View Full Version : Best Film Villain of the 2000s?

This is more of an option poll, but seeing how its very close to the end of 2009 and 2010, which is the new start of a new decade, it leaves the question: Who were the best film villains this decade?

For me its these people.

http://i48.tinypic.com/2ikcy2d.jpg

5. Adrian Veidt / Ozymandias (Watchmen)

He's much like Lex Luthor, but unlike he actually got away with his plans and put the fault on his world's Superman.

http://i180.photobucket.com/albums/x88/horrorrpg/Saw/Saw%20V/Mark%20Hoffman/s5hoffmancoffinauto.jpg

4. Mark Hoffman (SAW series)

In the third film, he was just a background character. However enter SAW IV, V, and VI, where this character become one truly evil bastard.

In IV, he's presumably the one behind Rigg's game, which lead the horrific death of Eric Matthews and confirmation that he was apart of John's plans, and Jeff's death while tormenting the FBI agents that have been sent to capture Jigsaw.

In V, his real form of evil begins to show after tricking Strahm which lead to his gruesome death and shown that he killed without remorse during the trap that was made to kill his sister's killer.

In VI, he takes the cake for villainy. First, he blackmails Amanda into killing Lynn, so John would never know that it was her that lead the chain of events that killed his unborn child and made him into becoming Jigsaw. Second, he outright brutally kills agents Erickson and Perez, the latter whom was thought to be dead after being mortally wounded during a bomb trap.

2. The Joker (The Dark Knight)

http://i48.tinypic.com/118225l.jpg

2. Anton Chigurh (No Country for Old Men)

Tied for the two spot.

If The Joker is the ultimate form for anarchistic mayhem, then Anton is the ultimate form of walking evil. Never have a hitman look so terrifying, killing his victims without mercy and sometimes without cause, or giving their a moral choice with the flip of a coin.

And with the Joker, need I say more?

http://i47.tinypic.com/24n4spi.jpg

1. Agent Smith (The Matrix films)

Sure, the Smith character debuted in 1999 but it wasn't until the Matrix sequels that he started to shine as a AI supervillain with megalomaniac intentions. In those ones, he'd best Neo, who's like Superman, more then once and killed him twice, only to get attacked with a surprise.

Those are my choices, what's yours for villains of the decade?

I don't think Doc Ock should count. He turned good at the end. That's the one thing I hate about the Spidey films: no one bad stays bad. Except for Norman. It's like they aim to portray Spidey as the ultimate super counselor rather than a superhero.

Joker FTW. I have to admit though, I haven't seen no country for old men, so I can only speak for what I've actually watched.

Ozymandias is a great pick as well.

Also: Elijah Price/Mr. Glass from "Unbreakable". The dude slaughtered hundreds if not thousands of people on the ridiculous and vague notion that one person might survive and be a real life superhero. Nevermind that he ended up being right, he was still a homicidal loon.

yeah, mr.j was epic, but his scale of terror lasted only a couple months/weeks. you-know-who's? three long years.

four movies (well, five, depending on your POV).
at least 2 dozen kills.
returns from a 14 year hiatus.
blew up the ministry of magic.
destroyed a bridge with some peeps on it.
kills his own henchman, like *that*
starts to affect muggles, who dont even know about him

fighting the boy wizard? priceless.
and more badass stuff. dont get me wrong, joker = love, but the dark lord would pwn joker, like that

Anton Chigurh, I mean seriously have you all seen No Country For Old Men?

Landa from Inglorious Basterds deserves are spot here as well. For longevity I'd say Lord Voldemort (oh no I said his name!) because it's been like a decade and he's STILL a living breating villain. As much as I hate people shouting out the Joker like he's some type of divine god I must put him here as well.

I thought it was a little bit boring as well the first time but 5 or so times later it isn't boring at all. I love hearing the accent Tommy Lee Jones has, especially the part when he and his partner go to the shoot out scene and they talk to each other about what they think happened.

1. Heath as The Joker
2. Ralph Fiennes as Voldemort
3. Ian McKellen as Magneto
4. The villains of The Lord of the Rings (I don’t really want LotR to take up 3 spots, and I can’t choose between Sauron, Saruman, and Gollum, so I’m cheating it.)
5. Bill Nighy as Davy Jones
6. Ian McDiarmid as Emperor Palpatine
7. Sergi Lopez as Capt. Vidal (Pan's Labyrinth)

I don't think he's the best, but I still believe Denzel Washington as Alonzo Harris should be mentioned.

