreen image of 1.85 aspect ratio without any black bars & will naturally fill up your whole tv screen.

That's my problem then, my HD TV is old and the screen isn't widescreen. It's still box shaped. I really need to upgrade to a new TV. Maybe the bars are there on purpose because of my screen, I don't know.

Shrek Forever After and Collection Blu-ray in December
Paramount Home Entertainment has announced the Dreamworks Animation movie Shrek Forever After for Blu-ray release on December 7. On the same date, the studio will also release Shrek: The Whole Story, a gift set including all four Shrek movies.

Special features on Shrek Forever After include a "12 Days of Christmas" pop-up book, deleted scenes, interactive games, a preview of "Shrek the Musical" and an insider's look at the film.

For a limited time, both Shrek Forever After and Shrek: The Whole Story will also include a new holiday program, Donkey's Christmas Shrektacular, featuring all the characters from the franchise singing classic holiday songs with Shrek-ized lyrics, as well as the "Shrek's Yule Log" - a virtual fireplace with appearances by more than 25 Shrek characters.

At the moment the studio has not revealed any plans to release Shrek or Shrek 2 on Blu-ray separately. Shrek the Third was released on Blu-ray in September 2008.

A 3D Blu-ray edition of the movie will be offered exclusively to buyers of Samsung 3D hardware (see Blu-ray.com, September 17).

Ah, well, that explains it. If it's a square shape, you will have black bars on the top and bottom even for the IMAX stuff.

As much as I want a Widescreen HD TV that is 60" or larger I'm going to have to settle for a 40" for my bedroom and get the massive TV for the main part of the house sometime later.

It seems Warner Brothers has snuck the horror Blu-ray release of Thir13een Ghosts/House of Wax exclusively at Best Buy on September 26.

Ok, I was thinking of getting Shrek 4 on DVD and be done with it, but I think I will cave in to Blu altho I'm not totally on board with the whole Shrek thing.

I have yet another question for you guys:

My brother was playing Fallout 3 tonight, and I noticed whenever he moves the background seems a little blurry. It kinda bugs me, I don't know if I have something set wrong where it makes it do this or what. It could possibly be the TV as it wasn't an expensive HD TV. It's a Sony Bravia 32" Inch LCD 720p, 60Hz, KDL-32BX300 When nothing is moving it looks fine. But the slightest movement it kinda blurs. I haven't noticed it much when watching movies though. (If it does it's not as major as when playing games.)

Are you using an HDMI cable? Does the same thing happen with other games? It could just be a natural occurrence. What game system are you using? Have you got it set to the highest resolution that is set for the game?

The original NOES Blu-ray got pretty great reviews and is one of the handful of catalog Blu-ray's with 7.1 lossless surround sound. Only reason I haven't picked it up yet is because I am afraid that they will announce a boxset and I will be stuck with a copy I don't need anymore.

The remake of NOES got good disc quality reviews but going by the reviews it is a contender for worst remake of the year.

Yes, I am using an HDMI Cable. And I'm using a PS3. I haven't noticed it AS much in other games, but in Fallout 3, I have noticed it more. I'm also considering getting a new HDTV and selling my brother the one I got. I'd like to get a 1080p with better frame refresh rate. Any suggestions? Black levels are definitely better on Plasma than on LCD.

Blacks on LCD is not even black. It's actually a very dark blue. (right?)

I'm using LCD and my blacks are fine, but whenever I look at a Plasma TV, dang the blacks are dark and solid. Not sure about LED

As I understand, an LED is an LCD tv. LED refers to the backlight technology they use.

good choice. I wouldnt reccommend plasma to anyone. LCD is where its at and if you have the extra money for LED, go for it instead. Have you decided on a brand? Id highly reccommend Samsung. They tend to be pricier but so worth it. Sony is also good

Uh-oh here we go just like I predicted. Here starts the thing that will either make or break the 3D format.

3D Blu-ray for Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix & Half-Blood Prince
Warner Home Video has hired the services of the company Prime Focus London to convert two back titles in the Harry Potter series for 3D Blu-ray: Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix and Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince; work has reportedly already begun on the latter. The studio has not revealed whether those two will get a theatrical re-release in 3D, or when the 3D BDs are expected to come out.

WHV hasn't made public plans regarding 3D conversions of the first four Potter movies, but their conversion also seems likely.

