Today I got an advertising email from "Emerald Loop" (216 N. Wabash; downtown Chicago) saying that they'll be more Transformers shooting outside their place this weekend. This is the Jewelers Building, the place that has those set photos of Shia and Dempsey on top of one of those 4 towers crumbled in the street:

Ehm no. Not really. The entire thing was 3d. Every VFX shot was done in stereo. Every live action shot was captured with 3d cameras and the green screen footage was also rendered in stereo.


Going back to TF3. As far as i know there weren't any reports that they said that they were using a combination of 2d and 3d cameras. We all know about Bay's rant against 3d only to have him make TF3 in 3d this time around. His complaint cameras didn't fit his style of shooting was also part of is rant yet Vince Pace ( the guy who has developed the stereo cameras used on Avatar , Tron Legacy , POTC 4 etc) is constantly updating the cameras to fit the directors needs.

Maybe it really is a case of what Dr lee is saying. That where they just can't use the 3d cameras , they'll shoot the scenes in 2d and then convert it to 3d.

Well, yesterday the train I was on went pass the set again while they were shooting and low and behold Optimus Prime drives pass trailer and all. If only I had a camera to shoot it.

Ok, went out to lunch today then afterwards, me and the GF went walking around a bit. I'd heard about the empty lot that was used during "The Dark Knight" again being used for "Transformers 3" (on Franklin St., between Court and Washington). Sure enough, there's wrecked cars, garbage cans, bus stops, a bunch of boxes full of debris and big rubble set pieces, including one of the the Jeweler Buildings tower/domes that Shia and Dempsey were on last week (and probably will be again this weekend).

In picture 3 you can see how the tower/dome piece is actually constructed on a trailer for easy transport. And in picture 5 & 6 you can see a guy creating some more building rubble. While in the last picture a crane lift is moving a set piece:

Finally, as we passed behind the barracades and P.A.s guarding the set, I noticed black explosive debris was all over the ground. There was a little plastic piece close to me but not close enough to reach through the barricade so I asked the Security guy if I could have it as a souvenir. He smiled but shook his head "no" so then I asked if he could accidentally kick it to me. He laughed, still saying "no" but then tossed me this from his pocket:

Thanks, cool. Yeah, I'd been out of town the 1st couple weeks of shooting and hadn't seen every morsel of pics and news so I wasn't sure if this had been common knowledge for as long as it has. :word:

Also, I heard they're going to be shooting at the Old Post Office on Van Buran this Monday-Wednesday; 7am-10pm (the place that doubled as Gotham Police Dept and the Bank Heist in "The Dark Knight") where pyrotechnics are said to be present. Perhaps I may wander over there at some point in life.

I'm hoping the fire truck turns out to be Inferno. He was one of my favorite G1 Autobots. Of course I still have to worry about the Bayformers mentality of making classic G1 characters look virtually unrecognizable. So far the only transfomers that looked similar to their G1 robot modes are Optimus, Jazz, ravage, and Brawl(Who was called Devastator? WTH?).

Megatron looked like a Go-bot rocklord in the original film.

In the sequel Megatron had something that resembled a robotic ding-A-ling.

Frenzy looked like one of the cyborgs in Virus.

Starscream looked like a cross between Ed-209 and a robotic chicken.

Devastator looked like the robotic version of Grape Ape with apish looking
balls.

Bonecrusher looked like the Garthim in The Dark Crystal.

Skorpnok didn't even have a robotic mode. Did he have a personality or was he remote controlled by other decepticons?


Then there's the mischaracterizations of multiple transformer personalities:

Ironhide: Never spoke with an english accent nor did he ever tell jokes in the G1 cartoon.

Bumblebee: Taking one of the most talkative and wise cracking G1 transformers and turning him into a mute who communicates with a radio for two films has to be one of the greatest storyboard ideas ever conceived in the history of cinema.

