View Full Version : Give Robin Williams a role

I'm a big fan of Robin.

I felt the way he was treat during the Joker process in B89 was appalling.

He is a terrific actor and I would be ecstatic if he played a role in Batman 3.

So if you're like me and want to show support for Robin, then lets do so.:yay:

Robin has good stand-up (some of which is supposedly stolen material) and he's good in SOME roles but Batman is not an area he belongs in. I just could not see him now or ever in a Batman role unless it's along the lines of the campy 60s series. And frankly Nicholson was a perfect 89 Joker, Robin would have brought too much camp to Burton's gothic setting.

Just my 2 cents.

I recently watched Insomnia again, and he is great in that, but he fits a very specific mold that wouldn't really work for Riddler. I could see him as a doctor at Arkham or some other small role though. Definitely not a main villian.

Robin williams for the penguin!

Squidboy

I could see him being Scarface/Ventriloquist in a small role, but he probably wouldn't settle for anything less than being a main villain

He said he would play anything if offered, but he should definitely be Penguin,IMO.

Maybe the fact that his name is Robin means that he'll be playing the [Man] Wonder?! :p

I don't see why the way producers treated him back in 1989 should mean a role for him now.

Buty yes, he's a very good actor and has worked with Nolan before, so why not?

I don't picture him as Riddler, but he could easily play a smaller, much more low-key character. Maybe something like Rupert Thorne or even Penguin, functioning in the story similar to how Falcone and Maroni did in the previous two films.

I wouldn't of had things different, but it was shocking.

WB: Jack, do you want play the Joker?
Jack: Let me think on it.

WB: Robin, would you like to play the Joker in Batman?
Robin: I would love too.
WB: We'll get back to you.

WB: Jack,we've asked Robin Williams to play the Joker and he said yes,but its really you who we want. So if you dont want the role,it can go to him.
Jack: Fine I'll do it,and you did say I could name my price?

I ****ing say yes, it's long due, he used as a bait to get Nicholson as The Joker then again used in 1994 When Schumacher wanted Carrey as The Riddler. He's also big fan of Batman and he's a great actor why not give him a role here?

Terrific suggestions in here. Riddler, Rubert Thorne, Ventriloquist, Calendar Man, or even Hugo Strange.

He could play any of these roles. He's a bit too tall for the Penguin though lol

anyone who thinks that Williams will add too much comedy and camp to batman doesn't know anything about Williams. Watch Insomnia, watch 1 Hour Photo or whatever that creepy movie was. Williams can act in more than just comedy, and I don't mean in that awful Jim Carey token "I have to do something besides comedy to show people I'm trying" type of way. The dude can seriously act.

the problem is, people will refuse to see it that way. It would hurt box office, especially since Williams isn't the big hit he used to be. I'd like to see them disguise Williams as a crime lord maybe. Who knows though, I think they missed the boat.

Rodrigo90

I think that could be possible. He starred in Dick Tracy,so he isn't shy to star in a comic book movie. But Batman is a higher calibre than to be considered a CBM. I could see Al in it.

I can see him as Hugo Strange. But not Riddler. I wouldn't have minded him for that role back in his Mork and Mindy days, but I think he's too old now. The last thing I pictured Riddler is an almost 60 year old man and slightly overweight.

There are so many Batman characters I could easily see Williams as. Even in the Nolanverse.

Just off the top off my head:

Dr. Death

Killer Moth
Black Mask
Firefly
Deadshot

and for a none villain, Harvey Bullock.

He can definitely do dark roles, but I'm not sure if I'd want him as a main villain. Guess it would depend on the villain in question and what Nolan's vision for that villain is, though. But I'd prefer to see him in a smaller role. I do think he deserves to be in a Batman movie, though, after the way WB teased him with the Joker in '89 and then with Riddler in Forever.

This reminds me a bit of Nostalgia Critic's opening comments during his Flubber review - watch that for details.

That said, though, while I can't see him pulling off a leading role, I can see him at least getting a brief cameo, the upcoming re-reboot would make that possible.

seriously... i know its a cliche choice by now but he genuinely looks the part if you follow a certain artistic style of Nygma from the books. Robin has that quality as well where he can be overly maniacal and comedic, slightly comedic or very dramatic.

The man is a great actor who can do the extremes of both comedy and drama. Just watch "1 hour photo" or "Insomnia" and for the comedy "Mork and Mindy"

"Awakenings" One of his best, IMO

"Dead Poets Society" Comedy and drama in there
"Bicentennial Man" One of my favourites
"Patch Adams"
"The Birdcage"

It's unlikely & very doubtful, since he's out of shape & considerably older now for that part. If they were to offer Williams a part, in my opinion it'd have to be a secondary role. Jim Carrey can still do The Riddler part, but that "window" is closing rapidly. However, I doubt Nolan will consider him.

I'd say yes.
Williams has shown in films like 'One Hour Photo' and especially 'Insomnia' that he is capable of tapping into a surprisingly dark side of his personality, and playing characters that are psychotic and at times even truly evil.
For who he could play in a Batman film (Assuming he could get to that dark place again), I'd say Hugo Strange. There have been a couple really good fan trailers made with him as Strange, and with many of the 'Arkham City' interview tapes (Especially the ones for Two- Face) I could almost imagine Williams delivering Strange's lines.
I'd love to see him in that role.

Zgirl33
06-25-2012, 01:04 PM
It depeneds on what character he'd play.

I don't want to see his schtick being used for the Riddler. I think it's a bit tired.
He could probably pull off a Penguin, or Mad hatter.

Ultimately though, I'd prefer not to see him in the films.

Aggressive Sock
06-29-2012, 02:02 AM
It would have been cool to have him in a minor role. Such as a doctor or Joker henchmen or something. Something small, but more than just a simple background character with no dialogue.

If there was ever a time to do it, it would have been in the Nolan trilogy. It's apparent Nolan likes to use the same actors in multiple of his films, so with Willaims playing a main role in Insomnia, since Robin is so vocal over his Batman fandom and desire to play a role, you would have thought Nolan could find something for him.
