View Full Version : Guesstimates on when real casting info might start coming in?

Spiderman is coming out in July 2012. Superman in December.

Spiderman has been cast. Superman has not even had an inkling of the casting process.

When is sort of the realistic latest that we might start hearing something?

Because it's driving me mental, the suspense. I just want them to pick, so that I can either have a fangasm, give up on the movie entirely or try and grow to love someone.

All this speculation is so pointless in the end, and it'd just be nice to have some tid bit to chew on LOL

I think that with Nolan as a producer, he would not give out any info unless there is a rough script /draft in his hand (which I think he should be having by now.) so along with TDK sequel announcement we will get some Superman related info, like the movie title or maybe even a director, once that is done we can expect the next announcement of preproduction by Dec / Jan.

We don't even have an idea on who is directing yet. Only two names that have been mentioned to direct is goyer and jonah.

Spider-man also comes out 6 months before superman. Just going by other movies superman will probably start filming in late summer or fall next year so there is still a year to get things together. This movie has to happen because of the legal battle, we know there is a story and most likely a script, if the director is Jonah Nolan we have known That for a good 5 months now. I would say this movie is on track. If Jonah isn't the director the only thing I find strange right now is that we haven't heard any director rumours, but then again it will come out of nowhere one of these days.

They're going to lose the rights whether they make another film or not. That's not what's at stake. If they don't go into production by next year, the Siegel's (who currently hold 50% of the Superman copyright), will be able to sue Warner Bros. for not capitalizing on the property.

Yeah, it just feels like there was a lot of casting info around long before Garfield was cast... like pretty much as soon as they announced the reboot, there were rumours.

And what have we have for supes?

One rumour that Chuck was auditioning for the role?

I know i shouldn't get so frustrated, and that some movies are just handled differently... but right now I am so excited and happy and buzzed for Spiderman, and feeling kind of tense and panicky about Superman because I need some kind of reassurance that they 'get it'.

I need an ounce of plot, an idea of their ability to cast, or at least some statement from the official director about how they are going to handle the characters... anything!

Superman Casting Process...
Updated: 10/13/2010

Alright, so the news I am hearing is that by November auditions for Superman will be on the way. Depending on how the screen testing process goes, it is quite possible by December the search will be narrowed down to a few candidates. If it goes very well and someone's test really stands out, we may actually know before the start of the new year. Pretty exciting stuff! We can bank on knowing within 2-3 months who is going to be the lead on Nolan/and Snyder's Superman movie.

I hope that is true.

Then when someone finally gets cast the mods can make a "complain about the actor here thread", and so long as the complaints go and stay in there, the rest of the board can go on with conversations about the other aspects of the movie.

I'm thinking this would be the fastest growing thread ever. I wonder how long it would take to reach 100 pages of comments. Like 5 days

After thanksgiving at the earliest. Janurary most likely.

And would this list be made official like we would have an influence?

January is my best guess. I would say no later than March for certain.

Januray is way too early. It depends on the actual shoot.

As of right now, I can tell you that Zack is probably just assembling his team and working on the script. But he probably doesn't even know where to shoot the film, the final budget, or has thought too much about the casting.

My prediction for the real casting would be early Summer IF the film starts shooting in the second half this year (Fall or Winter). Obviously the actor donning the tights needs the training.

Singer was announced in July and Snyder was announced in October.

Routh was announced in October, so by that logic it could be December or January.

I guess it would have to depend on when snyder finishes up his work on sucker punch and when they start filming this next movie. If Batman starts filming in april I can't see superman starting to film at exactly the same time. Also this time around I wouldnt be surprised if they have a list of actors especially if there not going to go for a complete unknown.

Yes, this is definitely not one of those"search the world for the perfect Superman" situations. There simply isn't enough time for all that. Sucker Punch is in the very late stages of post-production, so Snyder is probably completing Sucker Punch and working on Superman at the same time. At the very least he's handling casting talks. The costume people need to know about casting very early on, so I expect announcements regarding the principal cast no later than January.

One thing to keep in mind is that although Spider-Man is in July 2012 and Superman is in December 2012, that's still a six month difference between the two. And six months can make a lot of difference as to when things are announced. Which is exactly why we've heard more about The Dark Knight Rises (although not much) than Supes... they're six months away from each other in release.

But how ****ing awesome is it that when we go to see The Dark Knight Rises we will see a trailer for The Man of Steel?

I know it's a crazy never gonna happen long shot, but I hope the MoS plays a role in TDKR.

The chances are beyond slim, but with Nolan overseeing both projects it could...no it won't I'm dreaming.

But if only, man what a way to trump Marvel.

Well, the statement you refer to could well be disinformation, tbh, it's not like he would give away details before hand. But you are probably right, and I'm dreaming.

That will be cool. Also, if they are able to get the flash off the ground for a summer 2013 date we would probably see a trailer for that with superman.

Yeah, he did say that, but its still a missed opportunity imo.
Imagine a scene at the end, maybe the last scene. Bruce is down in the batcave relaxing after defeating whichever villain was in Batman 3. He sits at a large desk, surrounded by computers and screens. He clicks on each screen, and a different view of the same city appears.

Alfred walks in with a tray and says something like ''still looking for the flying man in Metropolis master Bruce?'' ''he's just an urban legend you know''.
Bruce could look up and say ''not looking, I found him.'' Bruce points to a large computer monitor. A small camera placed on a rooftop catches Superman as he's flying by. Bruce and alfred lean in toward the screen and we see the \S/ on supes chest as he wheezes past. That's where it would end.

Something simple as that would make the movie going crowd geek out.

Thats as ridiculous as the embargo on Bats,WW & GL on Smallville. Not saying he has to make a big thing. But, a passing reference would be nice.

A Batman-reference in the Superman-movie could probably work, but not really the other way around. Not with the setting Nolan chose for the Batman-movies. It would feel malplaced.

Like the silly Avengers-movie. Thor next to Ironman is a little silly imo.
