Asgard looks fantastic. Can't wait to see how it looks in high def. And the costumes look much better in 'real time' as well. Hope the film doesn't take too many liberties though. For instance, if they make Odin's staff the source of his omnipotence, I won't be happy. Everyone knows that the "Odin Power" is the birthright of the sons of Bor. Okay.. maybe not everyone.

I suppose that would be like FF2 having the Silver Surfer's power being contained in the board.

That was a bit obnoxious, but it didn't detract from the movie too much for me. I don't think Gungnir will be the source of Odin's power. I think it'll just be incredibly powerful in its own right, which it is in the comics, too. Hiddleston keeps mentioning it in his interviews.

i was just happy to see the sliver surfer he looked great. i hope we see loki doing magic i know hiddleston mentioned loki having infinte throwing knives, i would rather him shoot magic bolts. but maybe the knives will be in a greenish magic glow or something. or they will be conjured magic knives.

That will definitely be a scene that I am looking forward too. Glowing knifes or not, lol.

did you know in norse myth odin got the spear at the same time as thor gets the hammer? when loki cuts off all of sif's hair, the dwarfs fashion gold hair and 2 other gifts (the spear and a ship that can shrink when not in use). on the way back to asgard loki offers the challenge to rival dwarfs to better the first gifts, the dwarfs meet the challenge by making mjolnir, a gold ring that makes more gold rings (ensuring the owner is rich) and a golden boar.

it should be noted that like thor's hammer, odin's spear returns to his hand when thrown.

I'm sure Corpy knew that, he does have at least one copy of the Prose Eddas.
Marvel HAS covered the issue of any Uru Weapon made will have that returning to the owner when called. Sif has had a Bow and Arrow set she used during a hunt made of Uru and she felled an animal and called the arrow back to her.

No idea. And I even sifted through about 7 or 8 pages of threads over at IMDB trying to find the answer for you. *twitch*

The quality of posters over there is very low, AICN talkbackers are bad but at least most of them can spell.

Yeah I agree, but it might be a Basic Marvel track used for all the films as well.
actually have the trailer on loop again :D LOVE the Scene where Odin's addressing everyone in the Throne room. Also tring to spot anyone that MIGHT be Balder. :D

Yeah, and how does one watch it? And why isn't it posted on SUPERHEROHYPE? I've been away a week and I'm starting on my same rant. I'm not lauding Marvel because of their panel at ComicCon. I still say they've dropped the ball. Put it out there! I want to see it. Even bootleg footage. I don't see how that's a bad thing or can even be controlled in this day and age. The rules have changed. The game is different.

I did indeed know that. Later, Loki goes to Brokk and Eitri and bets his own head that they can't make treasures to outdo those three. So they make Draupnir, another set of hair for Sif, and Mjolnir. They win the bet but Loki notes he never bet his neck, which they'd have to cut through to get his head, so they get pissed and sew his mouth shut. :hehe:

Probably is the same. It seemed like generic music they put in because the score isn't ready yet.

You can still find it on Youtube if you look around enough. I took a chance yesterday when I dropped by my parents after work to show my sister. Didn't think I would find it but it took me less than 10 minutes.

Just avoid those stupid ones that when you pull it up it has some advertisement for a website over the video and the video is a still shot of Asgard the entire time with no sound. I went to the sight and some popups came up, the kind that you don't want to click on due to possible viruses.

It's all over the interwebs. The Hype's policies just prevent us from having it on our forums specifically. Marvel's trying to clamp down on it, but once stuff like that hits the internet once, it's out there pretty much forever if you look hard enough.

Exactly.

There are people who will constantly upload it on Youtube and other sites and use different usernames if their old ones get locked or banned for breaking the rules. In fact I think i'm going to watch the trailer again. :awesome:

I'd blame that more on the badness of a full movie than the goodness of a trailer, personally.

