View Full Version : Batgirl/Barbara Gordon casting

If the next Batman movie is in fact going to be Year:One, I do think they should include Barbara Gordon within the film and eventually make Year:Three sort of like Batgirl's introduction (and a proper not some feeble Batman and Robin nonsense! )

It would be intresting to explore Babs' fascination with Batman and how it was first sparked when he first arrived in Gotham.

Idealistically Babs charecter is someone 16-20 years old so any actress between 17-25 could pull off the role

I think Jordana Brewster is a good choice. Although, how good would she look with red hair? Ashley Scott would have been a good choice, had she not been Huntress.

How about someone who looks about 17-19 and is a good actress, who might take a smaller role if she happened to be a fan? Natalie Portman.

Natalie Portman is a consideration, but after Star Wars she probably like "Small role my A**!!!, I had to put up with for one stupid trilogy, I want my shine in all the movies now!!"

well...maybe not:D :p

Out of the people on the list Katie Holmes and Jessica Biel would get my vote.

Sarah Michelle Gellar would probably make the best looking Batgirl because for all intents and purposes her big eyes, small chin and round face looks exactly like the animated cartoon character. However I do like Eliza Dushku.

:batman: Well, at least you didn't bring in a fat blond. But, i didn't care for any of the options.
Ashley scott is actually the best I saw, but, isn't really a choice at all. Jessica Beil??! I think not.

My selections would be:
Jewel Staite (Space Cases, Flash Foward, & Firefly)

Elisha Cuthbert(24)

Sarah Polley (Road To Avonlea-but she might not do it)

Lacey Chabert (Party Of Five, Lost In Space-she's also just 19)

Laura Bertram (Ready Or Not, Andromeda)

Winona Ryder (the post Batgirl-Babs Gordon, aka Oracle)

Scarlett Pomers (Star Trek: Voyager, Reba)

Let me know what you think!!

I am a ginormous dork and I casted most of the DCU, and I have Eliza Dushku as the Huntress (She's shown she can be mean and feisty and also incredibly hot) and Keira Knightley for Barbara Gordon. I haven't seen anything without her accent though. Has anybody? If she can't sound like an American that probably wouldn't work.

And yes, Elisha Cuthbert is very hot, but she is rapidly becoming the female equivalent of Johnny Depp on this site.

Well, seeing this thread is from the first of 2003, when nobody really knew the roles or casting of the movie... it has something to do with it...

I would like to see Barbara Gordon in a sequel to this movie, I like the idea of Batgirl alot better than Robin, I think it would be cool if Barbara Gordon had a bit role in this movie to introduce her character and then became Batgirl and eventually Oracle in the sequels... I think that would be cool. Know that this is a prequel I and considering Nolan's other casting choices if Barbara Gordon's character was ever used I would say he would cast a lesser known but young up-and-comer...

like maybe Emmy Rossum, who starred in Mystic River and the upcoming The Day After Tomorrow and Phantom of the Opera
http://us.ent4.yimg.com/movies.yahoo.com/images/hv/photo/movie_pix/warner_brothers/phantom_of_the_opera/_group_photos/emmy_rossum1.jpg

or maybe a TV star...
like Brittany Snow from American Dreams

or somebody from the WB like Gilmore Girls Alexis Bledel or Everwood's Emily Vancamp...

I think it would be a cool shout-out to the fans to see her as a kid, (God knows I love it when they do that kind of stuff on Smallville), but Oracle happens way farther down the line than a trilogy could cover, and Oracle isn't really all that close to Bats.

Aptman
04-13-2004, 08:21 PM
I think that if you aren't even going to have Robin in a movie, then Batgirl shouldn't even be considered.
Robin is more important to the Batman legend than Batgirl, not saying Robin even needs to be in a Batman movie...eventhough I would like Dick Grayson to appear...Year Three, only make him in a Family of Stunt men or somthing...

With the type of cast Chris Nolan has chosen the only actress to play Batgirl would be Scarlett Johansson in my book, she is perfect for the role. Read more about her here

She's only 19, younger than most the girls in the poll above.

Click on the IMDB link to find out more.

I actually wish she was in BB instead of Katie Holmes as I don't think much of Katie as an actress. Guess I will have to wait and see. Prove me wrong Katie, do it, do it.

Whoa, I cant believe she is just 19, she looks very mature... that's way too young for Bill Murray... Im glad Katie Holmes is in this movie, she can act. You should see 'Pieces of April'. Actually I watched both Lost in Translation and Pieces... just a few days ago. Both pretty good movies, but I didnt like the part in LIT where he whispered in her ear... Well, if this poll had been done a year ago, Lindsay Lohan would probably be the clear winner. But her blonde dye job (though I think she may have recently gone back to red) and dramatic weight loss...yeah. That's why I'm suggesting Keira Knightley for Batgirl. She's a great actress and has established herself as an action star (even if Domino was horrible). She's not a redhead, but she could still do the part, and she's 20, which I think is the perfect age.

lindsay lohan.

Katsuro
10-28-2005, 07:16 AM
lindsay lohan can't act for crap. She's decent looking, but a horrible actress. I can't see her being taken seriously in a role like Babs Gordon.

The thing we're all forgetting is that there's still a LONG way to go until Babs is introduced on film, if ever. Let's be optimistic though, and look at when's the earliest Babs could be introduced. Batman Begins in 2005, and the second in 2008. The second is far too early for Robin or Batgirl. so then we have the third, and hoping that they're filmed back to back, we may get it in 2009 (being optimistic again). Maybe robin could be brought in at the end of the third film. Then let's say we have about 3 years (2012) until the 4th film, which is definatly the earliest Batgirl could be introduced. So that's 7 years until we see Batgirl, who if i'm not mistaken is a teenager during her introduction. So anyone over the age of 11 or 12 can't be a real contender for Batgirl. in other words, Dakota Fanning, who plays every little girl in every movie, will be Batgirl. I mean no disrespect, Dakota Fanning is a great actress, but she is so overexposed it's disgusting.

