With fans eagerly awaiting the retro Sonic 4, Sega pulls back the curtain on Sonic Colors, a brand new adventure for the Nintendo Wii and DS, heading our way by the end of 2010. Sonic Colors sees our blue hedgehog hero speeding through theme-park inspired worlds as he attempts to free the colorful alien Wisps from the clutches of the evil Dr. Eggman. Eggman has imprisoned the energy-filled aliens in an amusement park in orbit around the planet, and Sonic has to make use of the aliens' unique powers to help them escape enslavement. Using the aliens' color energy, Sonic will be able to create new paths through the game's levels. Yellow energy will let Sonic drill through the ground, for instance, while cyan turns Sonic into a laser, shooting through obstacles as if they weren't even there.
The Wii version of Sonic Colors will feature a combination of 2D and 3D gameplay, while the DS version "takes full advantage of the console's dual screen," whatever that entails. With Sonic 4 on the way and Sonic Colors due out this holiday season, Sega now has both sorts of Sonic fans covered.
Hopefully we'll see more of Sonic Colors at E3 2010 next month.
When I just had hope about Sonic 4...they make Sonic get the power of the rainbow. I give in, there is no hope for Sega.

I don't think they can go any lower, and just for that they will. Who has the idea that Sonic should use rainbows and aliens to fight bad guys...*sigh* Just in case anyone cared (cause I sure don't anymore) here is the art for the aliens...they look like Pokemon.

Well lets be honest, now. I think we're being too critical of the concept of this game. I mean, if the game was starring Mario, and Mario had to use colors to save Peach from Bowser, no one would be put off. Mario has done some weird concepts before.
I'm going to take my wait and see route. The concept sounds good to me, so lets get the gameplay...
Hmm...this reminds me of the time we had the Sonic/Sega Racing thread that said that game would be bad and had a bad concept, then the game came out and a lot of us loved it.

Except the difference is that every time Mario has had a weird concept like going into space, being a part of an RPG, racing around in a go kart, it has worked. I'd give Mario a chance with the "colors" concept because Nintendo knows how to make a good game.
Sonic on the other hand, you get the werehog, and playing as three characters at the same time, or playing as his dark counterpart with guns and you get horrible game after horrible game.

Quoted for truth.
Mario games are more readily accepted due to the fantastic quality that the games end up being.
Sega hasn't put true quality in a Sonic game in years.

Then really, the argument isn't "this game fails because of the concept behind it", but rather "this game fails because its Sonic"?

"Fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me"
Sega hasn't had the ability to make a decent Sonic game in years, with the exception of handhelds. This one will be no different.

Sadly I must agree. It's either bad plot or just gross gameplay. If this game pulls out to be a hit, I'll take a picture of me making out with my foot and post it on this thread. That is never going to happen though. :o
I think Cypher does have a point, even though the plot could work if Sonic Team could just make a decent game, it won't for that very reason. Sure, Mario has had some very strange plots. Heck, Galaxy is a plumber is space! But still, it's Nintendo and they are just the better gaming company. The sad side to this is that about every kid from ages 9-12 will die for this game. That's the very reason Sega is still around. Poor souls don't know any better. :(

No it's "This Game fails because it's made by ****** developers." The team that made Sonic Unleashed, Sonic the Hedgehog '06, and the Sonic Storybook games.
You know, maybe if Sonic Team knew how to make a good game, maybe we would have more faith. Sonic Team hasn't made a good game in over 10 years with Sonic Adventure, and even then most of that game sucked with the only good parts being the Sonic parts.

Why buy out Sega when Nintendo still has a bunch of properties of their own to work on like Kid Icarus, Pikmin, the Legend of Zelda, Star Fox, and a bunch of other properties that are begging to be updated for the Wii.
Sega just needs to get reorganized. You know, hire people with talent.

Let's go with that one :oldrazz:
An Unleashed-esque game with only hedgehog gameplay and an interesting power-up feature? Sounds good to me, as long as there's a good balance of speed and platforming, although I am looking to Sonic 4 a bit more.