I want to quote an article I just found on the subject and I want to give the author credit....a guy named Mike Masnick I believe.....in it he says.....

" (the trailer) appears to have been taken down from a bunch of sites, though others claim you can find it if you really want."

"Either way, I'm trying to figure out how this makes any sense at all. It's a trailer. The whole idea of it is to act as advertising for the movie and get people more interested in seeing the movie. And having people put it online for you makes it free advertising, which is even better. So why take it down at all?"

Yes, how does it make sense? Life long Marvel fan,...but boo hiss on you right now Marvel. Stan Lee was the PT Barnum of comics. Mr. Promotion. Give' em what they want. And give 'em stuff they didn't know they wanted. If the internet had been around back in Marvel's hey day of the '60's and early '70's Stan would have known how to use it and would have used it way better than this. Jesus Christ. For one reason the FX aren't finished, and as soon as a bunch of haters see it all they start doing is going on and on and on about how cheesy it looks and how ****** the FX are and how the movie is doomed to failure because the guys that run the show are clearly incompetents who can't even put out a decent looking bit of footage.

That's ONE reason why, how many more do you need?

I believe there was a shot or two in the footage where Thor holds Mjollnir up in the air and I expect lighting to strike it in the finished film...hopefully.

Hahaha! Not sure if that was it but if it is, then fail on my part. I could have sworn there was one shot on Earth but maybe i'm wrong.

I do think that when he finally lifts it from the rock it's stuck in he'll hold it up and lightning will crash down. If not, that would be a missed opportunity.

Then why show anybody at all? Why show the ComicCon attendees if what you've got to show is so embarrassing. I don't believe that. I think it's beign over protective and poor assessment of the fans. I just think....again,...in this day and age....that the genie's out of the bottle already and there's no sense putting a cork on it.

I just saw it (and thank you for those of you who sent me links....I shall let you remain anonymous....I'm real good at keeping secrets) and I didn't necessarily see a set. Guess I kind of looked at it like a father looks at a picture his child did for him. You don't see the imperfections. Guess I looked more at content than specifics about FX. I liked what I saw. I just don't think that would have hurt to show us. Everyone on here is a fan. Show us.

I know, the gods are such total jerkwads. It's awesome. Have you heard that other myth where Odin contracts a giant to build Asgard new walls, then spends like the entire time behind the scenes with Loki coming up with ways to screw the giant out of his payment? Way to set an example, you old bastard. :lmao:

I think it definitely will. How else are we gonna tell "god" Thor apart from "human" Thor? Gotta be the threads. :awesome:

Probably the reason why we didn't get many fight scenes.
Yeah, if they're trying to do justice to Thor's powers, any fight scenes where he has them will need special effects. Flying, displays of obscene super-strength, lightning flashing out of Mjolnir, Mjolnir being thrown and returning, etc. Gotta have the effects to make Thor look like Thor in a fight.

But STILL, it's bad enough that Fox pissed all over Wolverine's famed backstory, but this is horse****. And as awesome of a director as Matthew Vaughn is, he'll be powerless to try and salvage whatever mess the screenwriter and Tom Rothman make.

Also, slightly OT, but what's up with all these Adrian Brody Marvel film rumors? First Ant-Man, now DR. STRANGE? Look, he was good in Predators and King Kong, but this is stupid. Where are these rumblings coming from?

Yep me too, I wish Marvel didn't sell the movie rights in the first place.

if they didnt sell the rights then they never would have been able to start up their movie company. so its sort of like the gift of the magi sort of deal, lol. marvel now has its own movie studio and has lost some of its main characters. its quite funny and ironic.

I agree. I don't know if I worded my post badly, but I meant that I'm not looking forward to First Class because it's not really the X-Men's first class. It's a bunch of random characters they're throwing together for God knows why. When I think "first class," I want to see Beast and Iceman getting up to mischief, Cyclops pining for Jean, Angel being the arrogant yet depressed rich kid, etc. The actual first class of X-Men.

