I got a set of lenses casted from a stunt set and a fan made face shell...problem is, there is only one magnet on each lense and eyehole, but it does not have the clips on the lenses (as seen in screen used pics)..anyone have any ideas to attach the rest of the lense to the face shell without gluing it to the suit?

Get some magnets that are thin and drimmel out the back of the frame till the magnets fit and do the same for the faceshell, then just glue the magnets in the holes you made.

There's a short sew line missing from the hips section. Shame only people who've already sewn a suit will be able to tell tho lol

EDIT: oh, and the Adam's Apple section that needs cutting out and sewing.

Man I know how you feel! I asked McDonald's how they make their big mac sauce and got no response either!

Hmmm.... I wonder if you asked in a "McDonald's Big Mac Sauce & Sauce Creation methods" board? If you did, I would hope you'd receive some sort of useful response, based upon the title of the board.

Take a closer look at our board title... "Spidey Suits & Suit Creation methods". From the title, I'd expect any question about Spidey suits and their creation to be fair game. If you choose to not answer that is your business, but to ridicule someone for asking a question appropriate for this board is uncalled for. This board is for exactly that kind of question. "How did you do that?" is a great Suit Creation method question.

On the other hand, if someone wants to use this board as a "show off" opportunity, there's nothing wrong with that either! "Spidey Suits" is the first half of the name, so show off!

For those who have worked very hard and put tons of time into developing an awesome suit creation method, I can understand that you might not want to give away your secrets. Maybe you'd consider putting together a general "how to" file or even a DVD and sell it to interested people? You don't have to give away the secrets, just show how to put the pieces together, etc.

Something else that may be of use. A sewing guide for a muscle suit. I used two black lycra suits, with foam in between. Then sewed the extra muscle lines to hold it in place and add detail.

Maybe you'd consider putting together a general "how to" file or even a DVD and sell it to interested people? You don't have to give away the secrets, just show how to put the pieces together, etc.

You've got a great point there about the "show off" thing. When I first came here I felt the same way...still do somewhat.

What you've asked is a huge question...but here goes:

1. First you have to decide which kind of suit you want - comic-style or movie or a variation

2. There are two basic ways to make a spiderman suit - either get a pattern dye sublimated (printed) onto 4-way stretch spandex or have normal red and blue cloth cut into patterns

3. If you go the dye sub route...you're going to need a pattern. There's a pattern floating around...and it's also on some SpideyDIY site. That pattern is the "SpideyBoone" pattern. I've been told that this pattern has the dimensions and proportions of the arms and other parts slightly off. I've also heard that the dimensions are NOT off. So you can try that method if you want.

*****Theoretical idea...might not work...just theorizing****
If you are REALLY industrious and want to start from scratch, what I'd do is make a duct-tape dummy (google it) from head to toe then sharpie your proposed seams onto the tape..then cut it all out...then scan it piece by piece. Once you get there...at least you have a base pattern.

You could go further and find a muscle pattern and try to scale it correctly. But that'd be tricky because the way most spidersuits are shaded doesnt look like the pictures online.

Then you'd have to, piece by piece, figure out how to draw the weblines.

Now, if you're content with just drawing the lines, you might use 3d Tulip fabric paint. You could also use a Sharpie (yes people do that).

If you want 3d lines, you could cast 4mm thick lines of urethane tinted back (SpiderMilk did a diagram) and glue those down in the correct spots.

Or you could do a clay sculpt...cast that in plaster or silicone...then pour black-tinted urethane in...then glue it down.

Find good picture of some spiderman eyes you like ...sculpt them in clay, mold them in plaster/silicone and pour in urethane.

The lenses? there's a mesh method...and a white cloth method.

4. If you go the route with 2 different fabrics, you'll want to try it out with newspaper or muslin to make the pattern off of your duct tape dummy. Then look above and figure out how you want to do the webs...like I said above.

If this sounds like a complete mess to you...well it's just a glimpse of how hard it is to do this from scratch. But it's not impossible...someone started from scratch before :)

BTW...here's the comic spidey me and 2 friends have created...and are selling for $399 + 20 shipping.

I agree..But I herd they are really hard to make and Time consuming as well...I would spend at least 1 thousand dollars just to get my hands on one of them if I had the money because I know thats how much they sell for maybe more than that..Although Brad you did an awsome job putting that DK suit together it does look awsome. Nice Job ;)

White fabric doesn't work well for the eyes, visibility is so limited. Over the years I've experimented with a few things and wire mesh spray painted white looks best on camera and for visibility imo.

