I'm not sure if this is legit yet, because I haven't heard about it on any other site yet. The article is in a different language, so I translated it below.

Article: http://www.ystadsallehanda.se/article/20091004/TTNOJE/110049978/2160/TYCKTTANKT/&/Stellan-Skarsgard-spelar-i-%E2%80%99Thor%E2%80%99

Translated:

Stellan Skarsgård is ready for a role in action movie "Thor."

He will thus play against Hollywood star Natalie Portman.

The film, based on a comic strip about the god Thor fighting criminals in today's world, directed by Kenneth Branagh.

Everything is still secret about the document and Skarsgard can not reveal what role he will play.

- They wanted me to sign without reading the script. That I refused to do. Then they sent one to me that was so

coded that I could only print one copy, "says Stellan Skarsgård to TT spectra.

Some time ago it was said that Stellan Skarsgård's son, Alexander Skarsgård, was on its way to the title role in "Thor". In the end however, it became Chris Hemworth, known from, inter alia, "Star Trek" who got the job.

The recordings of "Thor" begins in spring 2010, with planned theatrical release in May 2011. It was previously Natalie Portman ready for one of the leading roles.

But already a few weeks started the recordings of the Norwegian film "The King of Bastøy", a reality-based drama about an island in the Oslo Fjord. Stellan Skarsgård plays the key role.

Stellan Skarsgard is great, and has been one of my top choices for Odin for quite some time. But if he were to be cast as Odin NOW, it would only heighten the disappointment of Alexander Skarsgard not getting the part of Thor. :(

Heimdall, perhaps?

I refuse to give up on the thought of Brian Blessed as Odin unless it is confirmed otherwise ;)

I agree with your post Chewy. I hope its Heimdall

Glad he got the a role.

I think he nabbed Odin. He's too aged for the other roles except for an unknown one.

I do too but I want Blessed as Odin, and only having Stellan as Odin would make me want Alexander as Thor...

Unlucky for Alexander. Losing out for a part in a movie and then your dad gets a role in the movie too.

Perhaps Marvel can give him a role in another movie. He would make a good hawkeye.

I think he'd make a good Cap. And to hell with all this "Cap must be played by an American" stuff.

alex looks like he is destined to play a villain tho lol

i think this just confirms that hemsworth must of blown marvel away if they still casted alex's father

I love Alexander Skarsgård as that Norse vampire Erik in True Blood, and although I also like Hemsworth I think he would've been more believable as Thor, esp. since he has the right age (Hemsworth is a bit young), and the presence to play as a Norse god. I do hope Alexander Skarsgård will get a good superhero role eventually, because he looks like one already. Maybe he can have a shot as Cap America? :)

Hemsworth better be good... that's all I can say. If he is just going to show up and be some pretty boy flashing the looks and the body like an Orlando Bloom (even though he was decent in LOTR) I'll be pissed.

I'm still bitter about Alexander not getting the role
I guess they thought being young, talented, good-looking, really tall and scandinavian wasn't enough

:whatever: Oh well...

Well how about that, Stellan is another of KB's buddies that has worked his way into this film. I guess this means Stellan will end up as either Heimdall or even Odin (with Blessed playing Volstagg).

Yeah, Alexander is really perfect for the part, but for some reason they don't think so. Oh well.

Wasn't it said that at the grand old age of 34, they thought he was too old?

TheCorpulent1

That was probably a strike against him, but I doubt it was insurmountable. Branagh met with him a couple times even after all the age nonsense came up for a reason, after all.

yea it was probably a decision from kevin B/kevin F/studio. Who really knows. Maybe we can have a feature on dvd set on casting/screen tests and all that.

He'd be cool as Kang to build up for the Avengers.