Prime Focus was criticized because of the poor quality of the 3D conversion of Clash of the Titans. Afterwards, the company refocused on higher quality and has ostensibly been avoiding rush jobs.

You may also want to invest in a good sound system if you don't already have one. You will probably be able to get one that comes in a bundle with the tv or may want to purchase one separately. Depending on the size of your bedroom you probably wouldn't want to mess with running a bunch of wires all over the place, so a good sound bar with subwoofer would be all the sound you would need in the bedroom.

The PS3 Gets 1080i Netflix with 5.1 Sound – Disc Free
Other devices will see similar updates in the near future, but Sony gets it first.

If you're a Netflix fan with even a basic home theater setup, you've probably been chomping at the bit for 5.1 surround. Lucky PlayStation 3 owners will be the first to get it, helping to make up for having to use discs to stream for all this time.

On October 18 – that's Monday – if you've got a PS3, you'll be able to stream Netflix movies with 5.1 channel surround with Dolby Digital Plus. You'll also be able to watch videos in 1080i, an upgrade from the service which formerly capped out at 720p. What's more, you won't even have to use a disc to do it.

The folks at Netflix say that other devices like the Xbox 360, Roku streamers, Blu-ray players and receivers will be getting the 5.1 channel treatment too, but a date hasn't been set. Netflix hasn't publicly stated whether or not we'll see 1080i streaming on other devices, but it's almost surely on the way.

I asked because I was at Walmart looking for some small stuff for Halloween and wandered into the electronics section and they had some pretty decent Sanyo HDTVs for some reasonable prices. It's just for my room so I don't want to spend too much if possible. When my fiance and I get a place of our own, that's when I'm going to lay down the big bucks for a massive TV over 50".

New Avatar Extras that you can access using your original Avatar Bluray.

http://www.thedigitalbits.com/#mytwocents

Now then, while we're talking Fox... the studio has informed us that there are brand new bonus features you can access on your original Avatar Blu-ray via BD-Live right now, today. If you have a BD-Live capable player with a network connection, when you insert your disc into the player a LIVE EXTRAS option will appear in the main menu. If you select this, new content will quickly download, allowing you to access preview video clips from the forthcoming Avatar: Collector's Edition Blu-ray. Among the videos you can watch now are a clip from a new CE extended scene (part of Jake's bar fight from the alternate - and I think much better - opening to the film), a clip from the CE's User's Guide for Avatar Deleted Scenes, and a Kauai clip from one of of the documentaries on the new set. Two more exclusive preview clips will be available on 10/26, two more on 11/2 and three more on 11/9. You'll get more exclusive new content each week leading up to the 11/16 release of the Collector's Edition itself. And you can chose to either download the clips to your player in high quality, or stream them for faster access. I've watched it myself today and it's pretty cool stuff. Do check it out.

Eat sand, Lawrence; back to your cab, Travis - Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has announced Ishtar for Blu-ray release on January 4, 2011. So I went to the Back the Future 25th Anniversary screening in NYC tonight (which was amazing), and I won the the blu-rays during the trivia contest they had before the movie.

It's actually a voucher to get it in the mail (for free!), but since I have no self-control I'm still picking up my box set at Best Buy tomorrow and use the free set for a Christmas present, since I was going to get it for my folks anyway.

But that was awesome. My useless knowledge of BTTF trivia finally came in handy! :woot:

I can't wait to see it. It looked amazing on the big screen (I saw it twice in 1985). I'm so used to seeing on TV that I couldn't get used to it being so huge. But it was awesome. Got a 25th Anniversary poster too.

Warner Home Video has massively improved its DVD2Blu program, which previously allowed owners of Warner DVDs to trade them in for their Blu-ray upgrades for a reduced price. For a limited time, you can swap any DVD (not necessarily even from Warner) for a new WB Blu-ray for as low as $4.95 (or $14.95 for TV seasons), with free shipping on orders over $35.

Qualifying DVDs include any pre-recorded discs that contain professionally-produced content purchased at a regular retail or e-commerce store (excluding adult content). The DVDs can contain film, TV, sports, animation or documentary content and can be from Warner Bros. or non-Warner Bros. Blank or copied DVDs do not qualify.

Not that if you order a multi-disc set (such as a TV season), you only need to send in one DVD.

