He's just keeping things in perspective... I don't know if he wants to direct though. Deep down he probably does, but he probably has doubts that he can make it work. I got confidence he could direct but with IM3 looming, they should bring in someone else.

The title of the article is misleading. Favreau said that it may be a mighty success or a doomed failure. While The Avengers will be complex, I have faith in Marvel and the guys at the helm. Two movies in, everything looks great, with another great one on the way. I have very little concern over it's success.

Favreau just presents a very logical and tempered viewpoint. It totally makes sense. He also said the Avengers could provide an opportunity to do something other than the typical third movie that tends to disappoint a way to circumvent that.

what he means is it's perfectly natural to worry about something your involved in.
e.g. a football player with a big game coming up,
you can be confident and passionate, but you can still be worried it will go wrong.

Yeah, VERY misleading headline here. Every film could go either way. If you watch the DVD extras on Iron Man, he said the exact same thing about that film prior to its release. We all know how great that one turned out.

Also, we've never had a franchise building towards a mega cross-over like this before. It's epic and it will be HUGE. Making these films under the same tent with one eye towards Avengers is groundbreaking and a remarkable idea that will pay off in terms of quality and success.

Favreau just signed a deal to direct Cowboys and Aliens. http://www.heatvisionblog.com/2009/09/jon-favreau-making-cowboys-and-aliens.html Likely scheduled for a 2011 release. Would that take him out of The Avengers? CaA won't film until 2010 and then there is post-production, might be tight for him to start pre-production for The Avengers in 2010. He may want to take a break and go with Iron Man 3.

And Jon Favreau, the director of Iron Man and its upcoming sequel who could end up taking the reins on the Avengers, has now admitted it could either be a success or a letdown...Seriously? They think we needed someone in film to come along and tell us a movie might do well, or it might not? How is that any different than any other movie ever made?:whatever:

Not to mention if you actually read the artical he's saying that it is really a sure fire success film.

We'll know all the key players already so Avengers will be a climax, a culmination, rather than a cumbersome origin story trying to flesh out multiple characters. The team dynamic will be new to us but its members will not

What I don't want to see happening is Ant-Man going to Pixar and then having the character come back in a live action sequel. They have to make it live action and between Avengers and a potential sequel, otherwise just introduce him in the sequel as he is, but he deserves his own film prior. And I don't want his solo film to be animation after appearing in live action in Avengers sequels either, unless it's direct to video/TV or something cheap like that.
