You already watch all three films danoyse? I can't wait to get the money to buy this set. I probably shouldn't but I'm tempted to get it after work today.

That's ok, I actually won them at the AMC screening of Part 1 this week, but since I had to mail the card in to get those, I went out and bought them the next day anyway. It's been my all-time favorite movie since I was 11 (in 1985!), and I have no self-control. I'm giving the set I won to my folks.

So far I've watched the first two movies and they look great. Gonna marathon the whole thing on Sunday. :woot:

I'm sure I'll cave in at some point , the negative backlash has scared me a bit but i hope everyone is just being stubborn .

Also I'm really wanting the Alien Anthology , anyone here have it yet?

Don't let it stop you from getting them, it's really not that big of deal. And if it helps, my nephew just knocked my backpack over that had my blurays inside, and they didn't get crunched at all.

I got the Alien Anthology and it is very worth it. Even though the last two movies aren't necessarily worth it, the first two and all the features make it more than worth the purchase. And I'm talking about an amazing and large collection of features. And oh yeah, the movies look and sound amazing.

Any word on whether Star Trek TNG Seasons are coming to Blu-ray?

From what I understand, it would be extremely difficult to release the season's on blu, because of the crappy source material. This is from Wikipedia:

At a Star Trek convention in Las Vegas (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Las_Vegas_metropolitan_area) in August, 2010, a representative for CBS Consumer Products (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CBS_Consumer_Products) was quoted as saying that remastering the show for HD would be "extremely difficult."

As with the original series, TNG was shot on 35mm film, including most of the major visual effects elements (ex. ships), but unlike the original series, most other effects and compositing were done at SD (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Standard_definition_television) resolution on D1 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/D-1_(Sony)) video.

And wow was it a good decision to skip out on the Alice in Wonderland DVD this year O.O....

Blue Underground Boss Announces Upcoming Blu-ray Titles
In an interview with AVManiacs.com/The Cinefiles, William Lustig, president of Blue Underground and director of Maniac and Vigilante, revealed some titles coming up on Blu-ray from the independent label. They include Lucio Fulci's Zombie and House by the Cemetery, and three Dario Argento Films: Cat O'Nine Tails, Inferno and Deep Red.

These releases will benefit from brand-new 2K transfers and new special features.

However, Lustig confirmed that Blue Underground wouldn't be releasing Suspiria, as the studio doesn't own the rights to that Argento title.

Thanks for that, but I thought the trilogy had a re-release for the first movie with a new picture and sound cut that was improved over the last blu-ray release which I heard wasnt very good. Very dissapointing its just the old one lumped in with the other 2.

Dances with Wolves Extended Cut Blu-ray Coming Up
According to The Digital Bits, MGM Home Entertainment, in conjunction with 20th Century Fox, will release Dances with Wolves on Blu-ray on January 11, 2011. This BD will present the extended cut of this Oscar-winning western starring and directed by Kevin Costner. Most of the previous DVD extras will reportedly be included, along with newly-produced material.

The theatrical cut had been released by Warner Home Video in the UK in 2009, in a barebones edition.

MGM just filed for bankruptcy I think we are lucky to be getting any Blu-ray's at all from them.

The whole point of the MGM bankruptcy is to simply erase the debt and transform it into equity owned mostly by the creditors and a small percentage (less than 5%) by Spyglass Entertainment. Spyglass will be running MGM and will be more of a production company, giving distribution of films to other studios (my personal guess would be Lions Gate since Carl Ichan will be a board member of the new MGM and owns over 30% of Lions Gate).

MGM will be out of bankruptcy in less than 30 days. In my opinion, the creditors are doing this to attempt to raise the value of MGM. MGM has let its properties stagnate, its film library was mostly irrelevant, home video sales are down (with blu-ray really being the only bright spot), and it wasn't making any new movies which dragged the value of the studio down. By making new movies, it increases the value of their film library, especially if they are hits. And then with a much more valuable MGM, they can get higher offers from Time Warner, News Corp., Lions Gate Entertainment, or new investors. Most of the creditors are financial institutions and they really have no interest in partaking the risky business that is Hollywood. Hell, asides from Sony and Comcast, MGM's previous owners were financial firms.