Nice to see this thread back on track..for a while it was dead I feel bad Brad is the only one posting photos of his Projects on the thread..sorry guys im not a suit maker myself... if I were I would be posting many photos of my spidey suits as well and sharing more of my ideas of how to create and improve a perfect Replica Spidey Suit.. Although I do love to see and comment on other peoples work I think its nice to see when people post there ideas and work on this thread I dont care if its TDK Spiderman IM...I like to see it all. Comic Con is just around the corner so maybe we will see many more photos of fans in there spidey costumes or other Marvel DC Costumes then. :woot:

Brad, you and I have already spoken by PM about this and I figured it was resolved. I understand the position in regards to competition. Fair enough.

It's fine for someone to protect your work...but to rub it in my face is a bit douche-baggy.

And let's be clear, you haven't really helped out a lot of folks with much info in these Spiderman creation threads. More than one objective newcomer has come, asked for help, and replied that there was no real help to be had. That's happened MULTIPLE times over the history of this ...and the original thread.

You know what's funny...Mike Romanenko...even with all the stuff he's gone through...was much nicer...and forthcoming about creation methods than you.

Back when I was just someone who wanted to buy something, I asked if you could do a detachable mask and gloves. Wanna know how you responded? You said "Can't be done. The suit won't look right" Hmmmmm. Looks like you changed your tune once other people started doing it.

I realize that a lot of this might come off as sour grapes since we're in competition, but once you basically said the gloves are off...here's what you get.

I didnt think he was being "douche-baggy" , just complimentary to me. :woot: And I still think the movie suit looks best done in one peice to keep true to the design and it's still the only way I do the urethane webbing suits. My Printed webbing suits I do offer with a separate mask and have done so since day 1.. but good for you for doing everything in parts. .. and yes, your gloves come off, mine still dont...but maybe one day. :woot:

LOL...and I was anxious to ask you that question Brad. But now that you mentioned it and brought it up to my attention I guess its ok to ask.

Are you looking to make suits in pieces in the near future instead of a one or two piece suit I would love to see how your suits turn out as a 7 piece suit using Stur-ups and Clip-ons where the gloves come off the mask the boots, pants..etc im sure you get the point.. Although, I also do see your point in keeping the movie suit design as a one piece very simple..but then again when a 5 or 7 piece design movie suit comes along?? :woot: Maybe in the future you could show us something like this in either Urethane or Printed that would really be something to look foward to seeing with your designs.:woot:

If someone has there heart set on a seven peice suit.... I'd do it. I just try not to make more work for myself then need be. :D A urethane webbing suit done like this just wouldnt look good. There'd be lumps under the arms and neck where the webbing overlaps, so it just looks better to be in a 1 piece suit... and in my opinion you're either fully in character or not.. But that's just my opinion.

Ok so I'm closing in on the eye thing I think.

I'm looking at both cloth and mesh possibilities.

Mesh:
There are several sites that have mesh from 80 microns up past 2000. One of these could yield good results. I'm getting samples from 150 (human hair sized holes) up to 600 microns. There are multiple types of white plastic as well as different kinds of metal.

Cloth
Got a tip from a mascot maker about a fabric called Buckram which is used for fabric stiffening. There are various sizes of holes in this stuff as well as different consistencies.

Crinoline and a few other fuseable interface fabrics also look like a possibilities.

http://www.twpinc.com/images/products/large/WHITE_NYLON_EXTRUDED.jpg

I'll update when I've gotten some of the samples.

EDIT:
Thank you to several people pm'ing me with ideas and things that have worked for them. The notion I've gotten several times is to use frying mesh strainers - that this has the best mix of tight weave and visibility.

Once I figure this out, I'll post the info for everyone to have. I'm not just doing this for myself - but for the community.

Looks fantastic man!!

BTW...I got 2 samples of fabric for possible Spider-eyes...and SCORE!!!

Vogue fabrics has this stuff called buckram...basically you can form it to stiffen fabric. Anyway I got 2 different samples and the Buckram-Stabilizer-White-20" Part 854 is PERFECT. You can see out fairly well (40-35% visibility) but you cant see someone's eyes at ALL.

I should have pics tonight.

