View Full Version : Survivor: Nicaragua
The announcement has been made. The new season will be located in Nicaragua and is set to premiere this fall!
In staying consistent with previous threads...the first post will continue to be updated as events unfold.
Discuss.
:yay:
UPDATE: This season's twist has been announced. The survivors will be divided into two groups based on age. One group will be 40+, the other will be 30 and below.
UPDATE #2: The cast has been announced!
UPDATE #3: The hidden immunity idols will once again be part of the game. This time, however, 'visual riddles' will replace the written clues.
UPDATE #4: A new twist in the game is called the 'Medallion of Power'. There will one of these for the entire game and the tribe that owns it gets to choose whether or not they want to use it. If they choose to, it will give them a distinct advantage in the following immunity challenge. The catch is, after the challenge is over the MOP goes over to the other tribe where they get to keep it until they use it then it flips back to the other tribe again.
UPDATE #5: The 'Medallion of Power' is no more.
UPDATE #6: La Flor and Espada are no more. The tribes have officially merged.

I'll be interested in seeing how they change the immunity idol process around (the Russell Factor). I also hope they go back to the 2 person final tribal council.
Hard to believe it'll be 21 seasons. It's come a long way from Hatch's naked *** running around. :woot:

Interesting location for the new season. I guess its no longer the Nicaragua of 20 years ago.
I'm also curious to know what these 'new and innovative' challenges will be like.

There's something interesting about this. It's also been reported that Season 22 will take place in Nicaragua. Season 22 also will be Probst last season unless he signs on for more. The only time they've held back to back survivors in the same location is when they've held an All-Star one.

Probst has been signing year by year contracts for some time, I think. Probst won't have much of a career out of Survivor and I reckon he'll go down with the ship.
Entertainment Weekly's Dalton Ross on Final 3:
As much as I loved the challenge, I hated the fact that it being the last one meant we were stuck with another final three. I've delivered this spiel too many times to mention, so I'll keep it brief, but with a final three all the drama about picking the person you bring to go against you in the finals is gone. With a final three, two of the other people left can still force a tie, meaning the final challenge winner doesn't have the full power to make a decision that could cost them a million dollars. Also A vs. B is just inherently more dramatic than A vs. B vs. C. It's far more impactful to have a jury voting between two options as opposed to simply picking one of the above. This remains my biggest Survivor pet peeve. I don't care if great players don't make the finals if you go back down from three to two. It's just better! Okay, I kept that rant pretty concise this time so yay for me.

But the same was probably thought of Parvati and a couple others given their relative success. Given the mentality of many of the shows' participants, I'd think several of them would keep him around in the hopes that they can go to the final tribal council with him, thinking he'd be a lock for losing votes.

Survivor is moving to Wednesday nights this fall! Here's CBS' new fall schedule:

I think the change to Wednesday is a better one then most peope think.
Wednesday nights are a wasteland for TV as it is, so Survivor won't have any competition for it to go up against like it did on Thursdays with the NBC comedy block and the Grey's Anatomy. Plus once March madness comes back around, they won't have to skip two weeks like the usually do.
It'll be fine. Now if CBS really wanted to make a statement, they should move The Amazing Race to join it on Wednesday. That would pretty much seal the deal for them owning Wednesday nigts.

Happy Town is gone. I think its a self-preservation move. With rumors of American Idol going to Thursday, putting Survivor on TV's weakest night is a way to try to perserve the show.

I don't think it's that big of a deal. According to what I'm hearing online, he applied on his own and wasn't recruited by the show, plus he's been a huge fan since the beginning so he's a-ok my book! Apparently he was going to be on an earlier season but he had to drop out because of health issues.
I bet Kate Hudson is fuming somewhere! She's applied for the show multiple times and is a huge fan, but she's been passed over for obvious reason I'm assuming.

THIS JUST IN... from CBS Entertainment... "SURVIVOR" MOVES TO WEDNESDAY NIGHT THIS FALL IN A TRIBAL BATTLE OF THE AGES
LOS ANGELES - July 28, 2010 - The next edition of SURVIVOR will be a battle for the ages...literally. The 20 new castaways will be divided into two Tribes of 10: Young vs. Old. The Espada Tribe, made up of individuals over the age of 40, must prove they have the life experience and knowledge that will ultimately help them Outwit and Outlast their younger competitors. The La Flor Tribe, consisting of individuals 30 years of age and younger, will have to use their youth and vitality to Outplay and ultimately Outlast their elders. Who will prevail: youth or maturity?
SURVIVOR: NICARAGUA premieres in its new night this fall on Wednesday, Sept. 15 - returning to the time period where the series' first season aired in the summer of 2000.
They're moving Survivor to a different night too!?!

