Mary Jane Watson - Miley Cyrus

I'd cast Aussie actor, Jason Smith in the role of Peter Parker/Spider-man.
http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1321788/ (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1321788/)
Any villain I would cast to be the A-list star, depending on the character he or she was playing.
If his acting was considered laughably bad for Power Rangers standards.. and it was by the fandom..
He definitely shouldnt NOT be mentioned in the same sentence as Spider-man. Plus, he's too old.
Man of Tomorrow

Isn't Dianna Agron a bit, I donno, bland?
I thought about Diana yesterday before she was mentioned, mainly because I was forced into watching "Glee"
The biggest problem with her is, she's turning 24 this year. I don't think she's a likely candidate if we're getting an MJ that looks 15 or so for the 2012 release.

Peter Parker - Joseph Levitt
Mary Jane - Mary Elizabeth Winstead
Gwen Stacy - Allison Lohman
Harry Osbourne - ??
Aunt May - I know she'd never do it but I think Meryl Streep would be good.

Last night my friend had mentioned Franco's little bro should probably be Harry. Other than that, no idea who would play him.

Who about Molly C. Quinn, who plays Nathan Fillion's daughter on Castle, as MJ?
http://img687.imageshack.us/img687/9235/20981635.jpg
I believe she starred opposite Logan Lerman in a movie recently.
And if(big if) Percy Jackson does well, Logan may be the guy to beat. Not a shoe-in, but major props.
Man of Tomorrow
01-12-2010, 01:00 PM
I think Logan is on the verge of becoming the next Yelchin and Shia; in order words, the kid that gets cast in everything.
Could be ideal for Spider-man to get him.
Carlo Comicus

Joseph Gordon Levitt for Peter Parker.
Zooey Deschanel or Evan Rachel Wood for Mj.
directed by Marc Forster.

I went ahead voted for Logan Lerman, he hasn't dissapointed me yet since the first time I've seen him in Road to Perdition. Michael Angarano would be my second choice.

Zac Efron will be Peter Parker you wait and see. :(
I honest to God would not be shocked if they cast one of the following:
-Zac Efron
-Shia LaBeouf
-Robert Pattinson
Chewy
01-12-2010, 01:44 PM
I honestly don't think Zac Efron would be that bad. Pair him up with the right director and he could turn out a decent performance
I'm not advocating it, simply saying it wouldn't be the end of the world

Can I ask why? These stupid casting rumors always pop up for every superhero movie, and EVERY time people fall for it like it's a possibility. Kutcher as Batman, Beyonce as WW, Timberlake as Lantern....honestly, it's NOT going to happen.

Well, if we're making a movie of the calibre that I would expect a proper Spider-man movie to be...
Peter Parker/Spider-man: David Kross (for obvious reasons).
Mary Jane Watson: AnnaLynne McCord (was great on Nip/Tuck).
Gwen Stacey: Jessica McNamee (a great, young Australian actress at the start of her career).
Adrien Toomes/The Vulture: John Malkovich.
Max Dillon/Electro: Ben Forster.
Mac Gargan/The Scorpion: Stephen Dorff.
Kraven The Hunter: Josh Brolin.
I like all this.
Peter Parker/Spider-Man: Logan Lerman
Gwen Stacy: Dianna Agron
Mary Jane Watson: Scout Taylor Compton (VERY iffy on this. VERY VERY iffy. She's very hard to cast for and I don't like the suggestion of Emma Stone, who looks like a rat terrier to me.)
Kraven the Hunter: Oded Fehr
That's all I can think of off the top of my head. I wasn't made to be a casting agent. Lol.
I like this except for Scout. I'm no hater of hers, but I just don't see her as MJ.
what do you guys think about James McAvoy?
Too old. Never understood his appeal.

Because I'm really paranoid and don't trust the studio to not hire a mainstream heart throb.