My point is MGM isn't going to shell out money to remaster Robocop when they have a bunch of copies already they need to sell which is why they just threw it in the trilogy set. That is also why they have been doing Blu-ray/DVD combos of catalog movies they already have on store shelves.

I think it has more to do with MGM being lazy than not having the money. And I think the blu-ray/DVD combos are something that 20th Century Fox does, and they applied it to MGM's films since they distribute them on home video.

Bambi Blu-ray Gets Early March Date
An early announcement to retailers indicates that Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment will release its animated classic Bambi on Blu-ray on March 1, 2011, as part of the Diamond Collection, in a BD/DVD combo edition. Original Tron Remastered for Blu-ray
During a recent interview, Tron director Steven Lisberger said that he has just spent six weeks remastering the movie for Blu-ray and performing subtle tweaks. As to the actual release date, Lisberger didn't give any specifics as it is up to the studio, but he said that it would be "sooner rather than later."

Earlier this year, this title had been rumored to be coming out in November, a month ahead of the theatrical release of its sequel Tron Legacy. Now it seems likelier that it will be tied in to the home video release (like the Fantasia 2 Movie Collection and The Sorcerer's Apprentice).

You could always just import the one from Amazon.co.uk. It has been available over in the UK for quite some time now and its the same as the US disc and it is region-free. I believe if you buy it right now the cost would come out to $17.53 shipped.

Because we live in a time where things like Ipods, laptops, phones, etc. are ways people watch movies and a digital copy is inexpensive so they throw it in because it is adding value to the product and makes customers feel like they are getting more bang for their buck. The only thing I don't get is why some studios are still putting the digital copy on its own separate disc. WB has wised up I am pretty sure they are putting the digital copy on the same disc as the DVD that gets packaged with their Blu-ray's now.

Well most are released with the option of getting either the 4 disc BD or just the 2 disc. And for the most part, they're just an extra 2-3 bucks anyway. Its not that drastic of a price change.

Case in point, BOTH 'The Karate Kid" and "Toy Story 3" were released with two bluray versions, one including the Digital Copy, DVD and Special Features and one just with the special features.

I just got the 2-disc with the special features because like you, I honestly have no need for those extra copies.

Do you not have a Blu-ray player yet? I ask because it would make sense for you to buy those versions so you can watch the DVD and have the Blu-ray copy for when you upgrade, if you haven't yet that is.

I like digital copies because I commute back and forth from NJ to NY every day, and it's nice to be able to put a movie on if I'm stuck in traffic, especially now that I have an iPad.

The additional DVD copy comes in handy too, because I usually give those copies to my sister and brother-in-law, since they don't have a blu-ray player.

I'm looking into a new HD TV. Might be able to get one this week. I'm looking into a Sony EX500 model. Mainly because my current TV is 720p and 60hz. This one is 1080p and 120hz. Screen size will be the same. My room is pretty small. 32inch is a good size for me. :woot: I could try and get a little bigger, but I don't think it's necessary for me.

I'm hoping their will be less blur on video games. It blurs anytime I move on games like Fallout 3/Red Dead. I've noticed in a lot of games, though.

I've heard just upgrading from 60hz to 120hz is a massive improvement.

Coraline 3D Blu-ray for General Release
Universal Studios Home Entertainment has announced that, on January 4, 2011, it will commercially release the 3D Blu-ray of Coraline. This 3D BD was initially offered to buyers of Panasonic 3D TVs in June 2010, and later bundled with a Panasonic 3D Essential Pack (see Blu-ray.com, May 18 and September 4). The upcoming 3D BD will be 2D compatible, and will also include a DVD of the movie.

No special features have been listed for the Blu-ray.

The first edition of Coraline, released in July 2009 (before the adoption of the Blu-ray 3D specification) did include a 3D version of the movie, albeit an "anaglyph" one, using the now-obsolete 2-color glasses.