TheCorpulent1

I'd love to see how the movies would try and handle Cable's origin.

"So, who are you anyway, Cable?"

"Well, you see, Cyclops and a clone of Jean Grey are actually my parents. I was infected with a techno-organic virus as a baby, so Cyclops was forced to send me far into the future to be cured. I was raised there, ironically, by Cyclops and Jean themselves, whose minds were taken from their present-day bodies and placed into the bodies of two people from the future, Slim and Red. Mother Askani (who is actually Rachel Summers, Cyclops and Jean's daughter from another possible future) prophesied that I would destroy Apocalypse, so I was trained to do that. I fought him but couldn't defeat him then, so I decided to come back to your present--my past (but also kind of my future, if you think about it)--to destroy Apocalypse here. Along the way, I cured my techno-organic virus problem, which freed my massive psychic powers up. So Cyclops, Jean, and I destroyed Apocalypse (but he got better), and then I sort of went off and used my psychic powers to set myself up as a mutant messiah. Only, later on, I met the actual mutant messiah, went back through time to various futures, trying to outrun another time traveler named Bishop, who wanted to kill the messiah. Finally, I came back to the present and gave my life for the actual messiah. Er... what was the question again?"

Trailer was meh to me. Some of the acting was pretty poor, heard Hemsworth's accent coming through, Natalie Portman's character is REALLY giving off that cookie cutter damsel in distress love interest vibe, and some pretty cheesy dialogue. All the action looked pretty top notch though. But considering this is stuff that is not meant to be seen by the public I am gonna give them the benefit of the doubt and reserve judgment until the official trailer hits the internet.

Yeah he's clearly not making any attempt to hide it, but consider that Anthony Hopkins and Loki aren't either. Clearly Asgard doesn't speak with an American accent, so you'll have to deal with them sounding British/Australian.

Well, some Asgardians might have American accents. Jaimie Alexander, Rene Russo, and Josh Dallas are all American, although none of them had many lines in the CCI footage. Not sure whether they'll try to fake British accents or use their native accents...

Just watched the trailer for the umpteenth time.

I've got a good feeling about the movie but I really hope to see Thor exhibiting his godly powers, e.g. calling down the thunder, the trademark whirling of Mjolnir by the strap at Mach 10 before throwing it as he so often does in the books.

TheCorpulent1
08-01-2010, 12:27 PM
Well, they squeezed a hammer throw in toward the end. I'm sure he'll do other godly stuff; they probably didn't have time to put those effects in for the sizzle reel.

Yeah, I caught the throw near the end and thought it a little tame by comic book standards. I guess I'm just anxious to see some ridiculous supernatural velocity behind it. That said, I really dug the leaping/screaming hammer strike during what must be his face-off with Loki.

And speaking of all things Thor-related, I just caught a commercial for a made for SyFy movie called "Frost Giant." No doubt it's just another goofy SyFy original but apparently the monster is based on the giants of Norse myth.

Yeah, Sci Fi's done some Norse movies. The best one I saw was Dark Kingdom: The Dragon King, which is an adaptation of the Nibelung saga from Germanic mythology. It had Kristanna Loken in it. And there was another one called Thor: Hammer of the Gods that had the oldest kid from Home Improvement in it. :D

That was a BRITISH accent not an AUSSIE accent. I'm an aussie, and that is definitely a shakespearian style Aussie accent. I think he sounds like Sean Bean in LOTR as a comparison. I just hate it when people think they here some aussie accent when it's actually just a british dialect and they can't tell the difference between aussie and british.