Optimus: He was way too brutal in the sequel. Optimus frequently kicked decepticons butt in the cartoon but, he also showed a diplomatic and even a merciful side towards his enemies. We saw very little of that in the first film and none in the second. It's not in Prime's character to say "any last words" or "give me your face" to a dieing decepticon.

That's the reason Sam's sidekick is bumblebee. That's the reason Optimus quotes are lifted directly from G1.

So what does that mean? Everything in the movie won't be exactly like G1 but many fans will want as much G1 influence as possible because G1 put Transformers on the map and is the most popular.

Hasbro doesn't own the rights to 'Hot Rod'. They didn't own the names 'Jazz' or 'Ratchet' either. That's why the names of the toys were 'Autobot Jazz' and 'Autobot Ratchet'. I guess that applies to Hot Rod too. If they want to use him in the movie, they'd just have to name the toy 'Autobot Hot Rod'. I hope that's the case, as I really want him in the movie. He's too big a character not to be.

I'm sure someone will correct if I'm wrong, but I think that Hasbro has to give the go ahead for what names they can use in the movies.

They just kept shooting scenes right at the front gate, shifting the camera and lights around, sometimes using some flashing red and blue lights for the scene. my only reason for thinking it could be Grimlock is that the fans have been screaming for the Dinobots since before the first movie... and Nelson's comments about the fans fainting when they hear the name....

Personally, I feel the same way, and I don't think I would have that big of a problem with it. Ultra Magnus being a firetruck isn't that outlandish of an idea so I think that could cause a huge uproar.

But then again, there's the rumor floating around TFW that it's Rodimus Prime and he'll be Optimus' father. Taking it with a gigantic grain of salt, but I'd have to join the uproar if that's the case.

The allspark is all powerful...it is the giver of life. Frenzy's body was gone, his head was all that remained so him going from a boom box to his head becoming a cell phone is not all that crazy. The only way I will accept Wheelie becoming a bigger car is if his mind is put in another car. He can't physically go from an rc toy to a full blown passenger car and if that were to happen...I would say it was a plot hole.

I could understand if the Datsun had the exact same license plate but it doesn't so I don't think it is Bumblebee. Does Bumblebee have a younger brother or perhaps an evil counterpart??? I don't know enough about Transformers lore.

I heard that all these things were true, that Wheelie IS the Einstein-looking bot/Blue Mercedes. He's just more detailed and bigger now that he's got more room for a more defined head. Again, that's rumor, not fact. Just throwing out what I've heard. Could be COMPLETELY false.


As for the Frenzy/Cell Phone thing, chaseter, I disagree. There's some SERIOUS size differential from Frenzy's Head w/ mechanical legs to a tiny cell phone. Check out this effects video at the 1:13 mark and tell me it's not a major size change. (Hell, look how big that drink machine gets comparatively at the end):

Now, take that into consideration when comparing the car sizes:
- 1968-73 Datsun 510 (roughly 13.6 ft long x 5.11 ft wide x 5.5 ft high)
- 2011 Chevy Camaro (roughly 15.8 ft long x 6.3 ft wide x 4.5 ft high)

This ends up being a 2.2 ft x 0.4 ft x 1 ft difference in size. Not that big a jump in thinking if transmorphing is the norm for these movies. That cell phone was WAY smaller than Frenzy's head. So, why not a car a bit smaller than another?

As for the different plates, that's the easiest part to change, don't you think? Bumblebee morphed from a crappy old Camaro to a newer version in the 1st movie. Who says he didn't change plates when he morphed into the Datsun he scanned?