I might take you up on that PS3. Need to check my funds. Is it only backwards compatible with PS2 games or can you play PS1 games as well?

Yes, it's backwards compatible with both PS1 and PS2 games. When the drive worked, I had played both PS1 and PS2 games on it. Now, remember though, it needs a new drive. I mean, that would need to be replaced. As of now, you can turn it on and do everything normally but once you put a disc in the drive it won't load. So, the drive needs to be replaced in order for it to work perfectly. Just want to make that clear as I had someone email me saying if it played PS3 games and I'm like, no, the drive doesn't work. lol...

But yeah, if you want to buy and fix it up I'm more than willing to sell it to you. As of now it's just been sitting in my room so I figured I'd try to sell it to someone who can fix it up and enjoy it. :yay:

Just let me know whenever you decide if you want it or not.

3D Content Hidden in Avatar Collector’s Edition Blu-ray
Inquisitive Blu-ray enthusiasts have found out that the Extended Collector's Edition Blu-ray of Avatar exclusively features two 3D bonus features in the form of "Easter Eggs": the movie trailer and a four-minute featurette titled Pandora Discovered, featuring 3D footage from the film, with narration by Sigourney Weaver as Dr. Grace Augustine.

To access those two features, insert Disc Three of the Blu-ray set. When the main menu appears, move the cursor to the far right and click right once again. At that moment, the 3D selections will be displayed on screen.

Note that these are not anaglyph features, but "real" 3D content created following the Blu-ray 3D specification, and requires a 3D Blu-ray compliant player, display and glasses.

As previously reported (see Blu-ray.com, October 28, the 3D Blu-ray of the full movie will be available exclusively to buyers of Panasonic 3D hardware.

I am rather curious if Disney still has the rights to Princess Mononoke. They just sold the Miramax library, but I'm curious if Disney pulled a "The Nightmare Before Christmas" move on the film and moved it to the Disney label with the rest of the Studio Ghibli films.

Any of you ever go to www.cablestogo.com (http://www.cablestogo.com) for your HDMI cables? I'm going to get some to hook up my Blu-ray Player to my new TV and I was curious because some people on there are saying some are really good even though they're really low priced. I just want to make sure I get something that won't loose any quality in the picture.

Aight some new questions for you guys:

I got a Sony Bravia EX500 1080p 120hz. I noticed when playing the new Assassin's Creed game, it says it's in 720p, while the game can go into full 1080p, why is it converting it to 720p? I looked into the PS3 settings, and it says it has 1080p as the display setting for it. I'm also still noticing some juddering/blur when playing games. I have a feeling it's something in the settings is not right.

Does anyone know what the best calibration is for this set or where I can find it? Any help would be great. :D -And yes my HDMI cable goes up to full 1080p.

Deselect 720p from your PS3 settings. If you have all resolutions selected, the PS3 will play the game at its native resolution which is 720p. Few retail games actually have a native resolution of 1080p, but you can force the PS3 to output it by not having 720p selected

Figs, go with the bigger TV, if you go smaller now you'll regret it later. Get the biggest TV you can afford. I also wouldn't worry about the black levels, LCD is surprisingly good as of late and unless comparing it to another display right next to it you won't notice any difference.

Got my TV tonight and it looks beautiful! Very happy! This pic doesn't do it justice of course, I was nice enough to let my woman and roommate hijack it to watch Top Model. :woot:

I don't get it either, but over on the forums at Blu-ray.com it seemed others were excited about it too. I think it just has that cult following where it's fun to watch because it's such a terrible film. For me it doesn't go on my list of 'so bad it's good' films, it's just ****.

Because it is an awfully bad movie. So awful that it is almost a joke at how bad it is but the production was dead serious. It is a beautiful and hilarious piece of ****. I have said it before in this thread...if you enjoy something like Tim and Eric Awesome Show then you will love Troll 2. It is like a sketch out of their show or something. I was going to get Scott Pilgram but changed my mind. I'll get that when it goes down. Can't wait for Inception. :D

I cant beleive Target had the Lord of the Rings Trilogy set for $7.99 and I missed it. Thats a little over $2.60 per movie and possibly the best BR deal, Ive seen.