On top of that, he has a more regal sound to his accent, which is a very UN Australian thing lol. There is no such thing as a regal australian accent. He sounds more Prince of Persia than he does Buckeroo Bonzai

I don´t wanna sound pretentious, but I can´t help noticing the story very much has typical Shakesperian themes. War is coming, a son is disapproved and cast out by his own father the king, his deceitful, manipulative brother ascends to the throne through lies. Branagh was a good match.

http://www.bostonherald.com/entertainment/movies/general/view/20100731kenneth_branagh_says_shakespeare_akin_to_t hor/srvc=home&position=recent

SAN DIEGO — Kenneth Branagh is directing "Thor" for Marvel Studios, and some think it’s a stretch for him to take on a superhero movie. He’s more Shakespearean, having adapted several of the Bard’s films for the big screen.

But the 49-year-old actor-director says Shakespeare’s characters aren’t unlike today’s superheroes.

Shakespeare wrote about "Henry V" centuries after his reign, and turned the king into a sort of superhero who could do no wrong, Branagh says.

"We know that we’re interested in superheroes, kings, gods, because of their sort of human-like failings. So it seemed to me not as much of a stretch as some people might think," Branagh said at last week’s Comic-Con, where he presented footage from the film. "The stretch part of it is embracing the whole world of digital effects. That’s been something I’ve just loved because it’s — if you can think it, they can do it. And that’s exciting."

Natalie Portman, a star of "Thor," said the story is perfect for Branagh to handle.

"Ken is very aware of epic stories and, you know, these sort of mythological family structures that are at the base of all the classic texts," she said. "And the fact that this is classic mythology even though it is a super hero and a comic book movie, it was really a perfect fit."

"Thor" also stars Chris Hemsworth, Kat Dennings and Anthony Hopkins. It’s set for release next year.

They got the banishment part of it pretty well. I agree, though, they could stand to clarify just what the story builds to after that. As a comic fan, I know Loki becoming king is a bad thing, but the trailer didn't give you much of a sense of how bad Loki is or why Thor would ultimately have to depose him.

Wager's Ring, the opera is the same thing, AND the Eye of Odin Arc with Thor as Sigfried and Sigurd is the adaption of the Ring of Nibelungs.

DUDES!

http://www.**************.com/fansites/Poniverse/news/?a=20865

Iron Man 2http://images.intellitxt.com/ast/adTypes/mag-glass_10x10.gif (http://www.**************.com/fansites/Poniverse/news/?a=20865#) is one of the most highly anticipated home releases of the year. Dozens of extra features and extended scenes guarantee that every fan will want to get their hands on it once available in stores. If the already revealed extras aren't enough to pique your interest, this may do the trick: The Thor movie compilation and Captain America teaser trailerhttp://images.intellitxt.com/ast/adTypes/mag-glass_10x10.gif (http://www.**************.com/fansites/Poniverse/news/?a=20865#) will both be included in the sequel's 2-disc Special Edition Blu-Ray.

Unfortunately, they won't be easy to find. The features will be "hidden" in a special S.H.I.E.L.D. Data Vault (an obvious nod to the infamous S.H.I.E.L.D. prison of the same name). I have it on good authority that the Thor footage included on the Blu-Ray disc will be finalized with full effects and CG. There is some bad news, though; the Captain Americahttp://images.intellitxt.com/ast/adTypes/mag-glass_10x10.gif (http://www.**************.com/fansites/Poniverse/news/?a=20865#) teaser may not reveal Chris Evans in his movie costume. Since these features have to be added to the disc docket before it's ready for mass production, a decision of how much will be revealed has to be made within the next few days.

No confirmation whether these features will also be included on the DVD release or other, limited edition releases. The Iron Man 2 Blu-Ray hits shelves September 2010.

that's great news. did fav have anything to do with it, or is it just something marvel threw in for anticipation. i know fav likes to give the fans tons of stuff. like how he brought some footage of his movie he barely started shooting to comic con. i'm looking forward to seeing the finished effects and cap footage for the first time.i know there will be some mjolnir and odin's spear will have effects.like the scene when odin cast thor out he raises mjolnir. they probably will show a new effect.

there were a couple scenes to add effects to.when odin cast thor out he raises mjolnir and you see a lightning effect. im sure they will add the lightning coming from mjolnir itself. when loki raise odin's spear he points it, i assume it will shoot a blast of some kind. the pan of asgard will be polished up. when thor raise mjolnir without his helmet i think he is calling some lightning down. the frost giants might be polished. and the part where thor throws mjolnir might change. they might replace the prop with a cg mjolnir and give it some velocity.