Again, I haven't any proof of anything and if it ends up not being Bumblebee I'll say "Oh Well" and move on. I'm just looking at all of the clues given and making a logical assumption for s***s and giggles. :word:

Went out to LaSalle Bridge to see what was filming today and there wasn't much action ... except for Shia. ;)

Walked down LaSalle (from the North) where it's blocked off at Kinsie, then walked around to the other side of the river (South) to get some shots along Wacker. Basically, they were filming soldiers walking back and forth on the bridge filled with rubble and debris. Shia and Rosie were out there, too:

Now, in the "street closure notice" released by the city it mentioned something about Mid-Level Wacker being used between Michigan and Lakeshore Drive and closures would be from 4am to 12pm. I figured I'd head over there to see if they were setting up or something. First of all, it was not Mid-Level but Lower Wacker. And what I found was what looked like boxes and tents set up to look like a huge homeless area with wrecked cars scattered throughout. Also, there were these huge rows of lights with filters in front of them. Maybe this was going to help simulate daytime, who knows:

There were Security Guards in the area but I decided that I could probably get close enough to touch the trailer (I know, I'm goofy) so I headed towards it. Just then, I see people by Ratchet getting their pictures taken with it. Well, I said "Screw It" and bolted for Optimus Prime:

I never did go out to Lower Wacker this morning to see what they filmed between 4am and 12pm. But I did head back later today to see if the Autobots were still there (which they were).

And what I noticed was this big old-looking tanker truck that looked a little too grimy if you ask me. Almost like it was purposely gritty with it's rusty outer body, torn tarp draped over the tanks, typical Bull Horns on the front and Skull hanging off the back. Could this be an "older" Autobot? I mean, it could totally be a legit gas truck or water truck or whatever since I wasn't here earlier to see how it was used. It just seemed a little too imperfect so I took pics:

one quick interesting thing to point out in your pics CT.... the fire truck is not a Prime re-scan, which is one of the theories i'd heard for who the FT was...

one quick interesting thing to point out in your pics CT.... the fire truck is not a Prime re-scan, which is one of the theories i'd heard for who the FT was...

Yeah, I figured once I saw the two hanging out together down there, that the whole "Prime will be both" theory was bogus.

And what I noticed was this big old-looking tanker truck that looked a little too grimy if you ask me. Almost like it was purposely gritty with it's rusty outer body, torn tarp draped over the tanks, typical Bull Horns on the front and Skull hanging off the back. Could this be an "older" Autobot? I mean, it could totally be a legit gas truck or water truck or whatever since I wasn't here earlier to see how it was used. It just seemed a little too imperfect so I took pics:

I never did get a good front view shot of this old truck. But I found this at another site and either this is a new crazy-looking Transformer or the humans use it for mayhem of their own. Regardless, the front of this truck was MADE for destruction:

Something like that. Dinobots wasnt in the second movie because the writers didnt like the idea of a robot dinosaur. Now with those two writers gone, I would expect at least Grimlock to make an appearance

Arcee was actually said to be a motorbike in the first film, so we knew she would be in the second. But Grimlock hasn't even been rumored to be in the film, and there's no evidence suggesting he will be. Arcee was already slated as a motorbike.

That old truck has peeked my curiosity, there is a chance that "that" could be Grimlock. If only we could see a insignia on it, it could almost pass for Onslaught from the Combaticons.

Technically, that's not true.

Grimlock has been a tank, steam shovel, raptor, mustang, etc.

Anyways, the reason the black/red firetruck remains a possibility is because Nelson says he hopes the name of that bot stays hidden until the release date, as it'll cause as much fan uproar as flames on Optimus did back in the day.

It's possible that there's some fervent Ultra Magnus fans that will react that way, but Grimlock does seem to be the only other character that fits that.

Keep in mind, the firetruck will be bigger than Optimus, which would fit Grimlock as well.

I'm hoping we get the Combaticons/Bruticus in this. I'm kinda optimistic about their chances since that armored fuel truck would fit Onslaught pretty good, as would that armored bank truck for Swindle. Just reuse Blackout/Grindor's CGI model for Vortex, Brawl's for the tank though they'd have to change his name for obvious reasons, and change Blast-Off into a jet fighter.

I found it hilarious how most of the Decepticons sounded dumb as dirt, except for the main ones.

The only decepticons that audiences remember are probably Megatron, Fallen, and the Devastator.

The third movie will introduce... Shockwave, Soundwave (to a certain extent, we see him standing beside Shockwave), and hopefully a easier to recognise Starscream!