True but I think everytime you feel down about not getting a Black Friday deal you can always go to Youtube to make yourself feel better.

Although this specific one is a bit dirty, do any of you recommend using these to clean your HDTVs? It's very soft, I just don't want to scratch the screen. I think it's perfect for dust on it when you wipe it softly.

my goodness I just placed an order for Superman, Batman, Batman Returns and the original Clash iof the Titans at WBshop.com for $30. I had a B1G1 free order from Deepdiscount for the last film and Boogie Nights from September and it still hasnt shipped so Im about to cancel that and hopefully can find Boogie Nights for a low price elsewhere. Contemplating Get Him to the Greek but after that Im done with BF

Too bad there were no deals for Heroes. I didnt like the last 2 seasons and wouldnt pay regular price for them but I would have jumped on a BF deal. Was also looking for The Office S5 and/or on BR, but none

Amazon literally just dropped the price of Boogie Nights to $14.49 that is the lowest I have seen it anywhere. I just ordered it the other day and it shipped within the last 24 hours and I was charged the $17.99 price. I am gonna shoot Amazon an e-mail and see if they can credit me back the difference since mine literally just shipped. I hate when they drop the price of something right when I order it.

Thanks! $7.50 + $14.50 = $22 which is about the same price I ordered the films from Deepdiscount. I have Prime, so I'll order that and get it by Tuesday. Im also adding Friday (6.99) and waiting to see if they drop anything else

Lucky you bc they changed their policy to not do that a while back.

A little update on my WBshop buys, I managed to find a deal where if you sign up for Insider, you get 25% off purchases. I did that and knocked my 4 BRs down to $5.62 for a total of $24 with shipping. Thats a great saving bc I originally ordered them for $32

I also managed to snag Bourne Trilogy for $28 at Frys.com and tomorrow Amazon is hving Home Alone Collection for $15. Oh and I managed to get Pursuit of Happyness for $3 at BarnesandNobles.comThis is the most BRs, Ive ever purchased. Man has my collection grown in the past couple of days

Their policy used to be a 30 day post price guarantee which was so awesome but yeah they eliminated that. I think they will make an exception if the timeframe is small enough between shipping and the price drop.

2 years. I hadnt heard of things changing. Maybe they are making exception for this weekend bc of the buisness they are getting due to Black Friday.

Its in their official policy

Post-Order Price Match Policy

With the exception of TVs (http://www.amazon.com/gp/help/customer/display.html?nodeId=468502#tv), we do not offer post-order price matching when an item's price drops after you buy it. Our prices regularly change, and the price you paid when your order shipped was the lowest price we were able to offer at the time. We consistently offer competitive prices on everything we carry because we know low prices are very important to our customers.

Actually technically it IS eliminated completely. I have shot them a few e-mails concerning price drops while something is being shipped and everytime they respond they ALWAYS say we are not supposed to refund while an item is being shipped but this time we will make an exception.

Well I am one of the people that finds Avatar very mediocre and overrated but I can't deny that it is visually orgasmic and I am sure seeing the behind the scenes stuff is very interesting.

And you just missed out on a pretty good deal Amazon was offering where you could get The Last of the Mohicans and the Alien Anthology for $64.98 shipped...hopefully there will be another deal like that in the near future because I am still looking to pick it up myself.

Blu-ray Boxed Set of the Week: Firefly $25

Amazon seems determined to get what little money you could have left from Black Friday: its new Blu-ray Boxed Set of the Week is for Firefly: The Complete Series, which can now be had for $25.00 (72% off MSRP). This is the cheapest this box set has been. This offer is valid through December 4.