Well from what we've seen in the Concept art of Thor's costume alone, the Disc's "gear" impressions glow like Ulty Thor's discs, Mjolnir's handle glows between the Leather straps not to mention the Mallet head glow's from inside.
I'm sure static discharges will happen in the Loki/Thor fight.
There's that scene that's Close up on Thor as he pulls back and Chris's eyes are wide open and angry, I can see small lightning bolts roll over his eyes. lol

I also liked it, not as much as the first IM though. I think some of the humour should have been toned down but a good amount of it was done well. I just love how people ignorantly say that the entire movie was just an Avengers setup because Fury had a couple scenes in it that lasted all of 3-4 minutes.

From my feelings at the moment, I liked it even more than IM1. The Stark/Potts banter reminded me of another of my favorite movies, His Girl Friday (it's actually the movie credited with inventing the overlapping dialog style).

Both villains were better than IM1 and Scarlett Jo was not only hot but had one of the best female action scenes I've ever seen.

The only thing I would have changed is the Rhodey plot line. That whole thing feels forced to me.

I'm not 100% certain that it is possible to dislike a movie in which RDJ plays the lead to be honest.

Back to the Thor trailer: Just checked out a thread devoted to it on a forum for an online game called City of Heroes and they all seemed to like it a lot. Bunch of comics loving folks play that game. Really the only people that seem to hate it are the posters at Rotten Tomatoes. They seem to operate under the flawed assumption that there is only one way to make a super hero movie though (like The Dark Knight).

TheCorpulent1
08-04-2010, 08:27 AM
Well, I wouldn't say DC only has three great heroes, but anytime you have two things as different as Superman and Batman, it's a disservice to both to try and homogenize them. Celebrate their differences. Not every superhero has to be grimdark. They tried that about 20 years ago in the comics and it ultimately blew up in their faces. :o

I'm not saying make Supes "grim". It was just the stories that bored me.
The recent one that started in the Free Comic book day looked promising. I just can't afford more books with Thor having multiple appearances and books.

Also, years ago even as a kid the color pallet DC used was just to Bland to me as a kid. That always stuck with me for some reason. Seemed like DC's color pallet changed around the time the New Teen Titans was being done by Perez.

Well the reason the pages are from Marvel's Hercules: Twilight of a God. It's a story of Herc that's set in the Future that Bob Layton started YEARS ago. Basically Galactus exploded creating out universe (in those top panels is past events) well in the main story the Big G is becoming a Black hole.

I just saw the trailer and thought it was pretty amazing. Obviously it was just a five minute representation of the movie and it's supposed to draw the viewers in with shiny toys and big explosions, but if Branagh put half as much attention to detail to the film as he did to the costumes or the rendition of Asgard, then we should be in for one hell of a movie. Plus Agent Caulson in the movie is the best possible way to bridge this character to the rest of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and the reference to Stark at the end had me laughing.

TheCorpulent1
08-06-2010, 09:23 AM

Squidboy
08-06-2010, 11:44 AM
Give it time, and I'm sure he'll get the star treatment. And I think having SHIELD here makes the most sense, considering their involvement in Iron Man, and the fact that they're trying to rally up the troops to link all these movies together. I'll put my foot down about it if Coulson's grandpa shows up in Captain America, but he's acting as a good ambassador for the Avengers characters.