How about some others (for those searching out young actors)
Josh Hutcherson (currently 17, many credits, decent actor) - peter
Elisabeth Harnois (20) - Gwen
Molly C Quinn (16) - MJ
Also, don't care who they play just find a spot for them:
Alan Rickman
Nathon Fillion

FYI JGL and Chris Evans (FF, NATM, Cellular) are the same age...born 1981.
Since Marvel and Disney are together (FYI, I know this is still Sony)...
just cast the cast of Sonny with a Chance and go on your way
(...that's a JOKE by the way)

Gordon-Levitt is nearly 29. How is a 29 year old man supposed to believably play a 15-16 year teenager? You realize that 29 is close to twice as old as 15, right?
So, I am afraid to say it but you are wrong.
Obviously you never met 30 year old who is always carded when buying cigarettes.
I've met a few. Some adults look like teens. JGL is one of them.

Levitt can never pass for a 15 year old Peter, especially for a 2012 release.

Peter will probably be in high school for one movie then be an adult for the rest.

Justin Bieber for Peter Parker/Spider-Man...
Majik1387
01-12-2010, 04:51 PM
JGL is too old for the direction the reboot is taking. He looks too old to be in high school, even for just one movie. He also looks too old for early college, if the whole reasoning is high school first movie, college second movie.
He's too old. He would have been a better choice than Maguire in Raimi's, but that time has passed. Time to think of someone new.
Man of Tomorrow
01-12-2010, 04:53 PM
They're obviously going for Ultimate Spider-man as the inspiration for the reboot.
Teenage spidey in highschool dealing with contemporary problems and his superpowers, while going through teenage life.
This isn't gonna be some flashback to him as a highschool senior like in Raimi's Spider-man; we're actually getting Peter as a kid with his teen years fleshed out.

That's the kid from that cancelled show Aaron Stone.

Look at the castings for SM1, they all had prior movie experience.

Part I: The Kids
Aaron Johnson as Peter Parker/Spider-Man
His superhero experience in Kick-Ass can be put to good use as Spidey. He can be funny with and/or without the costume. Besides: If anything, at least he's far better than a Disney boy, right?
http://www.efavata.com/CBM/wp-content/uploads/2009/09/kick-ass-aaron-johnson.jpg
Emma Stone as Mary-Jane Watson
This is a fan-favorite to take Dunst's place as the red-hot redhead. And I agree.
http://the-frat-pack.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2009/08/emma-stone.jpg
Taylor Momsen as Gwen Stacy
Some fans want her for Gwen Stacy and I concur. She's may be Gossip Girl, but then again, Blake Lively is Carol Ferris. Plus, she looks like Gwen in this picture here.
http://www.stylehop.com/fashion-blog/wp-content/uploads/2009/08/taylor_momsen.jpg
Anton Yelchin as Harry Osborn
Some people want his for Spidey, but I think he'd be better suited as Peter's pal. If you've seen him in Charlie Bartlett, his personality obviously speaks Harry Osborn. Plus, he already met Iron Man!
http://fusedfilm.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/02/anton-yelchin.jpg
Nina Dobrev as Liz Allen
In case you don't remember she's Elena on the Vampire Diaries. I chose her because she's underrated, not Disney, and if you've seen SSM, Nina actually bears a resemblance to Liz.

I was just about to say that.
To me, Aaron Johnson is a very UNLIKELY choice, given how insanely similar his Kickass character is to a teen Peter Parker, observe:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_oy4IFvH2Tc
It's the equivalent of getting Drake Bell to play Spider-man after spoofing him in "Superhero Movie" .....it just won't happen
Will fanboys listen to logic on this one though? Of course not. I'm sure Aaron will continue to be suggested here despite his obvious unlikelihood.
Same with Joseph Gordon Levitt.

I like the idea of Stephen Lang as J.J. Inspired choice.
I'm not sure how you could replace JJ, JK Simmons pretty much owned the partThat will always be the best comic-book casting ever (to me).