Heavy Metal Blu-ray Cancelled
Three weeks ago (see Blu-ray.com, November 15), Sony Pictures Home Entertainment had announced Heavy Metal for Blu-ray release on January 25, 2011. Now the studio has unceremoniously pulled this cult animated movie from its schedule. No reason is given for this cancellation, and no new release date is available.

A couple months ago, another Sony catalog title, Big Daddy, was also announced and later pulled from the schedule, only to resurface later as a Best Buy exclusive (see Blu-ray.com, October 11). At the moment there is no information as to whether that will happen or not with Heavy Metal as well.

...and the 3D glasses...and a 3D capable Blu-ray player. :P Alice in Wonderland was a post conversion job though so that might not be so impressive. I got Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs as my 3D option if I ever happen to become 3D ready in the near future. Can't go wrong with animated 3D.

I saw it in theaters in 3D. While not as impressive as Avatar or animated 3D, Burton at least took 3D in consideration while he made Alice in Wonderland and Disney didn't do a horrible job in the conversion.

Warner Bros. on the other hand....they could learn a thing or two from Disney.

I agree with this, and personally, I thought the 3D in AiW was just as good as Avatar. They did a great job converting AiW to 3D.

While I second any complaints about the exclusivisity...exclusivity...exclusiveness....of 3D discs like that, it's important to point out that it's only been confirmed that Panasonic has exclusive rights to BUNDLE 3D Avatar with their BD players until Feb. 2012. It's not clear yet whether or not this means it won't see a standalone release before that bundle deal ends, though. (Though it's very likely that's exactly what it will be)

I just picked up a Sony BDP-S570 Blu-ray player for $138 on Amazon for my dads xmas present. Can't wait I am sure he will love it. I also got a new PS3 slim to go along with my old 60GB model. The PS3 slim sure is sexier looking IMO and much quieter...glad I picked it up.

I can understand some exclusivity, but two years is way too long. Especially for a title like Avatar.

So this is the BTTF Blu-ray I got... I don't think it's the same as the American release is it? it's just an ordinary blu-ray case with three disc inside, one disc per movie.

Picture quality looks awesome... better than I expected

Tommy Wiseau’s The Room Blu-ray in 2011, 3D Also Coming Up
Filmmaker Tommy Wiseau has told Entertainment Weekly that he intends to release his cult movie The Room on Blu-ray during the coming year, with additional behind-the-scenes footage. "We want a Blu-ray release before Christmas 2011," he said. Wiseau also revealed that he intends to convert The Room to 3D for theatrical release in late 2011 or in 2012. However, no mention of a 3D Blu-ray release was made.

Wiseau explained that he has "hundreds of emails" asking for behind-the-scenes footage. He said he replies that they'll get them "as soon as we release the Blu-ray."

I got it, it's pretty badass. They have a lot of them on Ebay if you're interested.

Only problem that I think I've heard other people have issues with is that in a scene or two, the audio cuts out so I have to rewind a little. It's mainly the scene when they enter the warehouse and are arguing about Saito being shot.

I am not sure I understand the question. If you already have an HDMI cable hooked up from your Blu-ray player to your TV and you are getting sound from your TV speakers you should already be getting the best sound possible. An optical cable would on benefit you if you are using component cables for sound right now. HDMI beats optical though.

Damn, I did not realize that. Some fool told me it's good to get optical along with the HDMI.

Thanks for saving me some money. So when I get a surround sound system, I can just use HDMI, will do.

Well if you also get a surround sound setup that is where optical/HDMI can come into play. You can get a much cheaper setup that can accept an optical cable but not HDMI. It all depends on your budget and what is important to you. Figure out how much money you are willing to spend on surround sound and do a little research and figure out what features are important to you then buy accordingly.

Depends on the TV as well as what settings they have on. Normally don't judge it by the ones on display at stores. I started doing research and asking questions in this thread and also look at reviews. My TV looks perfectly find when watching TV shows and the movies look fantastic.