TheCorpulent1
08-06-2010, 11:49 AM
I like that they created a new character for the movies rather than importing an established one from the comics. Coulson is free to represent the SHIELD of the movies without any comparisons to how he "should" be because of his comic appearances, unlike the Contessa or Dum-Dum or Clay Quartermain. If they ever make a SHIELD movie, I'd hope they bring those characters in, but for the other heroes' movies, a fresh character who'll be known specifically for this works better.

i just like how coulson evolved in just iron man 1. when you first meet him you think he is just some dorky guy trying to setup a meeting with stark. then you see him use some cool gadget and turn from the dorky guy to the guy in charge and unafraid, a real agent of shield. that was just in iron man 1, cant wait to see how he develops in the thor and avengers.

TheCorpulent1
08-06-2010, 11:56 AM
Heh, I never really saw him as anything other than just some dude. At first he seemed to be some kind of pencil-pusher, but then you realize he's with SHIELD and you're like, "Oh, so he's a SHIELD pencil-pusher," and then he whips out a gun and tries to protect Pepper and you're like, "Oh, so he's an actual SHIELD agent," but he still remains pretty normal. I like that they're not going overboard with the tech and stuff.

SHIELD is still, for all intents and purposes, just another alphabet intelligence agency that happens to be concerned with superheroes in the movies. That's a nice, grounded approach that works well for the film universe they've established so far. Hopefully, we might start seeing them adapt sci fi tech and other stuff as they go along--sort of like Stargate SG-1, which started off with the teams using normal weapons and slowly built their arsenal over the seasons until, by the end, they had Earth-built starships that could stand toe-to-toe with alien ships.

Oh, right, the dude from Minority Report. Didn't know he'd been cast as Dum-Dum. I like it, assuming he can rock a cartoonishly thick Boston accent. I always think of Dum-Dum talking like the guys from Car Talk. :D

I know him as the guy from Walking Tall. :D

I know very little about Dugan, I think I've read maybe 2 or 3 comics with him in them. Had no idea he was from Boston. McDonough's a pretty good actor though.

It's okay, I thought he was Irish for the longest time. Then I thought about it some more and I was like, "But why would he be in the American military...?" Then I read a profile and it said he was Bostonian, which made the way people write him make a lot more sense to me.

Marvel has added X-23 and Firestar into the comics after the characters began to grow in popularity from their respective tv shows, so I wouldn't see why he wouldn't be brought in. Given the fact that Marvel also changes things up to line up with the movie continuity as well (ie making Stryker and Deathstrike allies in the comics, following X2, or introducing a throwaway character called Mutant 143 for two issues during Austen's run) I could see Agent Coulson appearing not too far down the line.

Maybe once Maria Hill, Victoria Hand, and SWORD agent Brand get enough recognition that Marvel feels they could add Coulson as the newest agent to throw into the mix to call the shots.

Whenever Steve Rogers goes back to being Cap and Nick Fury takes over as head of SHIELD again, they should introduce Coulson as his personal go-fer. "Coulson! It's 8:43 and I still feel like I just woke up. Where's. My. COFFEE?!" :hehe:

That'll probably happen just in time for the Cap movie, considering Marvel needs to sell books with Steve in his costume to cash in. I'm waiting for a Agent Coulson One-Shot to follow.

It did take Chloe Sullivan nearly a decade to make it from Smallville to the actual comics, so we might do best not to hold our breath to see Coulson integrated into the comics, but I sincerely doubt Marvel will include him in four movies (assuming he'll be in Avengers) in four years and NOT take that as a sign that the character deserves a comicbook counterpart.

He's not without precedent, at least. Firestar was imported from the Spider-Man and his Amazing Friends cartoon into the comics way back in the '80s.

They were added into Young Justice at one point and I think they were still around in Teen Titans a few years back.

Marvin also got eaten by the Wonderdog. DC tends to axe its younger characters pretty brutally lately.

Yeah, most people seemed to think it was in poor taste. Probably because it really, really was. But Teen Titans has sucked in general for about 4 or 5 years now.
