How do you want them to handle Lex's hair (or lack of) ?

I think it is time to say goodbye to wigs. He should either be bald, have hair, or even become bald at a later point in the movie (accident/experiment)

I think it would be interesting if at the very beginning he had a full head of hair. Then as he is unveiling something for Lexcorp an accident occurs. Superman saves him, they show him at home as a nurse unwraps gauze around his head, showing he is now totally bald. Maybe he says something like "He thinks because he flies above us, he is above us... I will show him who has the true power in Metropolis."

That woud work too. I am just a detail oriented person and I always think of what a moviegoer might ask. I can see someone say "Why is he bald?" and it would be cool to have an explanation. Maybe fun if it connects to Superman too :)

I wonder if they will take a cue from the comics and have Lex and Clark having known each other for years, or if its when Clark first goes to Metropolis that they meet...could be interesting.

I think he should be bald from the start.

Seems to be the consensus so far, and I'm good with that. I would still find it interesting in a flashback (like GreenK stated) or if there is an event in the movie involving Supes causing/factoring in it.

you want to spend minutes in a 2 hour blockbuster where they show or even explain how or when he lost hair?

I like exposition personally. I think it would be cool if the movie did explain aspects that people in the audience question.

Maybe they can just reference it with a one liner during the movie. A reporter asks Lex "So why the bald look?" and he answers "Who needs an expensive haircut in this economy?"

It is not the most ordinary thing to see a white dude totally bald. Just a fact. People will think it, so why not either answer or reference it in someway?

Attention to detail isn't a bad thing :o

No need to defend yourself if you do want to see it explained/or referenced. Like I said, a billionaire suave white dude... People will think "Why is he bald?" naturally

^ lmao, raybia.

I think it should be bald from the beginning. And I definitely wouldn't be against the flashback idea to explain it (if it's a good explanation), although I personally don't think that it's something so important that it needs explained. Really the only way I would want to see that is if they had some fantastical reasoning behind him being bald and it ties into Clark's background, otherwise I view it as being pretty pointless.

Really?

REALLY?

I'm sorry if this sounds hostile, but if someone asks that, they not only need to be beaten with GreenKToo's 2x4, but castrated so they don't contaminate the gene pool.

Let's set something straight, Lex's baldness isn't his superpower, and it shouldn't be his main motivation to go after Superman. This isn't like not explaining how Superman came to Earth, or why Bruce Wayne is Batman, or where Hal Jordan got his nifty ring.

Yeah, I'll admit, there is an origin to Lex's baldness in the comics somewhere, but just because that exists doesn't mean the average person would question that a normal man is bald, which is a common condition among men.

I prefer Lex bald.

yea really we dont need to have much of a reason for him being bald, sure if they had a reason that is good too. But yea bald is in these days and a norm.

For those who are familiar with SupermanTAS, should that series be in large part the basis for the next movie including the characterization of Luthor and his baldness?

Obviously you don't have to explain it. I'm just saying that if you do explain it/or even just reference it, that could be a good thing detail wise. The bigger point is I don't want any solution that involves wigs again, PERIOD.

Agree on the wigs thing, man. But I really don't think this needs it's own thread. Not trying to be an as*hole dude, but this is kinda like if I would make a thread about whether Lois should have brown or black hair.

To be honest I wouldn't care if Lex wasn't bald. I mean look at Lois and Clark John Shea's Lex had a full head of hair and it never took away from who Lex Luthor was. So once again I could care less if he was bald or wasn't.

If I'm not mistaken, in MOS Lex does have hair but loses it. I'm not sure if it was Kryptonite poisoning or because of an accident. I gotta dust off the TPB and re-read it.

I'd like either bald from the start, or Lex gradually losing his hair like in Byrne's Man of Steel. I always liked that element...that Superman caused him such stress that he lost his hair.

Definitely don't want them to go the accident route.

My guess is Lex will be naturally BALDING, like in the MoS comics.

That seems to be the most realistic, less campy route.

So Lex may have some hair, but he'll be balding, like this:

Don't confuse campy with sci-fi/modern. There are creative ways to make the story more interesting.

Bald from start is fine, but it would also be of interest for some people to have a reason.

What if being bald was a choice? Like, after meeting Superman he has a psychotic moment. Hear me out before flaming... He decides to cleanse himself, which includes shaving his head. We see him wiping the towel from his head and tossing it to the floor revealing his bald look. One of his workers ask him "Are you alright?" and he answers "I'm better than alright. Consider this my rebirth. I will rule without fear, I will make this Superman- a distant memory to the public. My power as a man will not be equalled even by the likes of him."

I agree I want to see Lex go nuts and cut his hair off...or at least give us some insight into why he chooses to be bald or became bald...Lex is actually a really interesting character if you want to flesh him out...I mean hell, he can go toe to toe with SUPERMAN!

I would WANT it to be the result of Superboy saving him during the lab accident, but I know that ain't even close to happening.

Lex loses his hair after radiation leaks from his broken powersuit after a fight with Supes. Thus Superman is the reason for him being bald.

The fourth option made me laugh. This is not 78, this is 2010. Everybody knows who Lex Luthor is. His bald head is part of his iconography.

Why waste time showing how Lex became bald when you can use that valuable time progressing the plot.

In Grant Morrison's JLA series, Lex admits to shaving his own head. I think that would also be an interesting route to take. He begins losing his hair (Thank you, Superman), and just decides to shave it all off, rather than risk the balding look.

While my favourite Lex was John Shea, I still think he should be bald from the start.

Since i'm kind of hoping the movie will take a lot from TAS, it just wouldn't work if he had hair... and wigs are just so un Lex Luthor to me... they kinda show someone who is too afraid to show himself... which he just isn't.

About a MAN BEING BALD? REALLY? Let's explain why Clark has dark hair while we're at it. Or show how Lois picks out her wardrobe each day. This is not a "perfectly legit question". Anyone who asks this is an idiot. The "non fan" isn't a complete idiot, though I'm beginning to think that the "fanboy" is.