I'll pep this model and maybe fiberglass it. At some point I'll mold it and cast it in resin or metallic-tinted urethane. It's missing the nozzle, but that's because I found a great nozzle when I was trapesing through Wal-Mart and will add it later.

does anybody know where i can get a good quality spidey suit at an affordable price?(like possibly below $100? I'm low on cash at the moment =/ )

in terms of specifics, I'd like the costume that's used at universal studios.... but i'm fine with whatever is availabe, as long as it looks good and is affordable

That is plain stunning Brad, excellent work! I agree that suit looks Bad ass tight :woot:..Brad did an awsome job on it..there were some TDK Suit makers selling these exact Replicas on Ebay for almost $2,000 last year for the heights of 6'1 to 6'5 but they only sold several of them because the time and effort to make these suits is drastically difficult. I havnt seen any beening posted up lately like they said they were going to post more up this year...Oh By the way Brad is that suit glued on the manaquin for show or can you actually wear it as well? I dont see the gloves are they underneath or inside the black mold gauntlets? Other than ...it looks freakin Bad Ass Nice Job Brad. :woot:

Just throwing it out there that I've bought copies of a whole bunch of Jester's molds and will be offering them...

1. Urethane spiders - front and back

http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y217/Spetsnaz13/WebSite/ui2ik53bf82852dviewattth128adda568a.jpg

Prices: $55 + shipping for either front or back spiders. $90 for the set.

2. Spiderman Face shell

http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y217/Spetsnaz13/WebSite/spideyshell.jpg

Price of faceshell: $160 + shipping ($10-$15 depending on where you live)

3. Movie-style frames and lenses

Made exactly the same way Jester's were. Mesh with pearl white on the front, black on the back with lenses in front

http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y217/Spetsnaz13/WebSite/lenses.jpg

Due to the cost of doing them in glass and getting the right curve, the price is $150 for the lenses. If a lot of people buy them, the cost will go down.

I am currently making a Urethane webbing suit. Here's a pic of the foot.

http://i76.photobucket.com/albums/j7/Spidey4fun/Spidey4fun/Urethane%20Webbing%20Suit/DSC09894.jpg

I recently received some paint and I thought I'd give it a try. It has some stretch and bonds fairly well to the urethane however if rubbed alot it will come off.... but it doesnt damage the webbing or suit and can easily be re-applied.

http://i76.photobucket.com/albums/j7/Spidey4fun/Spidey4fun/Urethane%20Webbing%20Suit/DSC09900.jpg

So depending on what the owner of this suits wants.... the webbing may be silver.

Dam that looks Nice!:woot: ..but yeah you could tell in this photo that the paint is falling apart its like you would have to apply it so many times for it to stay on but then again its still gonna come off anyway..and worse of all.. once you glue it onto the Lycra then you cant really do anything about it..Brad have you ever thought about airbrushing? Would that work?

spidey4fun
05-23-2010, 09:50 PM
Oh.. the only reason the paint is coming off is because I stretched the the webbing ALOT and rubbed on the paint till some came off. I was testing what sort of treatment the paint can withstand. Under "Normal" wear and tear I doubt there will be a problem, but if it does come off it's easily fixed. It's painted by hand so it doesnt matter if it's already attached to the suit. Airbrushing wouldnt work.

You could probably use a flexible sealant like PermaWet from MonsterMakers that stretches up to 600% and sticks to anything to seal that paint.

Hi everyone,

I don't post here often but I need some help. Two years ago I bought a Spidey Suit from a poster here who also had an ebay auction for it. I forget his name, but he was a nice guy and a great seller. He sold me a suit that he had made for himself but was too small for him.

The body is great, it fits me perfect. But he wasn't quite finished with the mask when he sold me the suit. The eyes are a little uneven in their placing, and there's just too much glue for the black outlines. I had to glue the eyes on myself, and I have no talent or skill for such things.

Also, the suit is only one piece so I can't take off the mask without taking off half the suit. Which sucks when I'm at parties and drunk girls decide they wanna flirt with Spider-Man.

Sooooo I'm looking for some help/advice. I'd like to improve my eyes/mask on the costume by fixing the eyes and separating the mask. So what are my options?

-Should I look into a local tailor and ask them about separating the mask and making it still tight when I put it on?

-Should I perhaps commission someone in here to make me a new mask for the costume (If that's possible)? I'd love to get one of those comic book style masks I've seen in here a couple times.