I have a 32 inch Sony EX500, (1080p, 120hz) and I got to be at least four feet or so away when watching blu rays. I had an older model and I don't remember it being like that, and it was a cheaper set. I usually don't watch movies that close anyways, but I was just curious as to why it looks grainy/blurry like that when close up. :D (Noticed it watching LOST on BR. I'm sure if you look on google you can find some sites, just make sure to list your type of TV and you should be alright. With the digital noise filter, the higher you set it, the cleaner the picture looks but don't go overboard with it or it will look a little too clean if you get what I'm saying.

The Dark Knight was Heath Ledger's last COMPLETED film. He was in the middle of filming Imaginarium when he passed away. Johnny Depp, Jude Law, and Colin Farrell all stepped forward to film Ledger's unfinished scenes to complete the film. I believe he also had a movie he was signed onto that was in the pre-production stages as well.

Lost is generally pretty grainy because it was shot as such. If you compare it to say, a Pixar film, you'll notice what I mean.

A film is supposed to look grainy because well film IS grain...that is what makes up the picture when shot on film and brings out all the details. Which is why there are a lot of people that get upset when something like digital noise reduction is heavily applied to a Blu-ray transfer to give it a smooth ungrainy look...it can eliminate detail in exchange for a smooth looking picture.

Sorry I haven't posted in a while. I was watching my grandparents so internet access was a little spotty for me. Luckily, they had a blu-ray player for me to enjoy. Unfortunately I used it to watch The Twilight Saga: Eclipse :(

Anyways onto the awesome news my parents gave me a stand alone blu-ray player this Christmas :). It was a Sony BDP-S570 which is 3D capable and has a ****load of awesome online features. I freaking love it. Now all I have to do is get a freaking 3D HDTV (which will come someday :argh: )

As for blu-rays I ended up getting It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia: The Complete Season 5 from my sister and my parents got me V: The Complete First Season, Lost: The Complete Sixth Season, Star Wars: The Clone Wars - The Complete Season Two, Fantasia/Fantasia 2000, and with money and gift cards I also got Easy A (my guilty pleasure of 2010) and the Scarlet Edition of Gone with the Wind (which was on sale at FYE for $15).

I'm also approaching the 250 mark for my blu-ray collection :awesome:

Amazon Prime is your friend. I get free shipping in two days with it.

I used it as a free trial but forgot to change it so they wouldn't renew it and not charge me $80/year. But I use Amazon a lot and I get my items a lot quicker so the frustration about my forgetfulness was quickly subsided.

Star Wars Saga Blu-ray Announced
As anticipated, 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment officially announced today the Blu-ray release of Star Wars for September 2011. The studio will release the saga in three distinct sets "to meet the needs of every Star Wars fan: Star Wars: The Complete Saga (a nine-disc set including all six films, priced at $139.99; Star Wars: Prequel Trilogy (a three-disc set including Episodes I-III, priced at $69.99); and Star Wars: Original Trilogy (a three-disc set including Episodes IV-VI, priced at $69.99).

Star Wars: The Complete Saga on Blu-ray will feature all six live-action Star Wars feature films utilizing the highest possible picture and audio presentation, along with three additional discs and more than 30 hours of extensive special features including never-before-seen deleted and alternate scenes, an exploration of the exclusive Star Wars archives, and much more.

Contrary to what some hoped and others feared, no 3D Blu-ray announcement was made.

The preorder for the Complete saga is already up at Amazon, at $89.99, or just $15 per movie. The Prequel Trilogy and the Original Trilogy, in turn, go for $44.99 (again, $15 per movie).

Two Month Delay for A.I. Blu-ray
Paramount has changed the street date for the Blu-ray edition of A.I. Artificial Intelligence. Originally slated for a February 15 release (see Blu-ray.com, December 6, 2010) Steven Spielberg's dark sci-fi fairy tale will now come out on BD on April 12. Technical specifications and special features are unchanged.

No surprise that the 3D versions weren't announced, considering that the 3D versions won't be coming out until 2012 in theaters.

Well Star Wars is Fox and Indiana Jones is Paramount. But yeah I hope Paramount releases the Indy boxset later this year.