I don't think the age difference will make a difference. I've heard this cast is one of the most athletic they've ever had but, that they were thrown a curveball and there were very few physical challenges at all.
Haven't they done age before, and didn't the older tribe end up being the more productive of the two?
They've had so many twists it's hard to remember them all...
SuperT
07-29-2010, 02:49 PM
No they've never strictly done an age twist before. Back in Survivor Thailand, the two oldest castaways chose their teams and it ended being split between the young physically fit (Sook Jai) and the older, less fit (Chuay Ghan) and Sook Jai got dominated by the time the merge came aruond.
Also during Survivor Palau the tribes were pretty much split like that with Ulong having all the young, athletic people and they ended up losing every single immunity challenge.

Some tidbits about this season:
- Most athletic cast they've had in quite some time.
- No Exile Island
- The Hidden Immunity idols are back but there are no more written clues. All the clues are cryptic visual riddles that the castaways will have to solve. Jeff Probst says it's pretty much impossible to find the idols with just one or even two clues.
- New Twist: Medallion of Power - there will one of these for the entire game and the tribe that owns it gets to choose whether or not they want to use it. If they choose to, it will give them a distinct advantage in the following immunity challenge. The catch is, after the challenge is over the MOP goes over to the other tribe where they get to keep it until they use it then it flips back to the other tribe again.

Its tough to say. Either he will be eliminated immedietly, or he will step up and become the leader of his tribe in which case he could go deep into the game.

My question is, what the hell is Johnson playing at? He admits to being one of the weakest players? If they lose again will he ask to be voted out? Did the Coach bite off more than he could chew? I feel like he would've worked better on the younger tribe and the only thing that will get him to last in the game is a switch up. The younger players seem more in awe of him where as the older ones seem to resent his presence.

You take or hope you land in the finals with one (or in the case of the F3 two other) person(s) that are equally despised or more than you are by the jury.
I like a Final Two just because it's always been that way usually, but I don't vehemently hate a Final Three since it pretty much gives the same outcome more often then not anyway.
I don't think that's the case at all. Final three gives you an easy out. If you don't like the two more deserving players (as would've been Russell and Parvati last season) you can just pick a third choice who doesn't really deserve to be there, but is anyway. It takes the drama out of it.
The guy they're calling Fabio is a genius....he asked the girl with the prosthetic leg how she made it move.....
Yeah...he's a real Einstein.
CBS posted the first immunity idol clue online:
http://www.cbs.com/primetime/survivor/photos/Hidden_Immunity_Idol_Clue_1/
I'm glad they changed the way the clues are written.
It's a final three again this season.
I'm not really a fan of a 'Final 3' scenario because there's always one person that gets completely left out.

If Russell was there he would have hidden that girls prosthetic leg pronto. :cwink:Also I wonder if somewhere Coach is miffed that they call Jimmy Johnson "coach"?
That's the first thing that popped into my mind.
I thought Jimmy was going to be the first one to go, then Wendy opened her mouth. lmao
I'm pretty sure Russell would have been kicked off the show if he hid a prosthetic leg. That is something that you just do not mess with.
Yeah, Wendy should've just kept her mouth shut and her head down.

True, but usually the person that gets shut out is the person that didn't have a chance to begin with whether it was a Final Two or Three anyway. haha

old people vs young? That doesnt even seem fair...lol
The majority of the older tribe looks to be in very good shape though.
1) The "minority alliance," discriminating against the crippled girl = irony.
2) Holly is nuuuuuuuts. I love it. Jimmy must be jumping up and down inside because now there is a bigger target than him. Maybe old man Johnson is smarter than he lets on. If he can survive to a tribe shuffle, he'll be in good shape. The younger kids seem to idolize him where as the older guys have too much ego in the way to even consider him a good leader.
NaOnka is NUTS. I bet Sash is regretting that alliance.