Any help from anyone here would be greatly appreciated. I'd just like to get some options, weigh them out, and find a way to fix my spidey mask. I'll post some pics of my costume here in a second.

The problem you'll have when separating the mask is you'll need overlap or the skin of your neck will show. Somehow you'll need to fasten the hood to the neck when wearing it. Only advice for the eye frames is to get a larger set of comic frames to cover the mess once the old frames are removed.

Something like this...

Thanks.

Yeah, I'm worried overlapping, which is why I'm afraid of taking it to just some average tailor. And the eye thing makes sense too. I wouldn't mind getting new eyes for the suit.

So who here wants to help me with that? Spidey4Fun, I know from my lurking that you're one of the big costume makers around here. You're probably busy and such and may not be able to take orders, right? But are there any other suit makers I should maybe talk to about fixing mine up? Thanks!

hay shocker 9000 the neck can cause problems if not done correct but i have made suits that have the mask that comes off and have had great luck with not having them roll up on you or shifting around i also my be able to help clean up the mess around the eyes with out having to change the look of them and having to add the bigger comic eyes if you still wanted to keep the movie look

here is some pix of the muscle arm and chest i scilpted and posted a few pages back the arm is just latex like how a mask is made and the chest is a latex skin with a soam back

the top pictures is just the latex arm so you can see how it looks and the bottom is the latex arm and chest under regular spandex dont mind the seam on the shoulder the costume was made to fit me but the persom in the costume has wider shoulders than me so it fit a little odd lol other wise it would look norman also the other arm has no muscles on it so in the front shot you can see how big and superhero looking they will make you

the left hand will be done soon and both will be avaliable soon just email me at jesterfx@ymail.com if you are inturested in them i also will soon be posting pix of the full 15 piece foam muscle suit when it is done it will allow full range of motian and look just as thoes muscles look under spandex it is the same sculpt of the arm just broken up in sections http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a390/jokerman1303/musclearm.jpg

Appreciate any feeback you've got on it dude. Looks worth it to me. Cheers

Suit looks good to me in the pictures. Nice price also. The webbing is an acrylic paint and it will eventually crack and peel but it's pretty easy to fix if you can source the right paint. Good suit for a 1 off fancy dress.

The suit it's compared to (item 220624776983) is in a totally different league. It's printed on red and blue lycra so doesnt fade at all, even when fully stretched and the webbing is made of urethane cast in a mold then glued to the suit. This suit is more for the collector or serious costumer.

Hope that helps.

Beenox, the studio behind the game, is located in Quebec. Contact was made and they hired me to be the official Spidey.

Man was it cool! Kids loved it, parents loved it. Damn even the ladies seemed turned on by the suit, i had hands all over me (and i mean all over) when i was walking among the people.

A tv girl spidey kissed me (on the face shell, so not so hot but anyway).

The lauching was really great and i had the chance to feel like a star with sometimes 10 to 15 photographers and cameramen on me. Once or twice, i litterally couldnt see anything because of the flashes....

Great team, great crowd, great fun... hope to do it again.

Hey guys! I hope this thread is still active…

I’m not really going for a super high quality movie version – I’ll be experimenting with different homebrewed methods over the next few months – kind of like if kick-ass was a little more talented. I’m an artist, so I think I can make it work : ) But I’d like a few of the pieces to be high quality. I’ve got a few (SERIOUS) inquiries:

1) Does anyone here sell eye frames and/or lenses?

2) To hold me over until I get things going with my own suit (and maybe a simple Halloween outfit this year), does anyone have any masks for sale?

I’d rather make a purchase through someone actually on this board, as opposed to being sent off to some other site, so if anyone HERE has anything they’d like to sell, please PM me.

Thanks and keep up the awesome work!

Brad, your urethane webbing suits look outstanding. What glue you using on those webs? Does it stretch? And how does the durability seem?

Glue is called Loctite All Plastics. It doesnt stretch, but the idea is the fabric and urethane will stretch together so the glue just needs to hold the two surfaces together. Honestly.... I hardly ever make these suits so I couldnt say on durability.

Sorry to interrupt ...

I had posted awhile back about mesh possibilities for Spider-Man eyes...and thought I'd come back to report for those who are still trying to make suits themselves.

