View Full Version : Christopher Nolan Meeting With Directorial Candidates

I think Ben has enough credibility now to be mentioned as a candidate, but the fact that he's not filmed outside of Boston is a bit of a risk when considering him. Now, if the stars were to align in his favor, I'd give him a very well-deserved chance. Of course, all of this is moot if he turns the offer down, or isn't even given an offer in the first place. According to the report last week, he's been offered Tales From the Gangster Squad, but hasn't accepted. It's not outside the realm of possibility that WB would offer him a few projects, including this one, to pick from.

After seeing Let Me In, I'm even more excited at the prospect of Reeves. Too bad it doesn't appear that he's actually in the running. :(

Well, I've seen pieces of the crapfests, sure. But I don't make a point to devote a couple hours of my life to one until I've heard enough reports that it's good first. Also, the theater I work at is an independent/foreign movie theater, so in general, less crapfests, more underseen gems. But yes, crapfests are somewhat unavoidable.

Deadline is pretty accurate with their ****, man. If this is indeed true, hey. I don't mind it. He wasn't a first or second choice, but I don't mind. At least we know most of the scenes from the comics will definitely be translated without compromise. And I suspect we'll get a pretty f/x heavy villain alongside Luthor.

My third choice for the film, but I like the idea of Snyder and Nolan working together.
Zack Snyder + Christopher Nolan + Jonathan Nolan + David S. Goyer = EPIC.

Pardon me for not frothing at the mouth with excitement at Snyder directing it. Why can't you just accept that not everyone is happy with this choice? You're thrilled about it? Great. But others aren't, and they have a right to their opinion as well.

I definitely understand where you're coming from (as I pretty much feel the exact same way about Snyder's films), but I'm trying to remain optimisting - Goyer and Nolan are doing the screenplay, so that's where the soul can come from. The big thing I'm worried about is the acting. Snyder can't direct actors for s***, imo, and that's not something Nolan as a producer would be involved in. Still, I'm crossing my fingers for the best.

Yeah same thing happened to me - but I'm having good thoughts on Snyder now. He just might be able to pull it off - the man adapted THE WATCHMEN. Speaking of which, this will be his first comic film that isn't a direct-adaptation (or is it?) Any thoughts on that?

Well, considering I have a Film and Television degree, I was hoping to have steady editing work by now, but considering I'm stuck working at a theater, I have to say the theater I work for is a pretty great place to be stuck at. :woot:
In my search for silver lining on this choice, I did come up with a pleasant thought (for me): Snyder's taste in leading men is definitely something I approve of. Between Gerard Butler, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Patrick Wilson and Jon Hamm, I'm much less concerned about getting a 25-year-old Superboy for Superman now. So that's a good thing.

Wow! Snyder, great choice! Well, haters gonehaen, buthe is the directornow, and nothing can change that. For me, behind the great action hecan work well with the drama and the character plots. with Nolan guidance, this ne movie have big chances to be epic. utim worried about the return of Zod, because with they really link with Donner movies (again) why not follow up the Superman Returns history? and how the put Zod back?

I would have chosen Duncan Jones or Darren Aronofsky from the reported list of candidates, but honestly there wasn't a terrible choice among them. I suppose we can trust that Christopher Nolan knows what he's doing, so I'm alright with Snyder. He must have knocked it out of the park during his interview.

Well, I'm still looking for a good college so...no degrees or anything for me :whatever: But yeah Snyder's casting choices have always been far better than those of his contemporaries. But I'm still uncertain about Natalie Portman playing Lois Lane - even though she's capable of playing out the role, I just don't see her in the part.

Awww, that's a bit of a shame.
And they interpret Nolan a bit oddly. He jumped from doing small sub-$50 million movies into taking up one of the biggest franchises ever. Even though the franchise had been left for dead. :funny:

Such a huge shame...and it seems like Nolan/WB went to Jones first with an offer to direct.
With Snyder directing I feel like, at best, he'll be able to give us a pretty good Superman movie.
With Duncan Jones directing I feel like he could've given us the best Superman movie ever made and possibly one of the best comic book films ever made.
btw Source Code looks great: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NkTrG-gpIzE
I think you're giving too much credit to Jones and not enough to Snyder. If Jones panicked at the thought of directing a major blockbuster then chances are he would buckle under the pressure and we would get a movie like Fincher's Alien 3. Snyder, however, proved that he was willing to stick to his vision for a big-budget movie with Watchmen.

I think it's a shame that Jones backed out, as I much prefer him to Snyder. But at least Jones was honest enough to do so. Frankly, I think it takes more guts to admit you can't handle a job like this than to run with it anyway because it's such a big opportunity. The latter is how the big disasters happen, imo.
This would've been a HUGE career jump for him. But if he didn't think he could handle it, I'm glad he figured that out early and backed out. And I'm looking forward to Source Code.