And looking back at the Dark Knight, I do agree that Joker is number one. I watch it last night, and Joker's dialogue is always clever and never dull, down to the way he deceives everyone. This Joker was even humoruous at times like when set a firetruck on fire, or wearing the nurses costume with a Harvey Dent button on it. Joker nearly succeeded in destroying Gotham City physically, mentally, and emotionally. How many of these film villains can say that near single-handedly brought a city to its knees in every aspect?

Heath's performance was amazing, and not overrated like some of these TDK backlashers foolishly believe.

Say what you will about the prequels(and belive me i have heard just about everything you can) Who else can claim to learn all from a master then kill him. Trick a entire galaxy into think ing your a innocent old man behind the scene, while removing and killing rivals in the process and gain ultimate power. Then engulf the galaxy in a war that kills millions and end it all with killing a entire group that reprsents good in the galaxy which paves the way for a empire that rules by fear.

I liked Joker alot in Dark KNight, but Palpatine I think out does him with his actions.

Also Chigurh was awesome and after watching the movie I walked home in silence and expected him to show up behind me with a cattle gun.

Bill the Butcher however would be my favorite as he is a complex villain and daniel Day Lewis really plaed him well.

The Chairman (from Paprika)
Landa
The Puppeteer (from Ghost in the Shell, Solid State Society)

Dolores Umbridge from the Harry Potter films. I just re-watched the 5th movie and I have never wanted to stab a middle-aged woman so much in my life. Horrible creature

I can't agree with Palpatine as being one of the best. Yeah he ****ed **** up in Star Wars land but he's still a chode in my eyes...at least due to the prequels...which is the only version you can use in this thread since it's for the 2000's.

Besides Hans Landa Colonel Quaritch was a film villain of the last ten years that I really enjoyed watching.

1. Heath as The Joker
2. Ralph Fiennes as Voldemort
3. Ian McKellen as Magneto
4. The villains of The Lord of the Rings (I don’t really want LotR to take up 3 spots, and I can’t choose between Sauron, Saruman, and Gollum, so I’m cheating it.)
5. Bill Nighy as Davy Jones
6. Ian McDiarmid as Emperor Palpatine
7. Sergi Lopez as Capt. Vidal (Pan's Labyrinth)
8. Imelda Staunton as Dolores Umbridge (Harry Potter and The Order of the Phoenix)
9. Javier Bardem as Anton Chigurh
10. Johnny Depp as Sweeney Todd

This is a great list of villains . Although my list would include,
Tobin Bell as Jigsaw (Saw 1-3)

Forgot to mention Kagutaba from Noroi: The Curse and Eun-Joo from A Tale of Two Sisters. Should also mention Mr. Baek from Lady Vengeance, though of course Lee Geum-ja totally overshadows the film. And Lee Woo-jin from Oldboy.

Syndrome from The Incredibles.

A couple that have not been mentioned.
The Neighborhood Watch Alliance - Hot Fuzz
Rattlesnake Jake - Rango

My favorite has to go to Alonzo Harris from Training Day. I've never been happier when a villain bought it. Although, I will say Captain Vidal, Pan's Labrynth, and Col. Landa, Inglorious Basterds, are also played to perfection as pure, scum of the Earth.

Once again Best Villain of the 2000s: :hoboj:
Or is it just best performance of the 2000s?

Best villain of the 2000s is Voldemort.

Best performance is Heath as Joker IMO.

I think this guy is one of the best screen villans of the 2000s...definitely has the best haircut anyway...

"No...no...no...no....no! You need to go now...

Do you see any Teletubbies around here? Do you see a slender plastic tag clippd to my shirt with my name printed on it?
Do you see a little Asian child with a blank expression sitting outside in a mechanical helicopter that shakes when you put quarters in it? No? Well, that's what you see at a toy store, and you're in here shopping for an infant named Jeb. One of us has made a gross error, and wasted the other person's valuable time..."

Unbreakable made the top ten list of superhero films in Time magazine that was discussed in that thread the other month, and given the amount of discussion on it in there, I would still say it was underrated. I mean, there was one poster in particular, one who usually goes into discussions on these types of things in depth, and he did not put it on his top fifeteen(i think it was) list of sh films, i mean, he did not even mention the film at all, as was if he dare not even speak it's name.... I wonder why?
Maybe not used to seeing SamLJ in the super-villan role or something? :cwink:
