Also, the film isn't poorly marketed since it isn't even close to it's release date.

Aesop Rocks

The release date is June. Something, anything, would be out by now.

JP
01-04-2011, 12:11 AM
Would, not should.

We're complaining because we're curious fans desperate for news.. but the fact that they haven't put anything out yet is really not that big of a deal.

Now, if it was mid-May and there were no posters anywhere and no tv-spots playing, then you can complain about marketing.

Ok so I haven't been paying very close attention to news involving this movie but is it true that there's gonna be no Cyclops in this movie??

Crockett
01-04-2011, 03:27 AM
Yep since it's going to be in the year 1960 and Charles and Erik are going to be in their mid 20's to 30's, they change so that Cyclops brother Alex Summer aka Havok is going to be in the movie too.

They can do an online thing .. which is quick and simple .. I really want a name trailer reminiscent of X1 and X2 .. "Xavier, Beast, Havok, Angel, Banshee, Mystique, Magneto, Emma Frost, Sebastian Shaw, Azazel, Riptide" Although FC is not Singer's film, maybe Vaughan will continue the tradition. Would be sweet.

They used the name trailer in the first two x-mens because the names were big time names(Wolverine,Cyclops,Jean Grey,Storm,Magneto etc)

The only marque mutants in this one are Prof X,Magneto,Beast, and Mystique

Tentpole movies are never released in August. It's one of the worst months to release a film.

The Bourne Ultimatum was pretty successful (an August release). Maybe they just got lucky though.

JP
01-04-2011, 11:45 AM
There are always success stories, just like 300 proving that you can have a successful movie in March. Still, a studio isn't going to take that chance on a comic book film. It's the reason why Captain America has such an awful July release date. Anything to avoid August.

If there's one thing Fox knows how to do is market their films. This is just the calm before the storm, imo. They did miss an opportunity to create earlier buzz with a teaser website or photos, but when they do finally decide to promote, I'm sure it'll be very good.

I just want to smack Fox ..I just read this on X3's wiki page:

"Fox Filmed Entertainment co-chairmen Thomas Rothman and Jim Gianopulos debated whether Rogue should give Iceman a passionate kiss at the film's end or simply hold his hand. The two executives screened The Last Stand for their daughters as well as the studio's female marketing executives, and the hand holding prevailed. Gianopulos stated that the kissing "was all about sex, and we didn't want that.""

This is how they make decisions .. ugh.

Despite pretty much hating them until recently, this is one thing I will always give to Fox, they know how to market a movie, though their marketing for The A-Team was a little shoddy.

I feel that even though Bryan is the producer I think his small influence the movie will be half decent. Bryan will make sure of that.

His involvement and that of Vaughn are why I am excited for this movie, without them, I may have just given up on this franchise.

I'm guessing the whole Xavier lifting the boats going bald thing is him controlling Magnetos mind and forcing Magneto to lift up the boats. Therefore Xavier goes bald just like in the comics. And what I mean by that is Xavier went bald due to telepathy, not telekinesis.

So upon hearing that the trailer description is fake, a couple of thoughts ran through my head: i hope some of that the scenes described in the film happen, and i hope some of them don't.
The ones that I hope happen are the Xavier going bald with the ships rising up. Like I posted before, this would be perfect for having Xavier mind control Magneto. Another scene is the Azazel scene. Another one is beast flying the X-Jet and getting shot down.
The ones I hope don't happen: The hellfire club at Xavier's bedside. And plus they hopefully don't have the cheesy "one wanted peace" "the other was too far gone" lines next to the respective people... That is just lame.
Now onto the whole "Dr. McCoy" discussion. Who's to say Beast isn't a doctor at a young age? But at the same time, I find it more plausible that he isn't a doctor yet. In my mind, it makes more sense for Beast to leave the Team to finish his Doctorate degree. I mean c'mon, the dude was gone for awhile from the team, he had to be doing something.
Also, why is there such a fuss about Havok's beams? They're energy beams.... Not something huge like a costume or name... But that's just my thoughts. The thoughts of a fan who is cool with creative liberties and a fan who isn't pissy or picky. I guess you could call me a casual fan, but that isn't true.. I'm a guy who just goes with the flow, but that doesn't mean I'm a sheep either... But alas, I'm rambling...

And anyone worth respecting is going to keep their mouths quiet out of respect to the tons of hard work that everyone on this production has poured into this film to make it something special, and something that speaks to how the fan's have been treated with the past two movies.

Thank goodness for more silence! :P I'm glad that they're trying to make up for how misdirected X3 and Wolverine was .. I don't care much about Wolverine but I'm still raw about X3 .. it could have been so wonderful! I only saw it once in the theatre whereas X-men and X2 I saw more than once. I didn't even bother to go to the theatre with Wolverine..

I'm assuming he'll be a teenager or young adult, like the rest of the team, save for Magneto and Xavier of course. Bosef said he's a "kid" which makes sense. Till, Jones (or does he technically have two last names, Landry Jones?) and Kravitz all seem like they'd play teenagers. Hoult as well.