Peter Parker/Spider-Man - Jesse Eisenberg or if older Levitt or Elijah Wood. Sorry folks, Anton Yelchin looks so damn geeky he'd be unbelievable as Spider-Man.
Mary Jane Watson- Mary Elizabeth Winstead
Harry Osborne- Emile Hirsch
Norman Osborne/Green Goblin- William Fichtner or Daniel-Day Lewis
Adrian Toomes/Vulture- Ben Kingsley or John Malkovich
Aunt May- Helen Mirren
Uncle Ben- James Garner or Ed Asner
Robbie Robinson- Ernie Hudson
J.Jonah James - J.K. MUST STAY! DO NOT RECAST HIM! But if you must... William H. Macy would be my guy.
Kraven the Hunter- Gerard Butler
Flash Thompson- Travis Van Winkle or Mark Salling
Gwen Stacy- Amber Heard or Emma Stone
Dr. Otto Octavius/ Doc Ock- Phillip Seymour Hoffman
Dr. Curt Connors/ The Lizard- Hugh Laurie
Wilson Fisk/Kingpin- James Gandolfini
Max Dillon/Electro- Matt Dillon
Cletus Kassidy/Carnage- Robert Knepper, Jackie Earle-Haley, or Jake Busey
Mysterio- Mark Strong (After seeing him as Lord Blackwood in "Sherlock Holmes" I thought his voice would be perfect either for Mysterio or as Dr. Doom in a "Fantastic Four" reboot.)
Will update with more ideas later....

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_oy4IFvH2Tc
It's the equivalent of getting Drake Bell to play Spider-man after spoofing him in "Superhero Movie" .....it just won't happen
Will fanboys listen to logic on this one though? Of course not. I'm sure Aaron will continue to be suggested here despite his obvious unlikelihood.
Same with Joseph Gordon Levitt.

Peter Parker/Spider-Man - Jesse Eisenberg or Cory Monteith from "GLEE." If older Levitt or Elijah Wood.
Mary Jane Watson- Mary Elizabeth Winstead
Harry Osborne- Emile Hirsch
Norman Osborne/Green Goblin- William Fichtner or Daniel-Day Lewis
Adrian Toomes/Vulture- Ben Kingsley or John Malkovich
Aunt May- Helen Mirren
Uncle Ben- James Garner or Ed Asner
Robbie Robinson- Ernie Hudson
J.Jonah James - J.K. MUST STAY! DO NOT RECAST HIM! But if you must... William H. Macy would be my guy. Someone suggested Stephen Lang but to me he's Cable.
Kraven the Hunter- Gerard Butler
Flash Thompson- Travis Van Winkle or Mark Salling from "GLEE."
Gwen Stacy- Amber Heard or Emma Stone
Dr. Otto Octavius/ Doc Ock- Phillip Seymour Hoffman
Dr. Curt Connors/ The Lizard- Hugh Laurie
Wilson Fisk/Kingpin- James Gandolfini
Cletus Kassidy/Carnage- Robert Knepper, Jackie Earle-Haley, or Jake Busey
Mysterio- Mark Strong (After seeing him as Lord Blackwood in "Sherlock Holmes" I thought his voice would be perfect either for Mysterio or as Dr. Doom in a "Fantastic Four" reboot.)
Alex O'Hirn/Rhino- It's left-field casting but Patrick Warburton has made a living playing muscular dimwits. 'Prison Break's' Wade Williams wouldn't be bad either.
Flint Marko/Sandman- Henry Rollins or Dominic Purcell
Electro- It depends on which version they'd go with but Wentworth Miller wouldn't be bad.
Venom- Ultimate or McFarlane version? That is the question.

I'm hoping we focus on Gwen in the reboot as opposed to MJ.
Winstead is a good choice for MJ, so maybe for a sequel to add a love triangle just like the comics did it, but I'd prefer we focus on Gwen Stacy as THE girl this time. MJ got her time in the sun, so let's do some variety, since I expect Ock and GG to repeat in this series, we need to make it fresh somehow.

This franchise is being rebooted to put Peter back in high school...and most of the casting choices for Peter and MJ have been actors who are on the wrong side of 25...the franchise is likely to stay in high school for a movie or two, so apparently half this board wants to see people in their 30's in high school, which is a tad weird.