So the Star Wars will be available in a 6 movie set + special features, an original trilogy set, a prequel trilogy set, and 6 individual movies?

Tron Bonne

It didn't say anything about individual movie releases, so probably not each film separately (unless that's meant to just be a given).

I think that meant they'd be $15 a piece if you broke down the price of each film in the boxset.

Don't forget Amazon Prime also gives you 1 day shipping for just $3.99 per order. My brother ordered something from Amazon for Xmas and used 1 day shipping and it was at the house in less than 24 hours. Amazon just flat out rocks when it comes to shipping.

My mom has Amazon Prime, she loves it. I should try it out.

Turns out my Amazon order was delayed because The A-Team was sold out, and they were holding the whole order until it was back in stock. But they never sent me an email to say it would be delayed, so they bumped it up to one-day shipping and I got everything yesterday.

Well Star Wars is Fox and Indiana Jones is Paramount. But yeah I hope Paramount releases the Indy boxset later this year.

I think that 20th Century Fox and Paramount are just distributors of Star Wars and Indiana Jones (just like how Paramount just simply distributes the early Marvel Studios films and Dreamworks Animation films), while LucasFilm owns them and pretty much does everything with them. Hence why we see Warner Bros. handling the distribution regarding Star Wars: The Clone Wars.

Everything regarding those two series is up to the Great Neckbeardus.

Scarface, Jurassic Park Trilogy Blu-ray in 2011
During an extended interview with French site Ecranlarge.com, Eric Legay, marketing director for Universal France, revealed some of the catalog movies that the studio intends to release on Blu-ray in 2011, which prominently include the Jurassic Park trilogy and Brian DePalma's Scarface, along with some westerns and more Hitchcock.

The studio will also release some westerns on Blu-ray, including Winchester 73, Shenandoah and High Plains Drifter (apparently one of two movies starring Clint Eastwood that the studio plans to release this year).

Universal will also continue releasing Alfred Hitchcock movies on Blu-ray, but Legay noted that the flow of titles might be limited by the need to remaster them with the same level of quality as Psycho.

Daylight Blu-ray Announced
Universal Studios Home Entertainment has announced Daylight for Blu-ray release on April 26. This 1996 action movie starring Sylvester Stallone and directed by Rob Cohen had been released in 2007 on the defunct HD DVD format. The BD will be presented in a single-sided BD50 disc, and will include a lossless audio track.

Special features include:

* Feature commentary with director Rob Cohen
* The Making of Daylight
* The Daylight Archives
* Theatrical trailers
* Music video: Donna Summer and Bruce Roberts, "Whenever There is Love"
* Pocket Blu

Sunshine Blu-ray Exchange Program
Blu-ray enthusiasts have been reporting playback issues with the Blu-ray release of Sunshine. Now, 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment has come through and made available replacement Blu-ray discs for any consumer that has had an issue playing their copy of Sunshine. Consumers should contact Fox customer service at 888-223-4369, where their name and address will be taken down for a replacement disc.

The issue was that the BD's picture-in-picture track turned itself on and couldn't be switched off, which made impossible to watch the movie itself. Several players were affected, including the PS3 (after a recent firmware update).

Extended Lord of the Rings Blu-ray Expected This Year
As principal photography is about to finally begin on The Hobbit, The Digital Bits is reporting that New Line, under Warner Home Video, will release the extended edition of The Lord of the Rings: The Motion Picture Trilogy "sometime this year," in order to "keep the franchise fresh in the minds of fans."

The Hobbit will open in theaters in two parts, in 2012 and 2013. Afterwards, the studio is expected to release an ultimate Blu-ray box set including all five movies, with 3D versions probably also available.

All of the above must be considered unofficial until there is a formal announcement from the studio.

Arthur Double Feature Blu-ray Announced
Warner Home Video has announced a comedy double feature for Blu-ray release on April 5: Arthur / Arthur 2: On the Rocks. This single-disc release will include both comedies starring the late Dudley Moore as the eponymous irresponsible playboy. No special features have been listed at the moment.
