eh....dark and gritty...with a bunch of little kids........Spider-Boy......this movie is gonna end up more for kids...along the lines of Harry Potter and Those lion and the wardrobe movies and Narnia and Twilight and all that kids stuff.....which im sure is the audience the studios are looking to cash in on...

I understand the character is supposed to be in high school, but with Tobey, i never felt like he was really a high school kid which imo is better. Everyone was mature and made you look past their supposed age-made me ignore the high school part of it. These kids being shown are literally fresh out of high school or still in or they still look like they could pass for freshman. I just can't picture myself getting into a movie with a kid with no hair on his nads or ass fighting villains. It just seems like a Disney movie to me.

plz no more high school origins...just do flashbacks ala batman begins. =(

..hell even in most comics i saw, spidey looked like a young man around 21+ y.o.

But I sort of think they should cast relatively unknown actors for the roles. You don't need to cast big names. It's ****ing Spider-Man for God sakes. People will see this movie still.

who know logan larman? I only know about him because I've been following percy jackson

But that's part of the appeal for me. The fact that he is a kid who puts his life on the line to protect others, without asking for anything in return. I imagine any 15-year-old who obtains superpowers would just end up abusing them. The sacrifices he makes, at that young of an age, make for a compelling character.

I think Dakota Fanning would be a good Gwen Stacy, it was pretty much over the years and has the right age for the character.
http://desinformacoes.files.wordpress.com/2009/08/dakota-fanning1.jpg

Pretty much any young, cute blonde actress will work as Gwen if you stick a headband on her, but Dakota's a talented actress as well. She will be 16-17 years old during the filming of the Spidey reboot, so she's just the right age. A good choice.

The middle has my vote.

The other two look like dorks/Jimmy Olsen types.

Pete is awkward as a teen of course, but he believably needs to be played by someone who'd look like a younger version of the adult form we're all familiar with

You need the right balance of teenage awkwardness and comicbook superhero looks.

Logan Lerman reminds me of Peter and...me and Peter Parker reminds me of...me. Golden combination.

Dude's goofy looking. In a bad way.

Goofy lookin'? What the heck does that mean? Yeah, he's not GAH-rgeous, and he's not cut like Taylor Lautner, He looks like a normal young man his age. Possibly even younger than he actually is. Since when is normal goofy?

I think he looks perfect for the part, isn't Spiderman supposed to be about the nerd, the outcast, the unpopular? Why not for once have somebody that actually LOOKS the part instead of having somebody like Tom Welling and everybody just take it for granted that somebody that drop dead pretty could somehow manage to NOT be popular in High School. :)

I should say at this point that while I think he looks the part and is a great actor, he's not in anyway perfect for the part. I have my own issues with this casting choice. But looks are definitely not part of it.

If it gets good reviews, especially his performance, then he may stay in consideration.

Spidey isn't going before the camera until late 2010 for a 2012 release. Percy Jackson shot for like three months. We'll know by the end of Feb. if it's successful and could be in front of the cameras by July or Aug for a sequel.

He starred in Dragonball: Evolution for gosh sake. I'm sure he'd take the role if they offered it to him.

I do wonder if we'll have Brant in this film, they could easily go for Glory Grant at the Bugle to change it up slightly. In that case, I nominate Jada Pinkett Smith or a younger Jada for Glory.

great choices except;
robbie - roger cross
uncle ben ???
flash - ??? (should be a red head though)
conners - nathan fillion
harry - ???
MJ - she doesn't look hot enough to me. sony need to cast a 16 year old megan fox

everyone else is a fantastic choice

I really like the idea of Fillion as Connors, kudos

Does anybody know if they would do open auditions for this thing? I mean, I'm still only in college as an actor, but man what I would give to be able to audition for this thing. Of course, I probably wouldn't have the $$ to get out to New York or LA where the auditions would most likely be held.

yessir! I've been wanting to break out for a long time, I've also been taking Drama for a while, and I love re-creating movie scenes, mostly as evidenced by my facebook. Exactly. Personally I think Spidey would work best as a high budget television series, (live action) one which takes big influences from SSM.