To upgrade, go to the DVD2Blu site http://www.dvd2blu.com/ and select the titles you're interested in. Once you complete the online order, you will receive an order confirmation e-mail with an attached pre-paid shipping label. Print out the label and attach it to an envelope with your DVDs inside (do not include the cases or artwork). Then mail the envelope to WB's processing center, which will check that the number of DVDs match the number of Blu-ray discs requested in your order and ship your new Blu-ray discs.

Panasonic’s Exclusive Avatar 3D Blu-ray Offer Detailed
First details have surfaced regarding the terms for the Panasonic promotion offering a 3D Blu-ray version of James Cameron's Avatar. As previously reported, this 3D BD will be exclusively available starting December 1, as part of a bonus Panasonic 3D Ultimate Pack, to new buyers of any Panasonic Full HD 3D TV. Other buyers of Panasonic 3D TVs also qualify to receive the Avatar 3D Blu-ray.

The 3D Ultimate Pack consists of one Avatar Blu-ray 3D Disc and two pairs of Panasonic 3D eyeglasses.

A similar promotion will also be offered in France, according to HD-Motion.

The disc will also be available to customers who purchased a Panasonic 3D TV prior to December 1, through the Viera 3D TV Loyalty Program. Consumers should mail a copy of the qualifying TV receipt to Panasonic. The disc will then be mailed directly to the consumer. The mail-in address and disc request form will be available on the Panasonic website starting December 1.

Does the Blu-Ray's have the same framing issues that the DVD set from a few years ago had? That's doubtful. Uni fixed that problem years ago.

Watching The Thin Red Line in HD is a borderline religious experience.

Yeah I need to pick that up at some point never fully watched it all the way through. And that is one of the great things about Criterion...they may be expensive but you know you are getting a quality product.

I bought mine yesterday but hadn't had the chance to watch any let alone take them out. Just gave it a shot now and it's definitely a pain in the ass.

EDIT:

Found another video from the video you posted showing the right way to get them out. It helps but it takes a little getting use to having to take these out compared to any other box set or collection.
It looked like the same packaging they used for the Office. I ****ing hate it and the packaging was the main reason why I chose not to buy the set.

It honestly really isn't that bad if you know what to do and once you work out the holders a little bit and get them loosened them up. But if you are average joe Blu-ray buyer and have no clue what kind of packaging to expect then I can understand the awfulness of it because the first instinct is to just yank them straight out.

I've been seeing a lot of horror stories being posted on you tube about this packaging for BTTF. The lock in makes sense considering how easy it is for the middle part to break during shipping usually but I think I'll hold off for now

I had trouble getting the BTTF discs out when I first tried it, but once I figured it out it wasn't that big of a deal.

There's no way in hell I would have skipped getting the set over it, everything on the discs is incredible.

You could just by a replacment Blu-ray case for a couple bucks if it really is that much of a bother. And there is a chance Universal might offer a replacement since there is a lot of people complaining. I just popped in the first film and watched a few minutes and I am already impressed and satisfied.

Get More out of Your 'Avatar' Blu-ray with BD-Live!
More special features, deleted scenes, and screen tests are available NOW!

BD-Live is a feature with a lot of potential, but it's been incredibly underwhelming in its use thus far. Thankfully, 'Avatar' gives us a reason to use it.

If you've got the original 'Avatar' Blu-ray and you want a taste of what's on the three disc Extended Collector's Edition, you've got it!

The folks over at Fox have added a nice little bundle of content that should hold you over until the release of the collector's edition next month and the 3D version the month after! You'll get to see a few deleted scenes, most of which have never been seen before, as well as a scene deconstruction that breaks everything down for you.

In addition, you'll get to check out a few excerpts from the 'Avatar' documentary and – possibly the most interesting feature – raw footage versions of scenes. That means you'll get to watch the actors do their thing without all that CG. Silliness is sure to abound!

It's definitely understandable why everyone is buying it but I really do hope they offer an alternate case soon.

It's really not that bad once you figure it out. I brought it over my folks house this morning and my brother-in-law popped it out correctly on the first try. It's not ideal, but people are definitely overreacting, I think. I can't believe anyone would skip buying the set over it.

You already watch all three films danoyse? I can't wait to get the money to buy this set. I probably shouldn't but I'm tempted to get it after work today.

I'm sure I'll cave in at some point , the negative backlash has scared me a bit but i hope everyone is just being stubborn .

Also I'm really wanting the Alien Anthology , anyone here have it yet?
