UPDATED 7/14/10:
- A really annoying-seeming character named "Nancie" who has a son is in this episode. She comes to work at the Daily Planet, and she seems to be filling in while Lois is... where? We don't know. At one point she listens on the radio to someone named "Godfrey," which could be a reference to Glorious Godfrey of Darkseid lore.

What? a 6.3% chance Marvel will let DC use their S.H.I.E.L.D. characters? lol thats way to high!
couple more spoilers...
A really annoying-seeming character named "Nancie" who has a son is in this episode. She comes to work at the Daily Planet, and she seems to be filling in while Lois is... where? We don't know. At one point she listens on the radio (http://www.kryptonsite.com/smallvillespoilers.htm#) to someone named "Godfrey," which could be a reference to Glorious Godfrey of Darkseid lore. The radio "Godfrey" has a thing against "the hero menace," much like he did in the 1980's Legends comic book series.
- A character from the comics who works at the Daily Planet and at one point had a young son is Cat Grant. Could "Nancie" be a "Cassie/Zatanna, Melissa/Maxima" like diversion?
- The episode also includes a modern day cowboy named Liam who's gunning after Clark Kent - and a woman with the ability to teleport.
Hmmm if Cat Grant is coming back, doesn't that mean they need to get the same woman who played her in "Crossfire"?
Cowboy Liam = Vigilante
Lady who teleports = Lady with a BoomTube device

The Cowboy Liam part seems like they're just throwing out fake spoilers to throw us off.
Yeah probably but knowing Smallville he will end up have 2 lines in the whole episode. Or he could be Lobo...

cool title for the second episode. Cant wait to see where this goes. Also interesting they may be bringing in that godfrey character, also that hawkman is returning. Now if we are actually seeing hawkgirl man i really would love if they have lexi domig(spelling) play her. I know folks made a comment about it last season and even shanks did to saying his wife for role or saying he wouldnt want her to do it or what not. But i think it would be nice.

Didn't see this posted here yet so ....
UPDATED 7/22/10: EW's Ausiello has confirmed that "Nancie" is indeed Cat Grant. Though we can't confirm it, a blonde is either close to or has already gotten the role...
- Apparently the "Liam" character is also a code for someone else. By the way, he's not a cowboy, just acts like one - and he has a bullet with Clark's name written on it.

He may be one of Darkseids's lackeys.
DavidB1111
07-24-2010, 03:18 AM
No, not a Darkseid lackey. This is without a doubt Terra-Man!
Terra-Man is coming to Smallville! I am so happy! Sure, he's really silly, but I always wanted Smallville to have him on.
He writes the names of people on his bullets! :) Or he writes it on the casing, the holder? I can't remember.
Or, depending on the comic something along those lines. Maybe they home in...It's been awhile since I read his comic appearances. Anyone want to donate the entire Bronze Age to me? :)
he's not a cowboy, just acts like one - and he has a bullet with Clark's name written on it.It's without a doubt Terra-Man from that line alone.
And he's magic and technology based. Somewhat, anyway. Futuristic weapons aren't supposed to bother Superman to the point of harming him unless they are so far advanced they are indistinguishable from Magic (or built out of Kryptonian metal) :)...even Bronze Age Superman.
I could be mistaken. Bronze Age was when they were starting to make him weaker and weaker.
Here's the Wiki. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Terra-Man
The Pre-1985 Terra-Man is noted for using futuristic weapons modeled after those used in the American Old West (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_Old_West), as well as riding a winged horse (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Horse). It was revealed, in Superman #249, that Manning had in fact been born during the Old West era. After killing Toby's father, an alien (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fictional_extraterrestrials) took young Toby as his ward, raising him from childhood and teaching him the use of alien weapons, which he created in imitation of the 19th century weapons Toby was familiar with. After Manning had grown to adulthood and learned what he could, he killed the alien and began a career as an interstellar outlaw, "Terra-Man" (a name chosen to refer to Manning's Earthly origins). Eventually his travels took him to Earth, where he became an enemy of Superman. Throughout his pre-Crisis career, Terra-Man usually returned to Earth only in efforts to outfight or outwit Superman; otherwise he remained at large in outer space, committing crimes to carry the legend of the Wild West outlaw across the stars. Terra-Man spoke in an almost buffoonishly stereotypical "cowboy" drawl with liberal use of Old West slang and colloquialisms, lending a humorous air to his deadly activities.Yeah, that's him alright. And they're going Pre-Crisis again.
Maybe Smallville is going to end up with Silver Age/Bronze Age Superman after all...Poor Darkseid, he doesn't have a chance against Silver Age Superman. :)
"Please stop etching your name in Neutron stars with your fingernails, Superman." :)

UPDATED 7/25/10: Lois has a scene in the desert with Carter Hall where she learns some things that makes her better understand the recent changes in her life.
- Cat Grant will indeed be played by Keri Lynn Pratt.