I haven't seen the First Class trailer yet, but the Havok powers (red beam) description is correct. One more thing I can add about what to expect, is that Magneto's helmet looks a hell of a lot better then in the previous movies. Kind of like Jim Lee's version of the helmet if I remember correctly. More sharp edged.

In a way, I guess it would make sense to have Havok's beam red since his brother's optic blast is red as well .. however, I would applaud the production team if Havok was really Cyclops and I am just speculating because we know nothing about this movie and I keep reading that we're in for surprises and things aren't what they seem .. Guys,

I'm telling you. That trailer is not real. It is all fan-made up.

First of all, McCoy is a kid, which should've been your first clue.

Second, I know what the actual trailer is and it is not that at all.I'm trying to help, not tease.

Non-disclosure agreements aren't somethin I f**k around with, even online and under screenames.

The trailer though is pretty cool. You guys really don't have any clue what you're in store for with this movie though, and it's probably better that way too for your own enjoyment. Singer and Vaughn put together something that redeems the franchise from X3 and Wolverine, and really captures a lot of essence of what the X-Men are about.

Thanks bosef. You're respected here so i trust that you're telling the truth.

Can't wait to see this trailer...whenever that may be.:yay:

Welp.

The rumor is spreading fast today that the first trailer for Matthew Vaughn's X-Men: First Class (http://www.comingsoon.net/films.php?id=50645) will hit theaters this Friday with The Green Hornet (http://www.comingsoon.net/films.php?id=19507). Not true, 20th Century Fox tells SuperHeroHype, as the studio is still trying to figure out the launch date. Our guess is that we'll get a first look at the movie during Fox's broadcast of the Super Bowl on February 6, but Fox wasn't able to confirm that.
Stay tuned...

I like stuff to be in lne with source material too...but FOX has devastated that already. Singer isnt the holy grail to comic movies cause Superman Returns was worse one to date for me personally I would have walked out on it but lady I was with actually liked it and I guarantee shes never thought about reading a comic. But since he did pretty good job on foirst X fliccs I will reserve judgement on this tho, I really hope they put time travel into this story since that has always been involved in X-Men lore potentially set up Cable and /or Apocalypse. The lack of marketing for all these movies coming up gives me a feel for how competitive the market is getting and studios are trying to really bring their A-Game as they genre of comic inspired movies is now HUGE! Why that though maybe the only way to correct the devestation FOX has done to the continuity of the franchise...plus you have to admit a movie with Cable and Apocalypse would be off the charts...studios need to stop with the watered down comic book flicks and make them all out crazy in scope ALA The Avengers, The Incredible Hulk, and hopefully THor and Captain America...so sick of these water down take your money BS movies like Superman Returns, Spiderman 1 & 3,
X-Men Origins Wolverine and Transformers 2.....start making movies I dont regret paying to see because I'll be there to see them just get tired of feeling like I wasted 2 hours and $40 bucks ( I always take my two sons)

it seems the same site who said the trailer was going to be released Friday is now doing cover stories of James McAvoy and January Jones

COVER STORY: Fox moved at superheroic speed to fill out the members of “X-Men: First Class” — starting with the man who leads the pack.

The studio hired James McAvoy to play the role of Charles Xavier, the professor who organizes the X-Men band of mutants into a group (and force for good). Patrick Stewart played Xavier in the original set of pictures, but of course as an origin story, many of the characters in “First Class” will skew younger.

McAvoy, who's next up in the Robert Redford post-Civil War drama “The Conspirator,” has played in films with superhero themes before, primarily as a lead character in the assassin picture “Wanted.”

Aussie bombshell Rose Byrne will play Moira MacTaggert, a scientist and love interest of Xavier.

— Steven Zeitchik

COVER STORY: When January Jones was initially cast as mutant telepath Emma Frost in “X-Men: First Class,” she was eager to for the chance to break out of the retro 1960s world of Betty Draper, her character on “Mad Men.” Imagine the actress’ surprise when she learned that prim Betty and the vixen Emma could be partners in time.

“When I heard that this installment of ‘X-Men’ was gonna take place in the ’60s I was like, ‘Oh my God, you must be kidding me!’” Jones said. “But I read the script and familiarized myself with the character of Emma Frost. She’s so, so far from Betty and from ‘Mad Men,’ and it takes place in that time but it doesn’t feel like a period movie.”

A Kennedy-era prequel to the three previous X-Men films, “X-Men: First Class” finds Charles Xavier (James McAvoy) and the man who will become known as Magneto (Michael Fassbender) discovering their powers for the first time. The plan is to present them as onetime friends who are pulled down very different paths by life experience and their own worldviews. Some members of the creative team have said that the public-life trajectories of two 1960s icons — the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. and Malcolm X — have informed the story arc. Emma Frost, meanwhile, is a member of the villainous Hellfire Club, and she possesses the mutant power to morph into a diamond form.

