Still pretty sparse on information, but it's nice to know someone, somewhere is working on making a Thor game a reality. I dreamed, but I never thought we'd actually get one. :)

Basically a bloodless, Norse "God Of War" with a likable/heroic personality and a Hammer in place of blades.

Still loving Viking:battle for Asgard Corpy. I think you may too.

I liked the designs of the game but it was way too repetive.. They had a great idea going on but doing the same thing in 3 islands pretty much shows why most reviews were like 6/10 or so. They definatly got the big fights done right, those were fun!

I like Viking type things Drz. ANYTHING like that I buy as soon as I can.
I was in heaven with Marvel Ultimate Alliance taking place on Asgard.

We definitely will, provided they actually show any gameplay footage and not just some CGI trailer. The gaming media is even worse about bootlegging stuff from conventions than the comic book media. :)

SEGA has excited legions of Marvel fans by unveiling Thor: The Video Game for release on "all five major consoles" in summer 2011.
SEGA has then cast a shadow of doubt over the project by revealing it to be an accompaniment of the Thor film.
No one mention Iron Man (http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/iron-man-review).
Still, Thor may have some legs. Acclaimed writer Matt Fraction (!) is consulting on the story and drawing inspiration from the comic and not, apparently, the film.
You'll obviously be muscular man Thor [who doesn't have a beard -Ed] who wields his massive storm-controlling Mjolnir hammer into the face of any that stand in his way. You'll be able to upgrade your Thor as the game progresses.
The PS3 and Xbox 360 games will have the graphical clout, where as the Wii, DS and PSP games "will be presented in a comic book style".
No assets yet.

Sega confirmed today it will launch an "epic" Thor third-person adventure game in summer 2011 to coincide with the release of the Marvel Studios film. Writer Matt Fraction is serving as a story (http://robot6.comicbookresources.com/2010/07/sega-confirms-thor-the-video-game-for-summer-2011/#) consultant.
According to the announcement, Thor: The Video Game "will delve deep into the heroic tales of the Thor universe," with players battling "an array of ancient enemies and beasts from the many worlds of Norse mythology by using different battle strategies and elemental powers." Mjolnir will allow gamers to command the powers of the storm. Thor is being developed for all five major console platforms.
Word of the video game leaked in September (http://www.next-gen.biz/news/leaked-sonys-motion-control-plans-ps2-emulator-for-ps3) when notes from a meeting between representatives of Sega and Sony Computer Entertainment America were discovered on a Sega America FTP site.
See the full press release after the break:

The God of Thunder Strikes! Thor: The Video Game Coming 2011
LONDON & SAN FRANCISCO (July 20th, 2010) – SEGA® Europe Ltd. and SEGA® of America, Inc. today announced they will bring Marvel Entertainment Inc.’s hall-of-fame franchise Thor™ to video game (http://robot6.comicbookresources.com/2010/07/sega-confirms-thor-the-video-game-for-summer-2011/#) systems in an epic third-person adventure game. Thor: The Video Game™ is scheduled for release on all five major console platforms in summer 2011.
Thor: The Video Game will delve deep into the heroic tales of the Thor universe. Eisner Award-winning writer and lead Thor comic book author Matt Fraction brings authenticity to the narrative as a story consultant, and elevates the story beyond the comic and movie universe throughout the video game. Players will take on an array of ancient enemies and beasts from the many worlds of Norse mythology by using different battle strategies and elemental powers. The sacred Mjolnir, Thor’s legendary hammer, will allow players to command the powers of the storm: wind, thunder and lightning. By earning Valor in combat throughout the game, players will also be able to select from a wider range of abilities, acquire new attacks, powers and upgrades.
“We are proud to be bringing Thor to his first solo video game adventure” commented Gary Knight, Senior Vice President of Marketing at SEGA Europe and SEGA America. “Thor: The Video Game will finally bring the immense power of this iconic hero to lifelong fans, and introduce the God of Thunder to a whole new audience as a true Marvel Super Hero.”
Each version of the game is being developed to take advantage of all five console platforms. The PLAYSTATION®3 and Xbox 360® version will feature cinematic, third-person action gameplay with melee combos, ranged hammer throws, tide-turning elemental powers and an upgrade system to bolster Thor’s powers as gamers progress. Players will be able to follow the same overarching story in the PSP™, Nintendo Wii™ and DS™ versions presented in a comic book style, allowing fans to explore new content in the same universe.
While taking its inspiration directly from the mythology of the comics, Thor: The Video Game will launch around the time of the upcoming Thor film (http://robot6.comicbookresources.com/2010/07/sega-confirms-thor-the-video-game-for-summer-2011/#) adaptation from Marvel Studios.
Brought to the Marvel Universe by the legendary Stan Lee and his brother Larry Lieber, and penciled by noted artist Jack Kirby, Thor first appeared in Marvel Comics in 1962. Based on Norse mythology, the Marvel character of Thor became a comic book Super Hero both in his own right and as a member of the Avengers alongside comic book icons The Hulk™, Iron Man™ and Captain America™. Thor: The Video Game marks the character’s progression from mythology to comics, TV, then film and now to interactive entertainment in his first standalone appearance in a videogame.

