we as a species have in alot of ways, Canada, Belgium, Netherlands, Norway, South Africa, and Spain all allow it. And a few other countries and new york recognize gay marriage even though the state/country can't preform the ceremony.
Oh ya we have, hell we elected an African-American president. I give everything another generation where they will be much more accepting.

You need to turn to God, CaptainClown, so he can rid you of your heterosexual perversions. It may feel good... but your perversions are a sin.

well... as a nation, we're a baby. and we finally just took our first big step in many decades of baby ones. Were still way behind culturally then other countries like the countries i've mentioned, plus France, England, Australia, etc... quite honestly, the only countries we seem to be "ahead" of in this day in age are of 3rd world and communist ones.

A few setbacks here and there does not change the fact that gay marriage will eventually be legalized everywhere. Time is on our side, not yours.

Homosexuality is no more perverse than heterosexuality. And actually, I'd beg to say heterosexuality is pretty perverse. Penises and vaginas don't mix, really. :o
This has to be one of the best uses of logic I have ever seen.

I think what happened last night only showed that barriers aren't forever.
Things are going to ultimately change for the good with this one, I think sooner rather than later.

The prop 8 people worked scare tactics like crazy. A lesbian teacher marries her lover. Several of her students are invited.
They turn this into a class field trip under school control.
The fault lays as much however with the lame ass opposing ads.
"Prop 8 is about discrimination!"
As if the word 'discrimination' had some magical power to make people think rationally... idjits!

The Mormon church has never made me more disgusted for the vitriolic, hurtful, and downright FALSE ads they aired during this whole fiasco... my favorite (sarcasm) was the man-man/ man-child/ mother-son/ man-group/ man-dog ad...
I should probably stop posting before I let my true feelings about the Mormon church resonate...

Oh I should expect so. If a Gay couple has their marriage legislated out of existence, who splits what was until then community property?
That's financial hurt, which is solid grounds for legal action right there.
well the prop 8 campaign is being sued due to the fact they flat out skewed the "children at a gay wedding" story completely out of proportion.
It was NOT school sanctioned, it was a private school, the students and parents were VERY close with the teacher... and only 2 parents complained, and the kids did not go. the parents who allowed there kids to go are all suing the yes campaign.

You would think that a church known to have once endorsed polygamy as a central part of its faith wouldn't have the gall to question ANY sort of sexually deviant behavior. And the fact that they included polygamy in their "slippery-slope" ad is so incredibly absurd, I don't know whether to laugh or cry at it.
This whole fiasco has pissed me off to no avail. The Mormon Church has a history of being one of the most bigoted, backwards organizations to ever exist in this country. It was the last national religious organization to allow African Americans to join its congregations. It converts dead people not connected to the church to the Mormon faith (over a thousand Jews who were killed during the Holocaust were randomly converted to Mormonism several years ago). Then you have the various LDS sects which still engage in polygamous behavior and pedophilia in the Southwest.
And let's not get into the atrocities committed by Brigham Young and Joseph Smith.
Seriously... the fact that anyone swallowed the piles of crap these idiots spewed in California has made me lose hope that this nation will one day see beyond organized ignorance...

That's funny you talk about equality but you bash Mormonism and say that it has no use in the US. So in a way you are like the yes campaign for prop 8
Um, Mormonism is an absolutely false religion invented by some crackpot who desired nothing but eternal fame. I used to live where Joseph Smith found his magical tablets; no religious deity would have ever set foot in Upstate New York, let alone left the fate of mankind hidden in its vacant wilderness.
I don't see how it is any different from Scientology, which people can apparently bash all they want to here and everywhere else.

Because a bad proposition never dies, tonight protesters will take over West Hollywood, chanting and walking and stomping (and maybe sashaying), in protest of the passage of Prop 8, which banned gay marriage. "San Vicente Blvd, between Santa Monica Blvd and Melrose Avenue will be closed tonight starting at 6 pm. San Vicente south-bound traffic will be directed to make left or right at Santa Monica Blvd. Signs have already been posted to help divert traffic." [Curbed Inbox/Yelp] Update: Here's the headline of a press release just released by the Mayor's office: MAYOR VILLARAIGOSA ASKS CITY ATTORNEY TO CHALLENGE PROPOSITION 8. Excerpt from release: "In June 2008, the City of Los Angeles officially took a legislative position to oppose Proposition 8 (CF 08-0002-S88). We must take immediate action to protect Los Angeles residents whose lives and freedoms are threatened by consequences from the possible implementation of Proposition 8. I therefore request that the City Attorney evaluate the City’s legal options regarding challenging the validity of Proposition 8. I also request that the City Attorney undertake the necessary preparations to file a legal challenge to Proposition 8 should the measure officially pass."