Not necessarily true. Someone whom looks young, and is around 23-25 can still get cast as a high school student and it can work. You just have to look young.
Plus, people are assuming he'll be in high school more than 1 film. Who is to say that in the sequel he isn't starting college? That would make casting a person 23-25 passable to do.

I was strictly averse to Zac Efron being considered as Peter Parker/Spider-Man. However, I have seen a number of people who say that he was good in Me & Orson Welles and can indeed act well. My top choice for the webbed wonder is Anton Yelchin. I'm not keen that he's already cross-pollinated two big film franchises (Star Trek and Terminator) and 'star saturation' is not a good thing. Despite it all he would really play a convincing Spider-Man. He can easily get a personal trainer to sort out his physique.

Except for Anton Yelchin I don't know any of those teen actors on that list.
But does Sony want an unknown because kid actors in their late teens/early 20's are hard to come by or unless they pick someone in their mid-20's with a few acting credits under their belt.

I think Mary Elizabeth Winstead, a suggestion that has been around since the very first Spider-Man film, would still be a great choice for MJ.
Honestly, Christoph Waltz would be great in any role. Think about it. I always thought he would be an amazing young Magneto. But now with the Spider-Man reboot, I think he'd be great for Norman Osborn. But I would be kind of disappointed if they went with Green Goblin again as the villain, but they could still establish the character's existence, and he'd be perfect. Mark Strong is another great candidate for Norman/Green Goblin, imo.
Call me crazy, but I think Patricia Clarkson would make a great Aunt May. Provided they'd have to age her a bit, but it shouldn't be too hard or anything. A wig and some make-up. I think she has a great face for the character, and she's a terrific actress.
Philip Baker Hall or John Getz are a couple of choices I have for Uncle Ben. Someone that looks like they could be very fatherly and has a certain warmth about them. These two actors were just two of several choices I have, but from what I've seen them in, they do have that presence about them that would fit the character.
J. Jonah Jameson is kind of hard. I really love the suggestion above of Stephen Lang. haha, how about R. Lee Ermey? John C. McGinley?
Doc Ock is another difficult one, since I thought Alfred Molina was perfect. Would John Carol Lynch be absurd? I can definitely picture him playing the character.
I think Andrew Garfield would make for a great Harry Osborn.
Now, for Peter Parker/Spider-Man. The most difficult role to cast, pretty much. I actually like that Reece Thompson plug that someone made above. He has the look, and I liked what I've seen of him. I'm also privy to Aaron Johnson and Patrick Fugit. It's definitely easier to pick actors who can play nerdy, but it's hardy to pick ones who can play both nerdy and a superhero. For example, I could say Jesse Eisenberg would make for a decent Peter Parker, but I just couldn't buy him as Spider-Man. That's the problem I have with the Michael Cera suggestions. Sure, he could probably pull off a great Peter Parker, but what about a great Spider-Man as well? Honestly, I would just opt for an unknown myself. Or someone that isn't really an established actor that everyone knows of.

for anyone who doesn't know what I'm talking about in regards to looking like peter, check out the percy jackson trailer and then check out ultimate spider-man run (benis/bagley). pees in a pod. I would definately be happy with this. in fact I almost hope percy jackson tanks so sony can buy him out of his contract on the cheap.
as for stan lee, anyone that can take marvel to court (the company you help found) isn't all sweetness and light.
stan's JJJ are absolutely classic
peter -'I didn't have time to develope the film'
JJJ - 'no problem, I'll just deduct it from your final pay'
no one understands JJJ like stan 'the man' lee and with all his cameos its time to give him a PROPER role.