After a lot of testing...this might have been posted before but it bears repeating...the best/tightest mesh that I've found is the mesh from coffee pot strainers. For a movie look obviously you spray pearlescent white on the front and black on the back. For a comic look, flat white on the front...and optional black on the back.

For a fabric, we've found some white curtain fabric that when double layered gives the see out but dont see in from at least 5 feet away...and in pictures (even up close) is just like the comics.

Just thought I'd discuss ;)

and this picture i wanted to do as a sepirate post that way it did not get confusing. in the above post you see pictures of my shell and lenses now in this picture you will see on the right and side pictures of the original shell and lenses used in spiderman 1 these pix are on the internet in the movie book and in the dvd special features widly seen by this time

on the left is my lenses and fraims that were made to look just like the originals i figured this picture would be the best to show just how close thay are. the lenses are oakley poly carbinate curved lenses like the film the mesh is the bicro mesh painted pearl white on the front and mat black on the back and the fraims are graphite with the places for a magnet and webbings

also you do not need the shell for these to work if ordered as just the lenses i do not add the clips or magnets that way it will work on any costume and you do not have to modify them only as a set of shell and lenses will the clips and magnet be added to the fraims as that is the only time they are needed

also these will work on any sellers spiderman costume both movie or comic and the shell also will work with any regular spandex costume from low end zentai to high end custom made pieces that way any costume can keep that spidey face

if you have any inturest in a set or have any questians pleas email me at jesterfx@ymail.com or visit my site at www.jesterfx.com (http://www.jesterfx.com) pleas do not PM me as i do not come one her all to often and some times my pm gets messed up and i want to make sure i can respond to any questians

thanks brad the only thing i honestly hate about them is the cost :( the lenses alone to have cust cost me an arm and a leg i wish i could bring the cost down a little more but i go through a supplier that gets his lenses from the same distributer oakley orders from so i definatlyu am getting what i pay for and its great to offer oakley lenses but i am looking in to some cheaper lenses that way i can offer them at a lower cost so i can have more pople enjoy thes and the difference in the quality wont be noticible it just the tencile strength of the lense and the scratch resistance

anyone know where i can buy plain suits (and which is better - spandex or lycra?). I'm looking to make a "homemade" suit - something that looks good, but at the same time is conceviable that an average joe can make, so i don't need to get anything screen printed - I'm just looking for a standard "cat suit"; though I might be hitting you up, Jester, for some spider symbols...

a buddy of mine recently made a pretty sweet Mandalorian outfit. He used something like moldable plastic to make the armor. I think i might do that to make some eye frames; that way I can make them exactly how i want.

edit: its called Sintra, if anyone is interested.

you can cut it to shape, heat it up, mold it, then when it dries you can sand/carve/etc.

Sintra's kind of the "Kleenex" or "Xerox" of rigid PVC products. Most sign supply wholesalers offer a "house" brand for much cheaper (about $22 wholesale for a 4'x8'x3mm sheet). If you're in a larger city (especially) see if you can find a sign shop to get you one. Even if they double wholesale, with tax you can get out the door for under $50 with enough PVC to last a while. :cwink:

You can go on ebay and search for zentai if you like. I suppose you could buy a blue catsuit and red catsuit. Cut the red one in the right shape and sew/glue/ it down over the blue one...then draw lines over it. That's not going to be easy by any means, but just taking what you said you wanted to do and brainstorming.

Thank God! :woot: No affense though to anyone here who was or is a Spider-Milk Fan.. he reminded me alot like Spideyfan27 which most of you know about always coming up and posting fake replicas etc proclaiming it to be his own.. although maybe Spider-Milk's work was real or maybe not who knows but to me alot of it seemed fake.

Thanks 4 the vote of confidence spiderman 0884:)

Geeze.

I have just comeback for the very first time in months I tell you, been going through some trouble. I got made homeless at the start of the year and lost my work shop.. Ever since then I have just been trying get back on my feet.. Stay tuned though everything I promised will be coming soon I hope, like my website.. Just more important things to concentrate on...

It seems the forum hasn't been that productive as I've only missed maybe 10 or ore pages any way. Brad your batman costume looks spot on!

Also spiderman 0884, please don't compare me to spiderfan27 or anyone else.

Also for people asking for the free pattern I have decided you need 300 post or more so don't ask until you accomplish this.