I mentioned this earlier in the CC thread, but i'll just repost it here:
Judging from the trailer and some spoilers we had, I believe the second episode involves Lois looking for Hawkman/Carter Hall and that would tie into the whole relationship stuff between Lois and Clark since it was hinted that Hawkgirl might make an appearance and because it sounds like Lois has a V.O. talking about relationships being about sacrifice and stuff. Maybe that is when she tells Clark they need to talk because she finds the suit. I also think she calls him Superman before Kara is called Supergirl.

She's a 'meh' choice for Cat Grant.
Cat is hot. She's drop dead over-the-top sexed up. Emilie Ullerup fits that.
Keri is... meh. Averge-looking. Though I'm sure they intentionally picked someone less attractive than Durance so certain fans wouldn't get incredibly upset that Clark is paired with another female temporarily.
Believe me, they would -_-

She seems hot enough to me. I'm gonna judge her after I see what the character is about. Cat is really over the top in the comics, if they still keep in mind what Cat was like the last time we saw her, there should be some transition to how she starts acting eventually. That would be neat to see.

Great, A batman family enemy (Who joined the Suicide Squad) on Smallville. That's all we need. Why would they do that? Unless Deadshot has some sort of Bulls-eye accuracy or Deadpool like abilities, he's going to last about 1/600 of a second against Superman. :)
Seriously, Terra-Man would have made more sense, and that says something.
Gah, Lobo using guns would make more sense....
Man of Tomorrow
07-26-2010, 12:08 PM
Deadshot is Green Arrow's arch nemesis.
That's why it makes sense on Smallville.
There's also a romantic thing between him and Plastique in "Task Force X," but since I hate SV's casting of Plastique, I couldn't care less about that.
Deadshot is great though. If they ever make a GA movie, he should be the villain.
DavidB1111
07-26-2010, 12:24 PM
Oh, well, I skimmed the Wiki article, and it mentioned his debut in the Batman comics. So, I must say, him being a Green Arrow enemy is a bit odd.
Fine, if they want to bring him on. Go ahead. I just thought they'd do more Superman villains, owing it is about him. :)

07-26-2010, 09:23 PM
Well, Sliders was canceled mid season 5, letting everything go hanging. :(
Because of bad ratings.
If the ratings get too bad, the CW would have no choice but to kill the show in the middle of the season, only if it got so bad they would gain money from canceling it. It has happened before. Sliders is but one example.
Then again, I'm not a TV network executive, like Morgan Edge in the Bronze Age. :)
SpideyVille
07-26-2010, 09:25 PM
They couldn't possibly cancel a show about Superman before he becomes Superman while he's on the verge of becoming Superman ..... can they?
KalKai

There's no chance of that happening, not even the slightest.
DavidB1111
07-26-2010, 09:30 PM
I don't know...I hope not.
Except that they can't delay him fulfilling his destiny too long, or the fan viewership will drop at a geometric rate.
They really, really need to go all out this season. I mean, they should. It's going to have to be all kinds of awesomeness this season. Never a dull moment. :)
Bring more Superman villains and allies ,and not people unrelated to him, like Deadshot.
That's is their only way to make this season blow all others out of the water.
Non-stop surprises would help too.
I'm sorry, KalKal, but yes, it could happen, because if they do enough boneheaded mistakes this season, the fans will break from the show.
It's not likely, but this is the same show that can't keep physics straight between episodes, let alone their plotlines. :) "Why yes, somehow I magically knew Chloe made those weapon depots before you told me, Clark." "Oh, that explains it, Zod."
Also, the over 9000 (Yes, I know) Kandorians in Pandora. Need I explain that? :) That was a bad one in the history of the show's plotholes.
SpideyVille
07-26-2010, 09:36 PM
That's one thing I'm worried about though. I mean yea it's great that they know it's the last season and they want to throw in as much in there as they can to please the fans and line up with the mythos and everything, but i hope it doesn't become something that bites them in the butt at the end, where we have a season filled with guest appearances that make no sense and pieces that are forced to fit in together in order to give the viewers a sense of finality. I know the producers are going to try as hard as they can to please the fans, but i hope they just don't go over the top with it all.

KalKal, good point as well, I suppose... :)
I just, for the season to be near perfect, there's going to have to be an extremely small amount of stupid ideas. :)
Can this show, Smallville, have a lack of stupid ideas?
I hope they can get a good run for the last 22 episodes.
Action is one thing, they have to do the characters perfect this time. No more Chloe being the hero of the story, no more crazy plot holes, etc. "Vegeta, what does the scouter say about the plothole levels..." Etc.
They have to go, and be the one thing most shows strive for, to be legendary.
So, I ask you, KalKal, and I keep wanting to call you Cao Cao for some reason, my apologies, do you think Smallville can do that?

Wow. How could anyone think they would cancel the show mid-season? Really? I saw Sliders being used as an example. Really? A SyFy channel show compared to a CW flagship show? Come on now. Smallville isn't wowing with the ratings as it is since moving to Fridays and it still got a tenth season. Can we please stop the madness and get back on topic?

Sorry! I apologize!
I'm bad at getting my point across some times.
I'm certain this show will end most totally excellently dude, (Bill and Ted mode deactivated) and I love the show, but to me, a good season 10 means that they can't afford screw ups...now I know everyone on this forum had discussed Season 9's plot holes enough. :) So, I'll end that line too.
After I wonder out loud how Tess learned about Kryptonite...
Also, it has to be said, Madness? No, this is Sparta!
Also, Sci-Fi got Sliders a long time ago, from Fox. But good point.

Kalkai, (sorry about the i/l thing) I trust the showrunners here about as much I could throw them. :)
They've long since lost respect in my eyes for the rather huge amount of problems they've caused...getting them to fix their problems is as likely as dividing by zero. :)
But, I still think this season will go well. I just want a bit more logical consistency on it though, and less plot holes, and less physics fails. Liquid Nitrogen doesn't work that way!
And besides Deadshot, what suicide Squad?
The Caped Knight
07-27-2010, 07:49 AM
And besides Deadshot, what suicide Squad?
The Suicide Squad or Task Force X is an organizations that government employs a group of super villains to perform missions that are they consider to be suicide runs that either the whole team or a teammate won't come back from.
In fact in the animated Justice League series their was an episode totally devoted to them entitled Task Force X (http://www.worldsfinestonline.com/WF/jlu/episodes/taskforcex/)

Also since we know we will see clark wearing red/blue again by this episode. Whats everyone bet on how look will be? current blur outfit just red/blue, a slightly different prototype look,etc......
SpideyVille
07-27-2010, 12:04 PM
Yea and the producers said we would see Waller again in some form, so maybe Checkmate will be up and running again. I kinda didn't like how it was introduced and scrapped so quickly. It was more like a mini arc that started halfway into the season.
As for a costume, the title alone is intriguing. It could be a reference to a costume change or color change, or it could just be regarding something else. Yet given the few spoilers that we know so far, it could very well be implying something with the Superman shield.
By the Way K-Site has reported that Plastique will be returning for this episode.
UPDATED 7/26/10: TVGuide.com has revealed that Jessica Parker Kennedy will be returning in this episode as Plastique. Incidentally, the character that was originally planned to come in with the ability to teleport was supposed to be Nightshade of the Suicide Squad. yea should be fun.
Now Plastique was part of Tess's Suicide Squad, so shes working with Waller now I guess, and got better teammates this time around in Nightshade in Rick Flagg in Deadshot

I hated SV's Plastique so I wouldn't mind if they used the real Nightshade instead.
I find it interesting Oliver is joining the Suicide Squad. That would mean he's leaving Clark and Chloe's team.
I'm guessing there may be a falling out, probably over what fate has in store for Chloe.

According to this interview with Brian Peterson, Clark will indeed wear something more colorful in episode 2, and he will be "stepping more into the light" instead of hiding in the shadows. It may not be the actual costume, but it is still a step in that direction.