Sad thing is they do have some people with talent somewhere in their studios. Valkyria Chronicles is one of the best games this gen (IMO). Then again the Sega fail did slightly poke it's head out again when after sales slowly getting better, and creating an entire anime for it, they announce it's sequal for the PSP (nothing against the PSP, but Valkyria Chronicles 2 should have been a console title again rather than a handheld).
As far as Sonic tho, it's one of those things that I just don't get HOW Sega can fail at it worse and worse with every reincarnation of the series. Quit making gimmicks, Sonic doesn't need rainbows, or knights armor and weapons, or to be a....Werehog....Sega already has several working models for successful and fun Sonic games, why they continually ignore those routes and think up crazy **** is beyond me. I mean it's akin to Nintendo thinking Link needs guns instead of a sword, or Sony deciding Drake should be in a giant robotic armored anime styled suit. Sonic is Sega's mascot, even after all of this time, it's amazing how after all of these years they still can't get him right despite getting like the first 6 or so games perfect.

i can't see what everyone dislikes here..this game looks great...its taken the best bit of sonic unleashed and made a game...even the wisp creature power ups looks great.
i think folk are too eager to diss sonic..i for one look forward to this it looks great andf previews have all been very positive (the ones ive seen anyway).
as long it is stays away from the god awful sonic secret rings/black knight controls which it appears to this could be great.
finally a good sonic game and sonic 4 seems to be shaping up nicely too!
Although I haven't kept up with Sonic for quite a few years, i'm wondering if it would be best to make a new game like that last Mario game they had. Where it's back to it's roots on a 2D plane but with the 3D element.
Unless they already tried that in the past couple of years.

They're doing it now. They are releasing Sonic 4 (who knew, right?) in downloadable episodes. the first episode comes out this fall on the Xbox Live Arcade, PSN and Wii Shop Channel. When all the episodes (i think 4) are released, they will release it all on one disc in stores. It's a 3D game played in a 2D perspective. Sonic will be the only playable character in the first episode.
Sorry for the history lesson. Sounded like you needed one :p
Thanks for the info. I got hooked on ****ing WoW for 3-4 years and quit about 6 months ago and am now trying to catch up on all the games I didn't give myself time to play.
Hahaha, I need to catch up big time. Still need to beat Metroid Prime 2 & 3, Mario Galaxy. No More Heroes and still need to play Batman: Arkham Asylum.
Last game I played was GoW III. I'm thinking about getting the new Donkey Kong, looks fun just like the old SNES version.

...the hell...? If I'm reading this post correctly, you're blaming Nintendo for shi**y Sega/Sonic games? Or did you mean "Nintendo BUY out Sega" and not "butt out"?
Looks like Colors has been getting a pretty good reception thus far for a 3D Sonic...

I never got why a few here were hating on this game. I always thought it looked promising and reviews seem to be saying it is.
I too am looking forward to this, and if the positive press keeps up, this thread might just need a title change to commemorate this potential milestone of 3D Sonic gaming.

Eh. Sonic Adventure and Sonic Adventure 2 (despite introducing Shadow) were still relatively good games., so it wouldn't be a milestone for 3-D Sonic.

Anyway the gameplay videos of Colors look fun so far. I really love what I'm seeing with it, and I absolutely adore the music for the game. I would have to actually play it to give a good judgment on it though. Oh, and this thread needs the title changed to Sonic Colors. Honestly.

Really, didn't we go through this already? When they announced Sonic & Sega All-Star Racing, didn't someone post a thread just to bash it, and it got great reviews? So I guess everytime a new Sonic game comes out, someone here will create a topic to bash it, and the game will have good reviews instead.

I still have to pick up All Stars Racing, I rented it and loved it.
Love it. While not without flaws, it is pretty much the best 3D Sonic yet. And dare I say it, it's better than Sonic 4 (itself a fine game, but bogged down by physics issues).

Getting the Happy Tree Friends writers to write this did wonders for the humor. I've gotten some good chuckles out of the cut scenes. Especially anything dealing with Robotnik's alien snatching robots.

I have the game but I didn't play it very much, since as you said the AI ruins the game since it's a cheap SOB. I should perhaps consider digging it out of my closet again and see if I can get four people together to play it. I'll need more controllers and VMUs, though.
