One employee from my work who for the most part isn't a comic book fan thinks that Captain America is generic and that he's very much like Superman. But for the most part,I don't agree with his assessment,I think the movie will do better than I expected it to when it hits theaters domestically. It will certainly do a lot better than the Rise Of Cobra movie.

Well, he is one of the lower tier of superheroes, like Iron Man, but also like Iron Man, people recognize the character immediately and know the name.

They may not be interested in the character or the movie itself, but if the movies does well at selling it, the general audience may give it a chance. Since this is the true, wide theatrical debut of Captain America, I would expect an outcome a little higher than Fantastic Four numbers...

Until RDJ was cast I didn't know there was a guy inside of Iron Man.

They will want to quit their jobs and join the army.

If cap is in a platoon and they all die eccept him then i doubt that

I think that the lead in to Cap in Thor and the title having :the first Avenger will bring in alot of people who otherwise might not watch a movie about a man who is overtly American and patriotic. I think the movie will do well.

Hahaha! My gf always though it was a "stupid robot". Before the movie's advertisement campaign started I learned her some Iron Man.

As for Captain America, they better make that first teaser trailer and first full trailer badass to get the general audience's attention.

Ugh. I'm glad that you showed her. I hope she felt really stupid about what she initially thought about him, keep up the good work.

Captain America is NOT lower tier. I have no clue where you got that idea.

He is in the front of almost EVERY Marvel pic that contains all their characters. The guy is a headliner in Marvel... just not that popular with the general public... but among comic book fans, he's second to none in his importance (maybe not his popularity)

Because I thought that what she said about Ironman was cheap and basically hollow, and because I dig Ironman a lot. If it was someone else,I most likely wouldn't have cared.

Still, it's pretty nasty to hope that someone feels stupid for not knowing the details of a fictional character, about whom she probably couldn't care less.

This movie has a piss poor choice of a director, one of Hollywood's most mediocre. IF it turns out a good film(I'll try to stay optimistic) then I think the GA will react positive. Otherwise we'll end up with another Fantastic 4 like mess and the audience will not embrace.

Oh well,it's tame as hell compared to what is truly wrong in the world.

True, but God is in the details.

It will be exactly like the FF. What if Johnny Storm had joined the army in WW2. :woot:

I think the GA will have a positive reaction towards the film, this is the first Cap film with a decent budget unlike the 3 previous Cap films. I have a feeling Chris Evans is gonna deliver as Cap despite the negative comments from some people.

Well, thatīs not really true.
Iīm from Portugal as well, and i know almost every superhero there is, from Marvel to DC, from Image to Dark Horse.
I know Iron Man since i was 5 or something.
I still remember the first comic book i ever had or read, Thor vs The Silver Surfer, in the 80īs

But itīs all cool

As for the thread at hand....

If you built, they will come!
Remember this amazing quote from Field of Dreams (well, the original say He will come, but it makes more sense out side the movie as THEY)?
Itīs true, and the meaning is, if you make it great movie (in this case, but this quote works for anything), people will see it.
So, if they make a great Cap movie, really understand the character and not a pro-american garbage (which go against what the character is), people will wait in line for it.