So the older tribe responds to loss by voting out their weakest link and the younger tribe votes out one of their stronger players? Not smart. They better hope like hell that the Medallion of Power is loaded next week because despite her big mouth, Na won't be able to carry the tribe.
Speaking of Na, what the hell is her problem with Fabio?

And this minority thing is stupid. If I was there I wouldn't even join that and tell them to F off.
Shannon dug his own grave, but I'm guessing there was something we didn't see between the last scene on the beach and tribal council. My guess is a couple of the players changed their votes to avoid a tie and Shannon was fairly aware that he was going. What else could explain his melt down?

I'd like to see Jimmy go over to the younger tribe. They need him.

Also, Jimmy T, this guy must've been picked last all the time as a kid and still holds around that pain, it's the only possible reason for being so against Jimmy Johnson, especially what he said when writing his name.

Voting for Kelly B was such a horrible decision. So you tell the person with the hidden immunity idol that you're gunning for him, then don't vote him and his immunity idol out? Now they have to waste another vote to get rid of him. Also, was Kelly B really that much of a threat to make it all the way to the top 3-5? String her along through the merge, pick off the rest of the older tribe, then get her. I don't think she was much of threat to go on a long individual immunity winning streak. They were thinking way too far ahead getting rid of her.

Brenda and co have got to be the least intelligent players ever, they go to all the trouble of setting up a scenario where the hidden immunity idol gets flushed out and then when it works and they can get rid of the guy holding it they don't do it.... This is just incredibly stupid and makes you wonder why the heck they bothered splitting the vote to begin with, they might as well just have voted for Kelly B at the start and hoped the Marty would be paranoid and play the idol.
Did Kelly B have any friends in the game? It seemed to me that the whole"we are worried about sympathy votes" line was just a really lame excuse to get rid of a player they didnšt like personally. There wasn't a shred of evidence that anyone was showing her the slightest bit of sympathy.

I thought the same thing, she seemed to be targeted by everyone for no real reason. She was a good competitor, but wasn't going to win many individual challenges, seemed like a pretty good person to keep around for a while, just cut her loose later in the game.
Wyrminarrd
10-21-2010, 05:02 PM
Exactly, she had no friends to protect her or people looking to form an alliance with her and she even appeared to not even try to form alliances. Nothing about Kelly B. indicated that she was any threat at this point in time nor would she be later since if Brenda and her bunch stay thigh they will have at least 3-5 opportunities to get rid of her before the end.
This season has been plagued by people trying to play to far into the future and not paying enough attention to what is going on right now. Voting Yve of before Dan is another example of this, it seemed like the young people there were just trusting that they would still have allies on the other tribe come the merge... For all they know there might be a whole new alliance that has formed while they were gone so arriving at the merge down on numbers might be a disaster.

She's actually quite the accomplished track and field star from her college. I'm surprised at her complete turnaround on the show. Her pre-show interviews and then her on show persona are pretty much night and day.
I think it's an act...

When the person you most want to win is the blonde dumbass with the IQ of a lead paint-chip, then you know you have an unlikeable cast.
Finally watched the entire episode.
Not sad to see Alina go. She is a weasel, but she still has nothing on Naaaaa Onnnnkaaaa.
Jane needs to get over her Marty obsession. She's a nice lady other than the fact she seems to turn into a sociopath whenever someone mentions the Mart-man. Even though he's a preppie spazz, I kinda like Marty, just because the rest of the cast sucks so much.
But back to our favorite waste of space. Na Onka is such a lady. Farting like that on camera. And a kleptomaniac and pathological liar too. I wonder if she steals from the kids she teaches.
I can't believe she's a damn teacher. I'm a teacher and I take a lot of pride in it and work damn hard at it. She gives a bad name to the entire education system.
Wait, what? She actually farted? lmao, I must have missed that.
She's disgusting.
:lmao: at tribal and the person voted out!

Having Dan and NaOnka still around at this point in the game is killing this season for me.

I swear Naonka is the most vile characterin reality tv history. She puts Omarosa to shame. At this point, I think she is being kept around bc she is an easy win against. Ive NEVER seen anyone play such a horrendous social game and really not give a damn. She is unbeleivable
Sad that Marty is gone. He was the most deserving potential winner out of the bunch and the only one I remotely cared for. The rest are either forgettable or loathesome
Still hate Jane. I was laughing when she struggled with her challenge. I also laughed when the woman couldnt break through the wall...lol. I didnt like when she winked when Marty was booted. I hope she's next

Pretty much agree with most of what you said. Not sure who I'm rooting for in this game at the moment...
Yeah, this season is horrendous. Marty really got the shaft by the tribe swap. Otherwise this would've been Thailand 2.0 with him being a poor man's Brian. This is already Thailand 2.0 in the sense that no one on the show is likable.