But yeah at this point, I've 0 faith in SEGA as a publisher. They've pretty much sunk every Marvel game given to them spectacularly.

About time Thor's getting his own game and appearing in MvC.

For those that are worried about SEGA making the Thor game, just remember the developers that made the Iron Man games no longer exist, IM2 was their last game, so hopefully SEGA has better developers working on Thor.

Also TIH game that SEGA made was a pretty solid game, it got pretty decent reviews so there's definitly hope for this game.

More Q&A thanks to RealIronMan

Q1) I know you guys (http://forums.superherohype.com/showthread.php?p=19216647&posted=1#) are releasing info on December but will that include gameplay videos of Thor game for 360 and PS3?

Sega: "You will get to see more gameplay footage from all the different versions starting in December and throughout the months that follow."

Q2) Will Thor throw his hammer in the 360 and PS3 version and how does this mechanic work?

Sega: "Yes, Thor can throw his hammer in all versions of the game. The way it works depends on the version of the game."

Q3) Will we see some alternate costumes for Thor in this game?

Sega: "Yes, there will be several alternate costumes to unlock."

Q4) Will there be any cheat codes for the game (we really need some)?

Sega: "We're not a big fans of cheat codes, but one never knows. ;-)"

More Q&A thanks to RealIronMan

Q1) How do you think your 360/PS3 version of THOR compares with the best action games that everyone praises (without naming them)?

Sega: "Well, all we can say is that we do some things that are quite unique to this genre and that the game has some amazing aspects to it, including some truly beautiful environments. Once we release more info and videos, it will be neat to see what other people think."

Q2) In "God of Thunder" will Thor verse more giant villians then just Surtur, Ymir, and Ulik will he verse tall frost giants. Another question will Thor be traveling the 9 worlds?

Sega: "There are a lot of different enemies and bosses across the different versions of the game with quite a large variety in sizes. So, yes, you will see several enemies that tower over Thor and some that are actually smaller than Thor."

Q3) Will Thor explore the 9 worlds that he travels in the game for 360/PS3? Will the game have the huge scale of exploration

Sega: "There is some exploration for sure and each version contains several of the Nine Worlds. However, the Wii and DS versions contain additional worlds that are not in other versions."

Q4) Why did you decide to make different Thor games for different systems? What if someone has 360 only and not Wii or PSP or viceversa and can't play the whole experience?

Sega: "We wanted to design games that worked best for each system. We did not want to just take a 360/PS3 game and try to squeeze it onto the Wii. As with the DS version, each game has its own strengths and we hope that fans will want to play all three versions of the game to see all the worlds and characters.

Even if you only have a 360, though, you still get a full adventure to enjoy and will feel you have had a full experience with Thor. That is the case with all the versions."