I think it would be fitting for Clark's character to feel too embarrassed to wear the suit in public. He's been overly vocal, mostly with Oliver, about not liking tights or capes, so for the time being I wouldn't be too surprised if he tries to stay away from wearing the actual suit.

That's what I think too. And frankly, if Clark should listen to anyone about wearing the costume, it should be Lois, especially since she's already seen it. Sure beats those theories about Chloe's death pushing him to become Superman in her honor/memory.

I hope they explain Justin's interview with Craig where he says Oliver is searching for Chloe.
Uh, what? Oliver was the one to disappear. When Parademons kidnap you, they make the actor who plays you confused. :)
Chloe is still there.
Unless Dr. Fate's helmet transports her to somewhere else on the Earth, possibly in a different time period. Hey, I can hope...:)
Is there anything Nabu can't do?
As for Oliver, why would Checkmate ask him to join after last season. That's kind of like asking Darkseid to join the Suicide Squad. I.e Really stupid
No, really, are they running out of ideas already? :(
Also, I didn't really know that much about Checkmate until I learned they were coming to Smallville.
I fully believe in not making things absurdly complicated. And bringing in Checkmate, which wasn't run by Amanda Waller until after Lex Luthor became president, complicates things...
This is also one reason why Intergang ideas should stay over 9000 miles away from the Smallville's writers room. That and what's the big deal about them?
Also, Kal-El 8, I know about the Suicide Squad, but I didn't know they were coming back to Smallville again.

Zod wouldn't let anyone in that building leave alive, because he's not retarded. :)
I don't know, I think bringing on Checkmate served to complicate things.

http://www.payvand.com/news/08/may/Sahar-Biniaz.jpg
Sahar Biniaz has landed the role of Carter Hall's long-lost love Shayera in the episode "Shield." We don't know if we'll see her Hawkgirl-like alter ego yet or not. If the name or the actress is slightly familiar there's a reason for that - not only has she appeared in the Sam Jones III-Alan Ritchson series Blue Mountain State, but she's also had small roles in three episodes of Smallville before... in "Fierce," "Identity," and "Crossfire." She was also a "Foreign Newscaster" in Watchmen.
http://media.comicvine.com/uploads/3/31467/902593-deadshot_large.jpg
Playing the role of Floyd Lawton, better known to most as the Suicide Squad character "Deadshot," is Bradley Stryker. Stryker recently did three episodes of Stargate: SGU and was the first actor to play Ryan's older brother Trey Atwood on The O.C.

Isn't Hawkman's wife supposed to be Sheira, and Shayera a totally different character? Why do they keep mentioning Shayera, I really hope they haven't gotten their characters mixed up, DC would correct that, wouldn't they?
I thought they were the same, but it seems like your right.
Sheira (Hawkgirl) is the wife of Carter Hall.
Shayera (Hawkwoman) is the wife of Katar Hol.

The only thing I remember in Mortal is Clark beating down Lex at the end, and then walking away after he got punched, then Clana sex to the theme of Coldplay. He demands access. You clearly haven't seen what he said, even though later on he admitted in taking it too far and deleted a tweet or two:
kryptonsite @MattMitovich Is there any specific reason The CW sends you OD's early aside from giving you a chance to feed your own ego with bragging?

An assassin named Deadshot (guest star Bradley Stryker (http://www.kryptonsite.com/shielddescription.htm#)) takes aim at Cat but Clark learns the man has a dangerous hidden agenda that involves The Blur (http://www.kryptonsite.com/shielddescription.htm#). I'm guessing he changes colors early on because i don't recall him wearing a red shirt at all last season. I guess he's not separating his identities as much as before because even in season 8 he only wore the red and blue when he was saving people.

Michael Shanks looks a lot more relaxed as Carter Hall this time around probably because he's playing the archaeologist side of Carter's character which I'm sure he's going to bring a lot of Daniel Jackson character in his performance.