I don't think that they're strict. I know that Aaron was raised as a Mormon, but I don't think he's practicing it still.
I've got a friend who personally knows the Aqua Bats, and they're not bad. They just don't drink.
The Osmonds...I think they're strict but I could be wrong.
Jared Hess, I think he's laid back.
hey, all im saying is if there like "true" mormons.. there not worth ones time... if there very watered down mormons then awesome, as long as they respect gay rights

You know whats ridiculous is what a hypocrite you are. You ask for equality so that you may marry whoever you want, but you contradict your self by bashing and calling Mormonism ridiculous.

I'll bash anyone who practices HATE. I don't hate mormons, i may hate there beliefs, but i do not hate them, and would never want there rights to be taken away. Are they bigoted douche bags? yes... but i truly believe people are allowed to do what they want as long as they don't effect others, and it's ridiculous to think gay marriage affects anyone but the couple.

Hundreds Protest Passage Of Prop. 8 In WeHo
WEST HOLLYWOOD, Calif. (AP) ― More than 1,000 people who turned up for a rally against the California's newly approved same-sex marriage ban took to the streets of Los Angeles and West Hollywood and blocked traffic.
Los Angeles police officer Jason Lee says "the overall indication is that the demonstrators and marchers are peaceful" in the Wednesday night protest against Proposition 8, but says at least four people have been detained.
Television cameras showed one protester jumping on top of a police car at the intersection of Hollywood and Highland.
He was quickly wrestled to the ground by police and handcuffed.
The rally broke into several separate groups as midnight approached hours after the marching began, and protesters were still walking amid traffic on Santa Monica and San Vicente Boulevards in West Hollywood.

tech 2... one on a police car, and one getting beaten...
this could easily get extremely aggressive within the next few days. and part of me hopes it does... sometimes aggression needs to happen in order for people to see the error of there ways.
the protesting tomorrow should be very interesting.

People have no right to tell us we can't get married. It's unConstitutional and un-American. We've been putting up with being treated as legal second-class citizens for centuries, exactly how long do they expect us to put up with it?

Um, Mormonism is an absolutely false religion invented by some crackpot who desired nothing but eternal fame. I used to live where Joseph Smith found his magical tablets; no religious deity would have ever set foot in Upstate New York, let alone left the fate of mankind hidden in its vacant wilderness.
I don't see how it is any different from Scientology, which people can apparently bash all they want to here and everywhere else.
Haha -- Wilhelm, is that you in disguise?
Here's the thing about Mormons. Yes, they believe in some weird stuff, their church was originally founded by a shady character and they are painfully conservative (for the most part, not all).
But - the LDS church today is not like the Church of Scientology. Mormons recruit of course, but it doesn't cost anything to find out about what Mormons believe or to go to their church. The Church of Scientology pretends to be "scientific" to lure those who aren't religious, while simultaneously playing up the religion angle to get tax breaks and appeal to the spiritual recruits. Plus, the Church of Scientology actively persecutes ex-members and hires private investigators to harass its critics. Mormons don't do that (nor do Jehovah's Witnesses, Seventh-Day Adventists or the other non-mainstream Christian sects).
I realize that the pro-gay marriage crowd is really mad at the Mormons right now for being so vigorous in their support of Prop 8, but try to keep it in perspective. The Mormons for the most part are just another conservative Christian group, and they predictably behaved like one. It was unfortunate that they went that route, because normally the LDS church is pretty laid back during election years and just tells members to "vote their conscience".
Since Mormons believe that it's better to get married in a Mormon temple anyway, I don't see why they made such a big deal about what goes on in the world of "earthly marriages". The bad PR is going to hurt them.
