Facebook has a new feed feature which allows your friends to see every move you make while on the website. Everyone is able to view who became friends with who, who's broken up with who, what did you write on so and so's page to new groups you've joined . Alot of folks are now reacting to this by joinging the "Facebook Sucks" group, which links to a petition page that is now at 3,000 something signatures.
For those you who use it, or maybe even those who don't use it, what's your opinon? If Myspace was the do this it would be all over the news. And we all know that colleges are filled with stalkerish freaks, so it doesn't matter if you have an .edu e-mail addy or not. :p
btw, The user can't disable the feature, or so it seems right now anyway.

btw, The user couldn't disable if they wanted to, or so it seems right now anyway.Key difference from Myspace. One, only friends can view your page. So you have the option of keeping whoever you want (even friends) from knowing who you are. Two, you need a college e-mail to join which cuts out that lovely 40-year old molestor demographic. Finally, you need to attend to same college in order to view anything but their picture, name, and the college which they attend (unless you are friends)
Doesn't really bother me. I accept people I know, send messages to people I know, read messages from people I know.

I know that you need a .edu e-mail address to register with Facebook (I have a facebook account). It doesn't matter if you're "friends" with some or not imo. Some people friend folks because they think they know them, and some people can be closet stalkers. You cleary haven't watched Lifetime. Sheesh.

Yeah, facebook is getting mad creepy....although its true only people who are your friends can see what you do.....how many people have you accepted friendships and was like "whateva....."
The owners of facebook have been in negotiations to sell facebook to corporations.....remember when it all started as a little social network....years ago.
It's gonna get to the point, where people on facebook will know who was the last person to view your profile ...or "Joe Schmoe viewed your
profile 5 times within the last 3 days".......
But facebook has a huge hold on people...everyone is addicted to (I'm not in particular, I've only updated it like twice within last 6 months. ...but when I go library/computer cluster...everyone is on it). In my honest opinion, I would have never made a big deal outta facebook if the entire world wasn't on it.
It's gonna get even scarier...

But yeah. I'm sure they will make an option to turn it off or something. I don't know anyone who uses Facebook who likes it; and I'm a college freshman, so that's most of the people I know.

USA TODAY (http://www.usatoday.com/tech/news/2006-09-11-facebook-everyone_x.htm)
Facebook will soon be available to everyone
Posted 9/11/2006 10:20 PM ET
By Janet Kornblum, USA TODAY
Facebook, the online networking site once the exclusive terrain of college students, will soon be opening up to the world.
The Palo Alto, Calif.-based company will soon be allowing anyone with a valid e-mail address to sign up on the site and join a regional network. It will launch just over 500 networks in the USA and abroad, according to company spokeswoman Melanie Deitch.
When Facebook first launched two years ago, it was only open to people who had valid college e-mail addresses. Last September, the site opened up to high school students. And in May, it opened up to selected work networks. Now it will be open to virtually anyone.
And that could spell trouble for Facebook, says Danah Boyd, a social media researcher for Yahoo.
"Already, the high school students, college students and corporate accounts are having a hard time dealing with each other's presence," Boyd says. "I don't even want to think what will happen when Mom and Dad can join."
There is no date set for the expanded registration, says Facebook's Deitch.
Facebook originally had planned to launch it today but decided to delay the announcement after tens of thousands of people in its 9.3-million-user network protested a different change the company made to its site last week. Last Tuesday it launched a feature that turned people's personal information into customized news headlines. On Thursday, Facebook apologized to users and added privacy controls allowing people to limit the type of information sent over the network.
Facebook needs "to do a much better job of communicating with our user base," Deitch says. But she acknowledges that some users may be upset by the latest plans. Users have been upset nearly every time Facebook has expanded, she says.
"I find the strong possibility of another backlash," said Ben Parr, a Northwestern University junior who helped organize the protests against the news feeds. "It depends on the privacy features they include." Deitch says there will be privacy controls.
Currently, when people sign up, they create profiles that include as much information as they want to give — everything from their relationship status to political affiliations. Each person can browse profiles of anyone on his or her network. However, they can also search for people outside of their networks — and gain access to their profiles by asking permission.
While the networks are far from private, students especially have grown to see Facebook as their private homes online.
And this move could make them feel like they've lost that, says Andrew Ledbetter, a graduate student at the University of Kansas.
"Many Facebook users like the site because of its traditional image of exclusivity," he says.