It's weird,I know that's Deadshot, but when did Deadshot ever dress up like a cowboy?
That would be as weird as Deadpool from Marvel dressing up as a cowboy. :) Or maybe, Deadpool joining a Strip Club as a Chippendale dancer. :)
So, I know he's supposed to be Deadshot, but I'm still calling him Terra-Shot, because he's copying two villains.
Terra-Man, for his cowboy gear, look, and talking, and Deadshot because he's supposedly Deadshot.
I mean, I guess they could just misdirect us the entire time until the episode airs, and have him actually be Terra-Man. :)
Because Deadshot + normal bullets + Superman = Deadshot being beat up by Superman. :)
Unless he also has Gold Kryptonite. :)

Deadshot in Batman: Gotham Knight looked like this:
http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_Z4-I2c8peEQ/R7mst6cdmaI/AAAAAAAATzA/2xDuYINZDtw/s1600/GOTHAM_KNIGHT_VILLAINS.jpg
http://www.comicgasm.com/wp-content/photos/bat6.jpg
This also came up in a google image search:
http://media.comicvine.com/uploads/5/53838/1326564-secret_six_comic_24_large.jpg
So the "cowboy" motif isn't that out of the blue for a Deadshot interpretation.
BizarroAids
09-27-2010, 09:56 AM
Agreed, I always liked that cowboy look for him. Especially his look in B:GK. I think with this episode, we'll see alot of Clark catching/deflecting bullets, and to me, that's always been one of my favorite returning gags to the show.
I trust this character in Brian and Kellys hands, I'm sure they will make him truly badass, and give us some great visuals of Deadshot and his guns.:hrt:

well like other sv villains we are likely not going to see him in a full face mask. They did keep the eye thing. So they probably decided to give him a hat to help hid his face. They got him having guns and a trenchcoat so they got the overall look right for him.

Sadly, my expectations for this episode keep going lower and lower with each day. The trailer wasn't all that exciting, plus the glimpse of Clark's new look is so drastic from his Blur look that its almost laughable (though that could change with a complete look at it), and now this clip, which looks more like it would be a deleted scene on the DVD. Hopefully the Lois/Carter moments provide some of that missing touch to the new season.

Me too! Look at them spending money on previewing and promoting the show. It makes me happy. :)
It's also nice to have a larger look at the episode, as opposed to those unfinished "Director's Cut" clips they used to post.
This Cat Grant is still annoying, but having this preview of the kind of role she'll play has me more intrigued. It'll be good to have more characters drive home why Clark needs to be not just a hero, but a bright, beacon-y, public one.

Regardless, from the pics, they are really doing the Deadshot setup perfectly. :)

As for his costume, I doubt that red jacket is his updated costume. Why would he wear it to his dad's grave, in broad daylight? Plus that outfit clashes so much that Stevie Wonder could see it. :(
Yes, I know he's super-fast, but it still doesn't make sense for that to be his costume.

Well he's never worn a red leather jacket on the show before, and the producers did say he would be going through another costume change "with more color" before he wears the suit by the 2nd episode. His hair is slicked back and he's wearing blue jeans, so yeah I think it's his updated costume :woot: I'm just curious what kind of shirt/symbol he has sportin' in the front.
And if you check out the "Supergirl" photos, the brick wall behind Clark and Kara in the street shows a red "S" symbol crossed out, so I'm thinking he has the red symbol with blue shirt.

Just found this little tidbit from an interview with the new Cat Grant:
The character had appeared in season 6 (played by Emilie Ullerup), where she dated Clark (Tom Welling)
The Kat Grant that appeared in season 6 is not the same character as this Cat Grant, so there's no tie-in from that Kat Grant to this Cat Grant. In fact, she references that for a moment in one of the scenes when she first meets Clark, saying that it's "Cat with a C, not with a K." She gets confused with the one on TV -- the TV news reporter. So this Cat Grant is sort of starting from scratch.
Obviously they got the season wrong but it should clear things up a bit. Rest of the article is here:
http://www.the-trades.com/article.php?id=12172
Also here are pics of last seasons Catherine Grant just for comparsion:

The was never a 'Kat' Grant, which makes me just go  at the whole character thing. Isn't it funny how they don't let certain heroes appear because of the whole "people will confuse them with the film version of the character" thing, but they let them do something like this?

I don't mind the change. But I don't get why did they decide to do it in the first place? I don' find anything wrong if the character was the same, just stepping off as a show host and coming to the Daily Planet. It would've been less confusing even though Cat Grant in Crossfire was a very small character.

That's what I mean, she was Catherine with a C. But it's like they're expecting us to believe she was also Kat Grant with a K, which is just silly. Luckily, she's not as important of a character in the season or series as Jimmy one, so it's not as bad as that whole Henry James thing, but still.