Frost’s form is well known to comic book fans — IGN readers once voted her “the hottest comic babe,” picking her ahead of Black Widow, Power Girl, Elektra and Catwoman. The reason, no doubt, is Frost’s penchant for especially revealing outfits and the curves beneath those meager threads. “The costumes are insane,” Jones said.

“It’s a lot of very body-conscious stuff. If you look at the comic book, she’s barely dressed. She’s got quite the bod, which is very intimidating.”

Jones, who said she is encouraged to avoid the gym while shooting “Mad Men” to maintain a body typical of the period, flew to London to start shooting “X-Men: First Class” the day after her show wrapped.

“I’m thinking, ‘I’m supposed to be doing crunches on the plane,’” she said. “How am I gonna get buff in one day? I’m a petite person, so I didn’t want to go into a strict workout and eating regime. I would have disappeared entirely, and she’s very busty, very voluptuous, so I didn’t want to get rid of any of my curves.”

The workout-averse Jones lifted some weights for the role, but otherwise struck flattering poses and hoped for the best. She did have some advantages over the other actors when it came to costumes. “I don’t have to do all the crazy prosthetics,” Jones said. “When I morph into my diamond form, it’s all done on computer.”

One of the first things Jones wanted to understand about her character was the source of Emma’s anger, an answer she found by steeping herself in “X-Men” lore.

“Emma was a bespectacled, mousy child who had this power when she was young that she couldn’t quite harness, the telepathy, the mind-twisting stuff,” Jones said. “She had a falling out with her father and went her own direction.”

It wasn’t just learning Emma’s back-story that was important to Jones, but being able to reach hard-core fans. “Fans of the X-Men comics have a very set idea of these characters in their heads,” Jones said. “I wanted to know as much as I could about her so I wasn’t disappointing anyone. I’m sure I will still disappoint someone.”

For Jones, it’s a welcome chance to branch out from 1960s housewife to 1960s bad girl. “I’m riding around in helicopters, I’m in a boat one day, I’m in all these fight sequences, we’re all over the English countryside,” she said. “I feel like I’m a kid playing mutant.”

I've been talking to Matthew Vaughn about this report, which leaked a few days ago. It is true that Fox is testing various trailers right now, but they haven't locked down the final trailer - at least that has been showen to Vaughn. No, Harry, not soon enough. Though I do get the feeling they're holding out on us because they want to give us the best trailer. I'm getting good vibes. But I'm also getting impatient. Well, that's an understatement. But I'll be really extra nice if you let me screen the trailer, Fox! I won't tell no one, no how!

I guess their first trailer didn't hit off too well so they cut another one or did a Q&A to put in what the audience wanted to see and take out what they didn't like.

Harry Knowles on the "trailer" description.

I've been talking to Matthew Vaughn about this report, which leaked a few days ago. It is true that Fox is testing various trailers right now, but they haven't locked down the final trailer - at least that has been showen to Vaughn. SO - I'd be a little careful taking any of this particularly to heart. At least for a bit. We'll see soon enough.

So Vaughn doesnt take part of the edition of the trailer?

I dont like that.

The director of Captain America talked a few days ago and it seemed that he was part of the making of the trailer.

We don't know how much Vaughn is involved in the trailer making process, but look at it this way. With only 5 months until the movie's release, would you rather Vaughn spend his time working on the movie to make sure it's the best that it can be... or would you rather he spend his time working on a trailer? I'll take the former.

the trailer can be made after the shooting finish.

Me too.

Remember with the last two movies...great trailers, not so good movies. Let's not go that route this time.

the movie is done, in a sense, they have to edite it.

We're getting more goodies from the untitled Spider-Man reboot that comes out in 2012, more than this, which comes out in about six months...now is a good time for an actual still or teaser poster...at minimum.

I like all this mystery.

Well be really happy the day we see the first trailer or pics, so I dont mind to wait a bit more.

I know I will enjoy the movie more than the previous movies, so Im really quiet about it.

Remember when Bryan Singer said we might get some photos in September or October? :o

Is it really that difficult to release one photo? At the very least they could give us a photo of McAvoy as Xavier just standing there. I'll take anything at this point. *desperate* :(

Those articles JP posted about the changes in marketing people must really be affecting things over there.

Its alright. (Still bitter about no Spidey 4 :p)

X-Men fans get **** on once more :(

Its odd, I always used to think X-Men and Spider-Man were Marvel's two massive franchises that would always take first priority. As in those fans would be pleased first.

Nice? I went and saw X-Men Origins: Wolverine twice out of the goodness in my heart!!! :oldrazz:

A bit over the top, JP. You're not normally the one to have geekgasms. I hope there were tissues handy!

It's a good costume, for sure. Better than the Maguire one, which i posted on my site for comparison. As one commenter said, that outfit now looks dated and impractical.

I kind of like it.