GL1

Foolishness.

Barbara Gordon is at least ten years Bruce's junior. Casting eye candy that are Bale's age is crazy. You should be casting a teenager.

Also Foolishness.

Barbara Gordon was not born Batgirl. You can have Barbara Gordon in a movie WITHOUT havnig Batgirl. Again, you can have Barbara Gordon in a movie WITHOUT having Batgirl. And one more time, so it sounds like overkill when I quote myself: You can have Barbara Gordon in a movie WITHOUT having Batgirl.

It can be too early for Batgirl, but it's never "too early" to further humanize Jim Gordon with neice Barbara.

As for the topic, I would cast Hayden Panettiere, she's capable enough to play Barbara as a memorable supporting cast member and not need to be 'Batgirl' to be good addition to the cast. And she looks good with reddish hair. And her filmography is longer than Katie Holmes'. And she's 16.

And I love Rachel Leigh Cook, but she's no Gordon's neice.

You can Introduce Barbara Gordon in the Begins sequel as a cameo or small support role... thus some of the actresses won't be too old...

To introduce Batgirl, well, that takes a more developed Batman/franchise/Gordon and most, if not all of these actreses would be too old...

Okay, well a Barbara Gordon cameo is a totally different creature than having her as a character. I'd like to introduce her as a character even if she doesn't turn into Batgirl. I advocate her going straight to being Oracle. In which case we still have to watch her age.

Again, that depends on how many films we're going to get. I think she should be at least 10 years younger that Bruce, though.

No, that's James Gordon Jr., Gordon's son with his first wife, Barbara Gordon.

Babs was his neice that lived in Chicago that he adopted, and later found out was his biological daughter (he had an affair with his brother's wife, Babs's mother).

I think it'd be cool to have a cameo by Babs Gordon in the sequel. Perhaps we could have a scene with Harvey Dent and Gordon at Gordon's house, to discuss a case or something, and Babs is visiting from Chicago or something and we just see a red-headed girl in the background or something.

I would love it if WB would release something for us to talk about. Or at least tell us who's playing the Joker, so discussion about that can end. The Batman boards are getting stale with pretty much nothing but Joker talk.

But that's the hot role right now, so the speculation is what gotta run with

But I remember when there was ZERO certainty on what exactly the next batman movie was gonna be (when this thread was orginally made) and we had a lot of topics to talk about.

Get creative guys! lol

Mary Elizabeth Winstead
Sky High

Royal Pain (Winstead) herself has ties to two famous characters, the first being Fantastic Four villain Dr. Doom. She is a genius who was spurned for more favorable contemporaries and used her technical genius to extract revenge. However her suit resembles Marvel’s Iron Man. It flies, grants her enhanced strength, and has a variety of electronic weapons. There is also an homage to the Predator when she activates her final weapon and sends Sky High plummeting to the ground. A device on her gauntlet opens up, and several strange symbols are visible as it is triggered. Her costume also brings to mind the costumes used in Saban shows such as Power Rangers, Big Bad Beetleborgs and Masked Rider.

The adopted secret identity of Royal Pain is Gwen Grayson. This is a reference both to Gwen Stacy (Spider-Man's girlfriend, killed in Amazing Spider-Man #121 in 1973 by the Green Goblin and recently revived for the Ultimates series published by Marvel Comics) and Dick Grayson, or Richard John Grayson, the first Robin, who debuted in July 1940.

The problem with all of those choices is that while they are all perfect right now - they will not be perfect in 4-6 years when Barbara would be introduced at the earliest.

This is all hypothetical. Besdies, they're young:

Scarlett's 21
Keira's 20
Natalie and Elisha are 24
Emmy's 20
Bryce is 24
Anne's 24.

I don't want Barbara to be too young. For me, mid to late 20s' is the ideal age range for Barbara. That would make her a believable sidekick and also leave a respectable age range between her and Bruce.

I once suggested Rachael Leigh Cook. I'm not sure why, there's just something about her. I didn't realise she was the voice of a character in Batman Beyond, which means she already has the Batman connection! She seems to have a young look to her as well, despite being 27.

I'll never understand why we don't want teenage characters to be teenage characters. Especially next to a young Batman, we saw how bad the dynamic is ruined when Batman is the same age as his protoges in Batman and Robin.

Furthermore, we saw what Bruce had to go through to even be a half-decent Batman (and even Batman Year One from the comics would whoop his tail easily). Theres no way a competely untrained teen girl can suddenly up and put on a suit and do anything but be dead weight. Batgirl is out, so far out it's not even funny.

That said, Barbara would be a supporting character, UNDER Commissioner Gordon, so how the heck is she gonna be mid twenties when Gordon's only in his thirties himself? This is not Batman from the present day comics, this is Batman in his very first year of existance. There's no way Barbara Gordon should be anything but a teenage girl and perhaps a computer nerd... Danielle Panabaker is a good choice in light of this...

if, these movies are to ever have a batgirl or even just a Barbara cameo, she would have to be young, and i don't mean a 20 something playing a teenager, young, I mean a teenage, find one who can act. (normally I don't like this cause if there that young I can’t really check them out, lol and really isn't batgirl just eye candy, but, if theres a cameo or her, we need a teenage)