SEGA® of America, Inc. today announced they have signed Chris Hemsworth to voice the title role and Tom Hiddleston to voice Loki in the upcoming action adventure Thor™: God of Thunder.

Both actors’ likenesses will also be used in the game, which is based on the legendary franchise from Marvel Entertainment, and marks Thor’s first standalone appearance in a video game.

“Bringing in Chris and Tom to star in Thor: God of Thunder gives us AAA talent that will create a truly cinematic interactive experience,” said Gary Knight, Senior Vice President of Marketing at SEGA Europe and SEGA of America. “Mighty Thor and the trickster Loki will face off with real emotion while giving fans visual and vocal continuity between the video game and film adaptations of the Marvel franchise.”

Thor: God of Thunder will take players through an original, epic-scale third-person action adventure for which Matt Fraction, the Eisner Award-winning writer and lead Thor comic book author, served as story consultant.

In the game, Thor battles through the numerous worlds of Norse mythology to save Asgard. Players will wield the iconic Mjölnir, Thor’s legendary hammer, to fight enemies of an immense scale while controlling the elemental storm powers of lightning, thunder and wind to vanquish enemies. Thor must overcome monstrous foes lifted from the pages of the comics, including Ulik, Ymir and Surtur, as well as other daunting enemies.

"Thor: God of Thunder" is scheduled for release spring 2011 on all major video game platforms.
Australian actor Chris Hemsworth played George Kirk in the 2009 "Star Trek" film before portraying the title role in Marvel Studios' "Thor" film and SEGA’s upcoming game, and he will pick up the hammer once more in 2012 for "Marvel Studios’ The Avengers." He has also appeared in a variety of TV roles and in films such as "A Perfect Getaway," "Ca$h" and more.
Tom Hiddleston graduated from the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art and has gone on to star in a number of critically acclaimed television productions including "Return to Cranford" and "Wallander." He has also received universal praise on stage in a number of roles including a hugely successful production of Shakespeare's Othello alongside Chiwetel Ejiofor and Ewan McGregor, and an Olivier Award-winning performance in Cymbeline. In addition to voicing the role of Loki in "Thor: God of Thunder," he plays Loki in the upcoming "Thor" film adaptation from Marvel Studios and in 2011 will also star in Woody Allen's "Midnight in Paris" and Steven Spielberg's "War Horse."

I was just gonna say that I wish we could get some more information about the PS3/360 version, since I don't even own a Wii. But that trailer on the game's website scratched that particular itch. No way that's from the Wii version, unless devs have found ways to coax some amazingly impressive graphics out of the Wii since the last time I played one. I really hope this game is good. It has a lot of potential, but following games like the Iron Man tie ins is not a good starting point. I keep hearing that it's like God of War, but I find that extremely hard to believe given the nature of the content.

Then again, here's to hoping I'm completely wrong and this game breaks the mold for movie tie ins.

Hey guys! I have the game for 360 and Nintendo DS. I've been playing the 360 game and it's a poor man's god of war. I really enjoy it. It's not a complete failure like the Iron man games.

It's just great to play as Thor for the first time.

It's a 6 or a 7 on the ign scale.

I'm starting on the DS one right now.

Still debating on whether or not I should fork over $60 for this game. The videos/screen shots all look great, but then again, so did the ones for Iron Man, and we all know how much of a failure both of those were. I did read that there's going to be a ton of unlockables in the form of costumes, comics, videos, etc.

Any review/information would be greatly appreciated.

It's not great, it's not even very good. But it's fun, could've been worse. You can unlock a costume with the helmet.

True - but like you said in some crazy way it's fun. And hard. I'm getting my butt kicked in Vanaheim. You have to save your "transport" from foes and you're fighting endless respawns - If anyone knows how to beat them I would love to hear it :yay:

So, would you say it's worth the $60?

I heard that the classic and Ultimate costumes were unlockable on all platforms except for the DS. Is that true?