One thing that can be said for this group is that at least they're all self aware enough to know that they're not nearly likable enough to win against certain players. I mean, I guess that's pretty standard gameplay, but at least they're not walking around like their **** doesn't stink and under the impression that everyone adores them as much as they adore themselves.
BTW, Matt, I still cant get over that avatar.

This show is getting worse and worse by the week.
As soon as Dan, Fabio and Benry get voted off, I'll probably stop watching the show.
Apart from them, there is NO ONE I care for or want to see win.
Naonkaka needs to get pushed off a cliff. "I'm from South Central"

I have to agree with you guys that Fabio is the most likeable one left and thats saying alot bc I do not like him at all. Benry and Chase arent bad but they are completely forgettable and barely register.
If VH1 was still airing Charm School, they should ship Naonka over there

At least Marty got to troll the hell out of them one last time.
I'm probably going to end up cheering for Benry or Fabio.
Wow...I'm completely shocked by tonight's tribal.

did you see the previews for next week's show? Naonka does something stupid that makes her tribe mates hate her. Isnt that every episode?
That's what I was thinking...when doesn't she do something that upsets the entire tribe!?!

First smart thing this tribe has done. Now if only the previews hold true and we can see Naonka get voted out (or quit), then I'll be happy.
Oh, and who the **** uses WOOD to shield a fire? At the very least they could have used Naonka as the barricade; that would have made the entire show worth watching.
I don't know how it happened but Naonka makes "Coach", aka Dragon Slayer, likable. Naonka is just a crude, and mean human being. I also don't buy that it is all an act for the show.
I have to say I really hate this season.

Naonka makes dog crap likable. Not that Brenda was any better. Manipulative, entitled, indignant princess. At least Naonka probably knows she's a horrible human-being. Brenda thinks she's all that with her "I don't have to scramble" spiel.
Sash, Chase, Jane, Naonka, Brenda, Purple Kelly... most of the contestants are terrible. Benry, Fabio and Dan's okay (even if he is a complete gimp who should have left on day 6).

So glad Brenda got voted off, now Naonka needs to go so the show can get at least a bit more watchable.
What was even more surprising for me was Sash not giving Brenda the idol and then voting for her elimination.

If two people do indeed quit in the next episode, and I'm assuming it's NaOinka and Purple Kelly from the previews, then it's a win/win because both those useless players will be gone AND because NaOinka quits, she won't be invited back for any future seasons.
(Burnett stated as much a couple seasons ago.)

There's no pay-off in seeing her quit. It's just pathetic, not satisfying. I want to see her blind-sided in some epic tribal and watch her shriek and cry and go nuts and refuse to give Jeff her tribal torch, and then try and burn anyone who comes close.
This is just her disappearing in a whimper, tail between her legs. Ho hum.

The manner in which she leaves is of less importance to me that the fact that she is gone. Would I like to see the scenario you presented? Absolutely, but I'll take solace in the fact that she'll be forever known not only as the one of, if not the most horrible person ever on the show, but also as a quitter. :o
I could see why NaOnka would quit. She's a spoiled brat who only cares about herself...but Purple Kelly? Why would she possibly quit?
For some reason I can never remember Purple Kelly being on the show until they show her in tribal council or in a challenge. I think there are ghosts more noticeable than her.
Question: If someone quits at this stage do they still get to be on the jury? Or is the jury shy that one person?

I think they'll end up putting the two people that just missed out on the juror seats in instead of the quitters. However, I could see them making an exception this time just to get NaOinka on there for her final tribal council ranting and raving.

Here's a spoiler for you guys so don't read if you don't want to know:
Apparently Na'onka quits tonight because she feels guilty about voting out Brenda at the last Tribal Council. She gives her idol to Chase.
At that very same Tribal Council, now that Na'onka has quit and Brenda is gone, Purple Kelly see's no point in staying just to be voted out next week so she quits instead. LOL