So, over in the spider-man reboot threads there’s been a lot of debating over how the suit should look more home made… giving that there’s been a lot of you in here who have made your own spidey suit (which for the most part, all look really good)

I just wanted to get your perspective on how realistic is it that Peter in the movie could’ve designed that suit on his own….

How expensive, and time consuming are these suits to make…????

StanLee Wannabe
10-22-2010, 10:33 AM
Well a lot of kids these days have at least one photoshop/artist friend who posts stuff on DeviantArt...so designing the suit wouldn't be that hard for him.

Our suits cost approximately $399...so if he had a job or sold a guitar he could pay for it. That's for a dye sub suit. Some vendors cost more...depending on options.

Of course in the comics the suits are always getting torn, right? So he'd need more than one probably. Which means if he learned to sew himself ...and didn't do any muscle-shading (he wouldn't need it) he could make a costume for less than $100 himself.

The lines could be done a lot of different ways...cloth, marker, iron-on transfer, black guide tape....or of course dyesub.

You could always ret-con in Aunt May making his costumes ;)

since parker was never one to really tell people who he was not because of trust issues but due to wanting to be a good boy and protect the ones he loves i will say from hands on making these costumes it would be a pain in the ass for him to make a suit that truly was likie in the films all by him self

as you can tell by all of the great suits being made by fans it is a process that the every day person can do his or her self but the process of making one start to finish is a long one from making the costume file to the cnc files for the webs and spiders or hand sculpting them sewing the suits printing the suits making the lenses and all the other little things in between ( not counting the face shell or muscle suit a sthat was only needed for the film since he was a built teen)

now if he did ask people for help yes this suit is easy to make if you find people with the know how or since he is a super smart kid i guess he could read some fx books take some on line classes and be able to make files use photoshop and use a sewing machine and do it all by his self in a few months but no way in hell he would do it either by him self or with help as fast as he did in the films lol

now if he was doing a more comic based suit just red and blue spandex with a screen printed web line and spiders hell that could be done easy as 1 2 3 any one can make a screen for them

all in all yes it could be done but not fast and not all to easy but thank god for movie magic and a big budget and an amazing costume designer :)

givin the contains of this thread… it is arguably possible to make a such a suit…. Though, with working alone, time restrictions , inquiring the know how and necessary skills, the costs and doing it all in secret, it would seem it isn’t very plausible…

Sure it is... I mean if spidey were real and swinging around in your city, every little fan...lol.. and not so little fan would want a spidey suit. He's already shown us he can sell pictures of himself so, he just needs to take it to the next level. Spidey merchandise!!! Peter Parker could if he so wished take the spidey costume in any direction he choose and provide merchandise to the public, including selling top of the line suits, shirts...everything. As a businessman Peter could pretty much have any suit made so desired and so long as it's available to the public the businesses he uses to make his suits wouldnt think he was spidey.... just another entrepreneur out to get in on some spidey action . In spidey 3 when he swings in to accept his thanks from Gwen and the City and every little kid is in a spidey suit..... so who's selling them? Peter needs to get in on some of that action....lol....

I'm not trying to ruffle any feathers, but since you brought up the topic of the thread...

this thread seems to have turned into more of a gallery of 98% of one person's work...with no discussion of methods...and 2% the occasional other picture of stuff.

Is it so wrong to want this to be a resource for methods and discussion rather than a sales thread all the time? I'm not throwing stones...I sell suits too...but I've seen people drop in and post other than me who ask "why isn't this thread about methods ?"

JESTER FX
10-25-2010, 02:24 PM
i to also sell stanleewannab you may or may not know that lol ;) but as much as i aggree that this has turned more in 2 a gallery/sails thread and a display page for one or 2 of the top sellers and hay i am guilty of posting pix on here and trying to make some extra cash i am 2 sided on it

yes it can be annoying sighning on and seeing the same persons suit on different customers as you can only see the same suit so many times before you just have seen it enough but on the other side of the coin its been 10 years since the first movie has been made their were minor changes out side of color and spiders and palm webbing on all 3 suits the face shell lenses and muscle suits under the costume changed more movie to movie than the costume did lol

so i can see how it has turned form a how to page to more of a look at how all of our general info that has been said over and over and needs no explination now has changed to beter molds and betor colors and fabrics

yes this could go back to how to make the suits but what really has not been said about how to make them after 10 years honestly the only thing some one has not made like the film yet is the boots and thats because thay are super costly to have made like the film trust me i checked in to it and the boots that sellers are yousing like yours and brads are ****ing amazing and really dont need changing

now i am not ranting or also trying to throw stones and kick up dirt i totally get your point but being on both ends of the fence their really is no more info to be told it has all been said over and over again and every movie pic of the costume that can be found has been posted so whay not show off your amazing costume here unless we all make a thread just for displaying final suits for show or sails purposes

What kind of glue should I use to apply the foamie spiders to the front and back of the spandex with? I wanna make sure they stay on!