What would you guys give it on a scale of 1-10? For me, both Iron Man games were complete and utter failures, and the last Spider-Man movie game was a joke. So far, for me, the best movie tie-in has got to be the Wolverine game. Hell, that game was what the movie should have been.

It's a 6-7 game on mainstream gamesites. It could end up getting 5 on some sites. Unless you're a Thor die hard wait for a price drop. I still Think it's way better than Iron Man 1 & 2.

Yeah, we'll see. I have wanted to play a Thor game, but the reviews are mediocre at best. I do like the idea of unlockable content to collect, I'm just not sure if it's worth the $50. Actually, I hear that the Wii version of the game is a lot of fun, and has bonus levels that take place on Earth. Maybe that's the one to check out?

I'm playing it right now. Is it perfect? No. Is it fun? Of course.

It's not as bad as the previous IM games, if I had to put it up against a movie game, I would say its about a TIH or SM3.

Sega actually took a little bit more care with this game, and it does show. It is a button masher, but you are able to unlock more moves and valor as you progress.

And if you play it, make sure that you destroy all the ice shards in Asgard. Many of them hold the unlockable stuff.

I'm gonna have to wait a while to get it. I definitely want to buy it, but the ol' finances make that a questionable proposition at the moment. Plus, even for as big a Thor fan as I am, it doesn't really seem like it's worth the full, triple-A game price. Hopefully it'll drop to like $40 or $30 soon.

If you liked those games, then yeah, I'd say you would enjoy this one.

I would say pick it up man, you don't have much to lose. As I've progressed through the game, I have had a few hiccups, but it's still didn't take away the fun of it.

Before you start the game, go into the options menu. And you have the choice of playing the game with his helmet or not.

Also, on Marvel.com there's a fun 16-bit Thor game called Thor: Bring The Thunder.

Before. It's not tied to the movie that much, from what I've seen.

Picked this one up today. Took advantage of that Gamestop deal where you get an extra $10 if you trade in 3 or more games.

The game is fun. It's definitely no God of War, but it's a good start for future Thor video games. The combat is interesting. Thor has a lot of different combos and powers at his disposal, but some of them are tricky to pull off because they're one button, or a split second different than another combo. The grapple moves are pretty cool though. Some are tricky, and I do like that the enemy can counter - and you can counter that.

The graphics are good, but the cut scenes are nowhere near as good as they should look. I saw some cut scene graphics that looked awesome - I'm guessing those were for the Wii version, because I don't see them anywhere in the XBOX version.

Overall, it is fun to play as Thor, and the developers did pay attention to what went into the game. Unfortunately, just not ENOUGH attention as they should. It's definitely not a bad game, but it's far from great. It's fun, it's entertaining, and it's a nice warm up to what's sure to be one hell of a comic book movie.

The last costume is Destroyer Thor.

Also, if you want you can change the color of your lighting attack...

Blue, Red, Yellow, Green, Pink, Orange(?)

Destroyer Thor? That's kinda lame. I seriously doubt there's going to be any quality DLC released for this one either.

BizarroAids

No, I can't see them adding any DLC. Although, I didn't think they would for TIH, but then it had the multiplayer option. So I guess ya never know.

That's true. I actually traded that in for Thor. Talk about a missed opportunity with a Hulk game. Those boss levels were a joke. Ultimate Destruction is still the single best Hulk game, and one of the best comic based games of all time.

My biggest problem with Thor is the SUPER repetitive combat and the lack of check points. I got to the point where you have to destroy the 4 turrets in the swamp. Got all the way to the last one, took one hit and died. This happened about 4 times. Each time I died....ALL the way back to the beginning.

It got to me too. Beat him until he disappears, then run back over to that ancient ruin thing and try to activate it. He might attack you before you get the thing all the way filled, but just beat him up until he disappears again and start the process over. You'll get it.