I got into it becaue I could find out what was going on around campus, keep in touch with friends, and make new friends on campus without having to deal with messages from some allegedly seventeen year old asking for my AIM or some band that didn't bother to look at my damn musical preferences asking to be my "friend". The worst part is that they know all this. They saw what happened when they pulled their whole feed fiasco, we don't want a limitless network, but they obviously don't care. At least the network privacy settings are still functioning, but how long is that going to last? Furthermore, now that it caters to companies, how much do you want to bet that we'll see scam groups like VECTOR Marketing using it to harass us?

Here I go under a psuedonym, people can see my face, sure, but only because I choose to post it. On this board, I am not a person defined by my physical state, but by my ideas and my ideas alone. Furthermore, that's what everybody else here is. I post here, not to meet people, but because I believe in sharing those ideas. I believe in debate, as well as discussion with other viewpoints as a means of better understanding any number of things. You know what else? I can get very frustrated with some of these viewpoints, some are obviously uninformed, some people don't know how to read a text critically and analytically, some of them are not willing to grapple with an issue without reducing it to a simple binary system that ignores the complexities that comprise said issue to the point that they come to deceptive conclusions (liberal vs. conservitive, amazing vs. absolute trash, chirstian vs. muslim, RUBBER vs. SPANDEX). However, the great thing is that they are all just viewpoints and that's all this post will be to anybody who reads it. On Facebook, I am a person, with a room number, a phone number, a mailbox in the form of a message system (which unlike the Hype's, I use to cooridinate with my friends in the real world) and in many other ways, I am more physically connected to my Facebook account than to my nom de guerre here at the hype. A stranger who disturbs me in that setting is much more of an intereferance. They turn what is a line of communication between my friends, kids on my campus, and myself into a hassle and an often times unpleasent experience.

Here I go under a psuedonym
That's one of the things that has always been the hardest for me to get used to about the net....I am who I am. While I understand the fun of using a name that isn't your legal one (although my name is in fact C. Lee)...the idea of making a different persona to talk to other people under that name is something that is completely foriegn to me.
If you were call me on the phone and talk to me...I would be the same person as I post here.

They both have their pro and cons.
My only problem is my friends don't get on enough to effectively communicate.
Which is hard anyway because they hardly answer their phones either.

The thing I like most about facebook is that you can keep in touch with friends who are in college in different states & cities.

That's what I thought.
Cause I don't have a college email.
Why have one when I already have like 4 yahoo accounts, ready to be used for things like that.
But my friend told me it was opened for everyone and so I finally got one.
Not that I really wanted one.
But my friend uses it more than he uses his myspace.

Facebook sucks hard. It's terrible and myspace is way better. Facebook is nothing more than "highschool-reunion.com" which is so retarded cuz EVERYONE hated high school and had a terrible time. It's a part of growing up.
I find it funny that all the people who s--t talked eachother or hated people are suddenly friends on this thing and talking back and forth like old buddies.
Also it's just another way for the govenment to keep track of you and everyone you've met, went to school with, hung out with, worked with, traveled with and slept with and just about anything else you could possibly do with another person.

Facebook's problem is that its too boring looking. Its just some blank white page. With myspace you can atleast have a nice layout and some music.
I dont post anything or add everyone I know. I got a bunch of pics up and have only 14 of my friends on there. I don't add people and I deny ALOT more friend requests than I accept.
And yeah myspace let's you kinda be more yourself with being able to add your own personal touch to your page.

Actually, I hated High School, and have only the few friends I had from that time as friends on facebook, and the other 95 or so are people I've worked with or friends from college. Yeah, some people do what you're saying, but it happens just as much on MySpace as it does on facebook.
As for your government thing, MySpace is just as vulnerable to such a thing. Sure you don't put where you know certain people from directly on your site, but if someone looks at the two pages and goes "Hey, they went to the same High School", it's not hard to figure it out from there.
Not that I actually care about the debate, I'm just pointing out the holes in your argument.

I was kind of a hybrid. I would line up as the weak side linebacker, but my duties would switch based on the formation and number of reciever, drawing me into coverage alot.
I started though, and we only lost one game the year i played.
I also wrestled at 130 lb.

At least with Facebook the people you add are actually friends in one way or another. Myspace winds up being a bunch of random people adding each other just so they look like they have a large social network.
Much prefer Facebook. It's an all round cleaner design. Myspace is too messy for my liking.