But that's cool man. I'm in college at the moment, just trying to learn and improve and all that fun stuff. I'd love a chance to audition for something big, but I don't really live in an area where they do a lot of casting for big shows (Michigan). Unfortunately Michigan has become a great area to do shoots, but not so much for casting.

Playing Spider-man has always been a dream. Though to be honest, I have more of a Wolverine build. I'm 5'8 and 175 (and that's me at my leanest right now. A year ago I was 190) I'm not fat, which you would think from my stats, but I've just always been big into weight-lifting and training, so I'm kinda bulky. I'm not bad now, but I still look a little thick for Spidey. I suppose I wouldn't be a bad McFarlane Spidey though lol.

but it's the same here. I'm not a huge-muscular guy, but you can totally tell that I like to workout sometimes. and I wouldn't say I'm fat, I'm about 165 right now and like, 6'1, but I am a tad chunky. Since the cast is skewing much younger for the reboot, I'd say that Gary Sinise, at age 55, is too old to play Curt Connors. Since Connors is supposed to have a son that is 10 years old or younger, he should be in his 30s, not his 50s.

So here's another pic of 38 year-old Nathan Fillion:

Wait until the third or fourth film for Venom, but in the meantime, I'd really like to see Michael C. Hall milling around the Daily Bugle as Eddie Brock. It gives the new Parker some time to grow up before things go completely awry, and they could introduce an element of Brock's rivalry with Peter growing out of the young hotshot coming in and laying his seniority to waste. That's contemporary enough. If not, I could see him pulling off a brilliant Norman Osbourne.

Peter Parker is like the ugly duckling. He starts out as a social outcast and totally geeky nerd. But once he gets bitten by the Spider, he starts to grow confidant. He isn't clumsy anymore and loses his glasses, since he doesn't need them anymore. And due to his new found confidance, even the girls seem to notice him a little more.

And honestly, even if he isn't a super model, he's been drawn as quite the handsome young man in the comics for many, many years.

exactly. he shouldn't be a 'hottie' but he should definately be good looking I think there is a difference between the two.

the person who should be a hottie is MJ she is supposed to be drop dead gorgeous, a head turner, someone who can bring the room to stand still (she even grows up to be a supermodel) and whilst I actually think dunst is a good actress, looks wise she didnt fit the part at all. to be fair she was 'kinda hot when she first landed the gig', bright red hair, full figure, round bust

As for Peter, and maybe this is downright flamebait to some of you, but I'd like to see Michael Cera in the role. Sure, he'll be twenty three in 2012, but he's twenty one now and still makes a (in my opinion) convincing sixteen year old in Youth in Revolt. If not, make Peter a junior. How much time can they really spend in high school? He's the awkward nerd, he can deliver a joke, and it would finally give him a chance to let loose. (Which YiR's Francois Dillinger tells you he wants to and can in fact do.) Not to mention how familiar he is to young adults these days. Even if his name isn't household, 'That guy from Superbad's' face and performances are.

That's why I've begun to tout an actor such as Zac Efron. Because from an acitng point of view, it shows great range if an actual 'hearthrob' can convincingly play an awkard and 'nerdy' teenager. I find the dichotomy fascinating and clearly with complexity and depth of the Spider-Man progressively will become deeper; we will need an actor who has sufficient range in order to convincingly convey the pathos of what he experiences.

Hehe now now :cwink:

I agree that she is a good actress but perhaps her depiction of Mary Jane-Watson for want of a better word was a little "orff" as we should say in the UK (but don't).

This has made me think about her character. Should Peter Parker meet her indirectly at the conclusion of the first film. Perhaps just as Mary Jane-Watson is becoming successful he sees her face on a billboard? Then end it where Peter Parker is sitting down in a packed theatre and is in awe at seeing her. Then leave it there....