I'm actually stuck on the main boss fight for the troll level. The guy just does the same ground smash attack over and over, and when I hurt him (which isn't much), he jumps up, and throws one of those canisters at me. I have to say, some of the grapple mini-games show hints of greatness in what could be an awesome Thor game. Some of is lighting/thunder finishers are pretty awesome. Just wish they would've paid more attention to the combat, moves, and overall story.

Has anyone unlocked one of the costumes? I can't find a second costume "power up" (don't know how to call it).
Can someone tell me if you have the Ultimates Mjolnir when playing as Ultimate Thor?

At the moment I am stuck in the Asgard Siege level. Don't know how to beat a big frost giant in less than 1 minute. After I destroyed two of his 5 shields, Asgard is falling and the game is over.
Kind of frustrating! Would be great if someone could help me.

Overall I like the game! The graphics are not good but it's a good feeling to play as a god! :-)

I just unlocked the Ultimate costume. The second token is found in Muslepheim. You have to listen for the sound of the secret tokens. I usually spin Mjolnir and Thor will automatically target whatever section you need to break to find the token.

The Ultimate costume isn't really all that great. You can't even see the circles on his chest. He basically looks like a biker.

I haven't heard anyone mention that yet. I don't think alot of people beat it yet. But I would assume so. Most games let you carry over stuff like that ie The Force Unleashed I,II.

So is this hack and slash game even on par with other clones such as Dante's Inferno and Darksiders?

One thing I noticed from preview vids is that the bosses seem terribly unresponsive. Example: You dodge behind the enemy and the enemy still attacks in front of itself for a bit before realizing your gone.

The fact that the major reviewing sites haven't touch this yet tells me it is probably crap but that they don't want to review it yet so that it might not turn some people off from the movie for wtv reason.

If this game came out on the ps2 back in 2004 it would be acceptable. As it stands I feel that it is just another rushed movie inspired game which just plays poorly and doesn't capture what it should feel like to be Thor. Kind of like how the Iron Man games did not make me feel like Iron Man.
The animation, gameplay and graphics hardly compare to the original GOW.
I rather play any GOW, Dante's Inferno or Darksiders before ever touching this steamer again and it frustrates me that the die-hard Thor fans seem to subject themselves to this drivel and support it because of their love for the character.
Marvel should approach their games with the same level of respect and effort as they do their movies.

I have to agree with Bubonic. This game just plain sucks. There are moments of fun and greatness, but those are very few and far between. Basically, the entire point of the game is: travel to a new realm, fight hordes of enemies, look for power up icons, light up a bunch of ruins, defeat the boss, move on.

The problem I have, is that Thor never really feels all that powerful in this game. They either severely powered him down, or made the enemies ridiculously powerful, either way, it doesn't work. He's supposed to be a God, one smack from Mjolnir should take out almost any smaller enemy, instead, you'll knock them down repeatedly, only for them to get back up. It's ridiculous.

I wanted to like this game, I really, really did. The movie was incredible, and I was very excited to finally be able to control Thor in his own video game, but this is not Thor. This is a severely watered down, and rushed version of him. The "cut scenes" (if you want to call them that) are a joke, the voice acting is sub par (come on Hemsworth, you couldn't have put more into the "for Asgard!"?), and the combat is overly repetitive.

I would save your money until this goes in the discount bins. I'm trading it in today for something else. It's really not even worth finishing - and I'm on the last level.

You know, I was thinking of this, but the armor that the characters wear in the Thor movie would make really neat armor sets for the Monster Hunter game series. I mean how awesome would it be to hunt monsters like Rathalos or Alatreon wearing Thor's armor and wielding a hammer. On Portable 3rd the closest I can come to making an armor that looks like Loki's is mostly male Escadora. I'm stumped as to what to make the helm from since there aren't very many male headpieces that have Loki's horns on them.

P.S. I'm kind of creeped out by the fact that Loki in the Avengers movie looks almost identical to the Loki character file I made in my MHP3rd game, long hair and all.