Nice.
We never really ran nickle in HS...mostly becasue when I was that age, the ground game was HUGE in Nebraska. We did some stuff with a 6 man front...that was AWESOME! I played weakside tackle on offense and rush end/DT on the "D" side...looking back, I wish I had been more the shape I'm in now...I mighta made a decent fullback/linebacker.

Seriously. Some of my buddies here are basketball fiends and they'll die if they ever lose a game. Sure, it's made them train hard and get really good...but I don't even think they enjoy themselves anymore :o
Holy crap, I was just trolling the SHH facebook group...I have a bunch of people I need to friend :D
Glad I created that sucker. :D

My Psych professor was talking about that the other day....people who play professional sports, for example, usually don't even like the sport anymore, they just do it for the money and to win.

Well, it wasn't meant to be anything like Myspace....it was originally created just for college students so we could all keep in touch with our friends who went to different colleges. Then it became open to everyone, and that's when it got dumb.
Im not sayin myspace isnt without it's problems...my accounts messeges/comments has been locked since sunday so my friends and fans cant send me anything which really sucks.
And I'm not bitter about high school I just refused to meld into the fakeness of it all. I went to 2 schools the first one was very cliqe driven and was just...it was bad man...and the second one was great. Everyone got along and yuo wouldnt be surprised to see a goth and a hip hopper hanging out together helping the mentally challenged students. Both things that would have been frowned on in my first school (which is just retarded for al lkinds of reasons)
So when I speak of all the fake stuff on facebook it's about that first school I went to (and was kicked out of for not anyof the bad thigns i did but for the STUPIDEST reason)
And yeah...anyone want to add me o nmyspace...feel free I wouldn't mind at all....though my comedy may be VERY offensive so if your a sissy don't bother...and you wont be able to send me any messeges/comments for a bit as meantioned above.

I went to a pretty clique-driven high school as well and there were TONS of fake ass people there.

That's sad. My brother goes to my alma mater...he played Division III college football there for 4 years (he graduates in may) and he never started and hardly got to play (though he just got drafted by a semi-pro arena league team...so go figure) but he kept doing it because he had so much fun, and loved the game.
I think it all depends on the region/state/city/school, and even coach as to whether HS (or even college) sports are fun...
As for the SHH group...I will go on record as stating that you are a blasted GENIUS Spoons... :woot:
I really never understood it. I was pretty open mouthed about the school and the kids who went there and if I didn't like something or someone I let it be known. One time I wore my housecoat to school. Just put my boots on and left the house. this of course was deemed "odd behaviour".
And btw Spoons...I liked your other pic better.

You know what sucks about myspace, when you go on to someones page they act like you want to hear their music or something and then because so many videos and the music is loading it freezes.

I wasn't into sports really, but being the only black guy in my graduating class got me more than enough attention lol. I got a few superlatives as well haha.
College has been a bit of a let down, I probably should have gone to a bigger school. Oh well, I plan on making up for it post-graduation a.k.a this May ;D

I joined Facebook to keep in touch with my friends while I was still in college. It was fun then, and good for when I needed to invite a ton of people over, hype up parties, ect...
But it's even MORE important now, b/c all of my friends from college have either graduated and moved on (like myself) or are still in school many miles away. :(
It's my daily, weekly, or whenever way to keep in touch w/the people who truely impact my life.

No kidding, but the same could also be said for Brandon Routh (big time!) and Ben Affleck...
that IS one thing i'll give the new Punisher...Tom Jane LOOKED great as Castle...all buffed up and such. Same for Bale and Jackman in their parts...
Too bad more people in Hollywood don't take their training that seriously. :csad:

I would have preferred seeing Tom Welling...would have meant the end of smallville though....so who knows. I didnt mind Routh, but I didnt buy Bosworth. Loved Spacey though.
Excited to see if this Justice League movie gets the go ahead.

amen. I'm almost glad Reeves wasn't around to actually be there and (because he was a class act) have to praise it...:(
I wanted to cry. The only thing worth salvaging in that movie is the airplane rescue. The rest was (and I hate to say this) utter crap...it's gonna be a long time before we get a REAL Superman movie again. :csad:

Welling, or Bomer, or even (and this is a stretch) Cavill anybody but skinny ass Routh.
As for a good Lois: Rachel McAdams would have been PERFECT! Or Eve Lilly.
Spacey was perfect, he was just given a crap script to work with...:(