I anticipate some angst.

SM1 - 2001 cast date

ASM - peter married to mj - no gwen in sight
USM - peter dating mj - no gwen in sight
90's cartoon - peter chasing mj - no gwen in sight

seriously, is it any WONDER he went with mj? if the GA had gone to the comic shps looking for the blond girlfriend of peter in SM1 they would have gone, 'the **** is this red head spider-man is married to?'

sam's mistake was having gwen at all, that ship had well and truly sailed.

If Percy Jackson and the Olympians comes out and he kicks all kinds of ass then I'll definitely reconsider, but right now based on his portfolio I really don't see what he has done in the past so well as to prove he can do this role justice. Unfortunately I think Joseph Gordon-Levitt is too old to play a high school era Spider-Man. Although since you mentioned Batman here, I think he has the voice and look perfect to continue from Heath Ledger's Joker. An irony considering they both starred together in 10 Things I hate About You.

Going back to the Spider-Man casting question. I think it'll be the wrong approach if they go down the Tobey Maguire route; cast someone in their late 20's who looks young enough to be in high school. Clearly the next Spider-Man actor has to be much closer to the actual age range which he'll be playing. Since I suspect they'll want him to age and mature over four films at least. I say an actor between the 19-21 year age range. Anton Yelchin is 20 years old!

NinjaTurtleFan

I'm starting to jump on the Anton Yelchin bus. Him as Pete and Emile Hirsch as Harry would make a good team and they've starred in "Alpha Dog" before.

But just throwing this name out there, although I'm sure I'll get a, "He's too old!"

If this script is dark and gritty like the Nolan stuff, I strongly doubt we'll get a ridiculous nerdy Peter like Tobey played it.

We may just get a shy and reserved teen prior to the Spider-byte. Definitely not comic relief.

Or if anything, the movie may kick off with Peter already as Spider-Man, like how spectacular Spider-man started. Non-linear like Batman Begins.

I think you're wrong, I get the feeling they will cast the net far and wide, you're talking about the lead role in a franchise expected to span 10 years, no point in rushing it or not seeing as many candidates as possible.

Man of Tomorrow

There is a point in rushing it. They have a strict timeline to meet.

I wouldn't be surprised if we get some casting names under consideration a couple months from now.

Not to mention look at how Sony's previous Spider-Man films were cast...

Tobey, Kristen, James Franco, Willem Dafoe etc

How many of the leads were random candidates from the streets?

Even Tobey had "The Cider House Rules" and "Plesantville" and more..

You've got me sold. Now that I've seen the kid I think he would make a good Spider-Man. He deserves a shot at auditioning. To me the sort of mould for which I'm looking is Zac Efron/Anton Yelchin/Logan Lerman. He pulls it off with the ladies in the film despite being much younger. I was impressed with how effortless he handled the chemistry with Jessica Alba. Usually she doesn't titillate me in the acting stakes but their almost 'Mrs. Robinson' dynamic was interesting to watch. Especially as you can guage his body language. He doesn't strike one as being timid and I think he'd be one of these fearless actors. Willing to try things and make it work. He'll look a little older by the time they cast Spider-Man, if he gets the part. He'll obviously need to bulk up his physique but that'll be easy with a personal trainer, dietician and nutritionist. They can also use CGI for added physical tone.

He doesn't have to go to extremes but a change in physique would help. At least added tone but some additional muscle mass would make a more convincing Spider-Man. Since he'll be wearing the suit of course we'll be able to see his physique. Furthermore, we know the 'money' shot will happen. It's simply to convey the change to his body since he'll end up performing extraordinary feats of strength.

Have you ever read the comics? He has never had a hard time getting the girl after getting bite. MJ, Gwen, even Liz Allen was all over Peter afterwards. It would drive Flash crazy. Given they'd have to tone down the pretty boy look. But the way Peter is drawn, he is kind of a pretty boy.