Sounds like someone's never had an enema or known what one looks like after getting one.
Looks like..I would have to agree with you. The actor in question does look to be in considerable pain given when one has an enema it "often resulting in very uncomfortable bloating, cramping, powerful peristalsis (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peristalsis), a feeling of extreme urgency and complete evacuation of the lower intestinal tract." He could be an extremely good actor on the other hand.
Is that what you look like after...nevermind, I dont want you to answer that.
I take it you had a different expression? I think I'd have keeled over but I hope I won't find out.
C'mon guys it was a humourous comment. It's nice to have a laugh when so often threads can dissolve into petty one-upmanships.
I do not think the actor would be good as Peter Parker because he looks too young and perhaps there's an issue to do with his physique. What roles has he played so far? I'm far more keen on Anton Yelchin as no other actor at this moment springs to mind. The other issue is not simply the casting of Peter Parker but of Mary Jane-Watson. The chemistry betwee the two will be key and only a screentest (to which none of us will be privy) will really tell us if they will cast the right actors.

Cera yes I agree. I'm tired of the same ol' shtick from him. Same with Shia, but Jesse Eisenberg could play a good Peter Parker/Spider-Man, but I don't see Aaron "Kick-Ass" Johnson going from playing Kick-Ass to playing Spider-Man---essentially Kick-Ass is a foulmouthed Peter Parker. Nothing new for him to do. And if Logan is playing Percy Jackson he's pretty much contractually obligated to fill that role until all the books are made or done or unless the first movie makes zilch for money.

I'd rather the movies start Peter at 16. Driving, prom, girls, popularity, those memorable times. I mean wasn't SM1 with Pete as a senior in high school? I would say 2 movies of high school and the third be freshman year of college.

I love the idea of Jesse Eisenburg as Spider-man. He's just geeky and awkward enough to be Peter Parker.
Emile Hirsch would be ideal as Harry Osborn, and giving him 2-3 movies to expand that character and his resentment towards Parker would be fun to watch. Might be getting a little too old to pull off a teen, but he kind of has a baby face.
Jason Isaacs is my Norman Osborn. Awesome actor, could do a lot with the role.
Christoph Waltz or Mark Strong would make an excellent Doc Ock, but I think they might be over played in the villain role right now. (Waltz in Basterds and The Green Hornet and Strong in Sherlock Holmes and Kick-Ass)
I think Dakota Fanning would be a good Gwen Stacy, it was pretty much over the years and has the right age for the character.

That's a good suggestion Kal-El. He did rather good in the Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles series and can no doubt act quite well. Given he's played a character that has the weight of expectation on his shoulders. He could understand and convey the pathos of a character that has great power and great responsibility. Remember whoever the actor will be will need to carry Spider-Man presumably over at least three films. Where added complexity and depth will be woven into the very fabric of the character. It's all and well displaying images of actors we think physically resemble a character. The question remains do they have the acting nous to portray the character as adroitely as possible? One last point. I's advantageous to consider an actor who's already been exposed to real stardom and publicity. As the franchise will no doubt attract huge interest from both the public and media. We'll need a man who can carry such a burden with ease. Which is one reason why I picked Anton Yelchin.

Unfortunately you may be right since it's all about maximising demographics and swelling the target audience for studios such as Sony. However, despite his High School Musical fame I have heard good things about Zac Efron's role in Me & Orson Welles. So if he can at least act well then there is hope. Furthermore, as a 'good looking' actor, it would be far more challenging for him to play a 'nerd' in high school who is not attractive to nor successful with the ladies to play such a role. If he can indeed execute such a character then the film will work. I think it would be cynical of anyone to dismiss Zac Efron out of hand if he does put in good performances such as his last one. It is difficult to progress from adolescent material to something more mature. In that regards I empathise with him since he has a reputation. Much like Robert Pattinson. We'll see. Cautious optimism.

I admit it's a high-risk strategy to use someone such as Zac Efron. However, from an acting perspective. It would be fascinating to see him convincingly play a character such as Peter Parker. A character who is poles apart from his perceived status as a 'heart throb'. I understand the allure of using an unknown actor since they will not have a reputation or 'baggage' as you say. The caveat from such an approach is the actor will not have been sufficiently tested. I know each actor has their break-through role but to trust a lucrative and highly-successful franchise such as Spider-Man to a relative newcomer may be too much. I know that an unknown actor such as Chris Pine successfully took on an iconic role as James T. Kirk. So there are positive examples although for now. I would prefer to choose an actor who has at least shown glimpses of what we all would like to see in the next incarnation of Peter Parker/Spider-Man.