Also, I bought some aquasocks and am thinking of cutting all the crap off of them and then gluing the bottom of the spandex feet to the inside of the aquasock, am I doing that right?

Thanks guys!

spiderfan970,

Foamies are NOT a great idea for making front and back spiders. The foam will rip really easily. I know you're probably doing it that way to save money, but there are better, easier ways. Making a latex casting of the foamie piece you've already cut isn't hard. The mold is as easy as cutting the shape out of clay, pouring latex in the hole, and letting it dry.

If you MUST attach foamies to spandex, loc-tite or superglue will work (the topic comes up over on the costuming forums http://www.thesuperherocostumingforum.yuku.com/) or if you find zap-a-gap which works well with fabric.

Are you sealing the foamies first and painting them? Again, not hard to do. Just take glue and water mix and apply 5-6 coats so that the foamies will take paint. You can also take fabric paint (puffy, tulip paint) and do a coat over the top of the foamies to make it look better.

For the shoes

Yeah, all you have to do is trim them down to the soles...then find Barge cement or any kind of rubber cement that you can brush into the soles. Easy to find at hardware stores. DAP is one kind. When you do this, make sure that you are wearing socks on the inside of your suit. Then put your suit on ...then step into the soles and wear it for awhile.

There is another way to do this, but it's not for the timid. If you want it to look a bit better...buy deck shoes/kung-fu shoes. Wear them inside the suit...then use stick pins to pin the suit down to the shoes. At this point you will CUT the suit pattern to remove the part covering the actual soles. Again...dont do this if you're too afraid of messing up the suit. You'll glue down the suit around the edges and have a really crips, non-aqua sock sole.

spiderfan970

Thanks for the responses guys! I did end up going to buy some loctite and used that for the foamies. Stan's advice is great though, I'm going to save that for future costumes. As for the shoes I just used loctite on that too and it held out for most of the evening. Didn't start coming undone until it was time to go home anyway.

The only other problem I encountered was the mesh over my eyes. When I made the mask I cut the black part out of vynl and ironed it onto the mask then cut the red out. Then after that I took some action figure wrapping plastic and then white mesh under that and super glued them to the other side. The mesh bothered me whenever I put on the mask, any suggestions for holding it down? I tried tape but that won't work. Also the super glue wasn't holding very well. Any suggestions for those issues? I'm thinking of ripping off the plastic and just doing the mesh, I think the plastic was fogging up when we went out.

You have to realize that was simply comic style. If you saw any costume such as spiderman's, realistically, and then dried to draw it in cartoon form- it's going to lose a lot of its details that make it look realistic. Imagine it coming from a kids mind as he drew what he remembered spiderman's colors/details looking like..

The vision was fine till it got hot...

The lenses on that black suit look a lot like the lenses on an alien mask I used to have. (Not saying that's what you did...just helping people who might want to do it themselves)

Great suits!

(Brad is there a reason why you called him out on posting old pics?)

I think he was just commenting on how they were top of the edge back then and now, even so many years down the road, they still look like some of the best suits around..

That's how I feel at least. Ollie's suit is still the most screen accurate to me and my favorite suit. I'd love to own one..

Nope.. it was plain to see they were taken when spidey II was released...well two of them anyways. Actually, it's quite a complement. Back in 2004 Wams was wearing quality like that.... You're such a lawyer....lol...

They closed it. When a thread reaches 20,000 posts they close it. Reaching 20,000 posts tells me its a popular thread enjoyed by many people... but here... it means it's time to close it... go figure!!! Happy New year Martin.

WOW... it really reached 20.000 posts? Amazing... it must have been the oldest and biggest thread in the forum.

I've been cleaning up my computer in the last days and found some old pics of my first suit. Made with the help of some people in this thread. Funny pics... with a younger Martin... 10 years ago. :)
May be i'm going to make a new suit this year.