The other thing is Sony really doesn't need a big name like Efron, Shia etc as Spidey to sell this thing.
The Spider-man franchaise has already proved itself to be a money maker, there's NO doubt. I'm pretty sure that's why Sony is so confident in this reboot idea, it's bound to sell regardless of Sam Raimi.
There's no desperation for a big name.
WB needed a big name like Reynolds as GL because there IS doubt about Green Lantern, but Spider-man is box office gold...

Heres a few teen/adult issues I would like to see.
1) The movie begins a few weeks after Uncle Ben's death, and Peter is just returning to School. He begins skipping classes (To become Spider-Man,who he already is before the start) and the teachers become concerned. He keeps avoiding meetings with the counsellor.
2) Aunt May is struggling with bills and worrying about her nephew as Welfare Officers get involved.
3) Peter decides to do as much help as he can for Aunt May and becomes a freelance photographer at the Daily Bugle and is took under the wing of the kind Robbie Robertson, while taking abuse from the mean editor. Even though Peter does not like JJ,who has been printing negative stories about Spidey, but its easy money for Aunt May.
4) The High-School prom is coming up and Harry Osborn's girlfriend Liz sets him up with her friend,Gwen Stacy. But Peter is shocked to discover her father is Captain George Stacy, the Officer who has been hunting Spidey since he started.
5) While Harry,is hiding a dark secret.

I'll say it again. I think Corey Monteith (Finn) from "Glee" could play a good Peter Parker/Spider-Man.

He's great on Glee, but is way too old. And possibly too tall.

Interesting ideas, but I don't see what they have to do with casting.

These two pictures are much better and at least he doesn't look constipated with that stupid grin. Having shown my appreciation for them he does strike me as having the same presence as Zac Efron. So if we were looking for a 'template' then in my opinion he would fit.
The other thing is Sony really doesn't need a big name like Efron, Shia etc as Spidey to sell this thing.

The basis for which I suggested Zac Efron has nothing to do with marketing but to do with experience. He has been involved in a widely 'successful' production such as the High School Musical series. So he's used to the glare of the media and public. By what I've read he was good in Me & Orson Welles. Which should not horrify nor dismay those of us who doubt his acting potential. Now I have a preference for Anton Yelchin as I already stated. Here's an image:

There's another possibility in Patrick Fugit:

He may be too old and at 27 years of age; where principal photography will begin next year, he'll be 28/29. So most likely a no but an intriguing one nonetheless.
Aaron Johnson maybe?

Macguire definitely wasn't an Efron type.
I seriously doubt Sony would sink to that low.
They already know the pitfalls of bad casting with the Dunst situation.
when dunst was first cast she was hot and looked like MJ

I was going to watch percy jackson anyway but I will check it out to see if logan lerman has got acting skills.
when the casting call goes out almost certainly his agent will put him forwards as he ticks a lot of boxes.

SECRET IDENTITY: Five Actors To Replace Tobey Maguire In 'Spider-Man' (http://splashpage.mtv.com/2010/01/12/secret-identity-five-actors-to-replace-tobey-maguire-in-spider-man/)
The only one I would consider out of that list is michael welch. I loved patrick fugit in almost famous but he's too old.

I'm convinced LOGAN LERMAN FOR PETER PARKER!!!! OR MICHAEL ANGARANO!!!!
I think Dakota Fanning would be a good Gwen Stacy, it was pretty much over the years and has the right age for the character.

And Christoph Waltz would be perfect as Norman Osborn.
Wow. When did she stop looking like an alien?

Jesus, how many times do I have to hear Waltz as the goddamned badguy?
Waltz for the purse snatcher!
Who's that Logan kid? He has a nice Peter look to him. If he can act, then I wouldn't mind it. And I would like to introduce Gwen first. Then MJ in film 2 or something.

But I sort of think they should cast relatively unknown actors for the roles. You don't need to cast big names. It's ****ing Spider-Man for God sakes. People will see this movie still.
Waltz for Peter Parker.
Better?
